▸ FLOWER GIRL　because his parents' had decided to use the feminine character for hua (which means flower & blossom), many kids had made fun of hua for having such a 'girlie' name. this is definitely not a nickname that hua likes.

standing at an average height, hua is definitely a handsome man that follows sm's great visuals. he has a slim, chiseled face, but has thick thighs from his training as a dancer, liking to hide most of his muscles under his clothes. he doesn't have abs, he has a smooth stomach with hints of definition. most of his muscles are in his upper arms and legs (mostly his thighs) due to dancing and when he played soccer.

his hair hasn't been crazily dyed, usually keeping it's natural black or a soft brown. though he isn't afraid of hair dye and is very interested in experimenting with hair colors. he only has one piercing, a simple piercing in the cartilege in his left ear. he only has one tattoo, something minimalistic, on his right forearm he had done before becoming a trainee.

hua doesn't have a concrete style to say, but he's always seen in jeans (that wrap around his thick thighs perfectly). hardly ever seen without wearing jeans. normally seen wearing t-shirts with band names on them with a jacket or sweater on top. the man loves his sweaters though.

one thing people can certainly agree on is that hua is mature. hua is smart, but he knows he doesn't know everything. he's perfectly fine with others taking away attention from him, prioritizing others before himself. thinking before acting, hua's maturity can mostly be seen through his age as one of the oldest members of the group. another staple of hua is his selflessness. no one is truly selfless, but hua comes close. besides dancing, hua finds joy in seeing others, his friends, succeed. known to drop things when a friend is in need, people tend to go to hua for advice or help, knowing that he would help them no matter what. hua is definitely a dedicated person. strong loyalty to his goals (whether someone or something), he puts in his time and energy to reach those goals. along with his maturity, hua is patient and forgiving. his patience is strong, empathic with others in helping. not a lot of many things irritate or annoy him, giving him a strong tolerance to continue on.

maybe it's due to the fact that he's the oldest of the bunch and has always been in his group of friends, but hua can be forgetful. a lot of times, hua has to write down notes for the smallest things in order for him to remember. hua may be a master at hiding it, but he's a rather tense person deep down. behind soft smiles and caring hands, he hides anxiety and exhaustion. he may seem rigid at times, but it's mainly due to him not being able to express his draining thoughts which tend to develop into small mood swings from time to time. hua tends to see a more pessimistic side of things, especially when it revolves around him. sensitive about his own future, he tends to think of the worst and feeling like he's never truly prepared for what's to come. and along with that, insecurity eats him up from deep down. not one whose had lots of friends, he wants to appear likeable and so he tends to nod and agree even if he doesn't quite agree. despite his strong talent in dancing, his skill is never truly advanced to himself even though people tell him otherwise. maybe he's a bit of a perfectionist, but since he was never a childhood dancer, he doesn't see his true worth even now.

BACKGROUND

hua can tell everyone that his life isn't that interesting to hear. he was born to two parents that loved him, rich parents to be more specific. though it was never something he liked to brag or talk about. he went to school like a normal kid. nothing drastic happened in his school life except for a few cases of bullying due to his chubby cheeks and feminine name.

hua spent time playing soccer in elementary and middle school, one of the things he focused on other than his schooling. though as high school rolled around, hua got interested in something else...dancing. due to his years of soccer, he had enough sense of movement and muscles that caught the eyes of the friends in school. not wanting to due dance lessons alone, they asked hua to join them.

and that day, when he joined his friends for that dance lesson, hua found his existence. the joy he experienced when copying the instructors moves and acing them filled him up with pride. soon enough, hua was the one coming to dance lessons every day. it was like clockwork, dancing becoming his way of living. he loved it.

after two years of coming to these dance lessons, the instructors took hua aside to tell him that they were astonished with how far he has come in such a short time. he was essentially one of their best students. one instructor, the dance studio's comtemporary instructor, spoke to hua about what he wanted to do in the future, if he'd like to pursue dancing professionally. young and in love with dancing, hua said yes. and soon, the instructor had him practicing harder in hopes to being one of the hopeful candidates for the beijing dance academy.

hua was so nervous about the examinations. this was totally different than his studies. he was also worried about his parents, even though they fully supported their son in his dream to dance.

but hua's worries were unwarrented because after he took those exams, a rush of relief filled him once he got his results in.

▸　can imitate a grandpa?? it's a really weird impersonation, but it was something he created on the fly to make jingyi laugh as a child and so it just another talent of his.

▸　due to his history in contemporary, hua can do both back flips and front flips.

