PERSONALITY:

Quite curious in nature, the girl honestly likes to find out any and everything that goes on around her. Often times she believes it to be because she has a trouble with paying attention. Anything can honestly pique her interest. Even teachers, by this point, know not to do seating arrangements with the girl next to or in any close range with the outside window, or the classroom door window. Her eyes will immediately go towards whatever is outside of the classroom or outside the window. Everything seems to...interest her in ways other people would find weird. Simple things, complex things...anything, really. Birds flying through the air, people walking and talking, loud sounds, bright colors, large attractions, novels, plays, museums, movies, different cultures, various languages; you name it, she's curious by it - those were just a few examples of what can catch and hold her attention. A new location might cause her to want to travel towards it, whether by taking a train or bus, and the girl just goes for it. In fact, her curiousity seems to lead her on a string of adventures. When the curiousness washes over her, she is rarely ever able to control it. She wouldn't want to. She just goes and explores it to find out more about it. It's hard for this curious girl to even be able to pay much attention to the people or things around her. Something just always seem to catch her attention. As previously stated, her curious nature gets the best of her, and it could often times pose problems to those around her. Wherever the curiousness takes her, she's compelled to follow it every step of the way. Though many things catch her attention, she doesn't leave anything unfinished. Whatever new hobby she finds, whatever new television drama she comes across, whatever album she begins listening to, whatever video game she begins playing; the girl makes sure to finish it because she dislikes the thought of something not falling through. In fact, she has a bad habit of getting quite annoyed, angered, or upset if plans doesn't fall through, meetings doesn't happen, or things abruptly change. Well...quite often than not does she get annoyed with people or things around her, but she is working on it (I swear!) Quite absent-minded, the girl needs a little redirecting before her attention can be focused back on the task at hand. Funny how a girl who seems to forget everything doesn't forget any of the plans she made herself (which causes quite a lot of her friends to get upset with her, or her teachers, or her parents ). What she typically forgets is that she had homework to turn in (not to say that she doesn't do it, she just often times forget to bring it back to school the next morning, or whenever it is due) and when questioned on the matter, her words are simply, "...wait...we had homework?" Causing either the teacher to roll her eyes and tell her to 'find' the homework, or the class erupts into laughter and calls the girl a klutz, dunce, and forgetful (though she just shrugs her shoulders and waves them off immediately). One thing about her is that she often struggles to understand when people are mocking her, picking on her, or trying to be rude to her. She just smiles, waves, and keeps on going. Her mind is too occupied on either forgetting or remembering. (Confusing, huh?)

People tend to look over the fact that Soon Bok is quite possessive. Whatever she owns that is hers...well, good luck trying to get her to share or even exchange it with you. She doesn't want others touching it, and she definitely gets annoyed whenever someone looks at what is hers for too long (she might feel as though they are plotting to take it from her). She is overprotective of her belongings (whether her many, MANY stuffed animals, her friends--not to say they are her belongings, per say--her food, her clothes, shoes, accessories, books, ideas; anything). Her shoes, she keeps them clean and pristine so that she can continue wearing them through the years. Her school supplies; no, do not touch. Her Bubble Tea; dare not ask her for a sip! She will death glare you or widen her eyes as though she is shocked that one would even ask for such a thing (majority of the time, when asked for a sip of her drink, the girl will just absent-mindedly continue to sip as she blankly stares at whomever asked her such a foolish request). Whatever she owns, she takes care of, whatever she enjoys, she makes sure that she enjoys it herself. Though she is possessive of her OWN items, that isn't to say that she doesn't...share. She just doesn't share her OWN things. If her friends want a sip of her Bubble Tea, Soon Bok would much rather get up and buy them their own (making it a large) so that they can leave her own drink alone. Stingy, yes, but she does like to give people whatever just so that they don't have to ask her for some...or feel compelled to do so. Being so curious, her mind always jumping from one place to another, the girl is often neurotic. She worries about any and everything. She can't remember whether she left a faucet on, she can't remember whether she turned the stove off after she finished cooking; she always has to go check. A bathroom break could result in her having to go back JUST to tighten the sink handle (because what if she were to have left it on?!) She checks on her stuffed animals to make sure that they are all in the place she left them without them being touched by outside hands. And, dear Lord, don't let someone stop talking to her if they interact quite often. She will worry about all the possible WORST outcomes! Did she do something wrong, was she not sharing enough, was she acting in such a way that would make someone back away from her? It worries her so much so. With a mind that is constantly wandering around (whether remembering, observing, thinking, or forgetting), she can't help but wonder about all the wrong things. What she needs to be wondering is whether or not she has all the materials needed for her senior project.

