PERSONALITY:

for a tiny girl meiling can be really intimidating, until she smiles. she's a sweetheart but the war has made her bitter and standoffish. she looks like she's in a bad mood a lot of the time and she probably is. the meiling now prefers to be quiet instead of talking and watches people from a far listening onto their conversations taking it all in. she bites her tongue though a lot because she has no other choice but in her head she's ripping them to pieces. she holds a lot of anger in. it won't be until she's away from everyone will she cry and let all her emotions out.

the meiling before the war was really sweet. she's a strong person that can stand her ground and protect herself. she likes socializing and talking about everything and anything with her friends. she acts cold but she's really caring. she might act annoyed at you but if you act cute to her she'll melt. she can be stubborn though, when she wants something she goes after it no matter what others say. but the war did a 360 on her though so she isn't who she used to be and she doesn't know if she can ever get the old her back at this point.

BACKGROUND:

In 77AG, a beautiful baby girl was born in a small village in the western earth kingdom to a poor but loving family. Her mom sold her own handmade accessories while her father was a farmer. They didn't make much money because there weren't many visitors who were looking to buy accessories and their village was dry making it hard to grow anything. But even though it was hard to get by, her parents never gave up. Both of her parents worked hard to take care of her, instead of taking off work they took turns to hold Meiling in a carrier on their backs while they worked. Meiling's life in her village was normal, she had a happy childhood and honestly no complaints. She went to school like all the other kids and helped her parents out whenever she wasn't doing homework. By the time she was a teenager she took turns with her mom at the shop just to give her mom a break from working so hard and she helped make accessories too.

Out of her parents, her father was a bender and he taught her about earthbending from a young age. They lived in the mountainous area surrounding the village and behind their house lied a vast forest. Thats where she practiced earthbending with her father who was quite skilled in it and taught her a lot. At ten years old she beat up a kid in her school with the help of her strong earthbending skills, a year later he ended up being her best friend and four years later she became his girlfriend. His name was Haorong and he was the cutest idiot she's ever known, she couldn't ask for a better life but it changed when she turned 18.   

In 94AG the fire nation took over her village. Both of her parents were in the shop when it happened. Her father was one of the people who stood up for the town and tried to stop them from taking over but him and the others weren't successful. The fire nation burned down many shops and killed innocent bystanders during the fight, one of them being Meiling's mother. Her father and the rest of the defenders of the village were sent to a fire nation prison off the west coast of the earth kingdom.

Meiling and Haorong had a treehouse deep in the woods that they used as a hideout when they were younger. They went the night before the invasion to reminisce about the good old times and ended up falling asleep there. It was further into the mountain and further away from the village but the rumbles woke them up and by the time they ran back to the village after seeing the smoke from the distance the fight was over and their village was full of fire nation. Many villagers died that day and she was convinced that her father was one of them, the villagers were so shocked by the event that it was hard to pinpoint details like who each and every fighters were and the numerous dead bodies didn't help to convince her that her father wasn't dead somewhere.

Right after the fire nation took over Meiling's village, now known as the mining village, its been hard without her parents. She tried to revive the shop but it was hard to keep up with the heavy taxes the fire nation makes them pay. She still lives in the same house she grew up in but Haorang moved in with her. He was forced, among many others, to mine coal for the fire nation to support the war. Earth kingdom troops tried to push them out but were only successful getting them out of the town. They still run the mine and the town is run by corrupt earth kingdom soldiers. 

It's now been four years since the earth kingdom soldiers took over and Meiling has been working at a local restaurant. It's a popular spot for the soldiers since it's full of pretty young girls wearing y clothes. It wasn't always like that but Meiling's boss changed the uniform so they could attract more business (of course it was recommended by one of them).

On the daily Meiling had to deal with gross comments from soldiers trying to sneak their hand up her dress while she serves the food. One soldier in particular was obsessed with her and constantly made her feel uncomfortable, even outside of work. Meiling complained to Haorong about it but begged him not to do anything stupid since earth bending isn't allowed among villagers. One day while Haorong was having lunch at the restaurant, that soldier came in and slapped Meiling's , enough for Haorong to reach his tipping point. He earthbended at the soldiers and after a fight that caused a little damage to the interior of the restaurant took place, Haorong was arrested and sent to the prison rig. Despite the damage she didn't lose her job due to a soldier having eyes on her and leaving amazing tips. 

It's been three months since that incident, the same soldier has been as annoying and entitled as ever. Meiling is honestly scared for her safety, so much so that she takes a different route when going home everyday. She misses Haorong terribly and he misses her too, but one thing he doesn't know is that she's pregnant with his baby. Thankfully, for the sake of her job, she isn't showing yet.

☯ she nibbles on her bottom lip when she's frustrated or stressed. sometimes she does it so much that her lip will start bleeding
☯ she writes her feelings in a journal since holding it in all day is difficult
☯ she's considered earth bending just to go to jail too, at least there she'd be with her boyfriend instead of out in the "free" world and lonely. but thats no longer an option  
☯ she's more angry at the earth kingdom soldiers than the fire nation because at least they had some class
☯ she doesn't understand how the earth kingdom troops let no earthbending remain a rule. she knows its just so they can take advantage of the villagers and be at peace with the fire nation but she never thought her own people were capable of something so cruel.

RELATIONSHIPS:

tao is a hardworking man, he doesn't give up easily and doesn't like being disrespected either. he cares for others of his village a lot and sees anyone from the earth kingdom as family and anyone from the fire nation as the enemy. he's like a leader to the other prisoners.

haoron is a pure person, even in jail he still had hope that someday he would be with meiling again no matter how many times tao told him to give up. he loves meiling deeply and never went a moment without showing it. he would do anything for her, he usually doesn't have a temper but he couldn't stand to see his girl get disrespected. usually its hard for him to get mad. meiling has the tendency to wear the pants in the relationship. he's a strong earthbender but not as strong as meiling.

captain zeng is full of himself and thinks he can get any girl he wants. he's been seen with amny other girls around the village but meiling is the only one resisting him which makes her even more intriguing. he's just a cold fire nation captain that'll raise all hell if he doesn't get his way and take advantage of those less than him.

meiling's boss is all about the money. she knows what shes doing is wrong but doesnt care and doesn't show remorse either. as long as it'll bring her more money than she'll do it. even if her workers are put at risk. there's a rumor that she's in a relationship with one of the soldiers thats why but its just a rumor.

LAST COMMENT: haru's episode is my favorite so i wanted to make something similar to that. sorry the personality is so short I wasn't sure what else to say. I was going to work on her tomorrow but I'm busy this weekend so I rushed the last parts, sorry if its bad but I hope it describes her enough! you can add onto her personality if you want too as well and make any changes.
