nicknames
dansel kwon the name he went by when he lived in the usa. the funny story behind it is that it's supposed to be hansel (after hansel & gretel because little monji loved the story, especially the "eating candies" part and "kicking an old witch's in the face" part as well) but he was young back then and cannot pronounce the name hansel clearly. plus, it sounds like dansel anyways thus it got stuck.

monnie dear god, not this moniker, please. it's already so agonizing for him to do aegyo. but to do aegyo with the said moniker? that will probably send the poor boy to his grave. he dislikes this moniker due to the fact that it turns him to a bright tomato in an instant, the tips of his ears red as me+u fans continue to call him that. courtesy of female fans, or noona fans, to be exact. they love to baby him and pinch his cheeks. to be honest, his dislike is nonexistent, only a form of dramatic overreaction to something that embarrassed him. in reality, he doesn't mind much. in fact, he doesn't mind at all, thinking it's kinda cute and endearing at times. but what he minds, however, is how his so called me+u "members"  to no end about the said nickname. monji likes to think himself as a strong, ferocious tiger that can snap it's enemies in half, not like the cute kitten the noonas coo at and perceive him as. monji continuously reminds himself that "it's just a nickname for god's sake, no need to get worked over it. get it together kwon" everytime. in short, he has mixed feelings about it. this moniker and how his fans shout the name "monnie" in glee radiates the same energy as an emo, goth-loving boy forced to dress up as a princess in his sister's birthday party.

anime boY OF YOUR DREAMS a look at monji's face and the gears in your head will click in place as to why he's called this. courtesy of foreign fans. it's due to the fact - no, opinions of the fans that he looked like he just jumped straight out of an anime. monji thinks this title only serves to make him look like an egotistical dude who's only friend is a hand mirror. but it does boost his self confidence up a bit, so there's that. he doesn't mind reading it (not aloud) or seeing it in the comments section of me+u's social medias, but having someone say it directly to him will probably result in a speechless  monji who's reduced to nothing but a tomato squirming in his seat.

demonji in the words of s, he is "an evil lil ". in a joking manner, of course. courtesy of s, who "cleverly" (yes, notice the sarcasm) came up with this joke of a nickname. it was supposed to be a pun, combing the words demon and monji together. he gained this nickname due to that one time (and several other times) where youngho asked him to get him a water bottle but monji refused because "you have legs, hyung. use it" or that other time where he purposely sneezed back at one of his me+u hyungs who accidentally sneezed at him.

monCHi a combination of monji and mochi. it's a term of endearment of some sort, one that's fit to be called to a baby for behaving unknowingly cute. despite monji being, well, monji, he does have some of his innocent moments. as to why he's being referred as a mochi, it's due to the fact that his baby fat is still present and calmly inviting you to pinch it (think of jennie's mandu-like cheeks). made by yours truly aka his me+u members. this nickname, once called, is followed by an action (and by action, i mean pinching / poking / making monji's cheeks suffer). monji usually brushes s' hands off. but other times, he's defenseless and lets s do whatever they want as he regrets his life choices.

miscellaneous jimon, monch, kwon d / d kwon (what other rappers in me+u will say before monji raps his part. it's like them calling out to him. it's also what monji refers to himself as before his part comes up. think of mamamoo's moonbyul saying moonstar and bambam's double b), dayumn-on (most popular among thirsty fans), etc.
languages
english fluent. it was the language he used to communicate on a daily basis while living in the usa. he also communicates in english with his parents, besides communicating with them in korean. whenever he can't seem to find the correct words in korean to express himself, he turns to english. it's also a language he naturally switches to (as if on auto pilot) whenever he's on his peak of emotions (when he's furious, when he's ecstatic etc). he's very updated in terms of slangs and phrases, never forgetting to watch the latest vines or trends.

korean almost fluent. if it weren't for his parents teaching him the said language in his early childhood while living in the usa and proceeding to communicate in the said language whenever he facetimes or skypes his relatives that lives all the way in korea, mainly his grandparents, monji would probably get a you tried sticker. he's fluent in korean though, despite some of his pronounciations sounding off at times, giving away the fact that he had lived abroad for quite some time.

appearance there's this childlike quality to monji's features, as if he's cursed to look young throughout his entire life. his round eyes would've help in making him look more alive and interesting, if it weren't for the dull, sullen vibe monji emits. his nose and thick lips both make the female species go crazy and, at the same time, jealous. even barbie would be jealous. his slight baby fat is still ever so present, something monji genuinely dislikes (as it serves as some sort stress pillow to s whenever they're stressed an in need of something to pinch or touch at to get rid of all that pent up stress. sadly, monji's cheeks is the prime victim of this illegal act). whenever monji goes on a diet though, those sinful baby fat are replaced by a jawline so sharp it could cut through diamonds. his hair is rather long in the front part, falling to the front of his face thus making his eyes disappear. he never dyed his black hair, except for when he dyed it blonde for his mv filming. he doesn't have any piercings or other decorations adorned.