BACKGROUND:

Soon Bok was born in Mexico to a Hispanic woman and a South Korean man. Many might wonder what brought about a romance between two very different people. At the time, Soon Bok's father was there on business, expanding his oil refinary business into Mexican territory where he was sure he'd make quite the profit. In doing so, he met with a man whom he was going to put in charge of the entire business there. During their meeting, the man brought along his youngest daughter, a very beautiful woman who was quite silent during their time there. Soon Bok's father honestly fell for her large, warm eyes, her lengthy brown hair, and her silent charm. Imagine his surprise when she opened and out came nearly fluent Korean. To say the man was smitten was an understatement. His time there was short, but in that time they had a whirlwind romance. Everything moved so quickly, yet he couldn't have asked for anything more. He wanted to marry the woman--especially when he revisited nearly six months later to check on the business and found out that she was heavily with child. Her stomach showing, her stresses and worries high; many people did not like the idea of a Hispanic woman carrying the child of a Korean man. Even her father was upset to know that his daughter had gotten tied up with his business partner. Immediately he made the decision that upon the birth of the child, Soon Bok's father was to take her and never step foot in Mexico again; to never even speak of such matters, and to forget about his daughter. With a heavy heart, Soon Bok's father took one last trip to Mexico when Soon Bok was only a few days old, took his beautiful daughter, and disappeared into South Korea to carry on with his successful businesses there. Never again did he step foot in Mexico, the oil refinary business there rumored to having being closed down, and memories of that woman being forgotten. He soon married to a Korean woman when Soon Bok was barely two years old, and raised her up to believe that that was actually her biological mother. Things were much simplier that way.

For many years, Soon Bok had been raised as an only child, yet when she reached the age of eight, she was excited to know that she was having a little brother. Oh what joys it is to no longer be an only child. Now people would have someone else to oogle over and someone else would be subject to cheek-pinching. She just wanted to explore the world, cuddle with her stuffed animals, drink Bubble Tea, and sit outside in the garden. The girl was raised with everything she could ever want and ask for, but she rarely ever wanted anything. She was happy with a stuffed anmal on occasion, and a Bubble Tea after her father came home from work. She was never really a difficult child when it came to wanting or needing something. Raised where her father was always working, she cherished the moments when he would set aside time to be with the family. With him always being out and about, travelling, and being absent, spending time indoors huddled on the couch with his family was enough for him. And that was all that he needed to do for all of them to be satisfied. A close knit family, even business and having money wasn't going to tear them apart. And, truthfully, Soon Bok wouldn't have it any other way.

FAMILY:

Father || Ban Dae-Hyun || 48 || Owner of the Oil Refinary Business  || Ambitious, Loyal, Dedicated, Caring, Passionate || Though eighteen years of age, Soon Bok greets her father at the door with her little brother and pet Chow. They are very close, so much so that she refuses to go to sleep unless her father is at home (since he overworks himself). She talks to him about everything...except boys...that would be a conversation her father refuses to hear.

"Mother" || Ban Hye-Su || 43 || Kindergarten Teacher || Loves Children, Easily Excitable, Neurotic, Playful || A kind woman who adores Soon Bok as though she were her own. Vowed alongside her husband that she'll never tell Soon Bok that she honestly isn't hers. Asks her about her day every time she comes home from school and has a Bubble Tea and Macroons imported on the table in the kitchen waiting for her when she steps in the door. That conversation about boys Soon Bok could NEVER have with her father she has with her "mother".

Little Brother || Ban Kwang-Sun || 10 || Elementary School Student || Clingy, Intrigued, Positive, Clever, Loves the Outdoors || Being eight years older than her younger brother, there are times where she gets annoyed with him, but she loves the boy to death. He is beautiful, he is smart, he is extremely humorous. She watches him whenever he gets out of school and loves cooking for him. Takes him along with her most days to wander around town.

LIKES (6+)

- Bubble Tea; to be exact, her favorite is Strawberry Bubble Tea in smoothie form (not milk tea form) with Strawberry popping boba. An addiction, she cannot live without it!

- Adventures; curious in nature, the girl likes to explore, thus enjoys adventures around town and such. Feels as though her dream of studying in China will be an adventure for her.

- Stuffed Animals; her collection is quite large.

- Twitter; so much is on her mind...she can't help but to release it somewhere.

- Naps; that energy has to be given back. Naps do that for  people, y'know.

- Lotion; she doesn't like dry skin, and carries lotion everywhere she goes.

