Otherwise, she looks very similar to Kwon Su Jeong and just like her, tends to keep her hair down although she looks quite cute with a ponytail or messy bun.

To describe her style in one word, 'cute' would be what is used; she tends to wear cute dress, preferably with sweetheart necklines (1 + 2). She also wears skirts (usually tiered or assymetrical) with trendy yet comfortable off-shoulder shirts; she tends to wear these shirts with pairs of jeans and  jeggings as well (3, 4 + 5). She also wears other similarly 'trendy but comfy' shirts such as 6, 7 + 8. Materials that she tends to wear are cotton and chiffon. Most people find Hyemi adorable due to her sweet personality as well as her cute, alluring appearance. Most people are attracted to her since she is always polite and sweet, rarely rude as she respects everybody, no matter who they are and what kind of person they are, she tries not to find their flaws, focusing on the good things about them. She is friendly to everyone she meets and when she befriends someone, she will love them (as a sister/ brother) with her whole heart as she always puts her 'everything' into whatever she does. She is also a very fun and bubbly character, always keeping smiles on her unni's faces.

However, her bubbly personality takes a turn for the worse at times, turning from fun to simply hyper, giving some of her unnis headaches. She has a short temper as well, when teased, especially about her height, she gets furious and throws a tantrum, ignoring whoever upset her for a bit. She's forgetful as well, sometimes forgetting to make her siblings their lunches; she even forgets where she puts the shopping list that she wrote to help her remember exactly what she needs. She's also unable to concentrate on almost anything but when she sets her mind to it, she can do almost anything. Despite being unable to concentrate in school, she somehow managed to study hard at home and achieve excellent results, which shocked many people including her friends. Now, going to Seoul National University, she is working hard to achieve a Double Major in music and mathematics.  She is very hardworking and although she is actually quite clumsy, she is always careful of what she's doing (especially when at her parttime job at Sweetheart Cafe). She's also quite fidgety and is unable to stay still, adding to how clumsy she actually is.

Due to both her father's work and her mother's reluctance to leave Japan, Hyemi was born in Tokyo on April 14th 1993. Ever since a very young age, Hyemi was always fascinated with drawing and began doodling from a very young age. When she was two, her little brothers (Youngmin who was born 11 minutes before Kwangmin) were born and when she was three, she was nicknamed Mimi when Kwangmin couldn't pronounce her name since he was barely one at the time. While Hyemi, aged five, was more interested in drawing and photography, her brothers (even at the age of three) were more obsessed with songs and the music industry, teaching their older sister different songs. When she was six, her parents took her on holiday to Korea, where she met Kim Myungsoo and befriended him. Just before the end of her holiday, the two exchanged contact details (parents' phone numbers + emails) and promised each other that they would always stay in touch.

Six years passed since then with a normal routine that Hyemi was getting used to. However, at the age of twelve, Hyemi was informed by her father that her mother had died in a car accident. Unable to stay in Japan, her father decided to leave and go back to Gwacheon, Korea, taking his children with him. There, Hyemi met her childhood friend, Myungsoo, because they were living as neighbours and was delighted to find that he hadn't changed at all. Her father, Hong Ki, met his childhood friend, Yoona, and they got married. By this time, Hyemi was thirteen and was attending a local middle school with Myungsoo. A year later, baby Hyori was born and this somewhat lightened up the family's atmosphere as even Kwangmin, who had become even quieter after their mother's death, was smiling again. She helped Yoona with most of the housework, becoming a strong individual - especially as a woman.

When she was sixteen, Hyemi enrolled into Gwacheon Foreign Language High School, whilst Myungsoo went to a Performing Arts School in Seoul, just north of Gwancheon. On the way home, Hyemi noticed Minjoo, Eunae and a few other girls walking home in the same direction and when they reached the area they all lived in, she went over to talk to them, befriending them; she was charmed by everyone, especially Minjoo because of her happy personality and slowly became part of the friendhip group. When all the seniors, in the group began to graduate, she noticed how the group slowly separated and was quite upset since she wanted to keep everyone as friends. When the next group of her friends left, Hyemi gave up and began complaining to Myungsoo who simply said: 'Friends come and go...but I'll always be here for you...' She also called Minjoo (the first semester after Minjoo and the other seniors had graduated), complaining to get a joke from Minjoo about it being because she wasn't there with them.

