Look Who Got Dragged Into the Plagiarism Party: Me
I got plagiarized. Yupp. /sigh/ I was made aware of this by another AFF user who's well-versed in my work. Someone plagiarized my one-shots, "Plot Twist", "The Best Medicine", "Scars", "Greatest Fear", "Your Pants Look Different", "Dreamers and Do-ers", and some other chapters in the story thread were plagiarized from other writers, too. I've reported the content already, and I recently got a reply from AFF staff that the content is now banned (as of April 13, 2014 @ 10:48 PM PDT). I'm glad that it seems things were worked out in a timely, civil manner, but I still can't help but feel really upset by this. Especially because some of the stories that got plagiarized are some that I was most proud of, like "Plot Twist" and "Dreamers and Do-ers" was very first EXO fanfic, like ever.
I was never really in the plagiarism issue because it never happened to me, but apparently, this person had been plagiarizing my one-shots since early March, and from other writers, probably even earlier, and only now got reported. Writing is hard. I could labor and agonize over a story for days on end, and it's a constant struggle of figuring out words, sitting at my desk with my laptop and my caffeine-addled brain, wallowing in self-pity and massive bouts of confusion. But in the end, these characters become like my family, and these stories become my treasures. And seeing someone just take that away from me and pass it off as theirs, without having gone through the same intensive, grueling process that I had to go through... I feel cheated. I feel deeply, deeply betrayed. And what's worse is that I feel betrayed by someone that I thought was as deeply passionate about writing fanfiction as I am.
I love writing fanfics and I love sharing it with people even more. I've always been a lonely sort of person in real life, and sharing my stories with people as enthusiastic about fanfics and kpop as I was really made me feel like I found my niche. Most of my AFF stories have text-selection disabled, so these stories were probably taken from my Tumblr. And I love the Tumblr fanfic community, so I feel really torn about whether or not I should take those stories down. /sigh/... I'm just glad I was able to settle the matter with the AFF staff as soon as possible. I'd hate to have to feel even more upset than I am now. Welll, look who decided to join the plagiarism party and isn't having any real fun.
I'm not posting up the link because I think it's been banned already anyway. Plus, I don't want my readers doing anything rash or impassioned in the heat of this upset. But to the loyal readers and everyone who is on the side of the writers, thank you so much for your continued support and you are the backbone of online fanfiction communities. Despite what some fanfic writers might say, we always have our readers in mind. Thank you.
