BACKGROUND Xie Bowen was born on November 7th, 2003 in Wuhan, China to Xie Guoliang and Wu Meilin. He has one older sister, Xie Anni who was born in 1996 and is 6 years older than him. Bowen's parents were pretty well off as together they owned a successful doctors office in Wuhan, so growing up Anni and Bowen were raised as the stereotypical Asian ways with their parents pushing them to become doctors, lawyers, etc...
However, Bowen was not interested in that path. He was not sure what he wanted to do, but following in his parents footsteps sure was not what he wanted to do with his life. [adding more]
When Bowen was 13 years old, he was out in the streets of Wuhan with Anni when he and his sister was both scouted by SM Entertainment. Of course, they both thought it was a scam, but after some research it turned out to actually be a SM representative scouting potential trainees in China. Anni denied the offer since she was in her last year of getting her veterinarian degree and didn't want to throw away her hard work just to go to a foreign country and probably not even debut as an idol.
Bowen was a different story. He was in middle school and had no idea what to do with his life. But in the end, he was not that confident in himself and declined the audtion. [more?]
