「 birth name 」 Bae Jooyi

「 other name/s 」

  • Pansy: Actual meaning of the word is free thought or thought and is used in reference to literature. Her friends call her as such because of her love for reading and writing, and her constant over-thinking and over-analytical nature, thus felt as though it would be appropriate. Her mother, on the other hand, though, believes that it is a derogatory term, thus hates when she is called as such around her.
  • Joo: Only Jiyong calls her this. Though it isn't anything special, she likes it when he calls her as such.

  • Korean: Fluent; of course being Korean, one would expect her to know the language, right?
  • English: She is still in the process of learning. She can read English (barely), but prefers not to speak it because she knows that her accent gets in the way of it; barely semi-fluent.
  • Sign Language: Fluent; knows this well because Jiyong’s little sister is deaf, thus she felt that she should take up sign language as a means to be able to communicate with the young girl.

「 fashion style 」

  • During school, of course she wears her uniform in the way that it should be. She likes the uniform actual because, let’s be real, they could be worse—and she’s seen terrible school uniforms. With the uniform, though, she wears between her white sneakers (which were supposed to be for Jiyong but her couldn’t fit them), white loafers, or white Converses. Her hairstyle is definitely out of her face during school, and her makeup varies depending on her mood for the day. She doesn’t wear many accessories, just a couple necklace that matches Jiyong’s, or one of his rings that she sneaks onto her thumb. Outside of school, the girl loves wearing loose, baggy, oversized clothes ( 123 ). She loves sweaters, whether Jiyong’s or her own, and opts for leggings as opposed to jeans (but if she wears jeans, it is always her favorite, form-fitting pair). She allows her hair to be down and wild once outside of school (however her hair looks when she pulls it out of the rubber band, she sticks with). She doesn’t really dress up unless she is doing anything special, and her idea of dressing up is either a decent sweater and nice jeans (usually her favorite), or something…decent enough to be seen in ( 123 ). Usually gets her clothes from arooki , rowky, and vintage vender whilst getting her makeup from 3concept eyes. Her accessories, though she doesn’t wear much of it during school, comes from kitschisland

「 appearance 」

  • Typically wears her hair either straight or in a messy braid. She opts to move her hair out of her face, though, because she’ll get irritated with it constantly falling and obscuring her vision whilst she is attempting to hide away from others and read. Jooyi has quite a few birth marks and moles that others have not really seen, but if one would ask Jiyong exactly where they are located, he will be able to pinpoint every single one of them (get your mind out of the gutter). Knocked-kneed and being bo-legged is something that she deals with on a regular basis. Jooyi, depending on how she feels when she rolls out of bed in the morning, will either go all out and do her makeup, or just put on whatever she can immediately get her hands on. She chooses, mostly, to wear a pale lipstick or lip stain to allow her natural lip color to shine through, and has a thing for a pale orange tint of her cheeks.

「 personality traits 」

  • Bookworm, Couch Potato, Dramatic, Excitable, Heavy Sleeper, Hopeless Romantic, Nurturing, Stubborn

「 personality 」

For many that do not know, Jooyi is a bookworm and is so in love with books that it’d surprise anyone to see her around without one. She honestly cannot see herself without literature in her life. She enjoys reading so much so that she allows herself to be immersed within the pages to the point that nothing on the outside world will get her attention. She imagines herself as the characters, and often times make faces, sounds, or gestures as she reads through various pages. She takes on the emotions of the characters, and has been witnessed crying or becoming visibly angry as she reads, yet refuses to put the book down until she either finishes the chapter (or a few chapters after it). She gets angry with those who try to divert her attention away from her books. She has stated, on more than one occasion, that if she is seen with a book, then leave her alone or else she will hurt them. Close friends know that bothering her will cause problems, so they definitely leave her alone—but Jiyong, on the other hand, knows just how to push her buttons. Jooyi just so happens to be a couch potato, opting to sit down and curl up on the sofa to read or watch television as opposed to doing anything that would lead to physical activity. Not saying that the girl is lazy…but hey, she believes that she gets all of her exercise from walking around the high school campus and around Gangnam (if she is ever forced out). Why would she want to do anything to extraneous when she could be enjoy lying down reading or watching television? She is actively using her mind—why would she actively engage in physical activity? Once she sits on the couch or bed and get comfortable…it’s extremely hard to get her back up.

Jooyi, sadly, is extremely dramatic and this could tie into every day, basic interactions. For instance, if she accidentally trips and falls, she’ll scream, squirm, and try her hardest not to fall in a way that would affect anything important. If she goes swimming and the water is cold, she’ll scream and cling to the nearest person to her in an attempt to climb onto their shoulders, get onto their back, or nearly cause them to drown because of her dramatic antics. Oh gosh—don’t let this girl get a fright. It’s hard for the girl to act…regular when terrified. Once at a movie theatre when Jiyong took her to see a movie (more like forced), at the scariest of scenes Jooyi was seen racing out of the movie theater and refusing to go back in there—which caused Jiyong to literally carry her back into the movie where she refused to look at the rest of the showing (she sat on his lap, her face buried into his neck for the rest of the movie). Her dramatic nature leads to her excitable nature, as well. Everything tends to excite the girl—she even seems to get happy (if not happier) for people who tell her good news. Basic things cause this girl to get excited. Texts from Jiyong, phone calls from friends, being able to have a second serving of food, seeing her friends and family, or it being sweater weather—this girl gets excited. Achievements, good grades— anything. It causes her to cheer, jump for joy (literally), or clap her hands with a huge, dorky grin on her face.

