BACKGROUND

alright, this part is important but please don't over think it! talk a little about her life before becoming a trainee. you can talk about being a trainee here too, but there's another spot for that too.

IDOL LIFE

here, tell me a bit about her life as an idol. did she enjoy it? what was her lifestyle like (remember: this is a 2nd generation group so its not going to be extravagant). did she interact with fans? how much? how did she spend her time off?

LIFE POST-ACCIDENT

after the accident, sohyun had a long journey of recovery ahead of her. like most of the others, she suffered from ptsd and other trauma-related illnessnes.

immediately after, she developed an eating disorder that continued to upend her life and is something she is still struggling with.

she moved out of the dorm alloted for heaven and found a cramped, run-down apartment to live in on her own. completely isolated, her illnesses and e.d. took complete control of her to the point that a friend had called for a wellness check when sohyun hadn't left the apartment in a few days. the wellness check had sohyun being moved into a hospital until her weight and eating was under control.

it took her about two years to get control of her life again and another three or so to be able to work in the industry again.

CURRENT LIFESTYLE

sohyun currently lives in seoul with her boyfriend. she jokes that she is the 'live-in girlfriend' as she moved in to his place and brought nearly nothing with her but her clothes.

she works as a tv personality during the day and a radio personality at night. her day job is on and off, depending on the offers but her radio show is nightly.

she is also an activist, speaking out for mental health awareness and suicide prevention and as spoken at conferences, political events, universities, and public schools. in her spare time, she writes lyrics for maximum artists.

　— sohyun hosts a late night radio show called 'starry night', a name inspired by her favorite painting by van gogh and the song vincent. the show sort of functions as her personal blog, where she just kind of talks about whatever topic comes to her mind in a soft, breathy tone of voice (it is a latenight show, after all. its meant to be peaceful and serene). most songs she plays on the show are love songs that span decades. some nights have themes, like thursdays are for throwback hits and on those nights, she always plays song for a lady and always my love, two of her favorite songs by h.o.t. most nights she will have a guest host. to date, woohyuk has not been a guest, but his old members an chilhyun (kangta) and moon heejun have.

　— since the accident, sohyun has found a lot of solace in writing lyrics. after half a dozen hundred songs, she began writing in a formal capacity for maximum. so far, she has about ten songs published and sang by junior artists.

　— as sohyun began to heal, she began to miss her former life. interested in regaining some of that normalcy, she began to make appearances on various television programs. most notable have been immortal song, masked singer, running man, produce 101, and os on.

"yes, thank you for having me.

i have been well, thank you for asking. and yourself?"

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING IN HEAVEN?

"oh, this is a tough question, right out of the gate!

i suppose, looking back on that time, be best thing about being in heaven was the friends. that is to say, we didn't all always get along; we were like sisters in that we fought, sure, but... — i saw a funny meme online that said something like, 'my relationship with my sisters is either don't even breathe in my general direction or i'll help you hide a body and there's no inbetween'. sometimes we were more like that. /laughs"

Q: SINCE HEAVEN, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO?

"ah, well, i've tried to keep busy. as the leader at one time, there was never any downtime, even when we weren't filming anything so.... i'm just not used to free time. i host a radio show now! check it out, its on every night around 20-24 on 99.9."

Q: HAVE YOU KEPT IN TOUCH WITH THE OTHER MEMBERS?

"hmm. yes, sometimes. nostalgia really drives me to reach out, to try and regain some of those good times but i understand that not all of us feel that way. speaking to me again can bring up a lot of troubling emotions and.... we've changed now. we're not the same people we were back then.

Q: IF YOU COULD PICK A SOUNDTRACK FOR YOUR LIFE, WHAT SONGS WOULD BE ON IT?

"finally, a lighthearted question! /laughs

um, well...i have always been a huge fan of h.o.t, you know? so, when they officially disbanded in 2000, i was so heartbroken. completely devistated /laughs ! when jtl released the song a better day i was really moved by it. after the accident, while i was in the hospital, i rediscovered the song. you know what its about, right?

Q: OF COURSE WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. ASIDE FROM THE DISBANDMENT, HOW HAS IT AFFECT YOU? HOW HAVE YOU COPED?

"well... my body is healed now but i still don't move the way i used to. watching old videos of us, i used to be so bendy and flexible. now, my range of motion is a fraction of that. i get migraines sometimes and i still suffer with ptsd, depression...a wide range of demons.

in the accident, i was one of the girls that was ejected from the van. so many things were broken.... luckily i was unconscious for most of the ordeal. these days, i don't drive and avoid taking taxis even. i prefer the metro or biking or even just walking to my destination.

the incident knocked me back down to earth. as the leader of heaven, i was constantly on could nine and that was shattered instantly. i had so many hopes and goals for us, some the other members didnt even know i had. i wanted us to make it big, like big big. i wanted to us to be able to hold a sold out solo concert at madison square garden in new york. i wanted us to hold a real worldwide concert series where our shows were sold out every night. i had these kinds of dreams. but... i

i guess they just weren't for us. they weren't meant to be."

Q: IF A FAN WAS IN A SIMILAR SITUATION -- OR JUST GOING THROUGH A HARD TIME IN THEIR LIVES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THEM?

"of course i would want to say, first and foremost: you're not alone. this is something i struggled with so i know it firsthand: there is always someone around you, rooting for you to heal and succeed. if you think i'm lying, call x - xxx - xxxx (a/n: her radio show's call in number) and i'll tell you that myself. if you think there's no one, i am rooting for you. no matter what.

and it doesnt even have to be something like a car accident. trauma is trama. and mental health is important. be sure you are taking care of yourself and focusing on your needs in these difficult times."