- Nature; she was the one who asked her father if they could get a garden on their property. She expected something small, but he transformed half of the backyard into a secret garden consisting of a maze, bushels of flowers from various origins, colors, fountains, and amazing scents. She and her brother often play hide 'n' seek there (with Youngbae always being the one to seek them out)

- Hazelnut Candles; addicted to the smell. It is such a delicious smell if she were able to describe it. So much so that she has multiple candles in her room which she lights right before bed (since it helps ease her to sleep). Yes, her mother walks in and blows it out when she is sure Soon Bok is asleep.

- Oversized Sweaters; they are comfortable and every time she steps in the house from school, she changes into an oversized sweater (which nearly falls to her knees and which falls a little past her knuckles) and either black or white leggings and comfortable, fuzzy socks.

DISLIKES (6+)

- Aggression; doesn't like anyone being aggressive to her or others.

- Bitter Tastes; a sensitive tongue, a love for food, and a dislike for bitter tastes.

- Cruelty to Animals; Her Chow means a lot to her and she could never imagine being cruel to him. Why would anyone be cruel to a dog or any animal for that matter?

- Anyone touching her Stuffed Animals; do not touch them, do not face her wrath. Plain and simple.

- Romance Movies; it isn't like she hates them, she just wouldn't choose them. She is very emotional and anything sweet or sappy makes her cry, thus she tries to avoid any tears by picking a different movie genre.

- Tardiness; she finds it rude to be tardy without too much of a forewarning.

- Rudeness; why be rude? Be nice.

- Creepers; she cringes. She tries to avoid creepy individuals.

- Internet Bashing; people who get on the internet only to be rude...why? Just...why?

LOVE INTEREST: Dong Youngbae ( Big Bang )

BIRTHDATE + AGE: 05 18 1996 + 18 years old

PERSONALITY:

Youngbae knows the value of a dollar, and thus the boy likes to ensure that he keeps that valued dollar in his pocket. Frankly speaking, he is frugal and doesn’t like to spend too much money unless he is compelled to do so. He likes to save the money that he earns either in whole or in part because he knows that he has to worry about his future as well as the present. Being frugal, he never really spends his money on anything expensive whether it is clothing, footwear, jewelry, or electronics. The only expensive things he own is his cellular device (which was a gift from Soon Bok’s father), and his laptop (which he spent his own money on, though it pained him to hand over so much won in one place). A penny-pincher, he saves all of his money until the last moment. He doesn’t mind spending money on food (a growing man has to eat, right?), it’s just that other things; necessities—he doesn’t really feel a need to buy. Many would look at it as a good thing…or a bad thing. He doesn’t care, though. At the end of the day, if someone spends recklessly, they will lose the money they may need for more important things. He just refuses to be that type of person. Youngbae is also a hopeless romantic. The man enjoys a romance novel, romance drama, romance movies, hell; he even likes seeing couples walking around South Korea together. People say that individuals fall in love during the spring or summer time, but in his hopeless romantic mind, he favors a winter romance (because he loves the cold weather). Though quite the romantic, he doesn’t show it as much as he could because he’s had only one girlfriend, and that is long since in the past. He longs to be able to get all of the pent up romance out of his system, or else he will end up bursting from it and shouting his love confessions to the wrong person (but he definitely doesn’t want to do that). He can be sweet and romantic, anyone can, really; but his version of romance is doing things differently than everyone else. He believes he is a rare romantic and that not many people think of romance in the way that he thinks of romance.

It comes as no surprise that Youngbae is a loner (or was a loner) and shy. Coming from a small town to a huge city (especially in another country), it was a paradigm shift. He’d never seen that many people in all his life. With so many people around even on a simple walk down the street, he has somewhat turned shy and became a loner while in South Korea. He likes being alone and would prefer being in his bedroom on most days. Shy, he doesn’t really speak publicly or towards people he doesn’t know (unless it is small children—he shouldn’t be shy around children, right?) He has a shy smile, one where whenever he does; he looks down or looks away. He recently stopped covering his smile whenever he does so (thanks to Soon Bok getting on him about it), but there is still that part of him that wants to end up slipping his hand towards his mouth. But this shy loner can be nurturing whenever he wants to. He adores children and has a way of getting them to like him. He likes helping others and caring for them. He is gentle, kind, sweet, and has a soothing voice that can calm those that are quite worried about anything around them. He is that guy who prefers warm hugs for goodbyes and hellos. But he only does as such with those he is most comfortable around. Perceptive, the boy can learn nearly anything from anyone around him. He can pick up on mannerisms, knows when someone is lying to him, knows how to read people, can often guess their next thoughts and actions based upon their words, and knows someone’s likes and dislikes from a simple conversation. With him being one who doesn’t talk much (he prefers to listen sometimes), he couldn’t help but be as perceptive as he is. With being perceptive, he remembers faces from people who cross his path frequently. Though he might be perceptive in that manner, he does have a problem with remembering certain peoples’ names. Which is why if he holds a simple conversation with them, if he forgets their name, he just continues on with whatever is being talked about (with the hopes that they will not ask “do you remember my name?”).

