Situation with Minzy
It's been a while since I actually wrote something in a blog, but I thought this was the most appropriate time since I'm a little frustrated with the behavior of a few fans who can't seem to be mature for just one second. This isn't a rant on the members or YG, so if you can't accept my opinion I ask you to 'X' out now, because we won't be seeing eye-to-eye at all since you might not like what I have to say at all. You have been warned.
To be honest, I can't blame it all completely on YG. It's easy to point fingers and say YG is at fault since they're the big company, but people need to recognize that a lot of YG artists who wanted something to get done, not only showed perseverance, but never relented. Fans need to recognize their idols' faults.
While CL, Dara and even Bom (back before the scandal of course) where making connections and showing their true desire to keep busy, whether doing small things on the side or promoting as 2NE1, Minzy was no where to be seen. She may have been underage for the first part of 2NE1's existance, but she had plenty of opportunities that went wasted by her. She wasn't the first or last underage maknae, but it seemed like there were others who were more determined than her.
She didn't have the same motivation. When she decided to go back to school for whatever reason, SHE made the deal with YG that if she went back she would have to put all of her focus on it when NOT promoting with 2NE1 and she agreed. They mentioned this more than once. People accuse them of neglect, and you know what maybe they did, but she did nothing to remind them she was there. And YG has always said that he doesn't help those who aren't willing to help themselves and put the effort to show they were serios about their craft.
Without compleints CL had to work her off, waiting for YEARS before debuting (same with Bom and Dara) and worked even harder after 2NE1's debut to prove to YG she was ready for a solo a solo which wasn't even fully promoted and was only a single, unlike Bom. She also promoted 2NE1's name and her own name as she built connections through the years with big names in art, photography, fashion and music and that was on her own without YG's influence. Bom and Dara would do the same. Bom would always be in the studio, ready and willing to lend anyone a hand if they needed a pair of background vocals and always performed her best despite the problems with her lymphnodes and remained positive despite the people talked. Dara was determined to prove she was serious about her acting and was more than just a pretty face, she continued to improve with every comeback, and while waiting for an opportunity to act she became 2NE1's representative spokesperson, she even pushed down her shy personality in order to do well in variety and to be an MC to promote their name. They themselves say that these were things that they acquired on their own, it wasn't just given to them on a silver platter. They had to earn what they got.
Yes, Minzy worked hard and she improved vocally, but she would always seem to linger in the background while the other three members held more of a presence. I'm not saying it's her fault but the fact that she didn't have to work as hard or wait as long as the others to debut probably was a factor in the way she viewed things. She didn't know what it meant to actually work her off like they did. If she was so serious about writing and composing music then why did she never take the time in those two years she was "sitting on her and waiting" to release a mixtape on her own or post videos of herself doing dance or song covers on YT long before? I find it hard to believe that YG was restricting just her while everyone else had more leniency. That's ridiculous.
Do I think her mother, which I honestly find to be greedy and sneaky, influenced her decision? probably so, since she always seemed to be the type that looked like she resented Minzy being in a group with members that had very strong personalities and stage presence. But shit happens. Sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst. All we can do is hope that things can go well for her and the rest of the other members who ironically signed on to have a comeback in the summer. They were willing to be patient. She wasn't. She left. People need to respect her decision, especially if she felt like she wasn't getting enough or what she deserved, and stop harassing everyone related to her and YGE for answers they won't get.
Wish her all the best, but personally I'm not all that upset despite 2NE1 being one of my all-time favorite female groups, mainly because I saw it coming a mile away.
