Why do you make your stories "Subscribers Only"

I'm just curious.
I know some make it sub only because it is mature, or contains trigger warnings, but that's about all I can think of...
Why do you do it?

Mine is just simple..cuz I wanna reach at least 500 karma point to change my username. Ppl rarely subscribe if the authors didn't put the lable..so..but unfortunately, its hard to find subscriber bcoz I am only writing my ship which is not that popular..hehe

I probably had a very good reason earlier that I forgot, but I mostly kept Rated M stories subscribers only. I usually put the subscribers only button when I finish the story, because while it's ongoing, people who want to read it will click 'subscribe' anyway, but when it's completed, I doubt anyone would bother to do so.

lol i do it because im still not confident in my writing, i feel like its still immature.

Also, it gives me a specific number of people who are reading my story, that way i know how often i should be updating

- to know who reads my story bcuz i want to know
- because i'm insecure of my writing n get kinda paranoid at the idea of silent judging stalkers...
- bcuz i don't want my stories to get easy access to jerks with nothing better to do than lurking into random stories silently then going around making posts to make fun or criticize n bash stories they read without even telling their thoughts directly to the writers for once. i've seen too many of those jerks in this site proudly trashtalking fics and even include the links...and these ppl don't even have the guts to subscribe or comment at the fics at all yet they can give you detailed analysis in trashtalking form in their blogs etc.
- some are very personal to me, like my poetry n drabble collection...i don't like for these writings i regard as very personal to be read by ppl who don't even want to show themselves as a reader. it feels unfair that they get to see a very personal side of me yet i don't even get to know who they are on this site. it's fine if they subscribe...and then unsubscribe if they found they don't like it...but to casually come...read everything...and leave...all without my knowledge...is no.
- most importantly...cuz i can. aff gives that option, and i choose to use it.

- I write about a lot of trigger subjects on my other accounts.
- I'd like to have an estimate of how many people are actually reading my stories (I think chapter statistics are a bit broken).
- I'm tired of people coming back to my stories every day like it's their day job.
- I put effort into the stuff I write and I want it to be worthwhile at the end.

Because why the hell should I let people read my story for FREE? If you get subscribers for your story you get karma points~ ^^ so i think of it as my hard work getting paid for in some weird useless way. I wonder why nobody mentioned this point here?

Well Im not just an author but also a reader. One time while I was about to comment on a fic. An NCT fic to be precise. There was this one commenter who said that the relationship of the characters was abusive where in fact one of the character was just a bit bossy. And ever since that, I always make my stories to Subscribers only and is always Rated M and Trigger warning. Just in case someone say something about the characters I made, I can tell them that it has a warning.

Usually only, if it has mature content or I'm insecure about the story so I want to know who have actually read it.

I feel paranoid when I don't know who's reading my fics. I don't like it when people plagiarize my stuff, and same goes with the other things i create in aff. I also feel like people who does not agree with my views are going to be weirded out with my since it's usually murder I like writing so it's better to keep ot that way than have a lost soul telling me whatever I wrote was gross or not humane.

I set my sm*t based stories to "subscribers only" because I'm scared of publicity sharing them. It terrifies me, to be honest, and I don't know why.

I usually do it in the hopes that people read the entire foreword before they decide whether or not they want to read the story. This may not be true, but still - it's my hope that people think twice.

I used to have mine opened, but then I turned 'subscribers only' on mainly because I have anxiety of sharing my thoughts. I used to write, long ago but then I took a break and mostly write for myself, having to share my thoughts and ideas to others is a bit weird. Kind of, I don't want it to be too opened, a small number of people can read my thoughts and ideas in my fanfics if they so wished, but having it fully open means to have my whole brain opened for everyone who frequent the site to read. And that's very stressful to think about, LOL.

Basically I do that, so I can see who reads my stuff, and for safety reasons. I dont want to risk getting my stories stolen. And also I don't want unregistered people to read my stuff as that can lead to a higer risk of getting plagiarized (possibly).

The main reason was because there were other friends at my school who were trying to figure out where I write my 'stories' because someone saw that I was writing it during my free time. So I kept it, members & subscribers, only. Now that I graduated, I felt I still didn't undo it because of people outside AFF could potentially plagiarise. That's all.

For my stories that contain a collection of oneshots, I have them in private. Idk how to reason it, it's just like... the proper action I should do haha

Only one of my two fics is, and it's the dark, ty, violent stuff that I wouldn't want somebody who happened to, for example search my username (because I use it for a lot of things) to read. My other fic is lighter and not so obvious that it's straight from my (slightly) screwed up brain, so I don't mind whoever reading it.

I used not to do it, but one of my fics got plagiarised a number of times and the same happened to one of my co-author's fics, and part of proving that something is plagiarism is proving that the person had access to and read the original. Having my fics as subs-only meant that it was very easy to catch that and that it was something the plagiarisers couldn't deny.

I do it mostly because I don't want my stories to be easily read by unregistered people, something that might lead to plagiarism (I'm not trying to say that I am a great writer or something, but I just want to protect my ideas). Also, I do it to know how many people would want to return and read my stories (and hope that it might lead to more comments).