The thing that irks a lot of people about Jooyi is the fact that she is a heavy-sleeper. Though it takes quite some time for the girl to go to bed (with her preferring to read books as opposed to taking naps or finally going to bed), once she’s out—she’s dead to the world. Nothing—and I mean nothing—will wake her up. Loud sounds, her name being called, her face slightly being slapped or poked, even her loud, blaring alarm does nothing for this girl. It’s a wonder she wakes up in time for school in the morning. Her body has an internal clock that seems to wake her up when she needs to, or when she has something important to do, but if she has nothing really to do for that day, or at that moment, then Jooyi is out…and for a long time. Going to sleep in the evening causes her to wake up the next morning, sleeping through dinner. Usually, the only thing that seems to work is Jiyong picking her up and throwing her back against the bed. At this point, Jiyong enjoys doing it more than he should and suffers the wrath of Jooyi—but it seems like the only option in the event she sleeps too long. Quite the hopeless romantic, the girl does believe in love and knows that she would have had it one day—she just never thought that it’d be so soon. She does think that everyone deserves love, yet she does not believe in fairytales because her mind definitely does know that not everyone can have a storybook ending, though they can attempt it as much as possible. Though she wasn’t exactly looking for love—it came to her, actually—she did think about it a lot, wondering if she would, one day, be able to experience what she’d read about, listened to in many songs, or seen in dramas and television shows. She enjoys the thought at two people being meant for one another and somehow finding each other through the vast majority of people in the world. It’s a sweet thought, something she is experiencing, yet something she, too, continues to read about.

Jooyi is nurturing—it’s in her nature to be so. Though she doesn’t have any younger siblings, she just adores children so much. She can’t seem to wait for the day she gets married to be able to try for children, thus will be able to express her undying love for them through caresses, hugs, and endless kisses. For now, though, she expresses her love to her many stuffed animals. Quite caring of those around her, she basically bends over backwards to ensure that others are alright. She worries for them and dotes over them. She enjoys caring for people and doing things for them, so much so that she is often looked upon as the mother of the group amongst her friends. She’s also always called whenever someone is sick, thus she takes care of them. Her mother, too, jokes that the day she has children, they will suffocate over her constant displays of affection. However, though the girl is quite loving and affectionate, she is also very, very stubborn. She sometimes feel as though things should be done her way…or no way at all. She doesn’t like when people disagree with her, or annoy her. She is the type that once she makes up her mind, it is set and nothing or anyone can change it until she feels as though it should be changed. Because of her stubborn trait…she has bickered with quite a lot of people…including her own mother, best friends, and Jiyong. Stubbornly, until she has her way, she might attempt to ignore the person who upset her…but that doesn’t seem to work because she can’t hold a grudge for long…unless otherwise provoked to.

「 lifestyle 」

Currenlty, Jooyi lives with her mother in a simple two bedroom apartment in Gangnam, South Korea. Though it isn’t much—and definitely nothing to brag about, her mother has attempted to make it as much as a home to the two of them by decorating, painting the walls, and making sure the scent of the house is up to par with the agreement of the senses. In other words, candles are constantly lit—and the fragrance of choice is either hazelnut or vanilla.

Jooyi’s daily routine consists of getting up with the smell of breakfast cooking in the kitchen. She proceeds to shower, brush her teeth, and get dressed before making it to the kitchen table just in time—because the food is being placed onto the table. After breakfast with her mother, Jooyi goes outside and waits for Jiyong to pick her up outside of her home. They typically get to school early enough to sit around the campus and catch up, or just spend time with one another, showing public displays of affection with stolen kisses, hand holding, or lap-sitting. When it’s time to go to assembly, they usually walk hand-in-hand together before having to separate based upon class. When it’s time for class, she attends as she should and, during breaks, catch up on whatever reading needed to be done at that time (she believes that she needs to get through a couple of chapters a day). At lunch, she meets up with Jiyong and sits either outside with him, or with her friends (it usually varies, and both parties are understanding with whatever she decide to do for that day). She continues on about her day as she should until the end of the day and goes to her after school activity. Having gotten permission from her teachers to create a small study group, she meets with them twice a week to make sure that they are all able to understand the material as to not fall behind—especially during exams because once study hall starts, it’ll be tough to pull up bad grades.

Aside from twice a week after school, Jooyi doesn’t do anything else at the school. She usually gets Jiyong to pick her up and take her to his house, or just decide to ride the subway back to Gangnam before walking to his house from the station at that point. At his house, she forces him to sit down and do homework with her (because he won’t attempt to do it otherwise), take a nap (which he doesn’t allow to run too long), read, and even eat dinner (but often she chooses not to eat dinner at his place so that she can go back home and spend that time with her mother during dinner—which she sometimes cook if she gets home before her mother gets home).