▸　learns choreography very easily. is usually the first one to learn their dances and then helps teach the rest of the members.

hua's father and mother. they are a rather normal couple despite their demanding, top tier jobs (boqin's a bank executive while his wife changming is a well-known perfumer). they may not been around the house often, but they never forgot their own child and would make sure he was okay on a day to day basis, making time to spend time with him at least two times a month. hua loves his parents and like most children, he wishes he could of spent more time with him, but he doesn't blame them one bit.

despite their jobs, they've never expected their son to follow in their footsteps of getting an elite job. they just want their son happy. so when he joined the beijing dance academy, they let him cause they knew how much dance made him happy. they are hua's biggest supporter.

at the age of thirteen, hua began to babysit his neighbor three year old child. at first, hua was sure he wasn't going to like it, but soon enough...the three year old spunky child got to hua and awakened the mother inside of him.

jingyi is a hyper and easily influenced child, always looking up to hua and actually listening to him. he was actually the one who started the whole mama hua nickname which follows him to this day. hua has deemed jingyi his unofficial child and he practically mothers him. he and jingyi send letters to each other, talking on the phone or skyping whenever they have the chance. jingyi has vowed to follow in his mama's steps and wants to be a great dancer like him!

jingyi get's really upset when someone calls hua fat or something along those lines and is quite protective of him in that way. he's always trying to send hua encouraging messages though the messages just seemed to be a bit on the aggressive side and it makes hua sigh, though it's a happy sigh.

yifen is a quiet individual. closed off and a bit private, most tend to ignore his presence, but hua didn't let that outer attitude bother him. he somehow peeled away yifen's outer layers to get to the real him: a sarcastic individual with unique tastes in art.

throughout the years, hua and yifen's friendship has grown especially after hua joined him in dance lessons. essentially, yifen is the reason why hua found his love for dancing and yifen has been glad cause he had never seen hua so happy then that fateful day. he still goes to dance lessons, contemporary just like hua, but he's content with just the dance studio.

TRAINEE LIFE

life as a student at the beijing dance academy was definitely tough. as one of the very, very few people to actually be accepted and being only sixteen years old at the time was not only nerve wracking, but filled hua with so much pride for himself. hua prided himself with his raw talent and instructors liked what they saw from him and they wanted to see more.

he wasn't quite a biased student, far from it, but with his determination to do his best and learn whatever he could to enhance his skills, instructors liked that. over the course of five-ish years, hua grew into a fine dancer that many other students felt envious of. due to his growing skills and his ease of learning, instructors tended to pick him out in class to help show off a certain move or help the others in learning. he was an exemplary student.

it wasn't until late 2018 when his skills caught the eyes of a famous korean company with history in chinese music. an sm scouter had been scouting out some of the students for the past few months, but he definitely had an eye out for hua specifically. after a major performance with hua as a main lead, the scouter had no choice, but to make himself known to hua and give him the company's card.

it was definitely tempting, though hua was skeptical. why would a korean company want him? he could barely believe what the scouter had told him. despite his obvious skills in dance, the scouter had told him his visuals would fit nicely within the company. hua, whose oblivious to his own natural beauty, could only scoff and reject the offer. it was only after the scouter continued to chase hua for weeks to reconsider the offer and hua's friends insisting of taking it seriously, that hua actually began to think it over.

as much as he loved to dance and the instructors singing praises that he'd be a great professional dancer someday, his friends and everyone knew that hua was born to be on stage. on the stage, hua shined brighter than any star in the sky, he beamed brighter than the sun. joining a korean company, one of such caliber, would definitely be blessed with having hua as a trainee and it gave hua a chance to some day debut and show the world what he is capable of.

with much deliberating, hua took the scouter's offer and soon hua was flown to sm for an official audition. surprise surprise, hua wasn't only a good dancer. underneath his contemporary skills, the chinese male definitely knew how to sing a bit better than the average person and was able to at least copy-rap a verse of an english song. for sm, that was strucking gold.

much like his experience in auditioning for the beijing dance academy, hua was soon accepted as an official sm trainee in the month of november. he was quite the talk of the trainees as word was quickly spread around about a top student from the beijing dance academy became a trainee. they were expecting a stuck up person, someone on their high horse and expecting everyone to bow down to them. they were mistaken when hua walked into the trainee room with soft eyes and gentle mannerisms that gave most of the trainees whiplash.

training under sm was definitely different, but not quite. with the intelligence to learn new languages rather quickly, hua didn't have to deal with a language barrier for too long and it definitely was long enough for hua to be excelling his vocal and rap lessons he was put under to further craft him into a perfect trainee that matched his level of dance. once again, many trainees were either stuck being envious of him or falling for his motherly demeanor, letting the male help them whenever they needed help.

