The Tortoise and the Hare

Remember the classic story, The Tortoise and the Hare? If you haven't read it, it's basically about the two creatures aforementioned. From what I know (and please kindly correct me if I'm wrong), this was written by Dr. Jose Rizal, the unofficial Philippine national hero.

The hare was the fastest runner out of all the animals, and he took pride in it, while the tortoise was the slowest, always teased about his slowness. Because he was teased (or for some other reason I can't recall), the tortoise decided to challenge the hare to a race. Arrogantly, the hare counters him, saying he would eventually win so why should he feel the need to challenge him? Despite this, he eventually agrees. For weeks, the tortoise had been preparing for the race, while the hare hadn't, confident he'd win because he was the fastest runner there. On the day of the race, the tortoise felt ready and the hare felt ready to beat him and tell him he was right. When the signal was given, the hare ran as fast as he could and the tortoise did his best, although he was a bit too slow. Everyone was cheering for him, despite this, because the hare was way too arrogant. The hare was already halfway through with the race, or something like that, while the tortoise was still at the starting line. The hare felt tired after all that running and, still feeling confident, he rested underneath a tree where he fell asleep. Sometime later, the tortoise went past by that tree, hearing the hare snore, and continued to walk in his own pace. When the hare woke up, he saw that the tortoise was about to cross the finish line so, realizing he might lose, he ran as fast as he could. He didn't win. This experience humbled him, I think. The details are a bit blurry but I still remember the plot because I kept reading this several times when I was younger.

Don't be arrogant. That's the main theme. Because he was too comfortable in his own skin, believing that no one could beat him, the hare lost the race. We should always be humble and accept that sometimes, there are people out there better than us, albeit a bit slower.

In writing, we can relate to this, right? We always rush in updating our stories that we don't give the best quality to our readers. Writing is an art that should never be rushed. You should always write in your own comfortable pace, not others'. Always carefully plan how you would execute your plot then write, write, write! Or if you want, take some time to experiment with ideas until you have everything figured out. If you do this, I'm sure you'll not only be satisfied with the output but also your readers will too!

So, that was my interpretation. What's yours?

Update: The title of the story was actually, “The Tortoise and the Hare.” I mixed it up with another story. Sorry. Also, the story can be seen in Aesop's fables. It wasn't written by Jose Rizal, but he did write something entitled, “Si Pagong at si Matsing (The Turtle/Tortoise and the Monkey).” I'm really sorry for the mix-up. ( ;´Д`)

Woah, never seen that fable in relation to updating. Nice one- and thanks for making me see it like this!
Is it really a philipino who came up with this story?
The local version is slightly different, where it's a terrapin vs a hare, and they decide to go in their own zones- Hare on land and terrapin on water. The hare was ignorant, didn't know terrapins were skilled swimmers, and thought he could easily beat the bugger because he himself was a bad swimmer, so guessed that since he's the best (as he big-headedly thought) the others would be worse swimmers than him.
The race started on the edge of a river bank and (details are fuzzy) but the terrapin won.
I know the other versions of the story too, of course ^_^ Just thought I'd tell you this one.

in the viewpoint of writing, I see it as just because you have a certain amount of subscribers or up votes doesn't make you a better writer, rather, stay humble because your book isn't published like thousands of others...idk lol
