Character Overview

Personality: Taehee is a girl who neither looks her age nor acts like it.  Her youthful appearance gives others the impression that Taehee is one who is innocent, naive, - and male.  On the contrary, Taehee is anything but (well, except for maybe the "male" part - she is quite the tomboy when it comes to her appearance and her speech patterns).  She has a coarse mouth and speaks, not necessarily rudely, but bluntly.  She's straightforward - almost to a fault.  Not only that, she tends to crack jokes at the most inopportune moments.  This aspect of her has caused her to become the bane of each of her teachers' existences - despite the fact that Taehee actually does fairly well in school.  Taehee sleeps in class and is known as the class clown, but when it comes down to it, Taehee knows how to focus on whatever important tasks are at hand.

Taehee is also fiercely loyal to her friends and loved ones, and it is this aspect of her that makes her extremely lovable.  She is not afraid to get her hands dirty if it means keeping her friends happy.  She often volunteers to take the blame if one of her friends does something that could get him/her into trouble.  Taehee also has a for cute things - and this includes cute girls and boys.  She'll often go around teasing all her adorable female/male underclassmen.  All in all, Taehee is a child who acts nothing like her age, but can definitely be counted on in times of need.

Likes:

  • aquariums (her favorite animals are sea animals)
  • cheesy pick up lines (she'll both say them and accept them)
  • cute things (plushies, people, food, etc.)
  • making erted comments
  • neon colors
  • practical jokes (unless they're being done on her)
  • science (it's her favorite subject, and her best subject)
  • sleeping

Loves/addictions: (3+)

  • doing science experiments
  • drinking coffee and green tea
  • finger-tutting (her hands have a nervous twitch, and she learned finger-tutting to calm it)
  • knitting scarves (knitting also helps calm her twitch)

Dislikes:

  • anything frilly or lacey - on herself (she doesn't mind seeing it on other people, she just thinks she herself cannot pull it off)
  • being lied to (she even gets a little irritated with white lies)
  • being tricked (she'd rather be the person doing the tricks)
  • math (it's her worst subject - which is weird, since most people who like science also like math)
  • neutral colors (she finds them boring)
  • people who aren't filial to their parents
  • sports that have to do with a ball (she has terrible hand-eye coordination)
  • the paranormal

Hates/fears: (3+)

  • she believes in ghosts and fears them (this includes fearing haunted houses and hating scary stories)
  • she fears bugs (if she even sees an ant or a ladybug, she'll tremble and fall deathly silent)
  • she fears small spaces (which is almost ironic, given her tiny stature)
  • she dislikes people who use the word "hate" easily - because, to her, hate is a very strong word
  • she also dislikes people who joke about death or killing themselves/other people

Hobbies:

  • dancing (she picked it up when learning finger-tutting)
  • donating scarves to the homeless (she always knits after all - might as well do something with those scarves)
  • exploring new cafes (in search of the perfect coffee)
  • reading manga until the wee hours of the night (this is how she procrastinates if she's not knitting/finger-tutting)

Habits:

  • if she likes someone, she will give them the cold shoulder (because she doesn't know how else to deal with crushes)
  • if she sees someone she deems adorable, she will immediately try to befriend them and baby them
  • she finger-tuts in class to control her twitch (sometimes this distracts the teacher who will send her out into the hall, thinking Taehee wasn't paying attention)
  • she laughs while covering with the back of her hand
  • she used to wear glasses, so sometimes she will still unconsciously bring her hand up to her face as if to adjust her "glasses" on top of her nose bridge
  • she will blow her bangs out of her face if she's feeling annoyed
  • she will hide her emotions behind a smiling exterior if she's feeling upset/sad

Random facts:

  • she has a nerve disorder that causes her fingers and hands to twitch
  • she has no relationship experience whatsoever
  • she is panual
  • she refuses to grow her hair long and always cuts it once it reaches shoulder length
  • she speaks English with a British accent and Korean with a Busan dialect

Personal description: Taehee's hair is all-natural in terms of color and texture; she's never permed it nor dyed it.  She's low-maintenance in the sense that she always keeps her hair cropped short and never puts on make up.  She has Epik High lyrics tattooed underneath her left clavicle ("Spread your wings, you can fly") and birds tattooed onto both wrists.  She has regular lobe piercings on both ears and two conch piercings on only her left ear.  Her lobe piercings are always black cubic zirconia studs and her conch piercings are two small steel stars.