monji stands at around 175 cm and weighs around 57 kg. he's rather average in terms of height and weight, since it's the standard weight and height of most idols. though monji secretly wished to be muscular one day, gaining those abs that he always wanted in his dreams. he leans more to the skinny and lean type, as his muscles are nonexistent (or growing, to be exact). monji's not the type to pay attention to how he looks, and that goes for the hate comments about his appearance well. he would brush off any compliments with a slight smile and a tiny head shake, treating them as nothing much. he doesn't think himself as super attractive, but rather standard in terms of looks. he's okay with how he looks though.

fashion the first thing you notice about monji's style is that it doesn't stray far from dark colours, and that he's always in a t-shirt and skinny jeans combo. the key points to his style is that he never tucks his shirt in and he doesn't like to wear 7/8 jeans / rolling his jeans up so that his ankles are exposed. he dresses like an actual middle schooler, since his fashion knowledge is rather limited. monji prefers to wear clothes that he feels comfortable in, not wanting to put effort in dressing up unless it's for something important. thus, besides t-shirts, you'll usually see him clad in thin sweaters, varsity jacket, windbreakers, plaid shirts, denim jacket, black leather jacket, denim jacket with hoodie, bomber jacket, bomber jacket with hoodie, etc. his go-to shoes are converses, sneakers, high top sneakers, doc martens, boots and timberlands. another key point of monji's style is that he doesn't really like anything ripped and showing his skin, so you probably won't see him in a sleeveless shirt and shorts in the summer.

he likes to wear beanies and snapbacks, and he usually carries a backpack (not the big type or the laptop backpack type, but an actual backpack that any school student would wear to school). besides snapacks and beanies, he's usually seen in accessories like chains, watches, chain necklace with rings, half frame glasses, gold aviator eyeglasses (the vintage / retro type) and clear frame glasses. for formal wear, he usually switches to suits, blazers, or turtleneck and topcoat combo, wearing oxfords instead of sneakers.

"a hero named villain."

with his devil-may-care attitude and lazy, detached aura, monji gives off a sombre vibe. you know that kid in class who seems to have dark clouds follow them everywhere? the loner that sits in the back of the class, the one who doesn't seem interested in whatever the teacher has to say and values sleep as something more important than studying? yeah, that kid is probably monji.

monji sees the world through a microscope. he sees the entire picture, so to say. he's a guy who knows he's right and knows his facts, coming off as arrogant. when really, he's not. he has a rather straightforward approach to life, knowing what he wants and what he needs to achieve it, by any necessary means possible. he's someone who knows their strengths and weaknesses well, and knows what they are fully capable of doing. he doesn't take well when others exploits his weaknesses and corrects his wrongdoings, especially when he thinks that he's right. never wrong what monji thinks is right. he does step down and admits to his faults, but until then, when he thinks he's right, he will not back down.

truthfully, monji is like a chamber of talents waiting to be unlocked. if he were to put more efforts, he would've succeed. but he's passive, not wanting to go out of his way in putting efforts where he deems it's not required. that is one of his flaws in a way, as what he sees as obvious or important might not seem that way to other members. this affects the amount of effort and will he puts in when doing things. he's driven and passionate in the things he values however, seeking to achieve good results and accomplish goals that he sets upon himself. he has high standards, and with his stubborness, comes his perfectionist streak. he's stubborn in a sense that he has his own ways and is not easily swayed, but he'll readily accepts the opinions of others that he deems good enough. he's not the type of person to ridicule one's ideas, and will even get into a heated debate / argument with those who ridicules you. he does, however, gets rather annoyed with those who's only about talk and doesn't make sense. he's a no-nonsense kind of person. he has his feet planted firmly in the ground and his head up in the skies. most of the time he maintains a good balance of both idealism and practicality. but it's not a rare occassion to see monji either too lost in his own little world or too caught up with life he momentarily forgos his dreams.

monji likes to think of himself as an independent individual, the type that is not really fond of asking and receving help, especially receiving help of something he knows he's fully capable of, yet cannot do. he's a perfectionist to the core. asking or receiving help bruises his ego, and makes him feel utterly useless. but he will forever remember a person's good deeds (to him).

