Nothing will ever beat the original.
I love Miss A and I like Sistar. I love Miss Sistar even more, though.
Both groups are similar in the sense that they have very good music, very good choreography, and an even hotter image. But this only showcased how different the two groups actually are.
Miss A's representation of y is both fierce and female empowering while Sistar is more feminine and alluring. They're both exceptionally classy and have a certain kind of elegance to them that can try to be emulated but never successfully executed by any other group.
For other groups "y" is just a concept but for Miss A and Sistar, it's safe to say that they just are. Them being y is not a concept and it doesn't come out forceful at all. Which is the least that I can say for these other girl groups trying to gain attention. But we're not talking about that right now.
Like I said, nothing can beat the original. I went through some comments saying that one did better than the other, but I highly disagree with both. Though both groups are similar, like I said, it was obvious that they were out of their element.
Let's start with my bias group Miss A. It's undeniable that Miss A has great vocals end even better dancing capabilities, but Sistar is a vocal group and they excell the most as a vocal group. I think Min was able to execute Hyorin's parts well but the problem is that Min's voice is a lot fuller and more soulful while Hyorin's timbre is higher and she has that nice rasp to it. Min has a bit of a rasp too but it's obviously more evident in Hyorin's airy vocals, so it brings a different dyncamic to Alone. Fei's voice suited it the best, but then again she has a very mature and elegant aura to her so it works. They looked great in the outfits, but some more than others. It really brought out Min's and Fei's curves out the best. Though it didn't at all suit Suzy's image, the song did well to compliment her vocals. Jia I think executed Bora's rap the best, and may have done it better, though I really do love Bora's low whisper-talk way of rapping. All in all it was good, not their best, but tolerable. Again, they seemed out of their element and you can tell they prefer to move around more. One thing I've noticed about Sistar is that their choreography is very stationary, so it looked like it was difficult for the girls of Miss A to not be able to move around freely and showcase their true dancing abilities. Instead they had to teally maintain control and discipline. Something that I know Min must've stuggled the most with considering she likes to dance at full power without holding back. Vocally, some did better than others and they managed to tone down their dancing, so they pulled that off well. But this wasn't their best performance.
Next up is Sistar. I think with this performance, Sistar showed that their dancing abilities are not at all up to par with Miss A's. The sharp and powerful moves needed in Hush were in no way shape or form executed by Sistar. Again, Sistar is great when it comes to stationary choreography, but things that require too much movement, and transitions is not for them at all. This kind of proved that when it comes to executing powerful choreography, Miss A is on an unmatchable level. The dance was weak and messy and probably the reason why no one ever fully covers Miss A. They either do the dance or they sing it, but never together. Sistar's strong point has always been their vocals, but it felt really off. Miss A have thicker vocals and sing at a lower register while Sistar sing all of their songs at a higher register and have lighter, airy vocals. It's like comparing night and day; with Miss A's vocals being the mysterious night and Sistar being the refreshing day. The transition here sounded really awkward to my ears; though I think vocally, I think it was Soyou, sounded the best. Hyorin on the other hand sounded the worst to me, surprisingly for the first time ever. Not that she sang bad, she can never sing bad, but like I said before; Min's vocals, especially in Hush, are a lot fuller in comparison and though they both have a similar range, Min's timbre is much lower and more soulful than Hyorin's, so it just didn't work.
Both groups have excellent vocal abilities and dancing chops but what this proved is that if they can't cover one another's songs, then most definitely no one else would ever be able to. They both tried, and this was only just for fun, but neither did the other one better than the original. Obviously both groups have a certain sound and image, and they need to stick to it.
They both get an A for effort though.
My favorite collaboration is Miss Sistar, and I hope next time they actually have them collaborate on a project together. Enough of this Vs BS. Think about it, Miss Sistar probably would make the ultimate collaborative group if given the opportunity. Especially when you have the Nation's best dance group and the Nation's best vocal group working together. Let's also not forget that the are close friends and have great chemistry. OMG... I can just imagine it now. That would be perfect. One of the Gayo's need to get on that this year. Hell, have the comapnies call oine another and set up either Miss Sistar or a Soyou and Min unit.