On the weekend, she would much rather stay in her room and read, but Jiyong usually forces her out to spend the day with him. He spontaneously takes her out on dates, walks around the park, or journeys to other parts of South Korea just to be different. When her friends get her to go out with them, they go shopping or eating. When Jooyi is in the mood, however, she definitely likes going to the bookstore, library, or museums, just because those types of places fascinate her.

「 background

Jooyi was born seventeen years ago in Yeonsu, South Korea to a young couple. Jooyi grew up with both parents in a loving household that seemed to have so much going for it. Her mother was a housewife, staying home to care for her only daughter, whilst her father worked at the South Jeolla Province Navy Base. The two were visibly in love and did everything that they could to ensure that Jooyi’s future would be set. Though her father was quite the busy man, on weekends they would have family outings as per going on the ferry and riding the ocean side looking at the sights. A picture perfect family that seemed as though the bonds between them would hold everything together—that is, until the family fell on hard times with the sudden absence of Jooyi’s father.

Jooyi was going on twelve years old when her mother found out about the affair that her husband was having, one that caused him to fall in love with the other woman and hand in divorce papers to the woman whom he had shared a life with since they were in high school. With him being the breadwinner of the family and leaving Jooyi and her mother with nothing, Jooyi’s mother had to face the bitter reality that a man who she’d given her entire life to left her in such a way…with no way to provide for her daughter. Losing the house was the first thing she dealt with—having no job caused the woman to be unable to pay the bills. For a few months, Jooyi and her mother stayed with relatives, but was unable to house the two for long, believing that they could only do but so much. With one last form of hope, Jooyi’s mother called her best friend whom she hadn’t spoken to in a long time and told her the situation, which ended up with Jooyi’s mother announcing to her that they were moving to Gangnam—the city, as opposed to the ocean side that the young girl had grown accustomed to. Still in the dark about what her father had done to the family, Jooyi thought that maybe they were going to meet her father at a new home, but was shocked to see that it was the home of a woman with two children, a young girl, and a boy who looked about the age of Jooyi. If the girl wasn’t confused and scared about the situation, the boys’ behavior made everything worse.

Behind closed doors, the boy would give her a hard time. He picked on her, was rude to her, and verbally stated that he’d prefer her to be on the streets than live with them. Jooyi had no idea why he was acting this way and questioned her mother on when they were going to go back to her father. The boy, over-hearing this, told the girl that she was never going to see her father again and that he’d left them for another individual. Shocked at the boys’ accusation, Jooyi questioned her mother on it only to find out the harsh truth—that their relationship was over. Jooyi was visibly upset, but saw that it was hurting her mother, thus the girl immediately felt that it was her duty to encourage as well as be there for her mother during such a hard time. The girl, though saddened by the situation, felt as though she had to be strong in front of her mother. She didn’t want her mother to ever see her crying over not having her father, or see how much of an effect the boy in the house had on her. She cried behind closed doors and found refuge in writing and reading—it taking her away from the reality that her life would never be the same.

After living in the house for nearly a year, Jooyi was happy to find out that her mother had found a stable job as a Kindergarten teacher in a neighboring Kindergarten school. Her mother finally was able to find some independence, and do what she’d always wanted to do from a younger age. Things were beginning to look up. With the guy—who now allowed her to address him as Jiyong—suddenly being nice to her and…even asking her to date him, things were a bit happier for her. She wouldn’t have been upset if they were to never leave, but her mother had news for them all one day….

She’d found a new place a couple of blocks away…

Mother | Hei Ryung | 40 | Kindergarten Teacher | Hard-working, Dedicated, Absent-minded, Charismatic, Loving | Jooyi has been Hei Ryung’s strength ever since the abrupt absence of her ex-husband. Ever since Jooyi sensed that her mother was hurting, Jooyi did everything in her power to make her mother happy. Because of Jooyi, Hei Ryung knew that she had to carry on—she couldn’t wallow in her misery and not provide for her daughter the type of life that she needed. Though, once her ex-husband left her, it caused the woman to fall on hard times, leading her to believe that she was a bad parent for allowing it to happen (though her best friend refused to let her continue to think as such). It took quite some time, she found strength again in knowing that she was able to pick up the pieces, and the relationship between mother and daughter have never been better. At first, she was afraid that Jooyi would blame her for the way her father left, but Jooyi knew better than to think her mother was the reason behind it. Jooyi adores her mother, respects and admires her, too. While many might give up, her mother didn’t—and for that, Jooyi is proud. Her mother is all she has in this world (as far as family would go). Yes, she has relatives, but she only has one mother and could not see how her life would be without her. She’s constantly spending time with her mother, being around her, helping her out as a volunteer at the kindergarten school her mother works at, cooks dinner for her mother, and ask her mother about how she’s feeling. Though the woman has yet to date, Jooyi definitely wouldn’t be against the idea, either. | Alive

