My Life

History: Kyung Mi is a member of District 4 and lived with with her older brother, Dong Woon. Her parents disowned her at the age of ten when she refused to train as a Career tribute. Although Dong Woon trained as a Career tribute, he never took pleasure in it. When Kyung Mi was disowned, he left with her in order to protect her and teach her everything he knew in order to prepare her, should she be chosen as tribute. 

Dong Woon often returned home to train with the other Career tributes so that he could gain more knowledge to pass onto Kyung Mi. Therefore, she would be left to her own devices for most of the day. Kyung Mi preferred to immerse herself in books, often bringing a novel to read as she fished in order to pass the time away. She has a photographic memory, which aids her in her quest for knowledge. She is able to recognize plants and animals that she has never seen before if she has seen an illustration of them in a book. 

Every Saturday afternoon, Dong Woon trained her for four hours. They used an assortment of knives, swords, and tridents. Kyung Mi's favorite weapon is the push dagger and she uses it to kill fish as soon as she catches them. Her agility, stamina, and reflexes have greatly improved since she was disowned, but not up to the Career Districts' standards. Kyung Mi grudgingly allowed Dong Woon to train her, because she knew that one day, she may be chosen as tribute. Although she is neither the fastest nor the stronger, she is confident that she is the smartest. 

When Kyung Mi was not fishing, reading, or training, she meditated in the woods in order to heighten her senses. These meditations increased her senses of smell and hearing immensely. She also allowed herself to imagine what life would be like if she had not rebelled against her parents or if the Hunger Games did not exist. These daydreams increased her hatred for the Hunger Games and she channeled this hatred during her training. 

On the day of the 26th reaping, she was chosen as District 4's female tribute for the 26th annual Hunger Games. When on the stage, after the male tribute was chosen, Kyung Mi made eye contact with Dong Woon and gave him a little smile of reassurance to let him know that she would do her best to outwit the other tributes so she could come home as the winner. To prove to her parents that she did not need the Career Districts' training, to prove to the other tributes that intelligence is the best weapon and the greatest resource, and to prove that the underdogs should never be underestimated.

Personality: Kyung Mi does not enjoy socializing, having always found comfort in the company of Dong Woon. Her books are her best friends; they will never berate you for any mistakes you make and you can never disappoint them. She gives out short answers and tries to avoid speaking to people as much as possible. She comes off as rude at times, but she could care less about what others think about her. As long as she has Dong Woon and her books, she is content. Nothing more, like petty friends or domineering parents, is needed in her life.

Although she avoids giving away information about herself, as a naturally curious person, she sometimes finds herself asking questions about other people. It makes her a bit of a hypocrite, but her curiosity overpowers her aloofness at times. She is always digging deeper for answers and if it means speaking to others, she will do it. Knowledge is power and if she is to conquer the obstacles she comes across throughout her life, then she must gain as much knowledge as possible about everything. The pursuit of knowledge is the most important aspect of her life and she will willingly change herself if it means she gains valuable knowledge.

Kyung Mi is a fighter and rebel. She has been one her entire life. She backs down to no one, especially when she knows she is right. Nothing else would have given her the courage to stand up to her parents and refuse Career training. She follows her own truths and ideals, and she is blazing to forge her own path. She will defend her own opinions to the end, no matter if she seems to be on the losing end of the stick. If she does not, then she is not in control of the game; she will become another mindless pawn that blindly follows the instructions of others.

Scars/Defects/Impairments/Disabilities: Kyung Mi has a scar starting from her right shoulder spanning her entire back to her left hip. When she was eight, she had swum much further than she ever had before. Before she knew it, a shark had begun pursuing her. She swam away as fast as she could, crying for help as she did. As she was nearing her father's ship, which was trawling for tuna, the shark overtook her and attacked. Luckily, Dong Woon and some of the crew members had seen her swimming towards them, and had already jumped into the water to save her. One of the men remaining on board harpooned the shark, thus killing it, and Kyung Mi was released from the deadly shark's hold.

Family's Reaction: Her parents' mouths curled up into matching smirks. Finally, their sorry excuse of a daughter would realize the huge mistake she had made when she defied them all those years ago. If Kyung Mi died, it was no loss. They had ceased caring for her the moment she packed her bags and walked out of their lives.

Dong Woon's mouth tightened and he felt his heart stop. Even though they had trained for this possible situation, his brain hadn't quite processed that Kyung Mi had been picked. She had lasted this long without her name being drawn. Only two more years and she would have been safe. But fate waited for no one. And now, she was going to play the game. With her life on the line.

How did you receive token: Dong Woon gave this to Kyung Mi on her twelfth birthday. Now that she was old enough for the Hunger Games, there was no telling if she would ever be reaped. This would be a reminder that she was capable of adapting to any challenges that life threw her way. Should the worst happen, she would be able to remember that through this necklace, Dong Woon was always by her side. She was never alone, no matter what.
Who visits before you leave: Dong Woon ran into the room and threw his arms around her, holding her as if his life depended on it. "Remember, this is just a game. You can win," he murmured in her ear. He was right. Another game. Nothing her brain could not handle. She would outsmart those Capitol fools. She would outsmart them all. With her intelligence and her brother's training, she would win. She would show everyone. Nothing would tear her away from her brother. Absolutely nothing.

Training

What do you do during public training: Kyung Mi walked to the knot station and settled comfortably on the floor. She grabbed a length of rope and began tying knots, imagining it to be a fishing net. A sense of immediate calm washed over her and as she mindlessly tied, she observed. She graciously let the other tributes move first. She was in no rush. There was that saying of patience being a virtue. Well, now it was another game piece that she had taken. And now that she had it, the others would lose, for they had unwisely chosen to reveal their strengths to the world. Weaknesses could be easily deduced with a mind like hers. Let them enjoy this fleeting feeling of power.
What do you do during private training: Kyung Mi strode to the rack of tridents, taking them down and testing their weight one by one. She finally settled on a trident that was as long as her arm. Spotting the knives conveniently spread out on a table next to the trident rack, she picked up a set and secured them to her belt. She stepped into the simulation room and waited for the holograms to run at her. As soon as they appeared, one hand controlled her trident, which slashed through each hologram running towards her, while the other grabbed each knife and threw them at each hologram aiming for her from the balconies.

Interview 

How do you act during the interview: Kyung Mi took a deep breath as she sat down under the bright lights, overlooking the sea of potential sponsors. Dong Woon always told her that this was a crucial turning point. If she messed up, it did not matter how smart she was. She would get no sponsors and her hopes of survival would be vanquished. Even if she hated these Capitol prats, they were essential pawns. She could not let the enemies take them. So she plastered on a bright smile, threw away her true personality, and started out with a joke, guised as a riddle. She and the interviewer bantered comfortably, and she occasionally threw out a fun fact taken from one of the thousands of books she had read whenever the current topic seemed to become stale. She kept the audience engaged and hoped with all of her heart that some of them would lend their services to her during the Hunger Games.

What is your strategy in the games: Kyung Mi plans to keep to the trees or find an island surrounded by vast water. She will have a bag of supplies she managed to take from the Cornucopia before escaping. As long as she is concealed, no one will find her and she can concoct a way to kill off those remaining. It is true that she cannot hide forever, but by the time the remaining tributes find her, they will be worn out while she will be at full strength and ready to show what she has learned from Dong Woon these past seven years.
