am i too picky of a reader otl
i was updating my profile when i realized that i am extremely picky
about everything
(this is considering the author knows how to write a little at least)
like how i won't read a story if its first chapter begins with description/narration. if you can't write a good hook, or couldn't put the effort into doing so, i'm not reading the rest of the story. or if the dialogue isn't punctuated/formatted correctly. or if all the paragraphs seem to be the same length. or if the author uses the same distinct word 2+ times in the vicinity of each other. or if the same sentence structure is used over and over again. (i'm looking through the romance tag right now to see why i'm not reading these stories). or using 'aka' or any other slang.
if i see a misused homonym like your/you're in the foreword, i won't think twice about exiting off the story. if 2 is used instead of two, it's a turn off. too many adverbs/adjectives is ew. absolutely no switching of pov's in first person. could be tolerable if it's every chapter but certainly not within one.
hell even long sentences turn me away.
random tense changes???? why???
this is all just basic writing etiquette why can't people jsut
do itttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt right??
like diction and sentence variety i'm not even talking about any character development issues or foreword/description peeves
i'm saying by a glance i can tell if i want to read or not
for me
there just aren't that many readable stories on aff