Height: 155cm, 5ft 1in

Weight: 46.4kg, 102lbs

Fashion sense: Taehee's motto when it comes to fashion is "wear whatever's comfortable."  She wears jeans and loose-fitting shirts, but usually not so simply.  She'll spice up her outfits by either wearing loud colors or a multitude of accessories.  She finds skirts and dresses to be uncomfortable, and only breaks from her jean/t-shirt pattern when it's winter or if she has to dress formally.  In winter, she layers her clothing like crazy - but still keeping with her beloved neon color scheme.  In terms of formal wear, that is the only time when one can catch a glimpse of Taehee in a dress or in a skirt (even in a dress or a skirt, however, Taehee will dress conservatively).  Footwear-wise, Taehee's a bit of a sneaker freak.  She has a different pair of sneakers for each day of the week.

Family Information

Mother: Lee Tasha - 44, deceased, children's book author.  Bubbly, energetic, hyperactive personality.

Father: Lee Taekyung - 46, deceased, biology professor.  Distant, quiet, stern personality.

Siblings: ---

Other relatives:

Foster/Adoptive Grandparent: Byun Boram - 70, alive/widow, retired stylist.  Cheerful yet taciturn personality.

Family background: Byun Taehee was actually born Lee Taehee within a hospital in London, England.  Her birth parents adored her and treated her as if she was a prized porcelain doll.  Her mother often went to Taehee for storybook ideas, while her father would homeschool Taehee in the ways of math and science.  However, one day, while visiting Taekyung's hometown of Busan, a terrible bus accident occured where Taehee - only age eight - was the only one from her family to survive.  Taehee was then passed along between all of Taekyung's living relatives (for Tasha's family had long since cut off ties with their daughter - they had been xenophobes and were upset that their precious daughter had married a man of another race) in Busan, but no one wanted to keep her for long.  Taehee developed a nervous disorder (the twitch) since the accident, and all of Taekyung's relatives had found it to be a bad omen.  Superstitious as they were, they decided to turn Taehee over to the foster care system.  Taehee was lucky; her first foster parent was Byun Boram, and Boram had developed an immediate liking to the child.  Eventually, Taehee was formally adopted and her family name was legally changed to Byun.

Byun Taehee was treated very kindly by her new grandmother.  Boram had even taught her how to knit, in hopes it would calm Taehee's twitch.  As Taehee grew older, she also became increasingly protective of her grandmother.  Her personality then warped into her current one today; she felt becoming more manly would assist her grandmother.  Taehee is only able to be such a carefree-seeming trickster today because of her grandmother, who told her to live every day with a positive outlook.

(P.S. it is because of her birth parents' deaths that Taehee dislikes un-filial children and people who joke about death.)

Persona: The "Byuntae Choding" - she's a girl who looks and acts like a preteen boy; she's also infamous for her inappropriate comments.

Friends: (P.S. Taehee friended these underclassmen initially because of their looks, LOL - hence the "cute"/"adorable" adjectives.)

  • Jiyoung (KARA) - Adorable, innocent, full-of-wishful-thoughts, sweetheart
  • Kwangmin (Boyfriend) - Cute, quieter-than-his-brother, seemingly-older-than-his-age
  • Youngmin (Boyfriend) - Cute, loud, slightly obnoxious, twerp
  • Minwoo (Boyfriend) - Child-like, cute, full-of-aegyo, only-serious-about-dancing
  • Ricky (Teen Top) - Attention-seeking, naive, straightforward, baby
  • Other applicants~

Best friend(s): (3 max. Refer to list at bottom. Bullet points. Name (group) - Personality. Be descriptive!! I might not know them!! If you choose another applicant, you don't have to give their personality because I'll already know them.)