people tend to be surprised whenever monji points out little details unseen to the eyes or retells a past memory that seems insignificant ("hyung, remember when you went backstage after our debut and you went back up the stage again with red eyes as if you've been crying?" "...monji, that was ages ago."), as he's someone who doesn't seem like he pays any attention. people also gets taken aback whenever monji acts out of character, aka showing emotions, as he has trouble in expressing his feelings, thus coming of as a rather cold person.

he's someone you can rely and trust on. he may seem like he's either too lethargic to move or lost in his own little world, and heck he's probably the last person you'll turn to for help, but the cogs in his head never stops turning. an intelligent person will think their way through meticulously, while a lazy person just wants to get things done quickly and chooses the fastest but efficient way possible. fortunately for monji, he's a bit of both. his rational way of thinking and sharp-witted senses aid him in turning a situation around, and throwing back a person's words, making it as if they digged their own graves. he's manipulative, but not in a villainous way. he's the type of person who'll remember your exact words, twists his words and somehow manages to have your very own words thrown back at you. he's someone who can think his way out, and can see through someone's lies.

in turn he avoids confrontations. monji's a bystander who'll jump into action only when he deems the situation  as out of control. for example, if he sees x bullying b, he won't do anything as "it's not my problem", but only when x's bullying becomes too much for him, does he saves b (he reasons that he did so not to help b, but because a is annoying his daily sleeping session. but of course, there is a small sense of guilt eating away at his heart that pushes him to save b, despite monji denying it).

he's that type of punk who'll tell you to do it yourself when you ask him to go get something (for example, he'll say "you have legs, hyung, you can get it yourself" when a me+u member asks him to get a water bottle)(another example, when monji sees someone crying while the teacher is teaching, he'll say "why are you crying? we're in the middle of a lesson"). in a way he's rather rude, but in a light cheeky kind of way, as his words reminds one of a boy going through puberty, an immature boy desperately wanting to grow up and be seen as an adult. this attitude of his sometimes stirs up talks of how monji is mean to s. in actual reality, monji's humane moments mostly happen behind the scenes. since he's more comfortable standing in the back and not having chances to talk, he doesn't show much of his personality, thus it's not everyday you get to see monji do an act of kindness. simple things speaks volumes when it comes to monji, even if it's something as measly as a tap in the back as an act of encouragement. monji struggles in expressing himself, and when he does try to using words, his words contain double meanings, if you look close enough. due to how his little acts or words being overlooked as nothing special, a lot of people mistake him as someone rude, or savage, in a lighter term.

in terms of social situations, monji is rather awkward at times, but his wicked sense of humour makes up for it though. when asked, in a variety show for example, to publicly humiliate himself, he has no problem doing so, but a passing thought of not understanding the meaning of this humiliation nor why must he do it crosses his head. he's vague in a sense that sometimes people don't understand what he's doing or saying ("so monji, what do you think of our next comeback having a more serious element to it?" "yeah").  truth to be told, monji thinks himself as a boring person. if he were to be put in a room alone with a me+u member while the cameras are rolling, he probably won't be the person that initiates a conversation. off camera monji is more or less the same with on camera monji, except he's more relaxed and talks a bit more when he doesn't have a camera scrutinizing his every move.

he's the type of person to correct what he thinks is wrong. monji approaches situations with careful manner, calculating his moves and rather wary of the possible outcomes. for example, monji is not the type of person who purposely calls someone stupid, even if it's just a joke. he knows calling someone names might cause hidden dislikes and unwanted situations can happen due to that in the future, thus he avoids saying or doing things that might cause trouble. if such things were to happen, monji will most likely remove himself from such situations.

his rather mean and aloof vibe comes from his reserved self. people tend to automatically assume that, since he doesn't say much and appears expressionless, he's a person who's full of himself (think of f(x)'s krystal). in actuality, monji is an individual that is hard to get to know. he's rather guarded and does not easily trust people, due to how his parents control every aspect of his life. he feels like he only has his own self to rely on, and reaching out to people is a foreign concept to him. with the addition of his somewhat nonchalant outlook in life, he's the perfect target of misunderstandings and rumours of being an ill-mannered idol. he's the last person you'll probably turn to for help, but if you seek out his help, he'll try his best to help you out. he's rather chill and coolheaded, able to stay calm and collected in dire situations. he prefers to stay composed and have a peaceful state of mind so that he can think his way through more clearly.