Before the situation that happened with her uncle (Jooyi’s father), Hye Su and Jooyi talked on the regular, but after the situation, it caused…an awkward air between the two, to the point where she didn’t know whether or not Jooyi would hate her because of the actions of her uncle. Their bond only got closer as Jooyi found someone other than her cousin to be able to tell her personal problems to. Ye In didn’t judge her, and Ye In could sympathize with Jooyi’s situation. She was a sweet release for the girl and, with them complimenting each other in personalities, somehow were joined at the hip. All they do is laugh at each other—often times not even saying a word but finding some way to laugh at each other. 「 background

Jiyong remembers it as though it was yesterday—the day he received the news that his father had died in a fire. Later that week, his mother announced that she was pregnant with his little sister. Jiyong’s world was never the same. His mother was fortunate enough, though. With her husband having been a respected man in the community, there were a lot of people who refused to see her family fall under because of the terrible accident, thus were there to help her as much as possible. Her family, too, pitched in. The woman came from a bit of money, but with the help from others (which she was really thankful for), she was able to get through her newly acquired status as a widow. Though she tried to remain strong through the trying times, Jiyong’s little sister was affected by their mothers’ stress and was born with a hearing illness. Doctors predicted that before she could reach kindergarten, she’d be completely deaf, so it was best to teach her sign language as soon as possible. It was hard for Jiyong to deal with this, mainly because his sister would struggle in the world. He got overprotective of her and felt that others would judge her or pick on her because of her condition. Quite a few people did—girls in particular, which made him quite defensive and harsh to young girls he encountered.

As time went on, Jiyong’s mother was able to cope with the loss of her husband and get back on her feet with the job she’d had before she became pregnant—a secretary. Things weren’t as easy as they were before when his father was around, but they were looking up…and Jiyong was attempting to give his family any source of happiness that he could with being the only man of the house.

Jiyong is eccentric, one who has unusual interests in the world, unusual beliefs, and unusual practices. He’s always been seen as…a weirdo in a sense with his style and the way he behaves—but he doesn’t let that bother him. Jiyong doesn’t really care much about the rules and believes that rules are what holds people back in the world. He’s not a bad boy, per say, because he has feelings, but he’d opt to have fun as opposed to conforming. Jiyong does things without a second thought and let the chips fall as they may—which could get him into serious trouble when he least expects it. He gives the world everything about him—refusing to hide any secrets. His mood, his thoughts, his fascinations, his interests, his ideas—yeah, he puts them out there for others to see. What they think about him in the end, though, doesn’t really bother him. His nonchalant attitude does that. Sometimes, he thinks that there should be people out there in the world like him—people who doesn’t allow what others say get to them—he believes that the world will be a better place.

Energetic and passionate, there’s hardly anything…subtle about Jiyong. He either loves everything, or hates everything—depending on how it makes him feel at this very moment and he’ll let people know.  He has a ton of opinions, and makes up his mind fairly quickly. Passionate about those around him that he cares about, it often leads him to being defensive over it. Sometimes he can get a bit…rude and inconsiderate, yes, but he doesn’t mean it in a way to be hurtful, he’s just wary about those that come around him or his friends and family. He’s protective, loyal, and dedicated—a guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve. He can be romantic and sappy, he can be nonchalant and defensive, he can be rude and inconsiderate, and he can be quiet and scary—one doesn’t really know what they’ll get from Jiyong either that day or that week.

Jiyong is, too, extremely stubborn—whatever he makes his mind up as, it is hard for him to change it, regardless of how much others would convince him otherwise. His mindset is his own—nothing changes it. He’s quite opinionated and unknowingly finds himself pushing his opinions on others. It frustrates him when people don’t see the world as he believes. It isn’t like he is closed minded or anything, but he often times tell people how they “should” feel as opposed to what they feel. Like, he doesn’t think a lot of things that happen to people should upset them because things could be worse, or he doesn’t think people should get offended about simple things—thus he tells people this and often times leave a bad taste in their mouths. It’s as though he has no real filter. Whatever he thinks, he either says or does it, thus it can cause quite a…reaction out of others for it.

「 first meeting 」

Jooyi and Jiyong first meet when Jooyi was twelve years old. Jooyi's mother, at the time, had fallen on tough times and had nowhere else to go. When Jiyong's mother heard of her best friends' situation, decided that it'd be best to allow her and Jooyi to live with them until she could get back on her feet. Jiyong, thirteen at the time, was annoyed at the prospect of another family coming into the household, thus was prepared to give everyone a tough time. He did, actually. He verbally told Jooyi that he didn't want her in the house and would have preferred her living on the street than living with them. He kicked her seat away from the breakfast table and refused to eat breakfast with the entire family if she was going to eat with them. He purposely threw out her stuffed animals that he'd brought into the house, and tried to get his little sister to dislike Jooyi as much as he did. However, all of this was just a front. He had never really liked a girl before, thus didn't know what type of emotions he was feeling for her, nor could he understand them. It wasn't until his mother actually sat him down and had a talk with him that he realized his true feelings. Somehow she expressed to him that it was so unlike him to act in such a way to anyone. After the talk with his mother, it was as though he'd had a paradigm shift. His behavior changed, mood changed, and interactions changed--all with Jooyi (so much so that it scared him). One night, while both of their mothers were out and the two of them were at home watching over his little sister, he'd somehow asked her, quite awkwardly, if she'd like to be his girlfriend. Not knowing whether or not it'd be a bad idea, Jooyi agreed to it. From there, his affectionate side showed and everything he did was for Jooyi.