  • Hoya (Infinite) - Hoya is a guy who seems to just ooze charisma; a lot of girls around school even nicknamed him "Hogod" because of his dashing good looks and distant demeanor.  However, get to know the guy and you realize he's quite the big baby.  He's picky about food and uses aegyo when he really wants to have something go his way (although, he immediately feels shame after using aegyo - always).  He's an average student, but an above-average athlete.  He treats Taehee like one of the guys when in front of other people, but when the two are alone (or within their group of close friends), Hoya's one of the few who actually treat her like a girl.  Hoya also doesn't let anyone else call him by his real name - Howon - except for Taehee.
  • Jeongmin (Boyfriend) - Jeongmin is an arrogant "mirror prince."  He never goes anywhere without his special rose-patterned mirror.  He believes his greatest asset is his looks.  Despite his vain personality, he's actually quite the charmer.  He's a ladies' man, and he gets a confession a day.  To be honest, he had a crush on Taehee when she first transferred in, just because she was so different from normal girls.  After getting bluntly rejected (because Taehee had been completely oblivious to his intentions when he had asked her out), however, Jeongmin no longer sees Taehee as a member of the opposite .  Sometimes, he'll even make erted jokes alongside Taehee.  He now treats her like nothing more than a younger brother.
  • Wooyoung (2PM) - Wooyoung is the peanut butter to Taehee's jelly; the salt to her pepper.  The two are childhood friends after all, so I guess it makes sense.  He was actually the one that encouraged Taehee to transfer over from Busan.  In any case, Wooyoung is similar to Taehee in the sense that they both sleep in class and act like the class clowns (they often bounce jokes off of one another).  He's not a science person, however; he's more into language arts and history.  He's also not as straightforward, and he dislikes Taehee's blunt manner - since it can come out rude, at times.  On that note, Wooyoung often acts as a physical form of Taehee's brain-to-mouth filter; he'll drag her off or cover if he thinks she's about to say something stupid.

How you became best friends:

  • Hoya (Infinite) - When Taehee had first transferred in as a sophomore, she had gotten separated from Wooyoung while he was showing her around the school campus.  While wandering around, lost, her ears happened to hear loud, booming bass music.  She followed the source of the sound and saw Hoya dancing alone outside the boys' dorms.  Being the straight-forward person she was, she wasted no time and immediately asked Hoya if he could give her dancing lessons (she was simply attracted to the way his body had moved).  Hoya thought, "Hm, why not," and decided to teach her right then and there.  Somehow or another, Hoya was able to notice how there were moments when Taehee's hands would tremble in an abnormal manner.  That's when Taehee admitted to her nervous disorder and that's when Hoya taught her finger-tutting.  The two have been the best of friends ever since.
  • Jeongmin (Boyfriend) - Their friendship started off halfway through sophomore year, with Jeongmin realizing the two shared a lot of classes.  Jeongmin had been attracted to Taehee at first sight, and had waited until halfway through the year to ask the girl out.  However, Taehee was oblivious to Jeongmin's true intentions and (indirectly) rejected his offer to date.  "Let's go out," he had asked.  "Out?  As in outside?  Alright then, why not." Taehee had responded.  Jeongmin was flabbergasted, but her next words flabbergasted him even more.  "By the way, what's your name?"  Feeling his pride hurt, Jeongmin ran away and began to avoid Taehee.  This only lasted a week before Taehee confronted him, asking, "Did I do something wrong?" Jeongmin couldn't stand the oblivious, yet innocent look on Taehee's face and answered that he had just been having the male version of PMS.  Taehee laughed, and somehow, the two became fast friends after that.
  • Wooyoung (2PM) - When Byun Boram initially adopted Taehee, she showed the little girl around the neighborhood.  Wooyoung had been the only other kid in the neighborhood around Taehee's age, so Boram immediately hoped that the two kids could become good friends.  On their fateful first encounter, Taehee had been wearing a Pokemon t-shirt and baggy jeans.  Wooyoung had just so happened to be playing Yellow version on his Gameboy.  The two then bonded over their mutual love for Pokemon and began a lasting friendship.

Love Interest

Top three:

