Cheerful : Erika is someone who seemingly does not let anything get her down and is always laughing and smiling. When interacting with others, she'll try her best to remain enthusiastic.

background. Erika was born to a pair of Japanese parents who migrated to Singapore in the early 1990's. Her mother was a home-based piano teacher, and her father liked writing poetry in his free time. As a child, Erika quickly fell in love with how words could come together to create beautiful poems, and the beautiful piano melodies her mother would play. Erika had begged her mother to teach her how to play the piano many times as a child, and eventually got her wish when she was seven years old. After that, she started to like writing poems and coming up with piano melodies to accompany them, turning them into songs. She hoped that someday, she could perform the songs she wrote.

Erika's parents sent her to a government primary school, hoping she could earn qualifications that could get her a job in Singapore. However, school was quite tough for Erika, as she didn't know much English at first and couldn't speak to her schoolmates, and would often cry when they couldn't understand her, which made them laugh. Though she didn't understand what they said when they , it hurt. It was only when she was 10 years old that she met another girl called Olivia who was a fan of Japanese dramas and J-pop, and offered to coach her in English. Olivia too loved music and enjoyed dancing and singing, and the two girls became friends quickly.

In 2009, SNSD released their brainwashing song Gee, and Erika was instantly captured by the catchy melody when she accidentally heard the song in a shopping mall. After searching for the song on Youtube so she could download it, she ended up watching more of SNSD's songs and covering them on the piano, and she earned some followers for her channel. JYP and Alpha Entertainment had a joint audition in Singapore in 2010, but both girls were not allowed to audition yet. It was only in 2013, after they had taken their O levels, that their parents allowed them to audition. Both girls sent their audition videos to several companies, and were asked by SM to go to Korea for an audition in person. However, only Erika passed the audition and was accepted as a trainee.

— Being a big company, training at SM was of course hard. Being a foreigner, Erika had to learn Korean in addition to dance and singing. She didn't realise how much work singing actually was, she used to think it was a simple thing and she was so awkward at dancing at first. Furthermore, not everyone was kind and nice, they were only interested in their own debut and not many people were willing to coach her in Korean, dancing or singing after training. At least she reunited with Olivia after a while, and she later made friends with a girl called Woolim too. Those 2 girls made training easier for her, and gave her the confidence to improve herself, which finally led to her debut as a Blue Moon member in 2018. Though Erika did not get any main or lead positions, she's just happy she got to debut and hopes she can perform the songs she wrote one day.