Minjoo frequently took Hyemi to Sweetheart Cafe and Hyemi took up a parttime job there when she was eighteen (and after Minjoo graduated) and took up a night-job at Illumi's, a famous restaurant, in the same year. When she was nineteen, Myungsoo took her out and she asked him to pay for the two tattoos she wanted and he agreed, getting two himself: a black butterfly on the inside of his left wrist and 'Protect Your Honour' tattooed on the inside of his right wrist as the counterpart of Hyemi's 'Embrace Your Dreams' tattoo (Crisis Core - Final Fantasy, Zack Fair: Embrace your dreams and whatever happens, protect your honour as Soldier). When she told Minjoo, her unni pretended to tell her off before askingHyemi to send her pictures of the tattoos.

After she graduated from GFLHS, she enrolled at Seoul National University and began studying for her Double Major in English and Art, aiming to become an English teacher. For the two or three years since she'd graduated, Hyemi has been studying for her Double Major as well as helping Yoona to keep her family together and looking after her two brothers. At the age of twenty, she moved into a house in Seoul with Myungsoo, his friend (from his classes in SNU) Jinyoung and her friend (from both her high school AND her classes at SNU) Sooyoung. Although she no longer lives with her family, she and Myungsoo go to Gwacheon every weekend to see their parents and families. When she found out that Minjoo had commited suicide, she was shocked to hear it and it somewhat broke her heart since Minjoo was a very important friend and unni to her.
 

PRESENT »

She is currently living in a house with Myungsoo (her best friend and love interest), Jinyoung (Myungsoo's close friend from SNU) and Sooyoung (her own close friend from high school + SNU). All four of them pay the bills, splitting the fee between themselves so all of them work. They don't struggle paying the bills since Sooyoung is taking mathematics as part of her Double Major and she calculated the way to get the cheapest bills (e.g. using unlimited packages). She also cooks for her brothers (Kwangmin and Youngmin) who live in a flat together in the neighbourhood with some friends, making them lunchboxes to take to the university, since Jinyoung (in a red convertible) and Myungsoo (in a deep blue camaro) drive everyone there and back.

Her general day to day routine during the week is getting up early to make her housemates breakfast and everyone (including her brother's friends) lunchboxes, then they all go to SNU in Jinyoung's and Myungsoo's cars. Before going home, she has a three hour shift at Sweeheart Cafe everday except for on the weekend (she has a five hour shift on Saturday but no shift on Sunday). When she gets home, she'll make dinner before doing any work that she needs to do (e.g. homework) before calling her parents to see how they're doing as well as calling Minjoo (nearly every day but if not, every other day). Then she'll either call her brothers or go to see them to check on them before going for her one hour shift at Illumi's. When she gets home she does something fun with her friends/housemates; they'll either go out somewhere. On Friday nights, they go out to Illumi's and eat there since she doesn't have a shift there on Fridays. On Saturday, she goes to Sweetheart Cafe for five hours and then spends two hourse at Illumi's before going home and making dinner for everyone including the twins and their friends. On Sunday, she goes to Gwacheon with Myungsoo and spend a day with their families before going back to Seoul at night. Before she goes to sleep, she thinks about her old friendship with Minjoo and their other friends, .

SUMMARY »

Myungsoo is Hyemi's best friend and he lives with her and their friends in a house their families bought for them. His roommate is Jung Jinyoung, his friend and classmate whilst Hyemi's is Choi Sooyoung. He, as said above, deals with a quarter of the house's bills (electicity, internet etc.) and thus, he works as a waiter at Illumi's on the same shift as Hyemi and since it's late, they go home together in his car. In high school, he went to a school for Performing Arts in the middle of Seoul while living in Gwacheon as Hyemi's neighbour. He currently goes to Seoul National University and is taking a Double Major in Japanese + music.

