Fanfiction author/reader survey stolen from -Tigress- :3

The Fanfiction Reader/Writer Questionnaire

State your fanfiction pen name.

StarlightSpirit. My first (back on fanfiction.net when I was still writing anime fanfics) was ThatCrazyStalker. Erm... moving swiftly onwards!

Are you more of a reader or a writer?

I like to think that I'm both, though I definitely lean towards writer since I have so many ongoing fics that I dedicate a lot of time (4+ hours a day, most days) to writing fanfics.

When did you first start reading/writing fanfiction?

I made my Fanfiction.net account in 2005.... that would make me about 12? I was reading for a few years before that (around 2003?) but started writing in 2005. Harry Potter and some anime fanfics, mostly.

What’s the first fanfiction you ever read/wrote? What is it about?

Read was a Harry potter fanfic called 'The Reluctant Chaser'. Wrote was a Harry Potter fic, I can't remember what it was called but it involved Harry's parents surviving the killing curse by reflecting it with a bin lid. Logic.

What ratings do you read/write?

Anything. I have some really fluffy, kiddy stuff like 'Noodle Boy Next Door' and then some grittier, tier stuff like 'As the Dust Falls' and 'I'll Be Your Shelter, I'll Be Your Storm'

What was your first fandom?

Harry Potter. In K-Pop it was probably Jumping BoA.

List all the fandoms you have read/written in.

I mostly read Infinite and some VIXX, though I will also check out BTOB, BTS, U-Kiss or BEAST if one pops up and it looks okay :)

I've only written Infinite fics :)

What is your favorite fandom to read/write for?

Infinite. No doubt. Inspirit love!

Any fandom you would like to write in?

Starlight (VIXX). I just adore this group but somehow I always only end up writing Infinite fics OTL

What was your first ship?

In K-Pop? I boarded the hetero BoA and Junsu ship. My first slash ship was actually Myungyeol hehe.

List all the pairings you have read/written in.

I've read any Infinite pairing, as well as Infinite Myungsoo and Hongbin and ToHeart.

I've written; Woogyu, Myungyeol, Wooyeol, Yadong, Wooya, Hogyu, Myungjong, Hojong

What is your favorite pairing to read/write for?

Wooyeol, since it's so underappreciated. As well as that, I love Myungyeol and Woogyu and some Yadong.

Is there any pairing you refuse to read/write?

I avoid Myungjong, unless it's an amazing fic like 'Seek and Find' by Tigress. I swore I'd never write Myungjong but that evil unnie requested that write her one (so I wrote uber fluff because she doens't like fluff that much... REVENGE UNNIE!)

What do you think of het stories? Slash/? Femslash/Yuri?

I'll read anything that's well written, though I definitely favour over het. If it's het I don't like 'you' fics, and the OC has to be well written and realistic if it isn't a female idol. Yuri is something that I avoid where possible but I will read it if authors that I enjoy write it.

What is your favorite genre?

Ugh... fluff. If a fic makes me cringe with secondhand embarassment and squee with happy romantic feels then it's good. I'll read anything though, but I have to be in the mood for angsty stuff.

What is your least favorite genre?

There's nothing that I really don't like reading, but hurt and comfort fics are one that I avoid unless I really am in the mood. Plus, I cannot deal with disbandment fics.

Any genre you would like to read/write for?

I think I've tried most genres. Frosty_Maiden once told me that she didn't want me to be seen as just a fluff writer, so I took that on board and tried different genres. I've done angst, , hetero (never again, visinel), drama, comedy, fluff, crack, supernatural. I would like to try somethign high fantasy and fairytale but I think I'd fail in comparison to -Tigress- and Frosty_Maiden. my unnies are so talented *sigh* They're really the only authors I read that don't write Infinite. Go check out their fics!

Obviously there are other authors that I absolutely adore, but these are the ones that come to my head when you ask this question.

Which writer inspires your own work?

Hmmm... well my comedy stuff is mostly influenced by the Young Adult books I read. There's no particular writer. Rather than being inspred by other writers, most of my inspiration and motivation comes from music, which you can see in my titles.

What story has the most impact to you, so much that you remember it all the time?

Book-wise 'The Kite Runner'. Fanfic-wise, definitely 'Shoot To Kill (my heart is a smoking gun) by lirazel. Flawless.

What is website you use most to read/write fanfiction?

AFF!

Any certain things you avoid reading/writing about?

There's nothing I would avoid writing, except hetero . Never again *shiver*. Reading, I will avoid nothing. I'll read anything you throw at me.

