Ethnicity: Fully Korean though raised in a Chinese household

Height: 5' 4"

Speciality: Hwa Young (or better known as her American name, Phoebe) has an eye for detail, and she knows when something is out of place and out of touch with reality, thus going in and manipulating the situation so that it'd be in her favor. Having dealt with evil and malicious spirits all throughout her life, she knows, now, how to get them to let their guard down, thus having them momentarily weakened to force them out of existence.

History:

Though Korean, Hwa Young was raised in a Chinese household. At the young age of three, her mother decided that the household that she was being raised in was not suitable for a girl her age, completely unhealthy, and the only thing that she could do to ensure her daughter would have a better life was to give her up for adoption, a closed adoption so that the choice wouldn't hurt her more. She completely cut all ties with the young girl who, innocently, took her mother's words that she'd be back for her one day, yet, that day never arrived. Though she foolishly waited for her mother, constantly being picked on by the other orphan children for believing that her mother was coming back for her again, she knew that all hope would not be lost. But with the two years she'd spent at the orphanage, she was sure that her mother wasn't coming back. She'd disallowed anyone to adopt her with the reason that her mother was coming back on day, but that resolve faded and, finally, the time had come for her to be adopted. On a mission with their church, the Qián's decided to go through the orphanage and work with the children, thus stumbling across the quiet, polite child whom looked saddened yet tried to hide it. Though they knew that their trip wasn't specifically made to adopt a child, they made the immediate decision to take the girl home. They were not able to have a child of their own, so, bringing Hwa Young would seal the couple's fate together and create a family environment for them all. It was an adjustment that they all were going to make together--an adjustment that Hwa Young was ready to make. Hwa Young never revealed to them, though, a secret about herself that she was fearful would cause the Qián's to change their perspective of her...for Hwa Young could see and talk to the dead. It was something she wanted to hide from them--something she knew would separate her from finally having a family if she revealed, so, for many years growing up with them, she kept silent.

Life with the Qiān's was actually better than the young girl could predict. Not having a child of their own, they wanted to give Hwa Young the type of life that they believed that a "child" of theirs deserved. They showed her off to her friends and family, wanting the girl to feel like she was welcomed in their own, and of course, she was. Hwa Young was beginning to open up more, too. She talked more, laughed more, played more, and interacted with her new family more. She no longer felt like an outcast, or the girl who wasn't wanted even by her own mother--it seemed that her problems had ended, too, with seeing and hearing the dead all around her. That is, until tragedy struck the Qiān's. When Hwa Young's adoptive grandmother passed away, it was then that she visited her granddaughter in an attempt to get Hwa Young to admit to her parents of her unique power. Afraid of what they'd say and do, the girl ignored her grandmother, refusing to oblige to the dead elder's wishes--thus causing the woman to frequent her in dreams and her everyday life. It got to the point that she actually snapped, loudly, at the dinner table towards her dead grandmother stating, "Grandmother, please, leave me alone! Cross over already!" The girl, soon after realizing where she'd said that, knew it was time to admit to them her unnatural gift. At the age of ten, she finally came clean, having spent five years with them, she knew that she had to tell them of what she'd been going through all of her life. Surprisingly, though, they told her that they knew something had been going on with her, conflicting the girl since the first day they laid eyes on her in the orphanage and that her deceased grandmother had mentioned that she believed Hwa Young to possess a mighty gift. Wanting to help the young girl, her 'parents' heard of a woman who was visiting the States and opted to contact her. In doing so, the woman known as Wei, arrived on the doorstep, her presence envoking both power, yet gentleness came from her as well. They proceeded to tell her about their daughter's gift and when Wei silenced them, she called for the girl to have one-on-one time with her. Not telling her much at first, Wei decided to frequent the home during her trip to that particular town to get the girl to open up to her. Finally feeling relaxed around her, Hwa Young proceeded to tell the woman that she was being followed by beings whom wanted to cause pain or harm to others. Very rarely was she visited by gentle spirits. The only gentle spirit that came to her was her grandmother in an attempt to get her to come clean about her ability to seek help. She, too, expressed how she believed that her birth mother gave her up in an effort to help her, having believed that her environment was what was causing such harm to her daughter. Wei knew that the only way to get the girl the help she so desperately needed was for her to follow her back home to an academy to train her abilities and make her stronger for something greater that she refused to tell anyone of. Her parents didn't want Hwa Young to go, not after everything she'd been through, they feared losing her, she was their only child...they were her parents. But, Hwa Young was the one who wanted to go, and that she did.