His daily routine starts of with having breakfast with his friends and then driving Hyemi and two or three others (usually, Kwangmin and Sooyoung and sometimes, Youngmin) to SNU in his car while Jinyoung take s the others (the twins' friend with/without Youngmin). After school, he goes home to work before picking Hyemi up from Sweetheart Cafe and taking her home, helping her prepare dinner. After dinner and calling his parents, he goes with Hyemi to see her brothers when she does and then they both go to Illumi's for their night shift together before coming home. At home, Myungsoo either goes out with the others or they all stay in and play games or watch movies and series' together.

Myungsoo, famous on campus as being the chic, handsome 'Ice Prince' is known for his icy cool persona, where he hides his true feelings behind a somewhat cold personality - this part of him is cool, sarcastic, cold and quite dismissive which Hyemi and his other friends love to call L. However, he actually has a split-personality changing from his rough, cold outer image to his inner sweet 'nice-guy'. Another part of his personality is the extreme cruel Myungsoo, since he has a short temper and when angry, he is furious and threatens the person who irks him at the time. He's also secretly jealous of Baekhyun and he only dated YuJin to get Hyemi's attention. However, Myungsoo seems to be unable to be that angry with Hyemi, no matter what names she calls him and tends to just be moody, muttering under his breath. He has a second extreme as well, becoming a hyper machine and being what Hyemi calls the crazy, funny, weird yet adorable 'Myungsoo' (since L is his other self); when around Hyemi he tends to be himself, which is a mix of the 'four extremes', simply being the guy he is although he gets embarrassed when Jinyoung repeatedly asks how much Myungsoo like Hyemi and trying to deny it even though his feelings are obvious in those moments. That's why he tends to avoid 'Truth' in 'Truth or Dare' games since Jinyoung might ask him then and there, putting him on the spot.

HOW THEY MET »

When she was six, her parents took her on holiday to Korea, where she met Kim Myungsoo and befriended him. They became extremely close to the point that they were almost inseparable. They played nearly every day that she was on holiday for since they met. Just before the end of her holiday, the two exchanged contact details (parents' phone numbers + emails) and promised each other that they would always stay in touch. Since Hyemi cried that day (which Myungsoo still teases her about), Myungsoo told her that he would 'grow up and become a handsome man just for you...so wait for me, okay?' (Hyemi still teases him about this)

When her mother died and she moved to Korea with her family, she found out (and was delighted) to find out that she was living next door to Myungsoo and that was the second time they met. Since then, they've always been together.

 

INTERACTIONS »

Myungsoo thinks of Hyemi as a sweet, innocent princess although she retorts that she is not; he treats her the best out of all his friends and handles her delicately most of the time, tending to look out for her. He also loves teasing her and embarrassing her (mainly by flirting with her - when she flirts back he makes it worse and worse to the point that she gets really embarrassed and quite mad at him). Although he sometimes snaps at her and is quite sarcastic, hurting her feelings, he feels very bad about it and is always guilt ridden. If the damage he does by his behaviour is very bad, Myungsoo will apologise, but if it is a fight that both of them take part in he will not apologise due to his ego (although he still feels bad and apologises after Hyemi does). Around Hyemi, Myungsoo tends to act normally, not hiding or keeping anything back; she is one of the few people who ever see his true self and he knows that he still likes him although he is not just the 'Ice Prince'. Around Hyemi, Myungsoo is relaxed and it is the time that he can be true to both her and himself. In fact, he gets jealous whenever he sees boys (other than Jinyoung) talking to her, especially her ex-boyfriend, Baekhyun. However, he does hide his real feelings - his love for her - since he is scared of rejection.