What do you enjoy best about fanfiction in general?

Using the personality traits of someone and manipulating them to tell your own story. Even though we're basically creating our own characters, we're using the mould of idols to do it. It's amazing.

Do you have any fanfiction pet peeves?

'You' fics. People not using spell checks. People saying 'comment plz or I won't update' or complaining when they don't get lots of comments.

Does the number of reviews tell how good a story is?

Are we talking about reviews as in AFF reviews, or comments. The answer is no for neither. Some fics fly low under the radar and are definitely underrated. I know some amazing authors who write amazing fics that don't get as noticed as some people writing fics that aren't as creative or well written

How long should a chapter be?

I always aim for around 2000 words for chaptered fics and at least 5000 for oneshots (unless they're fluffy then it's sometimes less).

Have you ever flamed someone?

No. never. Even if a fic was 'bad' (I put bad in inverted commas because it's a very ambiguous word), I might just avoid commenting at all.

Have you ever been flamed?

I don't think so. I hope not!

Do you roleplay online?

No.

(Writers Only)

How many published fanfictions have you written?

23 published fics (not including ones where I've only posted the foreword so far). 1 completed chaptered fic, 6 ongoing fics and 16 oneshots!

Which one of your fanfictions has the most words? The most views? The most comments? The most upvotes? How many?

The most words is probably Dedication takes a Lifetime, at 18 chapters of 2000-4000 words average and some longer chapters, so probably around 50,000 words so far?

Views is Dedication takes a Liftime with 8,395

Comments is Dedication Takes a Lifetime, with 163 lmao.

Upvotes? Can you guess it? Dedication with 34 hehe.

At the moment, which one of your fanfictions is your favorite/you are the most proud of? (you can include unpublished fanfictions)

Oh gosh. This is difficult. I love Dedication, it's my baby and Weight is my other ongoing epic fic. Both are really precious. As The Dust Falls because it's so different to me, it's always a challenge to write but it's a challenge that I appreciate. Honestly though, my proudest fic is probably You Will Meet a Tall, Handsom Stranger. This is something new for me that I was unsure about to start with, but I think the tone of the fic is so much more special.

Out of all characters you have written, which one do you feel you identify the most with?

Ugh... kill me for this. Either Sungyeol from Fading Away (my younger self though) or Woohyun from Dedication. I'm pretty introverted, but at the same time I'm a very happy and nice person if you get to know me.

Do you use beta reader?

No... and my grammar for it!

What warnings have you used on your stories?

No trigger warnings, though I had to warn people in 'As the Dust Falls' about the allusions to ual assault and murder, 'Fading Away' had a warning for eating disorders and ;The Space Between Us' deals with abuse. Wow, I'm angsty...

Do reviews affect how you write in any way?

No... I actually stopped asking for reviews because the parts which the reviewer said didn't seem right always seemed to be the things that I was most proud of... OTL

What makes you happy the most as a writer?

When I get comments, but especially when the same people comment on different fics and will read anything I post. I have a few people who do this and it makes me so happy that people enjoy my writing enough to read anything I write. <3 If you're one of those people... I adore you. Obviously every commenter/subscriber is special to me and I appreciate it all, but being able to bond with someone because their name comes up on lots of things I post makes me very happy!

Do you generally outline your fanfictions or do you prefer to write spontaneously then revise?

Neither! Haha! Mostly it's spontaneous and I barely ever revise anything I write, It just comes out my fingers, I proofread quickly and then post it. I generally know how the story will end, I tend to get endings or big events first. In my oneshots I know the beginning, middle and end usually but getting there is a mystery. In my chaptered fics I know the big events that I want to happen and roughly when they will happen, but I don't plan exactly how I will get there.

Have you ever stolen something from another person’s work?

No. Never!

What do you feel is your biggest challenge when writing?

Nothing really. not that I never struggle or anything, but i don't think there's anything in particular about writing that bugs me. Mostly, it's trying to concentrate on one thing without getting inspired to write something else.

Do you have any certain ritual to do before/while/after you write?

Nope. Load up a google docs and start writing. I have playlists that I listen to when I write, like As the Dust Falls has a very angsty playlist and Nell is the background music for Tall, Handsome Stranger hehe.

Do you actively advertise your story or request for reviews/upvotes?

Nope! I say at the end 'please do comment and upvote if you enjoy', but I don't actively beg for them or anything!

Would you ever want a trailer for a fanfiction you’ve written to be made?

I've never thought of it, but a trailer for Tall, Handsom Stranger would be amazing!
