40 Questions for Fanfic Writers 2
Hello!
Here is part 2 of the list of questions I stole from MidnightOnyx
You can check her answers here . And part one here.
Since there are many questions I will answer them gradually, five each time and I hope, if you are up to it, to discuss some of these topics, as writers or readers (or both). ^^
6. Share one of your weaknesses.
My lack of vocabulary. Since I'm not an English speaker there are many words I struggle with, specially to describe actions and objects. I often consult lists of ary related with what I'm writing about but I feel like that hinders me from writing better. My stories often have grammatical mistakes and typos too. I always reread the new chapter several times but they manage to pass. =(
7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you've written and explain why you're proud of it.
I have no idea.
Hum, this whole scene on Marrying an Idol chapter 27 is specially cute and I like it because of that. I'm proud of how real it feels and it«s adorable and cute.
“Wow! Cute!”
He chuckled wondering how that was cute and placed his hand on her waist, releasing a deep breath. He wanted her again and that made him feel like a selfish ert boyfriend. He knew how much she wanted to go out and have normal dates with him but all he wanted was to kiss her and make love with her. Of course, he was having fun and he couldn't deny how warm he felt every time he saw her smile excited over every small thing they did together, even buying their entrances to the aquarium, standing in line together made her grin like a fool. Maybe that was one of the reasons why he wanted to selfishly disappear with her into a dark corner and ravish her.
“Cute!” he poked her dimple and once again she looked away embarrassed.
He stepped back giving her more space and she walked beside him.
“They could hire you as a guide here, you know so much.”
“I have many weird hobbies, one is reading random books about things that interest me at the moment. Anatomy, astronomy, architecture, fishing…”
She frowned “So you read the book because you want to fish endangered species?”
He chuckled “No, I read a book about sea life after my travel to Singapore and I visited the aquarium there on a show. Fish look so free, don't they? I wanted to know a bit more and bought a book.”
“I see.'' Her gaze fell on his hand on his side and he smiled knowing that she wanted to hold hands again. Even if he wanted the same he didn't reach for her hand and they walked beside each other approaching the end of the hallway that led to an open area where other kinds of animals were.
She cleared cutely and he pretended to be distracted with a tank when he felt her fingers touch his, sliding in the middle of them. It was adorable and he had to fight the urge to pull her to his arms and kiss her right there. Instead, he firmly held into her hand and smiled warmly at her.
“Penguins!” Her excited screech followed by the pull of her hand made him stumble forward after her. She only stopped when she reached the handrail separating the public from the penguin exhibit. “I love them!”
8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you've written and explain why you're proud of it.
Honestly I can't think of any.
But then I remembered this little part of Wanted chapter 15 that specially like mostly because of the feeling and how well it flew out of me.
He watched her boil the water and then rip the package to make his instant coffee. She placed a mug with it in front of him and then prepared her tea and sat beside him at the small kitchen table.
Nari blew on her tea and his eyes drifted from her lips safely away to the fridge and the several pictures she pined there. One of them was for sure of her parents. He glanced at her a few times until she noticed it. It wasn't uncomfortable at all and he relaxed, allowing himself the luxury of observing her for as long as he wanted. She didn't seem bothered with it, on the contrary, she was looking back at him, smiling once in a while as if she could read something in his expression as if his attention amused her.
“How did you do it?” He asked after a while, not sure how long because time seemed to not matter when he was with her.
“Hum...it's not hard, it has the instructions on the back.”
“No.” he interrupted her “I don't mean the coffee. I mean…” that conversation was a mined field for him but he was genuinely so curious. “Getting over the death of your parents, going on. If it was me...suddenly being alone...I…” He would have wanted to die. He wanted to die, that was the only thing in his mind, the guilt, the sadness chewed him alive. “I wasn't sure I would want to keep living.”
“Hum…” her eyes didn't stray away from his and he loved how they were able to talk intimately like that so close looking at each other as if they were connected. “The thought did cross my mind. I didn't have any more close family, I was a loner without any friends but I had myself. And If I died who would honor the memories of my parents? It wasn't as if they wanted me to give up. And I really didn't want to. I mean if I did I would be giving up on meeting everyone along the way, I would give up on Nari's candles that I love dearly, I wouldn't have gotten closer to Jonghyun, I wouldn't have met Sora….or you. So I made a hard choice, to live.”
“Me…” he chuckled “Was it even worth it meeting me? I mean, I hurt you.”
“You did.” She looked down at her tea ”But I love you and the fact that I was blessed with that feeling even if unrequited is something I don't want to throw away.”
She loved him. The scary words that didn't seem as scary now.
“If you could go back, would you do it exactly the same?” Would you still date me?
“Yes. Everything, all of it, or this moment wouldn't happen and we wouldn't be here right now.”
He pinned her under his gaze trying to ignore the tightness of his chest. “After losing your parents aren't you scared of death? Of losing Sora, Jonghyun…” Or me.
“Of course I'm scared. But that's life, isn't it? And why think of something that didn't happen yet or might not happen, why suffer with it or try to avoid it when you can just live the present, be happy and be with the ones you love. That's what living is, make many happy memories.”
9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
Perfectly Dangerous for sure. Not only because of the insane plot, but also because of all the jumps on the timeline and because it had more action. I spent so many hours planning it, rereading it to see if there were no loose ends. I even wrote extensive timelines.
From the ones I'm writing right now, Treat for two is the hardest one plot wise. And then Wanted. Many secrets and plot twists and characters, makes it all much more complicated. Marrying an idol comes next because it's a long story and I have many ideas that struggle with each other. And then Urgent Matters, which is hard to write because I always need to come up with fresh y situations. LOL
10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
There isn't specifically one that was easy to write. I often struggle with lack of inspiration and it affects almost all. Honestly. Short stories, one shots are easier to write because no need for much planning. Plot wise, In trouble with you had a simple plot so could be easier but it isn't because I struggled with inspiration a lot with that one.
What is your opinion? Did you like these parts in the story or do you have another ones you liked most, or less? Do you notice my struggles in the stories I mentioned or with my biggest weaknesses?