HOW YOU MET:
Youngbae and Soon Bok met on Twitter in such an odd way when the both of them were in the ninth grade (a little over three years ago). There was a tending topic of "Things I won't share" in which Soon Bok wrote 'Things I won't share: My Bubble Tea. Stop asking me for mine! I'd much rather buy you your own. Leave mine alone.' As Youngbae scrolled through the topic (finding the things he read funny), he saw Soon Bok's tweet and quickly retweeted before responding to her tweet randomly saying, "Would you buy me one?" She didn't respond immediately, but when she did, her response made him smile. 'Of course I'd buy you one. Just as long as you never ask for mine after that. I'd buy you all the Bubble Tea you wanted!' From that point on, Youngbae and Soon Bok tweeted each other a few times a week. Though it might have been harmless tweeting at the time, Youngbae took it to heart because his family was due for Korea in the upcoming months and he was thankful to have met someone already there. Telling her of his nearing arrival into the country, he was thrilled when Soon Bok agreed to meeting him...at a Bubble Tea place, of course (yes, she bought the Bubble Tea for the two of them). From then on, the two have remained best friends. Funny how a simple tweet could bring two individuals together.

INTERACTIONS: When the two of them first met, it was slightly awkward with the both of them being nervous, but it didn't take long before they were able to talk as though they had been friends for years. In the first encounter at the Bubble Tea place, Soon Bok was the first one there, thus she was trying to think about anything OTHER than potentially being stood up (since she was thinking the worst). Youngbae wasn't answering her texts, so she gave up on doing so. After about thirty minutes passed, she was doubting that he was going to show up, until he walked into the place slightly winded. After apologizing and telling her that he was confused about the town and was jogging around trying to find it, asking people for directions which made him more confused, she accepted it and they were able to speak freely. In the time that they were there talking, Youngbae was able to access that she was quite curious about his upbringing, and all things about him, but he always turned the questions back on her, wanting to get to know his first initial friend in Korea better. He did more of the listening than the talking, but to him that was okay. In the first meeting, he learned a lot about her and knew that she was adventurous, curious, forgetful (since she kept asking "oh...where was I, again?"), funny, random, and enjoyed Bubble Tea (since she ordered nearly three more while they remained seated there).

As time went on, the two remained close. Something about that first meeting made Youngbae want to be around her more. She hadn't been speechless from the way he looked, or the way he just sat there, sipping and listening. No. He could just tell that she enjoyed his company as much as he enjoyed hers. With Youngbae never really being to Korea, only reading about it and hearing it, he was thankful that he made a friend in someone who was willing to take quite a lot of time out of her day after school in order to show him around the city. Often times she would get him to ride the train or bus with her and they'd go to regions hours away from their own exploring. They'd go to museums, different parks, water parks, plays, movies, bike-riding, swinging, boat rides - anywhere that Soon Bok wanted to show him, she took him and he didn't complain one bit. He liked her enthusiasm, he likes how curious she was, and he likes how no matter how much riding or walking (or running) they did, she never seemed to tire out. She also would become visibly upset over having to stop the adventure and go home, but Youngbae would always promise that they'd go again the next time to finish exploring.

Youngbae is usually the one who is able to grab ahold of Soon Bok's attention. He can get her to focus on her homework, to turn it in on time, to study, and to focus in classes (even if he isn't physically in the classroom himself). He just wants the best for her, and with her wanting to go to a college in China (which he isn't quite siding with), he knows that she needed to be able to focus somehow because it takes hard work. With the passing years, with passing adventures, with passing time spent together, Youngbae has become a HUGE part of Soon Bok's life (as is he a huge part of her own). It has gotten to the point that Youngbae is seen as family by her family (and vise versa). He comes over her house a lot, eats dinner there often, helps her watch her little brother, and even volunteers his weekends with Soon Bok's mother to go on field trips with the children she teaches. Everyone around Soon Bok adores Youngbae, and everyone around Youngbae adores Soon Bok (so why the heck don't they just date for crying out loud? Address that elephant in the room).

What was your reason for joining the pen pal program?:

"There is a lot that I am curious about out there. I always tend to find myself wanting to figure things out, there just seems to be adventure around every corner. So, when I happened to stumble across the program being advertized during my idleness around the school, I quickly ran to be the first one to sign up for it. I was curious as to who I could meet. I mean, I seem to meet friends in the oddest of ways -- just as Youngbae considering the two of us met through Twitter. So, why not make a new friend here in Korea through the postal services. I just hope I don't meet a creep...but hey! I am excited to see who could be on the other end of the letter."

