ENGLISH　88%　was taught by a tutor at a young age from the insistence of his father (hoping charlie would one day take over his business). due to heavy studying, charlie caught onto the language fairly easy and it has become a second language to him. his english has a faint british accent due to the fact that his english tutor was from england. tends to use some british terms here and there.

charlie was never one to speak much, which has him being rather quiet than the rest of blackout. he mostly keeps to himself, rarely feeling the need to scream or get loud and will hardly announce himself when he enters a room. and since he keeps to himself quite often, he knows how to read a room and has grown quite observant of his surroundings. along with his intelligence, his observing can be a rather deadly thing, as he's perceptive of the things he observes and such. charlie may be quiet and kept to himself, but he's never truly had a good hold on his emotions. whenever he is sad, his sadness comes off in waves. the littles things could make him super happy when normally bigger things would pull such reactions. such smalls things could make him cry buckets when for others they wouldn't cry at all. it's something he has never grew out of and probably won't either.

due to his father's strong attitude, charlie grew to be rather timid. he would rather run away from uncomfortable situations than confront them dead on. he's easy to shake up and shiver whenever near lots of anger, even flinching in bad situations. insecurity eats away at charlie every second of every day. due to his father never supporting his dreams, he feels the need to overcome his disappointment and make him see that he is better...except he never sees it himself. he truly believes that his talents are worthless and not as good as the rest of the members which usually bring down the mood of the group. which plays along with his perfectionist ways. he doesn't know when to stop, to be perfect in hopes to get praise he's secretly always wanted from his father. working and working, charlie won't stop even when he's out of breath and with no stamina. and that can be seen as stubborn and that's right. charlie can be as stubborn as a mule, almost bratty when it comes to his personal training and hobbies. stubborn in the way that even if someone would volunteer to help him, he would most likely ignore it or straight up refuse. charlie seems like a lot of things, he's also sensitive. always been sensitive, even as a child. he's good at keeping a face, a mask of indifference, but even jokeful words can pierce his heart. the littlest things can push him down a downward spiral of depression, making his emotions go wild.

BACKGROUND

charlie was born into an odd couple.

li tsai from taiwan and lee minhee from south korea met over in america during a speed dating event in their early adult years. did they have the same interests? no. were they attracted to each other? nope. they hated each others' guts from the get-go. so how did they get together again? fast forward a few years and they meet each other once again at a speed dating event in america. did they remember each other? yes. did they still hate each others' guts? yes...no...it was complicated.

even charlie doesn't know the full details of how his parents got together as each parent tells a different story. all he does know is that his father proposed to his mother in america and was easily waltzed away to taiwan. his father was a bigshot ceo who was very proud of his money while his mother was the perfect little housewife. they quickly got married and it wasn't a surprise when charlie's older brother was just around the corner. a few more years later and charlie was born.

it was noticeable from a young age that charlie loved to sing. he was always found singing. in the bathroom, going to sleep, literally everywhere. his father didn't like his son having such 'girly' habits. though his mother and brother secretly encouraged charlie's habit whenever his father wasn't around.

at the age of fourteen, charlie knew what he wanted to do. he wanted to sing. along with his singing, charlie realized another thing about himself. he wasn't like the rest of the males his age. sure, he liked girls like all the other guys. they were soft and pretty...but boys were cute too. he liked their roughness, their muscles, boys were just better in his opinion. both relavations were kept to himself except for his mother and brother. both of them were super supportive in charlie's dreams and relavations.

hough his normal life fell to pieces once his father found out he was trying to apply to fine arts colleges to pursue singing. it wasn't acceptable to his father. he didn't want his son to pursue anything 'girly' or to been as something possibly gay. the fight turned dark as charlie, emotions taking over him, let slip something that he made sure to keep hidden from his father for years.

"Too bad, dad! I'm already gay!"

the house was never the same after the fight. his mother didn't condone the things her husband said to their youngest son. charlie's mother and brother came up with a plan for charlie's wellbeing.

days after the fight, his mother and charlie were on the next flight to south korea while his brother stayed behind, to try and convince their father of his mistakes.

while in korea, charlie was accepted into korea national university of arts. life was beginning to be normal once more...until a yg scouter changed his life.

→　in school, math was charlie's favorite subject. he's really smart, enough to be able to calculate equations in his head within seconds or minutes.

→　fans like to point out that while charlie is chinese, he has 'korean features' that make him really pretty. a lot of fans tend to not realize or forget that charlie is, in fact, half-korean.

→　practically addicted to coffee at this point. want him to function? give him coffee, otherwise he will literally be a shuddering mess. warm coffee is what stops his body from shivering. it's like a heat regulator for his body.

→　charlie is naturally thin and he cannot, for the life of him, keep on weight. he loses faster than gaining.

→　he has problems remembering to eat due to the fact that he has a small stomach and cannot eat a lot of food in one sitting (usually eating smaller meals and snacks to keep him satisfied) which is why he tends to forget. and when he forgets to eat, he...loses weight easily.

→　he also has a problem with keeping up with his blood sugar due to his weight and so when he forgets to eat, it's very easy for him to faint from exhaustion, especially with all the dance practicing and such.

→　he may not seem like a cuddler at first sight because of how quiet and cold he seems, but he actually loves cuddles. he loves the subtle attention and there's also the fact the warmth usually follows cuddles. he loves that the most, really.

→　he doesn't seem like the type, but charlie loves taking selfies, but he's very hard to please and takes a multitude of pictures just to delete all of them.

he is certainly not a dancer. he didn't have any prior dancing background when joining yg. his main talent is singing, so why did he have to dance? the skill he's at now is due to blood, sweat, and tears so he could be at the same level as everyone else. it takes charlie longer to get choreo down because he's just not wired in that way.