  • Sungyeol (Infinite) - Sungyeol is an immature kid who rarely acts his age.  His nickname is "choding" for a reason - he acts like an elementary schooler even though he's a high schooler!  He's a trickster who's motto in life is "Carpe Diem! (Seize the Day!)"  He's not necessarily an optimist, he just doesn't care for wasting time on negative thoughts.  Rather than see the glass half full or half empty, he's the type to ask for a cup of joe instead.  Sungyeol is also the kind of guy who gets easily distracted; it's almost as if he has ADHD.  And when it comes to girls...  Sungyeol's never taken an interest in girls before.  It's not like he treats females no different from males, he's just never fallen for someone before.  Thus, when he finally finds someone he likes, he doesn't know how else to act except to just tease that person.  He's the epitome of a little boy who would pick on the girl he's crushing on.
  • Dongwoo (Infinite) - Dongwoo is an always-smiling optimist who finds the silver lining in every cloud.  He acts foolishly and seems to be in a constant state of naivety, but he still manages to consistently score high marks on exams (he's always in the top five of his grade level).  He's gullible, and often the of everyone's jokes.  However, being the good-natured guy he is, he'll just laugh it off.  He's an extrovert too; he always tries to get along with everyone.  Amiable, optimistic, romantic (in terms of ideals), and surprisingly smart - that's basically Dongwoo in a nutshell.  When it comes to girls, he's rather dense to their feelings.  If he likes someone, however, he'd definitely try his best to always preserve the smile on her face.
  • Onew (SHINee) - Onew is a young man who's very focused; he knows what he wants to be in the future and he knows what steps to take from point A to point B.  He's at the top of his class and would be school president if it weren't for the fact that he was already the head of a lot of clubs - too many clubs to count.  One would think such a studious, busy person would be cold and heartless.  However, that is not the case with Onew.  Onew is a cheerful guy who enjoys cracking the cheesiest puns known to man - often leading to awkward silences when no one laughs at them (this infamous phenomenon has been nicknamed "Onew Sangtae" or "Onew Condition").  When it comes to girls, he was taught by his parents to always treat them with respect - so that's what he does.  It leads to miscommunication sometimes though; often times, females think Onew's being nice to them because he has a crush on them - when that may not necessarily be the case.  When Onew actually does have a crush on someone, he becomes clumsier and tongue-tied.  His mind will wander and all his clever words will suddenly seem to fly out the window.

How you met / your story: (Be original and creative!! My story will only be as good as you let it. Be as detailed as you want. You can include feelings, thoughts, worries, etc. You can also write what happens after that and stuff, but leave some room for things to go a little haywire. Every story needs some drama ;D)

  • Sungyeol (Infinite) - On the first day of junior year, Sungyeol had decided that he wanted to prank the famous "Hogod" of school.  He looked around the classroom, realized Hoya was running late, and immediately set to work on executing his plan.  He set a bucket of water atop the classroom door and waited for Hoya to meet his wet surprise.  However, there was something off about Sungyeol's plan - mainly, he didn't account for the fact that another student had been running late with Hoya.  Taehee was unfortunate enough to open the door, instead of Hoya, and got drenched by the bucket of water.  It didn't help that she was wearing a white shirt; her sports bra was revealed thanks to her wet top.  Sungyeol tried to stifle his laughter and apologize ("Pfft, I'm sorry; I was aiming for "Hogod" over there, not you, what's your name...  Byuntae, right? No?"), but eventually he burst out into hysterics at Taehee's soggy state.  Taehee swore vengeance upon him and eventually the two started an ongoing trick-or-be-tricked war.  One day, after school, Taehee was off on her usual hunt for finding the perfect cafe with the perfect coffee.  She ran into Sungyeol at the cafe, and the two agreed to put aside their differences after school; the two also agreed to always meet up once a week to find the perfect coffee.  Enemies during the school day, and mutual coffee lovers after school...  That was their relationship until the day Sungyeol was absent from school.  Taehee realized there was something about him that made going to school that much more exciting.  Could it be love?  Taehee didn't know; all she did know was that something inside of her made her want to visit his house and check up on him.  And so she did.
  • Dongwoo (Infinite) - One April Fool's Day, sophomore year, Taehee had covered a random classroom door with seran wrap.  A mysterious blonde boy had gotten caught in her trap, and Taehee had run away in a fit of giggles.  One day in junior year, Taehee received a call from Hoya that he had managed to secure an actual room for dance practice.  Excited, he had told her to hurry down for that night's practice.  When Taehee had arrived, however, Hoya wasn't alone.  He was already going through choreography with a certain blonde male.  This blonde male was the first to notice her arrival, and he turned around to greet her with a wide smile - a smile that made Taehee's heart flutter.  "Oh, hey, you two haven't met right?  Usually, Taehee has community service stuff to do on Tuesday nights, so I guess that's why...  Anyways, Jang Dongwoo, this is Byun Taehee.  Taehee, this is Dongwoo."  Taehee had offered out a fist for a fist bump, but Dongwoo hesitated his hand right before fist bumping.  "Oh wait a minute, you're that chick who got me last year on April Fool's Day!"  Taehee gulped, "Uh, haha, yeah, that was me.  I'M SOR-" "That was an awesome trick!" Dongwoo had interrupted with a wide grin.  "I've always wanted to meet you again.  Nice to meet you!"  Hoya lifted an eyebrow as he observed his two dance-mates interacting, particularly his female best friend.  "I wonder if Taehee just fell for Dongwoo at first sight?  Or should I say second?"
  • Onew (SHINee) - Taehee had gotten her first quarter interim grade report, and her math grade was not looking pretty.  Needless to say, she needed help - and fast, before she ended up failing Calculus for that semester.  With no better plan in mind, she decided to go to Homework Help to find a math tutor.  Luckily, she was already a tutor there (for English and science), so the tutors there gave her special treatment and sent her off to find a senior named Lee Jinki, who was apparently the best mathemetician in the school.  She found him helping out the cheer team, who were busy thanking him (and flirting with him).  When the cheer team realized Taehee had arrived, some of the members began to make fun of her erted nature and manly appearance.  Taehee didn't really mind such comments usually, but hearing them in front of her potential tutor made her angry.  Just as she was about to raise a fist, Onew had stopped her hand in its place and kindly excused both himself and Taehee from the cheer team's presence.  "A girl shouldn't harm her hand in a fight after all," he had mumbled with a wink while leading Taehee to a classroom.  Taehee flushed before Onew cleared his throat.  "Anyways, you were looking for me?  I'm Lee Jinki, although I'd rather be called Onew.  What can I do for you?"  At that moment, Taehee realized exactly what the statement "butterflies in your stomach" meant.  Needless to say, despite disliking Calculus, she began to look forward to her weekly tutoring sessions.