if you're a classmate of monji, or you happened to have the chance to train alongside him, you'll find that he's not a boy of many words, keeping to himself most of the time. it's not that he's shy, or he's quiet, or he has social problems. truthfully, he has no problems in communicating. the problem, however, lies in his lack of words to say. when asked why doesn't monji speak a lot, he'll probably say something along the lines of "i don't have anything to say,". he's someone who's rather efficient in his words, saying what he needs to say, and zips his mouth shut if he has nothing else important nor necessary to say. this in turn makes him look like some sort of antisocial emo boy. though monji is rather respectful and will listen to your small talks out of courtesy, you'll find yourself enjoying having in-depth conversations about anything with him. of course, you'll need to go through the large wall he's built around himself first.

by now you must've summarized monji as something akin to an emotionless lazy robot who never seems serious about anything. there's more to that, though. he's not a villain, nor a hero. kwon monji is just a boy, a boy with dreams and fears.

tl;dr : monji is like a dull and dusty treasure box that needs constant polishing so that people can see how valuable it is.

"a diamond in the rough."

history
kwon monji was born in atlanta, usa. he was an only child and came from a middle class family. his parents, kwon hyukmin, an ophthalmologist, and kwon yooyeon, a real estate agent, were about to adopt a child before they had monji, as they've been trying to have a kid for years but failing to have their wishes fulfilled. those were hard times for hyukmin and yooyeon. a child was all they longed for to complete their little family, a child of their own. once they finally discovered that monji was on the way, they were so happy they couldn't stop crying.

monji grew up in an environment overflowing with love. everyday was a day full of affections and laughter, like a picture perfect family. his parents were his very own superheroes. there's never a day that goes by without his dad picking him up and throwing him in the air. monji was first in line in being the subject of his dad's terrible dad jokes. as for his mom, monji has a daily routine of kissing his mom's cheeks good morning everyday. the kwons family life were full of harmony and light. monji's parents cherishes him a lot, ready to fight anyone that dares to hurt their precious son. young monji likes to hold both of his parents' hands wherever he goes. he puts a lot of trust in them. he was a good kid, always listening to his parents and rarely disobeying their orders. he never stays up past his bedtime and doesn't join the other kids who were playing in the mud. he was a goody two shoes, the typical perfect child every parent longs for.

as monji gets older, he slowly comes to realize how he feels smothered by his parents' love sometimes. he diminishes such thoughts, for it sounds as if he's ungrateful to receive so much attention and love from his parents, when there are kids around the world who don't even get a simple nod of acknowledgement from their parents. monji continues to live under the guidance and tutelage of his beloved parents, doing whatever they want him to do, wanting to please his parents and make them proud of him. he feels a sense of shame whenever he fails to do what his parents expected him to do.

he's rather quiet in school, doesn't cause trouble and is genereally liked by the teachers. he was the teachers' pet, so to say. he didn't have many friends, as he lacks social skills due to not enganging in activities with the other kids in his neighbourhood. he lacks experience in making friends, but despite so, monji desperately wants to join in the fun. his teachers encourages him to join his friends during playtime at every break time, but monji couldn't. in his eyes, there's an invisible wall separating him from the other kids. he doesn't know how to interact with them. the teachers secretly pities little monji who watches his friends play outside behind the classroom windows, his face an expression of longing. his parents were always there telling him what to do, and when monji is alone, he becomes lost and confused. he gets anxious when socializing with his fellow classmates, not knowing what to say, afraid of accidentally hurting their feelings. he wishes his parents were there to calm his nerves down whenever he tries to make new friends.

during his teenage years, monji finally had enough. it's as if the truth was finally clear in his eyes, after years of disregarding it, after all this time. he comes to terms with the fact that his parents were too overprotective of him, encasing him in a small world. it's as if he was a puppet, and his parents controls his strings. he was a specimen and every single move he makes was scrutinized through the microscope that are his parents' eyes. only during his teenage years does monji finally understood how little knowledge he has of the world outside. everything he knew of, it was all thanks to his parents. they decide everything for him, even choosing the friends he can hang out with. monji used to disregard how his parents can be overbearing at times, knowing that his mom and dad knows what's best for him. he knows it's because he was a miracle child to his parents, a child they've longed for so long that once god finally blessed them, they'll do anything to keep monji safe and sound. he finally breaks free of his parents' leash on him, becoming a rebel in his puberty phase. at first, monji feels like he doesn't know anything. years of following whatever his parents planned for him turned him into a follower with no mind of his own. monji was determind to follow and live by his own rules this time. his parents may have took away his childhood, but he's not going to let them take away his remaining youth.