 

TRAINEE YRS　winter 2017

TRAINING BG

he was late for a class when he approached him

his hair was flowing in the wind, nose and cheeks red from the cold when a man stopped him from reaching the campus.

"You...are so beautiful. Beautiful enough to be a model."

charlie was lost for a few seconds, chest heavily from him hurrying to class only to be caught off guard by this random man. soon enough, the red on his cheeks expanded to his ears in embarrassment as he took back his wrist and outright ran to his class.

but that wasn't the last he had seen of the man.

soon enough, he was caught once more by him, this time given his name. chen yijun, yg scouter. charlie was skeptical. why would a yg scouter want him, of all people? surely there were much more attractive people to bother, but yijun couldn't be bothered. every chance the man had, he would compliment the cold visual to the point charlie had to physically clamp his mouth shut before he self-combusted from the embarrassment.

it took the scouter two years, two years of building up trust and friendship before he broke down those walls charlie had built up around him. charlie finally agreed to audition.

to be honest, charlie didn't think he'd be chosen...but color him surprised when he got the confirmation saying he was. it was shocking, to say the least. what was he supposed to do now?

his mother told him to go for it, not to let the opportunity go to waste. so he did as she told him, he accepted yg's offer and officially became a yg trainee in the winter of 2017.

charlie had a lot to catch up on as he became an idol trainee. not only was he a trainee now, he was put into a trainee pool for a new possible boy group. he was instantly intimidated by the fact that...he couldn't dance. he was rushed into dancing 101 with dance trainers and trainees that were focused in dance. it was pretty hellish.

within the first few months of training, charlie ended up withdrawing from karts to fully focus on training. at this point, he didn't want to fail at his training and he needed all the focus into dancing.

charlie was...absolutely devastated when he was not on the roster for blackout. the trainees he had became acquainted with, was friends with...it pained it his heart to now be seperated from them. he knew it wasn't their fault, no. it was life, yg, but it still hurt.

he was numb for those days inbetween, watching his old friends begin to get ready for their debut, much too busy to hang out. charlie didn't like the void they left.

sure, he wasn't the only left behind. ten others, some he was really close too. heck, all of them were close once upon a time, but with yg's planning, it wasn't meant to be.

charlie threw himself into training. he didn't know what else to do. he knew not to give up, not now, not with how far he has gotten, but debut was ripped from his grasp. he became sadder, practicing his voice and dancing into the night.

but all his training was not for naught. and soon, he got his second chance with haven. and he wasn't going to let it fall out of his grasp.

KOREAN OR CHINESE?

pre-debut, answered　when haven's profiles are being released, fans are quick to notice how weird charlie's info is since there are three names listed: his english, chinese, and korean name. and with videos of him speaking both mandarin and korean are released and also the fact that he used to be enrolled into karts, fans are confused. a statement is then released that charlie is actually half-chinese from his father and half-korean from his mother.

TOO BAD HE'S CHINESE...

pre-debut, ongoing　it honestly starts with haven's profiles being introduced to the public. charlie's profile was last to be introduced, mainly because he didn't want to be the first. horrible netizens are quick to dismiss him because of his chinese heritage, even though he is half-korean (netizens seem to always forget that little tidbit about him).

many anti-fans down the road will use this excuse whenever he does something slightly wrong or if he doesn't hit the right note. even when he doesn't do anything bad. whenever he's praised by fans, an anti-fan is always around the corner with 'too bad he's chinese.'

VOICE BREAK!

during debut, false (but also ongoing)　due to his rather close friendship with blackpink's jisoo, it's not really a surprise that a dating scandal would surface between them. yg would be quick to deny such claims, but because this is yg after all, would never explain why.

it would simply be a picture taken of jisoo treaing charlie for a coffee, mothering the tall sad man like she always does. it would be a simple moment taken out of context. but it would definitely be something that will continue popping up through out haven's career.

NAME

during promotions　of course, what is one thing that most vocalists go through? one particular live performance, charlie's voice breaks during a high note. haven carries on like normal, but charlie looks visibly shaken.

after the performance, that's when the comments pour in. harsh, scathing comments about how bad of singer he must be to let his voice break like that.

DIETING GONE WRONG?

during promotions, false (also ongoing)　due to charlie's own weight issues, fans are quick to notice how charlie is easily winded and exhausted during promotions. whenever haven is having heavy promotions, it's not a secret that charlie quite literally ends up having blackouts from pure exhaustion.

charlie's thinness doesn't escape fan's eyes as the male tends to go from a barely normal weight to a 'that is too many notches for a belt". fans think yg is forcing a bad diet on charlie.

yijun first met charlie when he was scouting out individual talent for yg.

with a hot latte in hand, he was simply just swiping his eyes over many students going to and from classes until something caught his eye.

the most beautiful thing caught his eye and his name (he soon found out) was charlie.

LOVE STORY

it took charlie a long time to reciprocate yijun's affections.

after yijun somehow managed to break through charlie's walls (by continuously finding him between classes, adamant on scouting him personally), charlie found himself getting used to yijun's little quirks and faults.

somewhere down the line though, fondness turned to actual affection.

charlie began to yearn for yijun's closeness, soft cuddles during cold nights and good morning texts to start the day. he was finding his heart beating whenever yijun was mentioned. though due to his trauma with his father, he was afraid. afraid of what he would think, how disgusting he is...

everyone knows he's practically in love with yijun, even yijun himself. though yijun is slow with charlie. he may not know about charlie's father drama, but he knows that he's had some type of drama about his uality and goes at his pace, ready for whenever he's ready to take their relationship a step further.