Your first impression of them and way you treat them:

  • Sungyeol - Taehee's first impression of Sungyeol was that he was a no-good prankster.  She treated him like he was an enemy and always made sure to keep an eye out for him and his pranks; she also made sure to keep an eye on him so that she could find opportunities to prank him back.
  • Dongwoo - Taehee's first impression of Dongwoo was a cheesy one; she thought his smile was like sunshine, warm and wonderful.  She figured something must have been wrong for her to think such weird thoughts, so she avoided him in the school hallways and only interacted with him during dance practice.
  • Onew - Taehee's first impression of Onew was that he was quite the gentleman.  As straight-forward as she is, she began seeking him out outside of the tutoring sessions too; she would hope for minute glimpses of her favorite upperclassman.  Eventually, however, she noticed that Onew was ridiculously polite to just about every single female in the school...  And Taehee's feelings would die down - for a while, anyways.

Their first impression of you and way they treat you:

  • Sungyeol - Sungyeol's first impression of Taehee was that she was nothing more than a flat-chested chick who was vying for the title of "choding" too.  Due to this fact, he constantly picked on her.  He'd make fun of her short stature and she'd make a lame comeback about his tall height.  Needless to say, he treated her like nothing more than a little kid, a plaything, if you will.
  • Dongwoo - Dongwoo's first impression of Taehee was that she was actually kind of adorable (and he'd confide this in Hoya later, who'd look at him with a bemused expression), but why was she avoiding him during school hours?  Dongwoo never questioned it, however, and he'd simply look forward to seeing this interesting tomboy appear at dance practice every so often.
  • Onew - Onew's first impression of Taehee was that she could probably be a really pretty girl if she put on some make up and grew out her hair; however, there was something about her current appearance that was still attractive in his eyes.  It was this odd attraction that made him fascinated by her, and it also made him notice her odd habits and quirks - like why does she finger-tut so much?

Requests?: Partnered up for a science project (this doesn't apply to Onew, haha), accidental first kiss, sudden possessive-ness, etc...  I don't really know, haha, it's up to you! :D

Rival(s): Soyou (Sistar) - Cold towards girls, but cheerful around guys. Obsessed over her long hair. Taehee and Soyou become rivals because they both share the same love interest. Also, Soyou finds Taehee's panual nature a bit off-putting.

OMG Almost done!! *dies*

Extras: Can I request a dance team/club? ^^

Why do you want to be / should be chosen?: I want to be chosen because I just love the whole idea of your story (like I said, it was the intro relating to Death Note that caught my eye initially).  And any person who's a fan of Alodia must be an awesome person, hahaha.  I think I should be chosen, however, because I promise I'll leave the most awesome comments ever! \O/