call it dramatic, or a typical phase every young boy goes through, but monji felt like he needs to defy the rules and disobey his parents. he had enough of being smothered by his helicopter parents. thus, monji purposely did bad in his academics, not putting effort in it simply to get back at his parents who made him study throughout his childhood when he could've went outside to make friends. he evades his parents' questions, not picking up their phone calls nor replying to their messages. when confronted, monji lies about his whereabouts. his parents were shocked with his sudden change of behaviour. but the more they try to get him to open up about his troubles, the more he closes and distance himself from his parents. he knows his parents were disappointed in him, and there's still a part of the dutiful son in monji's heart that makes him want to go on his knees and kiss his parents' feet, apologizing for his reckless actions. but he preserved, continuing to act like a sour emo kid. monji turned from being a good student at school, to the quiet kid who sleeps at the back of the class. his rebel phase went on for a while, disappointing his parents even further.

that is when he met robin jeon, or jeon seokho, in his freshman year. he was the one who introduced monji to music. seokho was already familiar with the underground rap scene, having already make his own music during middle school. he was the very first true friend monji ever had. the two of them originally had a bumpy start, with seokho approaching him and monji avoiding him. after a series of push and pull between the two, they formed a close bond. the two of them made a youtube channel under the name danxrob, where they share their covers of raps and their own music. seokho was the one who consoles monji on his wrongdoings. it was because of him that monji toned down his rebellious phase, begrudgingly starts to open up to his parents again, but still maintaining a distance.

during the awkward phase with his parents (they were hesitant in approaching monji when he starts to acknowledge them again, not wanting to make a wrong move and make him ignore them like last time) his turns to music, to fill that empty void in his heart. he makes songs to distract him, finding it a nice way to let out his feelings. it was mostly rap, containing his life stories and his suppressed emotions. one day he showed one of his songs to seokho, who encouraged him to try and send it to a kpop entertainment through online audition. at first, monji didn't take seokho's idea seriously. his parents will definitely disapprove of such act. becoming an idol? surely his parents will say that is not the life plan they have in store for monji. they will be against it, no doubt about that. somehow, that boils monji even more and makes him want to do it. he's had enough of his parents controlling his life and deciding his every move. so he sent his self-produced song to a few entertainments, with seokho's guidance and knowledge of the kpop world. a few of them being jyp, sm, yg, pledis and jellyfish. when monji finally received news that he was accepted to pledis, he proudly shoved the acceptance email in front of his parents.

they had a big argument afterwards. his parents didn't want monji to move to korea, but monji doesn't back down. moving to korea means freedom and independence, something monji has been longing for a long time. the disagreement between the two worsens the neutral awkward phase monji and his parents had previously. the two were like ticking bombs, waiting for the other to blow up. monji's mom and dad weren't able to change monji's mind. out of love for their son (they couldn't bring themselves to neglect their son, no matter how horrible he acts), his mother made arrangements for monji to live with his aunt (his mom's sister), while his father helps monji to pack. his parents secretly hoped that this was all just an act, that monji wasn't truly going to leave his parents behind. in the end, monji moved to korea. his parents have no choice but to let him go. it was one of the most heartbreaking moments for them, as monji leaving their side felt akin to their hearts being forcefully ripped from their body.

in korea, monji felt like a fish out of water. with his parents not around, he felt truly free, but scared at the same time. he lived with his aunt, continuing his remaining years of high school while being a trainee. monji continuing his education was something that goes without saying, as he knows the only thing his parents asks of him is to do well in school. as a way of trying to free himself out of his guilt of leaving his parents behind, monji tried to do better at school. his parents checks up on him often through his aunt, as monji is still giving his parents the silent treatment. when the lineup for me+u was revealed, the only people he celebrated with are his aunt and seokho. deep down, monji wondered how his parents would react. it would already mean so much to him if they did a simple nod of acknowledging his success. unknown to monji, deep down, his parents are relieved that their son was in good hands, and that he was happy. when they do finally tell him how proud they are of what he's achieved, monji felt like he's on cloud 9. he's off to a good start, and just maybe, the beginning of his adventure.