「 interactions

Their usual interactions include vasts amounts of skinship, with Jiyong being the one who initiates it, and the two of them butting heads at the most trivial of things. Though they may argue, what some people deems as a lot, they actually don't like not communicating with one another whether it be by phone call, texts, or in-person conversations. Even the classes that they are in, which causes them to be away from one another, frustrates and annoys them both. While Jooyi has an outlet (her books), Jiyong can't do anything during class (his teachers are stricter), thus he just fidgets in his seat until the bell rings before rushing out of class to meet Jooyi just as soon as she's walking out of class. When they are together in school, Jiyong likes to hold his girls' hand and let everyone around him know that she is taken by him. {Even if they have their off-season, he still expects her to wear their couple necklace so that people can still think they are together, yet gets mad when she doesn't wear it during that time because even he still does}. When walking past a group of guys, he wraps his arms around her shoulder and brings her closer to him, kissing her delicately on her forehead and getting her to say that she loves him. When they are sitting together outside, Jiyong likes to lay his head in her lap. He usually does this while she is reading, and instinctively she reaches down and plays in his hair (as long as he isn't bothering her or distracting her from her book, then she doesn't fuss or argue with him). On Jooyi's part, she likes to surprise him whenever his attention is on other things. She does this by leaping onto his back, wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck as she buries her face into the crook of his neck, murmuring how much she missed him, or whether or not he was surprised by her randomness.

Jooyi likes to send him cute little texts or pictures of herself doing various things, such as reading, in class, staring outside, sitting on the couch, cooking, or walking towards his house—just so that he can know what she is up to and whether or not he is allowed to bother her. Jooyi enjoys making Jiyong snacks—it isn’t much considering she doesn’t go overboard in what she brings with her on some occasions, but it’s small candies, a lunchbox she and her mother prepared for him, or an extra helping of bubble tea (she’s biased, so she gets him the flavor that she likes as opposed to his favorite bubble tea, which is taro. She does it just to bother him, but he enjoys it nevertheless). When they are together at Jiyong’s house, Jooyi is typically the first one to fall asleep whilst they are watching movies or huddled up on the couch. When this happens, if Jiyong doesn’t want to bother her, or make her mad, he carries her to his bedroom and watches her sleep. He likes to snap a picture of her while she is in a deep slumber and sends it to her later (much to her horror), or to his mother and little sister (so that they can be wary of coming into the house late, or just being aware that Jooyi is in the home). If Jooyi falls asleep at her house while she is with Jiyong, he takes her to her bedroom and tucks her in bed before leaving and going back home. Her mother doesn’t allow Jiyong to stay the night at the house, and when Jooyi spends the night at his house, it’s usually because once Jooyi falls asleep; it’s hard to wake her up.

Jiyong enjoys taking Jooyi out to various places. Though he knows of her love for literature, he prefers her being out and getting sun (though his real excuse that he prefers not to tell her involves him wanting to show his girlfriend off to others). He likes to take her on boat rides (since he knows of her love for the ocean), he likes to take her sight-seeing (because he knows of her curious nature), and he likes to take her hiking up the mountains (because he knows she hates it, yet they have a nice adventure at the top of the mountain with chasing each other around or just gazing at the city from the mountain top). Of course he takes her out to eat, but if he does, he has to pay for the food up front (without Jooyi knowing) because she’ll attempt to argue with him until he allows her to split the bill—which he refuses her to do. Overall, the two of them do things that normal couples do (save for the arguments that seem to stem out of nowhere and constantly breaking up), while bothering each other to no end because they both know what makes the other tick.

「 love story 」

Usually when Jiyong and Jooyi have a breakup, they don’t let anyone know much about it anymore. It isn’t that the two of them don’t get upset with it as much anymore—just knowing that either of them were upset enough to cause the other to want to break it off is saddening—but at this point, they know that they are going to get back together every single time. It was just that this time, the hot-headed Jiyong had had it with the constant break ups. Half the time he isn’t the one who breaks up with Jooyi (and much of their break ups aren’t even break ups, they just stop talking for a brief period of time). However, this recent break up was based upon a heated argument that made Jooyi end things with Jiyong. He wouldn’t have taken it as seriously as he did, but when she ripped off her necklace and threw it into his face, it was enough to make Jiyong’s mind become irrational. So irrational, in fact, that his judgments became clouded, and he did the unthinkable. One night of passion with a dear friend of his, who too was going through something with her boyfriend and dealing with personal life issues, led Jiyong to realizing he’d made the biggest mistake of his life. Arguments with Jooyi only led the two to need a bit of space—never had he been with another girl in the way he’d been with Jooyi. Jooyi was his first, and he’d wanted Jooyi to be his last—but…he’d done something no one would have ever expected him to do. He wandered, and that wandering was enough to completely turn his life upside down, though not to his knowledge at the moment. No, he would find out later.