Plotline Three: Why is he avoiding your questions?:

The individual on the other end is avoiding many of the questions because, although he signed up for the program (well, to be honest his friends as a joke decided they wanted him to interact with someone OTHER than Soon Bok so much so they signed him up), he doesn't want to give the other person too much insight into his life. Through a letter you can't really see an image of the person, or anything they previously wrote (like one can go back and see on Twitter), and it is just a little...nerve-wrecking. So whenever the curious individual asks too many questions, he either leaves them unanswered and turns the question back to the one writing the letter, or he avoids it all-together. He isn't doing it to be mean..but it takes some time for him to open up. He's too shy.

COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS: Ah. This seems so exciting so good luck with the story. One suggestion I have is for the pen pal program to ONLY be done through the school. Meaning that the letters aren't mailed out to have personal information and identities anonymous (at least for the high school since it is school-aged children and the Principal doesn't want anything bad to come of this program as far as stalkers and such goes. At least that way it can be difficult for people to know addresses (mainly so that my plan for Youngbae and Soon Bok to not know that they are writing to one another go on for some time). Sorry if that seems confusing or something....
Good luck in choosing; I know it may be difficult.

QUESTIONS: --

SCENE REQUESTS:

- A scene where Youngbae and Soon Bok are watching her younger brother (at night while her parents went on a date) and they are both cuddled on the couch together, a blanket over the both of them while they were watching a movie (with Youngbae sitting against the couch, his back on the arm of the couch and Soon Bok between his legs and laying with her back against his chest as Youngbae held her to him, his chin resting lightly on her head). Her little brother sitting on the floor before them, intrigued by the movie and during a commerical break turns and see them so close and on this particular night (they sit like that all the time when watching television together so her brother has seen it quite often) comments that they look like a couple. ( How they react to it can be entirely up to you ).

- A scene where they are walking together and Soon Bok sees a large fountain and grabs Youngbae's hand to lead him towards it as she takes off her shoes and goes into the fountain. Encouraging Youngbae to join her (which he does), she splashes him...and there begins a splash fight causing many passerby's to stare at them oddly (which they both ignore).

- A scene where Youngbae purposely asks Soon Bok for a sip of her Bubble Tea and (surprisingly) she shares with him to the shock of her mother, father, and little brother (as well as Youngbae, of course).

- A scene where Youngbae watches Soon Bok sleep and trails his finger across her face, commenting that she is the prettiest girl he'd ever laid his eyes on.

- A scene where Soon Bok asks her father to tell her the truth about her real mother.

- A scene where Soon Bok actually mails off the Chinese college application to the university of her choosing there with her fingers crossed and whispering "now I wait" to herself as she stares at the mailbox for quite some time after she slides the application in.

- A scene where her little brother jumps up and down on Soon Bok's bed when she is watching him (not knowing he was in her room) and when she finds him jumping (and her stuffed animals on the ground), she vows she is going to kill him and proceeds chasing him around the house in which he runs to the front door at the exact moment their father walks in the house. (Her father's reaction is entirely up to you, though we all know Soon Bok would be PISSED!)

- A scene where Youngbae brings her a Rilakkuma stuffed teddy bear that is as big and tall as she is and she jumps into his arms and (accidentally) pecks him on the lips - thus ends her having yet to give up her first kiss and an awkward air falls between them.

- A scene where Soon Bok's "mother" talks to her about Youngbae (how Soon Bok responds could be entirely up to you).

- A scene where Youngbae finds a mysterious letter on Soon Bok's dresser, already opened and reads it, being shocked when he realizes that they are the ones writing the letters to each other. Could use this to ask her the question as to whether there is anyone that she likes whenever he sends her another letter...and to his surprise she responds "There is...but I don't know whether or not he likes me back. Besides, we're best friends and I don't want to ruin our friendship because of me not knowing anything about relationships; I'd be the one ruining everything. Is there anyone you like, or will you avoid the question?" In which he will respond, "I'd rather not say through a letter, but rather in person." Which would confuse her.

- A scene where Youngbae confesses his feelings to Soon Bok out of nowhere (the place is entirely up to you).

- A scene where Youngbae finally tells her that he thinks they are writing to each other and instead of getting upset, she lets him know that she had a feeling - which he proceeds to tell her that he's keeping all of the letters and would want to start the letters over when she goes off to college.

- More upon being chosen (not saying I am trying to persuade you to choose me. haha)