it was during an off chance event that ed hua into the sljk program. hua wasn't deaf, he knew of the program, but he seriously didn't care about all that stuff. he was honestly content with his life as a normal trainee and helping out newbies with dance formations. so imagine his surprise when the devil woman herself, madame kang, walked in on one of those moments where hua was lost in his teachings and him showing off said dance formations to the new trainees with ease. madame kang, with an expressionless face, watched as the chinese male continued to teach and help, not realizing the extra eyes at all, until he heard the door closed.

it was until a few months later, when rumors began to spread about a second generation of the sljk program, that hua found his trainee life taking a turn. in the middle of february, hua was given a new schedule, one that had him following the rumors.

▸ MOTHER　right from the beginning, hua was given the persona of the unofficial mom of sljk 2 (and soon enough maelstrom) due to his heavy motherly tendencies. everyone thinks of him as a mom so it's not a surprise that all the trainees describe him as such. hua is always seen following the younger trainees, taking care of them and hovering over them like a mother hen.

▸ KPOP　funny story. hua wasn't exactly aware of kpop until he was approached by sm. he mainly joined the company without knowing much about the music genre. anyways - one of the first kpop choreos he learned was key's one of those nights which tickles the fans (and the group)because why that song and not any of the other widely popular sm songs? hua said it was also one of the first kpop songs he heard as well and he liked the melachonly the music had.

▸ HAIL　hua honestly didn't have to do anything. madame kang knew he was going to be a captain of one of the teams. seeing as liam was chosen for thunder, hua was immediately chosen as the captain of the hail team.

▸ GAME　the younger trainees have made into a game to see who can make hua finally cuss real curse words. this game started since hua became a sm trainee and the game continues to this day (since hua still hasn't cursed yet).

▸ EXPERIENCE　when hua's name was revealed under hail and maelstrom, a lot of fans were confused by the new face. netizens were quick to dig for information about him and were quite flabbergasted when they found out just where he came from.

it's not that hua tries to hide his prior time at the beijing dance academy, he's very proud of his accomplishments, but the onslaught of compliments, praises, and attention make him shy.

▸ FANS　hua ends up with a lot of solo fans, surprisingly. and, also surprisingly, his solo fans tend to be thirsty ones. hua is definitely embarrassed about that, especially whenever fans scream his name in shouts like 'give us a kiss, hua!' and etc. the group like to tease hua about it, but he usually just scuffs them on the back of the head to shut them up.

Since I'm also the leader of Hail, I unite my unit together." With a rather sheepish smile, he looks back down at his clasped hands. "Sorry if that sounds a bit cringy..."

"Skill I'm most confident in? Oh, that's definitely dancing," Hua announces instantly, confidence in his eyes. "I've been training in dance for years," he lists off like common knowledge. "My main skill would be contemporary, but I can dance many genres as well."

hua had a lot of mentors to choose from, especially with his skill set, but hua didn't just want someone with his same skill set. he wanted someone he could have a strong emotional connection with. and since he first met ~~ǧ̶̯̝͝è̶̟̖͗̂ų̶̛̪̜̱̓͜m̸͎̦̈̽͌w̴̨͕̖͌͗́̊o̴͍̜̩̐o̶̳͍͎̅͘͜~~, he had that connection.

hua will admit, when he first came to sm, he was quite oblivious to the workings of the company as he learned korean and tried to get used to their training system. he didn't have time to look into the exclusive training program or prior groups. after being added to the second generation of the said program, hua was introduced to the previous trainees that are now gjsn and paradox.

during practice one day, hua noticed a male he hadn't been introduced yet struggling over a dance move. hua watched the trainee struggle with dance step multiple times and he getting more and more frustrated the more he got it wrong. with a strong urge to help, hua approached the male with gentle steps.

"...do you need any help?"

he spoke to the male with soft words, as not to startle him, but the trainee was startled anyways. when the trainee turned around, hua was face to face with one of the most beautiful faces he has ever seen.

"Ah-ah, sorry for startling you, but I've been watching you for a bit, sorry if that sounds creepy, but...I can help you with that step, if you want."

hua watched the male's face go through so many emotions within seconds. hua was actually expecting the male to continue the silence, but after a few minutes, the male finally spoke.

"...if it's not any inconvience to you, yes please."

his voice was barely audible, but hua picked it up instantly. with a gentle smile, hua nodded and walked over to the male's side.

"Alright, so the move is actually quite easy if you have someone break it down slowly for you. Here, watch..."