Jooyi, on the other hand, felt bad that she’d allow herself to get so frustrated with Jiyong that she’d throw their necklace in his face. Their argument played over and over in her mind and she felt like she’d over-reacted to such a trivial argument. But something about Jiyong’s nonchalant behavior that day was bothering her, and she was already annoyed with outside factors, it just caused her to break up with him in the way that she did. She wasn’t sure if Jiyong would want her back afterwards, she was scared at the prospect of the two of them not being back together—but a week barely went by before Jiyong, head down and hands shoved into his pockets, made his way to Jooyi during school and apologized, wanting the two of them to get back together. Of course, Jooyi agreed, but she didn’t know what all Jiyong had done during their breakup.

Things between the two of them progressed in a normal way. The two still had minor arguments, yet the two of them couldn’t stay away from each other. The two spent much of their free time together and made all types of attempts not to have yet another off season. Things were fine, until the texts messages began to flood Jiyong’s phone a few months after they were back together.

Jooyi was curious as to why Jiyong was suddenly becoming secretive. He was never secretive with anyone—let alone her. Whatever bothered him, whatever was frustrating him, Jiyong would firstly tell Jooyi. But, things were…odd. Whenever Jooyi would ask who is texting him, he’d dismiss her statement, or worse, he’d dismiss himself from her presence.  He would disappear long enough to where Jooyi would see him the next morning, or go an entire weekend without seeing him. Though he attempted to act as though nothing was wrong, she could visibly see that he was bothered. She thought that it was her—that maybe their relationship had run its course and he would end things with her permanently. She’d text Jiyong, and even ask him in person whether or not she’d done something wrong, but he’d always say it wasn’t her. So…what was it?

It got to the point that Jiyong would snap on Jooyi as soon as she’d look like she wanted to ask him anything about the texts or phone calls he was constantly ignoring. His words weren’t harsh, but they were hurtful enough to make her storm away. Most times Jiyong would chase her and apologize for his actions, other times he’d just let her walk away in order to “deal” with his current situation. He thought he could handle it and/or wait for time to pass before he could figure out the truth—but it was looming over his head, and he was scared that all that he’d worked towards would come crumbling down. He was trying to avoid everything—avoid looking into Jooyi’s eyes, avoid questions from his mother, and avoid Bong Cha—the source of his problem. He thought that he could be the one to handle it…but with him avoiding her, Bong Cha knew she had to take matters into her own hands—not to be malicious, but to get Jiyong to respond to her.

Jooyi was at home alone one evening, hoping to hear from Jiyong. The doorbell rang and with a stupid grin on her face, headed to the front door expecting her boyfriend to be standing there. Preparing to greet Jiyong, she was surprised to see a stranger (whom she met just once at the bookstore months ago), standing on her doorstep, and sadness in her eyes. Before she could say something to the girl, Bong Cha blurted out that she was looking for Jiyong, her hand moving delicately to her small pudge of a stomach. Jooyi heard nothing after that moment…

「 background 」

Once coming from a nice household, she was shocked to find out that her mother was having an affair with another man. It was hard to believe that a young girl, then thirteen, would be kept in the dark from such foul, worldly things, but her father was attempting to shield the girl from it. Fighting for custody of his daughter and winning, Bong Cha went to live with her father, who was trying to get over his ego of losing his wife to another. Though he was angry and upset, the man was trying to be cheerful for his daughter—he wanted her to live a normal life. The girl, honestly, doesn’t really keep in contact with her mother much. Though it’s her mother and she loves her, she just can’t seem to get over the fact that she destroyed the family.

「 personality

People might see such a beautiful woman on the outside, smart, and charismatic, and though Bong Cha is, she doesn’t really like being around a lot of people. Crowds scare her—honestly—especially if it is around people she doesn’t know. She would much rather sit back and observe, and not deal with anyone. She only really talks to people if she has to, other than that, she’s really silent. It doesn’t mean she isn’t nice and personable. She will speak when spoken to, smile when she is addressed, joke around when she is comfortable enough, and laugh at whatever seems funny enough for her. She just feels less inclined to give her all to people only for her to get hurt. She’s seen her own father give his all in a relationship, only for his ex-wife to leave him in the way that she did, so she doesn’t really know if love exists or if she should take that plunge out of fear. It’s one of the reasons she and her boyfriend constantly breaks up, and why, when she’s met Jiyong, that she feels the need to relay her problems to him…

「 first meeting 」

Bong Cha met Jiyong through one of her guy friends who knew Jiyong from childhood. All of them ate lunch together and Bong Cha enjoyed their conversation so much so that she and Jiyong exchanged numbers. His personality is what drew her to him and the girl didn’t want to admit that she had a…slight crush on the guy.