trivias
01  likes deep convos, anything sour (people joked his love for sour food turned him into a sour boy), people who respects his boundaries, prawn sandwich, sleeping with the ac on full blast, crunchy biscuits, putting an excessive amount of fried onions on his food, emotionally strong people, etc.
02  dislikes being controlled, being asked to clean his room (and doing household chores in general), getting soaked by the rain, being surrounded by idiots, when someone misplaces his things, the chirping of birds (it annoys him for some weird reason), horror movies (it's pointless and crappy, in his opinion), liars, aegyo, anything sweet (candies, desserts), going to the gym, having his views / personal beliefs mocked at, etc.
03  he's the type of member that fans will make compilation videos of "damon wanting to murder me+u for 5 minutes" or "me+u annoying damon for 10 minutes", or make threads of him looking like he's planning a world domination. he's that member who constantly suffers over me+u's antics, like he internally goes "not this sh*t again" whenever a me+u member starts to do questionable things.
04  his name in hangul is 퀀몬지.
05  fears he'll never be good enough, that years from now he won't be able to have control of his life, that he won't be able to truly taste freedom.
06  hopes to be able to truly enjoy his life one day, to be sure in his pursuit of his goals, to become a better person, to mend his relationship with his parents.
07  had always wanted to learn how to play the electric guitar.
08  part of the intellectual squad who pours milk before cereal.
09  has a soundcloud under the name kdnzl. he posts his self-produced songs there. every song he produced has a catchline / tagline (like every song cha cha malone produces, you can hear i need a cha cha beat boy in the beginning), which is damonsta in the house (don't laugh, he was young and inexperienced in making songs back then).
10  has a youtube channel which he manages with his friend seokho under the name danxrob. the two usually posts their covers of raps and songs there, and even collaborated in making music.
11  his all time favourite band are daft punk and m83
12  if he's not gaming, practicing or writing songs, he's sleeping. the type of member who stays in the dorm whenever there's no schedules and finds bliss in resting.
13  had always wanted to learn how to play the electric guitar.
14  enjoys reading / watching thriller and sci-fi genres.
15  when asked who inspires him / who he looks up to, he'll first say seokho, his best friend. he was the one who got him into music, after all. kpop artists monji respects and looks up to are bang yongguk, bts' rm and bigbang's g-dragon.
16  was part of his middle school's debate team.
17  not very athletic. doesn't really enjoy sports.
18  hardcore gamer. wants to save up money to buy professional gaming gears. the first game he started playing was tekken. nowadays he plays mobile legends, league of legends and player unknown battle ground. he enjoys all genres of games, but he finds first person shooter (fps) and real time strategy (rts) games more fun.
19  he usually stays behind and claps along in variety shows. also the type of person who (comically) judges s from the side whenever they get  up and do something stupid.
20  really hard to make him laugh, since he has a dark sense of humour. he's also the type to ruin jokes by pointing out the flaws and anything illogical in it.
21  is currently attending an online university as a business administration major (reason for that is that he doesn't see music as a major and more of his passion).
22  when asked what he will be if he weren't an idol, monji will reply that he doesn't know. he'll say that he hasn't figured out what he wants to do with his life yet, but making music doesn't seem like an impossible future for him.

sometimes monji wonders if he was the one at fault, that he mistakes his parents' love for him as an act of them controlling his life. but then he thinks back to all the times he missed out chances in experiencing youth, and not living the most of his life, and now he's certain it's because of his parents. in hyukmin and yooyeon's eyes, they want the best for their son. their son, who they consider as a gift from god that they will guard until their very last breath. they did guard him, but they forget that monji has his own life and his own plan. when monji leaves their side, they finally realized the flaws in their way of raising monji up. they coddled him too much, constantly hovering over his shoulders that they forgot to ask what his best interests are and lie at. they forgot, and assumes everything by themselves, assumes that monji will follow along, not taking monji's feelings and personal opinions into consideration. they were blinded with the thought that they know what's best for monji. but it was also wrong of monji to act out like that instead of talking things through with his parents. both sides are wrong. monji's relationship with his parents are currently strained, as both sides still have a hard time accepting reality. monji's parents does make the first move in making amends, but it's still a long way to go. monji became the person he is due to his parents, lowkey blaming them that he turned out this way.

 JEON "ROBIN" SEOKHO
best friend.
seokho was the one who brought about change in monji. he was the one who introduced monji to music. if it wasn't for seokho, god knows where monji will be right now. monji won't admit this, but he truly cherishes seokho and is grateful for his constant presence. the two of them balance each other out. if monji were the fire, seokho will be the water that calms him down. the two are on the opposite ends of the spectrum in regard to expressing their feelings. they make it work, forming an unbreakable bond. monji truly supports seokho and his dreams, despite being disappointed when seokho expresses his disinterest in the idol industry. monji always gets life updates through seokho, eventhough the latter is the one who often initiates the conversation. monji will definitely give seokho vip tickets to me+u's concerts in the future.  (fc : ateez's san)