Hyemi, who has loved Myungsoo since they were children, thinks of him as her own personal prince, although she doesn't call him that to his face, since she knows what he can actually be like (hyper, silly etc.). She treats him like any best friend would - with a lot of love and understanding, although her love is the real thing. Around Myungsoo, Hyemi is rarely shy and she tends to tell really bad jokes and pulls pranks on him which he tends to either love or hate, grumbling about them. However, there are times when his bad mood gets the better of him and he snaps at her which sometimes breaks her heart. There are also times when they argue - sometimes over small things like chocolate and biscuits, and other times, worse things such as their previous relationships and whether or not it concerns each other. She always apologises first in these situations since one: she knows his ego couldn't take apologising first and two: she genuinely feels really bad about it. Whenever he apologises (even if it's after she does), she finds herself loving her awkward friend even more before realising that this love was actually 'true love'.

(Very important point taken from BACKGROUND): When Hyemi was nineteen, Myungsoo took her out for dinner and she asked him to pay for the two tattoos she wanted and he agreed, getting two himself: a black butterfly on the inside of his left wrist and 'Protect Your Honour' tattooed on the inside of his right wrist as the counterpart of Hyemi's 'Embrace Your Dreams' tattoo (Crisis Core - Final Fantasy, Zack Fair: Embrace your dreams and whatever happens, protect your honour as Soldier).

LOVE STORY »

In the beginning of the story, it is obvious that Hyemi has begun falling for her long time best friend but Myungsoo hides his feelings from her. Then Hyemi, while stressed out from reading the diaries and finding out about Minjoo's death (even a year after) began crying again and he calms her down yet again which makes her confess how much she loves him. When he stiffens she thinks that he doesn't love him back and apologises, locking herself in his room. Myungsoo knocks on the door a few times but she doesn't answer. When she wakes up, Myungsoo is there, awake and tired, sitting outside her door. He tells her: 'Hey...you confess and ran away before I could give you my own love confession...' When she sobs softly, he smiles and says: 'Hey, come here...' and pulls her into a hug, murmuring 'I love you'. Since then, they are together as boyfriend-girlfriend and when they go to Gwacheon, they get teased by their parents as well as by Eunae, Jinyoung, Sooyoung and the other girls.

As their relationship changes from best friends to lovers, they become a little shy towards each other, especially Myungsoo. This causes Hyemi to believe that he doesn't love her especially since Yujin kept threatening to take him away from her. However, Myungsoo firmly tells her that he loves her - 'the most, the best and the only' he says, including 'and one day I will prove to you just how much I love you'. Generally, they still act like best friends and in fact, the following quote suits them quite well: if you fight like a married couple, takl like best friends, flirt like best friends and protect each other like siblings, it's meant to be'. Throughout the story, Myungsoo is there for Hyemi, looking after her and protecting her. Near the end of the story, after another misunderstanding where Hyemi sees Myungsoo talking to Yujin (where he was asking Yujin not to bother him or Hyemi) Myungsoo proposes to her in front of her friends (from Gwacheon) as well as Sooyoung and Jinyoung. She accepts and they are engaged.

THE STORY »

Minjoo and Hyemi were extremely close - in fact, many people who saw them together (e.g. in cafes or restaurants) mistook them for sisters. Minjoo and Hyemi were close mainly due to their similar personalities and tended to be seen around each other. Hyemi looked up to Minjoo since Minjoo always laughed at her jokes even when she was hyper, being one of the few unnis who didn't get mad at her even when she was hyper. Minjoo was also an inspiration to Hyemi since she worked and studied hard, dedicating herself to what she was doing. She was very upset when Minjoo had to graduate High School and although she always kept contact with her unni, she disliked not being able to see Minjoo at school. Hyemi remembers a lot of what happened with Minjoo because they would always talk about these things over the fun. For example:

- Going to the amusement park (e.g. Thorpe Park) with their friends
- Going to cafes and restaurant together
- Being taught by Minjoo
- Studying with all of their friends (mainly elders teaching their juniors)...and a lot of other things they did together

Hyemi was still in contact with Minjoo and talked to her over the phone frequently, usually putting time for her unni after she called her parents and brothers (or before going to see her brothers); they spoke almost every day even after Minjoo graduated from High School. Hyemi reported back to her frequently about how everyone began to slowly split up into individual groups as well as smaller groups which Minjoo joked that it was because she wasn't there which was quite true. The main difference before the present and the past is the fact that they rarely meet up or go anywhere together although they are still very close. Furthemore, there are many things that they have to tell each other about since they no longer experience the same situations and events due to living in different places. The last call Hyemi made Minjoo before her death, the conversation went something similar to:

H: Minjoo Unni? I thought I saw Eunae Unni today!! Is she in Seoul?