Jooyi and Bong Cha met unexpectantly during one of Jooyi’s adventures to the bookstore. Wanting to find the next book in the series she was reading, the girl rushed there. Jooyi was surprised to see another girl in the aisle—who introduced herself as Bong Cha when she noticed that there was another fan of the series. Though Bong Cha admitted that she didn’t read much, she told Jooyi that she fell in love with the novel as soon as she picked up the book and was excited for the next installment. The two fans shared their interests in the book and what made them enjoy it so much, before departing their separate ways once purchasing it. Bong Cha’s first impression of Jooyi was a good one. The two never really met after that.

「 interactions 」

Bong Cha and Jooyi don’t interact considering they are complete strangers. They only met once during a trip that they both took to the bookstore and that was it. They both have separate lives that cause them to stay away from one another (though not intentionally). It was just rare that they came across one another.

「 why is he/she the rival?

It isn’t like she is a rival because she did Jooyi wrong or is a complete and utter . No, the only reason that she is a rival is, well…she is pregnant—and with her being unable to contact Jiyong since that one night the two of them slept together, she asked around, found out Jiyong had a girlfriend, got her address and, well, got the surprise of her life when Jooyi opened the door and they both recognized each other. Though the greater surprise was that from Bong Cha, who had news for Jooyi.

「 trivia 」

  • Doesn’t quite know whether or not she is pregnant with Jiyong’s child or her boyfriends’
  • Slept with Jiyong once one night after she poured her heart out to him about how she felt in her relationship with her mother and how it affects her with her interactions with others
  • Is the daughter of the woman whom Jooyi’s father left her mother for
  • Goes to a different school than Jiyong and Jooyi—she lives in another district further away
  • Frequently texts Jiyong now that she is pregnant

「 plotline #01: on and off 」

01. How long have they been dating?

  • Jiyong and Jooyi have been dating since they were in middle school. Jooyi was twelve at the time, while Jiyong was a year older. So, they both have been dating for five years, going on the sixth year.

02. What do they usually fight about?

  • The two usually argues and/or fights over Jiyong’s nonchalant attitude (though he tries not to be as such around Jooyi) and how he sometimes, purposely, pretends not to pay attention to her as much as he should be. Whilst she is talking to him (regardless of if it’s about what she’s read, saw on the television, went through that day, or just simple conversations with her boyfriend), Jiyong spaces out, which frustrates her and immediately lashes out on him because of it. When he claims he’s been listening the entire time, she tells him to prove it. In all honestly, he’s able to tell her everything that she’s said, but it leaves her unsatisfied that he would even seemingly look as though he wasn’t listening to her. They argue when Jooyi is paying more attention to her books whenever she is around him, and he doesn’t like that she’d rather deal with a fictional story than a non-fictional life involving him. When she’s reading, and he can’t seem to get her to pay attention to him, he takes matters into his own hands. These methods include consequences. He grabs both of her ankles and pulls her half-way off of whatever she is sitting on, and faces her wrath abruptly after. Jooyi yells at him, hits him (lightly) on the chest for terrifying and distracting her, and storms away from him because he made her mad. He always finds a way to do something like that when she gets to the best part of the book. They, too, argue whenever Jiyong wakes her up from her naps in the way that she hates—which includes him picking her up and throwing her against the bed, crawling over her and laughing at the terrified look on her face. A lot of their friends claim that they argue like an old married couple.

03. What is the new arising problem between them?

  • It happened again recently. In fact, Jooyi and Jiyong were going through a rough patch in their relationship and this time, Jooyi was the one to tell Jiyong that she needed a break. Of course, Jooyi knew that she was acting on emotions and knew that the two of them would get back together because they couldn’t stay apart for too long. But for Jiyong, he was so annoyed and had had it with Jooyi. Acting out upon emotions, he called up a girl that he had met and decided to hang out with her. Somehow he’d always found himself talking to her whenever he and Jooyi went through their problems, but this time his emotions got the best of him and he actually slept with the girl. Basically, as soon as he’d finished, he felt guilty, feeling as though this would only make matters worse between both he and Jooyi if she were to find out about it. Deciding to keep it private from both his friends and Jooyi, Jiyong acted as though nothing had happened, and sure enough, he and Jooyi got back into a relationship. Thinking that things were okay, Jooyi continued on as though they never had that recent breakup (that was now a couple of months in the past), until trouble came—literally—knocking at her door. It was the girl Jiyong had slept with and she was there with news for Jooyi (since she couldn’t locate him to tell it to). She was pregnant.

「 what are your thoughts on romance? 」

  • “I know exactly how to answer this question—and no it isn’t the cliché way that people would expect me to answer. I know I read a lot and there are so many sappy romance novels out there to make me believe that romance should have fairytale endings, but that is not the case. I do know that romance is something sweet, shared between two people who feel as though there is nobody else in the world but them. Jiyong and I, through our constant struggles, still find ways to romance each other. Whether it’s him taking me on a spontaneous date, taking me to a concert of my favorite Korean group, or cooking dinner for me—I believe that he’s a romantic at heart. I think I am, too. Shouldn’t I be, at least?”