 AHN YOUNGHO
hyung.
monji would say that youngho was an acquaintance of his, in the beginning. they're like two sides of the same coin. youngho was older than him, but monji sometimes disagrees with his way of thinking. it's like seeing parts of yourself on someone else. monji will deny this, but he's appreciative of youngho, as he's like an older brother figure monji looks up to. maybe after wall-breaking moments and constant tries in improving their relationship with each other, they can become great friends. who knows.

stagename damon (데이몬)
pronounced as da as in day and mon as in monster. the weird pronounciation comes from combining his english name, dansel, and his korean name, monji, together, while still keeping each name's pronounciation. there's not much reason as to why he chose that as his stagename, he just thinks it sounds and looks cool.

training period 2 years, since june 2017

training history monji wasn't really sure what he's doing when he first started to train. sure, he was there because he got accepted, but he's also mostly there because he defied his parents to purposely get back at them for controlling his life. the trainee world was a completely new world that monji never knew of. he didn't put much effort in the beginning, thinking that it was only temporary and that he won't seriously become an idol.

monji didn't stay in the dorms, since he lives with his aunt. going to train after school was a rather tiring routine for monji, but it's a routine he doesn't mind following. it does take a toll on him sometimes, resulting in a rather stressed monji that lashes out at simple things.

he didn't really bother to make friends with the trainees. it wasn't because he felt like he was superior. rather, they somehow avoided him. he was a foreigner after all, and since he doesn't speak a lot, most of the trainees initially thought that monji couldn't speak nor understand korean at all. he did make a few acquaintances though.

his unclear direction of his career slowly starts to become clear as monji puts in more effort in his training. he treated music as something trivial at first, as a source of temporary distraction and healing. yet, as monji devoted more of his time in making music, his passion grows. he finally found something he's willing to bleed for.

he excels in the rapping department the most, his rap coach praising his predebut works. monji found dancing difficult and singing useless because he never seems to improve in those two particular areas. he does slowly improve as time passes by.

interview
❝ please introduce yourself. ❞
monji stares in the distance blankly, masking his bubbling nervousness. he's never done this before. there are high possibilites of him messing up. but he can't. he musn't. monji lightly tapped his foot, chanelling his nervous energy somewhere else and emptying out any unwanted thoughts that can potentially mess up his interview. monji took a deep breath. i got this, he chants like a mantra in his mind. "hello, i am me+u's damon. nice to meet you." monji bows his head, a small smile at his lips. he clasps both of his hands, and attempts to sit straighter.

❝ how do you feel about becoming a
member of me+u? ❞
monji stayed quiet at first, finding the right words to express his pent up emotions. "to be honest," he slowly starts, tucking his hands inside his jeans' pocket. he curls his fingers into a fist, hidden from view. "i was rather pressured, at first. there's always that lingering feeling of never being good enough, you know? coupled with the expectations of people around you, it gets tough at times. but i had my support system by my side. the members go through it too, each in their own way. it gets stressful, but we all learned to get by." monji relaxes, uncurling his fist. "i think pressure and hardships are necessary in the path of becoming an idol. everyone encounters it one way or another in life." monji brushed his hair back, uncurling his fist. "but more than  that, i feel honoured. and grateful, for being given the chance to debut. it's a one in a life time chance." monji's blank face might deludes one into thinking that he doesn't mean any of his words, but if you look closely, there's an underlying  feeling of warmth at his tone.

❝ what do you think of being the
7th member to be revealed? ❞
"tough. if you think about it, the number seven is the middle of the number thirteen. by then, people would've either lost interest or continued to follow through me+u's universe, to see if it will become something worthy of attention towards the half end. the way i see it, being the one in the middle to be revealed acts as a benchmark to check whether me+u will flop or not. i believe we won't." monji wondered if he should add in his worries and doubts on how people will react to his song, to his debut, to him in general. "seeing the members each do well in their solos heightened my nervousness." monji recomposed himself, taking a deep breath. "they all worked hard. and i shall, too."

❝ what can you tell us about your
debut song? ❞
"sure thing. we'll be alright is what i intended as the point of the song. you know how these days, everything falls into a monotonous beat, and there's a growing sense of wanting to break free?" monji starts, his eyes glinted, a wave of seriousness painted on his face. he momentarily got lost in his thoughts, a deep look of contemplation shown in his facial features. his mind swims around, trying to find the right words to convey his thoughts on the song. he looks up, a small apologetic smile on his lips. he continues in a more calmer tone. "i imagined gold as the substance of cure for that longing. we all have a little gold inside us, right? therefore we should feel comfortable with the way we are, with who we are. we should be content, and find blessing through the small things in life." monji his lips, weighing out what words he should say next. he proceeded in a more cool manner. "for the beats, it's has a calming, feel-good aura. lastly, the collab song. i had fun recording with [insert pledis' artist]. i hope you look forward to it. it's your decision, you can miss out on it. if you do though, you're missing out a gold chance" monji lightly cringed at his own pun. one side of his mouth tilts down, akin to a lazy smirk, as if he and the audience shared a joke no one gets.

