Cross-posting Stories: Yay or Nay?

I've always wondered what people's opinions were on cross-posting stories and fanfics. I know I'm guilty of this; there are stories on tumblr I have posted here, and stories on here I've posted elsewhere, too. Some authors don't mind; it's a way to widen their audience and gain more feedback from people across the internet. But others look down upon it, for their own reasons. What are your thoughts on this act? Do you cross-post your own works? Do you not like it? Why/why not? Genuinely curious, since it's an idea that's been revolving around my head to continue cross-posting what I have on AO3 over here and vice versa.

cross-posting is a problem?
Whew, I posted my stories EVERYWHERE and I never think that anyone would give a f***
I have it in my personal blog, tumblr, I even post a story on my school magazine. XD
So, cross-posting? HUGE YAY.

Eh? This is an issue? As long as you use the the same username or indicate somewhere in your story or profile that the story is also posted in this and that website, there shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't want to report an author of plagiarizing her own fic. Haha. I posted some of the contest entries from the anime forum here (then deleted it and moved it to FFO) and then I shared my poem collection here, there. HAHA. I shared my Hope poem in the forum because I wrote it for the Japanese who survived the tsunami and I thought that it might "reach them" in an anime site. And for the contest entries, I just want my stories to be in one place. HAHA. But then I moved them to FFO, only for me to deactivate a few days later XDDDDDDDD

I don't know why someone would be mad about cross-posting to begin with, especially since it does widen one's audience or introduce people to new fandoms. (A lot of the fics I end up reading are usually favorites/bookmarks of authors I like and even if I wasn't in the fandom, I still enjoyed them anyway and would check out other fics in that fandom or even see what that fandom was about.) Plus, it's extra copies for you as an author if something happens to your computer or the site you like to work on, because then you have backups. Then there is the whole thing where people have their own 'friends/clique' on one site, writing for them, but they're not opposed to letting others read their own stuff either, so they post on a more popular platform to get feedback from people that aren't their friends.

I'm slowly beginning to cross-post some of my fics since I recently got an AO3 account and I've been cross-posting drabbles between my tumblr to AFF or vice-versa for a while now. I don't see anything wrong with it to be honest and I don't know why people would have a problem with it either, especially since people that use other outlets like LJ and tumblr, usually end up using AO3 anyway.
