Characters and stuff.

Characters.

Maybe I'm taking this too seriously. These are 'just' fan fics, right? None of these are ever going to win Pulitzer Prizes. But the deal is, I am a reader. I am an AVID reader. I LOVE good stories. And you(this is a general 'you') may have a wonderful story in mind, but I will never be able to read it because I can't get past the grammar/spelling, exasperating characters, brain numbing descriptions, cringe worthy dialogue and nauseating amount of plot twists.

First things first. Characters. What is the point of writing a story if you don't have characters? Even better, what is the point if your characters AREN'T characters? What do I mean by that? When your 'character' is just a name and a voice in the dialogue. Let me explain.

I personally prefer OC fics, but only if the original character is an ORIGINAL character. I want you to come up with a new person. Name, age, birthday, back story, flaws, quirks, pet peeves, bad habits--a CHARACTER! Someone that I can identify with, and preferably, someone that I would want to share a glass of wine with.

I want the character to grow and change as the story progresses. Who are they at the beginning? Who are they at the time of whatever conflict that happens(there MUST be some conflict because otherwise, why bother?)? Who are they at the end of the story? If you can't answer these questions about your own characters, these creations of your own mind, then you probably shouldn't have started writing a story. What's the point?

These are fanfics, so we 'know' one of the characters already. Unless you're writing AU, and if you are, you should probably say that in the description. Descriptions. Since I mentioned them, they are important, people. If you can't tell me what your story is about, why should I read it?

Back to our oppas and noonas. We fans have a feel for who we are reading about. We see them on variety shows, follow them on twitter, etc. We have a feel for them. I know I usually only read fics staring people I know and like. I think that's pretty normal. So when you suddenly have our sweet oppa become some crazed lune, it puts us readers off. It takes them too far 'out of character' that we can't get into it. IMO. These Idols are not our own people, they are already people. We have not invented GD, or Kai, or Hoya, or Suga. They are people. If you want to make them unlike themselves, make it(and describe it as) an AU fic.

Side note: doesn't really bother me. The gender of the characters, for me, isn't as important as the characters themselves. The story is what's important. The Who. What happens? Why is any of this happening and why the hell should I keep reading? How are you going to resolve all of this?

Before you start writing, keep those things in mind.

On to the next.

maybe some of the authors want to change the personality of their idol and see what would happen :) also, everyone has a different point of view. For example, Jun.K - some people may think he is a sweetheart and other people not. They may think he is an ignorant idiot who doesn't know how to be humble.... it all depends on the reader :) but I got your point :D Also, I somehow like to read fan fictions with horrible grammar, just to train myself in editing and grammar [yeah, I can edit, but not my own work .-.] for you being a native speaker, it is a bother :)
oh, this is not meant to be offensive.... I am just sharing my opinion :)