❝ do you have any message for the
fans anticipating your debut? ❞
"thank you for watching us with interest all this time," monji bows, before straightening back up. "i am just starting my journey. it won't be easy, but i know i can make it, with your belief. i'll try my best to be the damon you look up to." monji continues determinedly. " your trust in me means a lot to me, it does wonders in strengthening me in difficult times. i thank you for that. i promise i will work hard." monji straightens out nonexistent creases in his clothes, before continuing in a more lighter tone. "i know me+u's concept might be foreign to you, but we won't disappoint you. we'll try our best not to." monji lightly drummed his fingers on his thighs, his words coming to him more easily than before. "i too, will look forward to me+u's debut. let's support each other from now on. thank you." monji thanks the audience again, this time with all his heart, sincerely.
we'll meet again
message i know that guanlin's plotline holds the sub rapper position, but in the wannaone profile he holds the lead rapper position so i hope it's okay that i used a member who holds a lead rapper position in his group. if not, then i'm more than okay to change it! ^^ as for his solo song, i used gold by offonoff ft dean. i know that i should use a song that doesnt feature / ft any artist but gold fits damon so much, plus dean's part was cutten off (in the mv) so he only appears for like 2 secs (the original version, where dean sings/raps longer, doesnt have an mv). but if you're adamant on the song choice, i shall change it ouo im sorry if the personality section is too long rip. monji is the type of person who believes that anything can be achieved through hard work, but he also simultaneously believes that everyone around him are lazy and therefore incapable of working hard. he's also the type of member that's easily misunderstood :"") i forgot to add this in the personality section, but an afterthought that crossed my mind after envisioning damon is this : since he's like that younger brother everyone has who's being a little b*tchy and rude cause he's going through puberty, it makes him all the more lovable bcs people know that deep down he has a pure and kind heart. this is my second/third boygroup app (after months) of not making bg apps :") reading back i made so many grammatical errors and some words dont make sense rip im sorry i havent written an app in a while ;;; also if i got youngho and monji's relationship wrong, im sowwie T_T #excusemycringeyaegyo both intj and istp (both are thinkers and detached) are somewhat similar yet different so i hope i was somehow able to portray their dynamics well,,,,anyways goodluck with me+u astrid aaaahh im excited >u< omaigosh this comment is so long pls excuse me

hello ayiev! i can't even begin to thank you for putting in time and effort for my story. ♡(*>ω<) also, i put guanlin as sub rapper because i took into account his appalling lack of lines, i feel he would have been able to show much growth and talent if he were given more opportunities. alas, swing didn’t think to give him a chance. i'm terribly sorry for this late review but as they say better late than never. i’m also very sorry for being retentive regarding details, you’ve work so hard and i feel so bad. with my sincere apologies established, let's dive into the nitpicking.

pros (these were recurring so i thought, i’d just generalized this section):
✓ great personality sections with solid flaws
✓ background sections include the beginning of characters’ interest in music

« KWON MONJI »
CLARIFICATION (POSSIBLY A CON):
◌ youtube account: does he continue posting through his trainee years? trainees are usually barred from owning a social media account, having one is essentially a determiner that they’ve left the company. i don’t think it is stated anywhere if he had stop posting or if he discontinued when he became a trainee.

« FAN WEIZHAN »
CONS:
✗ faceclaim is a cpop idol when i’ve stated it specifically in the cheatsheet to “please choose ONLY among the many men in the kpop industry” – would have easily let this slide but i’m not familiar with chen linong sooo i’m sorry bout this
✗ continuous emphasis on character as a “vocal god” throughout the application when counterpart is a sub vocal – pledis is not known to assign vocally superior members as sub vocals, they’re always main vocals maybe you originally planned to make this as a jaehwan/sungwoon counterpart and forgot to change these parts when you changed it into a jinyoung counterpart?

BROWNIE POINTS:
✧ very chenle-esque background, idk why but i was thinking of him when i was reading this section, maybe because i adore lele with every fiber of my being xD

« KWON MONJI »
BROWNIE POINTS:
✧ hyunbin as faceclaim! idk if you can tell but i am whipped for justice league xD

again, thanks so much for applying and best of luck! ♡‧₊˚
