Personality

A coward, basically. Spineless. And yet so endearing! Cannot stand the mortifying ideal of being known. Very shy. Craves attention but has no idea how to get it. Not one to start conversation. Extremely good-hearted but too much of a coward to act on this goodwill. So he usually ends up doing nothing. A bit unreliable. Paralyzed by indecision.

Background

Moonsoo has lived at Letalis Apartments for almost his entire life. The apartment complex has been passed down from his father's side of the family for generations. Not even Moonsoo's father was quite sure of how old the building was.

His mother died under mysterious circumstances when he was seven years old - and by mysterious circumstances, Moonsoo really means that he just can't remember. Whenever he tried to ask his father about it, his face would go blank and he would clam up for the rest of the day. Eventually he stopped asking.

Moonsoo's father was very strict with him as a child. In retrospect, it was probably the best way to go about things, considering the nature of Letalis. One wrong move from an unruly child could be a matter of life or death. As a child, Moonsoo never understood this, so he resented his father for a very long time.

It wasn't until he left home for college at eighteen did he realize that his father was just trying to protect him from horrors that he couldn't even dream of. He got his bachelors degree in biology at Sogang University. Although the university was also in Seoul, he opted to live on campus instead of at Letalis because he was afraid of all the strange things that took place there.

Although he was no longer living at Letalis, he visited the apartment complex many times, suddenly realizing that he dearly missed his father's company. He did not realize how much of an anchor his father actually was to him until he moved out.

As he was living in the dorms, Moonsoo was no longer a resident at Letalis, and the strange things at Letalis held no power over him. Because of this, he got cocky. He was no longer afraid of the dangers there. He forgot that even though the rules at Letalis no longer applied to him, they still applied to his father.

The day before Moonsoo was set to move back into Letalis (he was going to live at Letalis for grad school to cut down on tuition costs), he opened the door to someone claiming to be a neighbor. They said they were from room 4H. There is no 4H at Letalis.

As he was not a resident yet, the thing left Moonsoo alone. His father was not so lucky.

Now Moonsoo is faced with the guilt of causing his father's death, finishing his first year at grad school, and an entire apartment complex to run.

Song Moonsoo

Relationships

Song Hyunjoon - Moonsoo's father. Died last winter at the age of 58. His obituary says he died of a heart attack but Moonsoo knows better. Hyunjoon was a strict man, but he had a terrible soft spot for his son - this didn't show a lot while living at Letalis because Hyunjoon was extremely paranoid about his son's safety. He was a man of few words, something Moonsoo seems to have inherited from him.

Song Minah - Moonsoo's mother. She died when he was seven years old at the age of 33. Moonsoo cannot remember for the life of him how she died, and his father never told him. His memories of her are hazy now but he does recall her being very loud and friendly. The complete opposite of his father.

Song Hyerin - (faceclaim: Yeojin from LOONA) Moonsoo's little sister. 17 years old. She had been attending an all-girls' boarding school but decided to spend her last year at the local high school so she could live at Letalis with her brother. A strong and reliable girl. Could be The Runaway's friend and/or love interest.

Choi Seulhwa - The owner of the cafe on the first floor. A stout and jovial woman. She was best friends with Moonsoo's mother. She lives on the second floor in apartment 2E.

Lady Oh - One of the tenants at Letalis who lives in apartment 3D. According to his father, she has been living at Letalis for forty years, and her appearance has never changed. Moonsoo has no idea how old she is. A mysterious and quiet woman.

Kim Jiyeon - Moonsoo's advisor. She and Moonsoo's father went to college together. She kind of acts as his third parent. She and her girlfriend come over to his apartment a lot to make sure he isn't dead. They bring cooked meals sometimes. She considers all of her students as her own children.

Kim Haneul - One of Moonsoo's only friends. Just as shy as him. Goth. They met at a freshmen seminar in Sogang. Entered the workforce right after getting his bachelor's. They don't meet each other in person very often, but they do play online multiplayer games together on the PS4 almost every night.

Park Sunwoo - A fellow grad student at POSTECH. They met by chance when both of them left their respective classrooms to have a smoke break. Not exactly someone Moonsoo would have immediately became friends with, but they kept meeting by chance on campus even though their studies are completely unrelated. Also, she is extremely friendly.

Song Moonsoo

Typical Schedule

Moonsoo goes straight to the lab at POSTECH when he wakes up. He likes to go before his class to fulfill his daily duties as a lab assistant. His professor tells him that he could always drop by after class so that he doesn't have to come so early but Moonsoo hates the idea of having to go back home late at night. Moonsoo almost always forgets to eat lunch so he eats as soon as he gets home in the late afternoon.

When he gets home, he usually reviews the material discussed in class. The laborious amount of studying required for his grad program comes easily to him, especially because the particular grad program he is in allows extremely personalized study. He is at POSTECH's School of Interdisciplinary Bioscience and Bioengineering (I-BIO). More specifically, he is studying mycology. His thesis is focusing on the possible cancer-preventing effects of shiitake mushrooms.

After studying, he takes Buns for a walk.

At night, he plays on his PS4 to unwind. Then he tries to go asleep but fails because he always finds interesting new research articles to read before bed.

Although Moonsoo gets a small stipend for his work at the lab, the majority of his income comes from Letalis.

Apartment 4A

Moonsoo's bedroom is more of a nest. He is like a crow and collects tiny little trinkets that catch his eye to surround his bed like a halo.

The kitchen used to be bare but now that his sister lives with him there are a few things there. She sleeps in the other bedroom (Moonsoo's apartment is the only unit in the entire complex that has two bedrooms instead of one).

There are a lot of plants scattered throughout Moonsoo's apartment, big and small.

His apartment is cozy but chaotic. There is just so much stuff everywhere - mostly huge books about mushrooms. And loose pages from research papers. And field research notebooks.

About Letalis

Moonsoo has lived at Letalis almost his entire life - he didn't have much of a choice in that matter. His initial impression of Letalis which has persisted until now is that it is a cursed place that he will never understand.

As Moonsoo is shy, he struggles with interacting with other tenants. But he is trying his best.

Lifestyle

Cleanliness - Lots of things are scattered around Moonsoo's apartment. It looks crazy but to him he knows exactly where everything is. Although Moonsoo is very messy, he is not dirty. The common area, kitchen, and bathroom are all very clean. He is obsessed with pursuing a zero-waste lifestyle.

Food - Moonsoo has no idea how to cook. He always orders take-out, or he eats microwavable meals.

Sleeping schedule - Sleep late, wake up early. His body just naturally only needs about five to six hours of sleep.

Spooky Tingz

Moonsoo is alone a lot. His friend circle is small and their schedules do not mesh well together. Plus, he is always busy studying or conducting research.

As he has lived at Letalis all his life, he believes in the supernatural. Maybe not vampires or werewolves and the like, but he definitely believes that there are other things out there.