M: I'm not sure? Why don't you call her?
H: ...I don't have her number...could you give it to me?
M: Of course...I'll send it to you when the call is fnished, okay?
H: Okay.
M: By the way. Mimi? How's everything?
H: What a strange question, unni! Well, everything's great! You know that I love Myungsoo, right? Well...I love him even more now!! He looks after me all the time and despite being a grumpy boy, he always acts like a prince around me! And...ah...sorry...I'm rambling now...
M: Nah...I'm glad I heard your voice tonight as well, Mimi...
H: Hmm? (confused) I...see...so why did you want to know how everything is, unni? We talked yesterday as well, right?
M: I...yeah...I know...it's just...

H: Unni? Are you okay?
M: Yeah...everything's...fine, Mimi...ah, well! I need to finish my Course Assignment now, okay? Call me tomorrow as well, okay? You know how I forget these things.

H: I'll call! Good night, unni!
M: Bye bye, Mimi...

Out of the others, Hyemi was the closest to Eunaesince she looked up to her unni very much and although Eunae was not as bubbly as Minjoo was, Eunae (after finding Hyemi slightly irritating at first) began to warm up to her junior, developing a soft spot for her. However, Hyemi was adored by most, if not all, the girls since she helped to liven up the group. She also loved to arrange meetings and outings for her friends since she enjoyed spending time with all of them. Generally, she was one of the friendliest there. On the other hand, her friends loved teasing her about her height, causing her to throw tantrums and ignore them. However, she tended to apologise afterwards for her behaviour, since she didn't want to be hated by her unnis. When everyone began to graduate and the group slowly disbanded, she was very upset since she has the idea of 'friends forever' due to her friendship/ relationship with Myungsoo. However, she never managed to get their contact details since she had neither an email or a phone at the time (she always borrowed Myungsoo's phone to call Minjoo though). She missed spending time with her unnis, but she allowed them to grow apart from her and each other (which she regrets now).

Hyemi only realised what Minjoo meant by the question and what she said in their last conversation when she called the next days to be told by Minjoo's parents that her unni was dead and had committed suicide. After the phone call, she ran straight to Myungsoo, despite the fact that they were in the middle of an argument and burst into tears which shocked him and made him think that the reason was because of their fight and she began to apologise before asking him to hug her. He apologised as well and pulled her onto his lap, holding her and asking her what was wrong. He listened to her and soothed her. She began believing that it was her fault for not realising that Minjoo meant 'bye, bye' as in forever, since Minjoo always said 'nighty night' to her. However, Myungsoo convinced her that it was not her fault and that they should go to see Minjoo's family together since he had always thanked Minjoo for looking after Hyemi.

Hyemi went to see Minjoo's family personally (with Myungsoo).  They told her that she was a good kid and were grateful that she had been such a good friend to their little girl saying that they were happy that Minjoo had such a sweet friend which made Hyemi cry so much that Myungsoo had to take her home. Hyemi has always been mourning since Minjoo's death although she has improved significantly, leading a normal life again although at night, she still cries from time to time. When she saw her other unnis at the funeral she ran up to them, crying and told them about the last phonecall and apologised repeatedly but they all told her it wasn't her fault and tried their best to calm her down. She stuck to Eunae that day since she had been the second closest out of the other unnis, telling her everything from the time that Eunae and Minjoo graduated to the present. Soon, Hyemi began calling  Eunae every day, trying to fix the broken friendship as well as trying to bring her other unnis together as well.