「 what is your definition of love 」

  • “Love has no real definition. Love is many things. You can have love for your family, love for your friends, love for your significant other, or love for the strawberry bubble tea that you can't seem to get enough of—yeah, love varies from person to person. I think that love is something that can’t be described…that you just feel the love and know that it is there. You don’t have to question it; you don’t have to wonder if it is there…it is just…there. If you can’t see yourself without someone or something, or if it pains you to be away from whatever….then it must be love. Is it not?”

「 what are your thoughts on the theory: red thread of fate? 」

  • “To think that you have this invisible thread holding you and another person together is…unimaginable. I do believe in fate. I believe that things happen for a reason in the way that they happen, thus it must be so. I don’t want to sound cheesy, but…I guess you could say that it was fate for my mother to fall on such a hard time and her childhood friend, who happens to be Jiyong’s mother, just happened to be there for her in a way that she did. Had it not been so, Jiyong and I wouldn’t have gotten as close as we have. So, yes…I believe in it. In what other way could I explain how the pieces just fell into place as it did?”

「 have you ever been in a relationship? if so, state how it went 」

  • “Jiyong is actually the first person I have ever dated. It’s funny because…before I met him, I had no real intentions of ever dating anyone so….soon.”

「 have you ever experience your first kiss? if so, how was the experience? 」Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit.

  • “My first kiss happened when I was…I think thirteen. Of course, it was with Jiyong. We’d been dating for about a year at that time, and I was upset over the fact that I would be leaving his home soon. I didn’t want to go. I’d grown accustomed to seeing him every morning, eating breakfast with him, and seeing him right before I went to bed. But I knew all of that would change when we moved. I barricaded myself inside my “bedroom” and refused to come out. Everyone was trying to get me to come out, but I wouldn’t budge. I felt like I was dying. So what?! I was dramatic as a newly prescribed teenager! Don’t judge me, okay? Anyways, after being locked in the room for a few hours and still sobbing nonetheless, Jiyong had had enough and decided to climb up to the second story window of his home and slip through the window into the room that I was in. He’d never seen me cry before so he, too, was visibly upset. In an attempt to get me to stop crying (which I couldn’t seem to do), he’d pulled me towards him, moved my hair from my face, and forced me to look at him. His exact words to me were ‘I won’t let this break us up, Joo’. Before I could react, his lips were against mine—officially he’d taken my first kiss. Wide-eyed, shocked, yet speechless, I closed my eyes, my grip on him tightened, and he continued kissing me. So much so that I’d stopped crying and, before I knew it, he was holding my hand and leading me into the hallway where my mother embraced me (as well as scolded me). It was the best first kiss I’d ever experienced…literally.”

「 password Red Thread of Fate

  • I chose this song because it perfectly describes the innocent, shy love that Jiyong and Jooyi shared in the beginning. How everything they did made the girl blush or feel nervous considering she didn’t have experience on relationships and it took some time for the girl to completely look into his eyes without shyly looking away. Plus (with me being an SNSD fan and this being one of the songs I always go back to), I find it sweet just thinking about the amounts of skinship that Jiyong floods Jooyi with—always holding her hand, taking her around, kissing her sweetly, and always making her say that she loves him. I just thought that it was the perfect song for the two of them.

「 scene request 」

  • Of course a scene where Jooyi is reading and Jiyong pulls her by the ankles to get her attention thus causes her to run after him and attack him lightly.
  • A scene where Jiyong throws Jooyi against the bed when she is asleep at his home.
  • A potential flashback scene between Jooyi and Bong Cha, preferably when Jooyi encounters Bong Cha again at her door step (when she’s there to tell Jooyi that she’s pregnant), and Jooyi has the flashback as a means of recognizing where she’d seen the girl from.
  • Potentially a flashback scene of Jiyong regretting sleeping with Bong Cha abruptly after it finished, or just simple sentences of that night playing in his head (like he’s thinking about it or something).
  • I’m not sure whether or not Jooyi immediately finds out about the pregnancy around the story start, or if she finds out about it a bit after the story starts—it might be interesting to see her response to it and such—as per your ideas of how she’d react. I’d let you have control over it, or we could discuss it via PMs if you choose to write that scene IF I am chosen.
  • Maybe Jooyi will encounter her father whilst she is out with Jiyong and her demeanor changes or she tells Jiyong she wants to leave and he is confused as to why. Only after they’re far away will he be able to get out of her (or not) that the man she’d seen was, indeed, her father. She’s visibly upset and feels as though she’s going to pass out because of it.
  • A scene where Jiyong and Jooyi MIGHT end up being intimate, but it doesn’t progress that far as Jiyong’s mother returns home and immediately they have to stop, much to the amusement of Jooyi and the visible annoyance of Jiyong.
  • More to be added IF chosen (again, we could discuss this).

「 ending? Unclear ; because in this situation it is unknown whether or not Jooyi will be able to handle this—especially considering Jiyong COULD be the father of another girls’ child—something that she thought she’d never have to deal with. It’s saddening to think that he might have his first child with another…and even more sad to think that he allowed himself to be in this situation—by sleeping with someone else regardless. So, whatever you decide to do with this plot, I will leave it up to you. Can anything “good” come out of this? Haha. I don’t think it’s quite likely.