The academy, to her, seemed much like the orphanage. Young children who seemed either lost or scared in their surroundings, some who had no one or someone waiting for them. Many were afraid of their power, afraid of things they could see and hear yet could do relatively nothing about. It seemed like a place that Hwa Young felt unsure of, but Wei assured the child that everything would be alright so long as she learned to sharpen her abilities and 'fight' off these beings that could be of harm to those who were unable to do so themselves. The girl truly doubted her own abilities, especially after being viciously attacked by one of those beings, leaving her permanately scarred on the right side of her body, across her ribcage. She saw it as a means to grow stronger. Besides, it was better that she be the one who felt such a stringing blow rather than someone who couldn't see the creature coming, right?

The girl maintained her residency in the academy with Wei and the others around her. She could honestly say she made some 'friends', but she did miss home, so, when she was able to, with Wei's approval, she went back home to spend some time with her family and attempt to lead a normal life. Heading back to the States, the girl got a job in a clothing store, her passion since she was a young girl, finally able to help people style themselves. Fashion had become her life, and thus, the girl lived a full year gaining popularity through the fashion world, becoming both a fashion stylist and fashion blogger. It allowed her to travel to different places in the country, frequent fashion shows, and become both an ambassador and representer of different clothing sites. The girl had become so busy, yet was making a life for herself and her parents. All of that was immediately put on the back burner when she'd received word from Wei that she was needed...beings were making an attempt to cause chaos, destruction, and mayhem--an attempt to make their presence known to even those that could not see or hear them. It was an assignment she was willing to take. Wei had done so much for her in all of those years she'd spent with her--she would be damn foolish to decline. Kissing her parents goodbye and promising them she'd return, Hwa Young updated her fashion blog to 'Hiatus' and proceeded to race against the clock to meet Wei and the others back where she was needed....

Personality:

Many would believe the girl to have had a tough life, what losing her mother by being placed in an orphanage from a young age and helplessly waiting for her and all, yet, Hwa Young, better known as Phoebe, would beg to differ. In fact, she would like to thank her adoptive parents for the woman that she is today--a woman who is strong and confident, who knows exactly what she wants in life, and knows that she shouldn't allow anything to bring her spirits down. Of course, before all that, the girl was distant, an introvert. She was afraid that if she became close to anyone, those evil, haunting, malicious beings would try to hurt them like they'd almost done her birth mother. She already thought that she was cursed, she didn't want to drag anyone else into the mix, therefore, when the children at the orphanage labeled her as an outcast, she gratefully accepted their words, believing things to be better that way. With every passing moment those things were surrounding her, she was becoming both overpowered and overwhelmed. She was sure that if she turned everyone away from her, she'd be able to grow of age in the orphanage and live out her entire life alone, but when the Qián's came into the picture, it all changed.

Through everything, Phoebe became a strong individual, battling both a normal life and a tormented life. She didn't know, but all along it was her own special power, her resilient mind that kept her parents safe from harm. She was braver than usual, knowing that she was what separated people from life or death at the hands of the creatures, though she did feel that if she failed...all hope would be lost. A brave front on the outside, the girl was fearful of becoming too weak and causing everything that she'd worked so hard to protect become dangered by these creatures. She knew that she had to remain observant, watchful, because they were always lurking everywhere. She was cautious, curious, wondering where these beings were and if there was ever a safe place for her to roam without being followed or her family threatened. Wei had often times warned the girl that it was not wise to seek out where those evil spirits were, because it would pose serious danger if she did so when she had yet to hone her true gift. She had somewhat become paranoid, yet she was trying to remain calm and maintain a level head. Often times finding herself trying to reason with the spirits that chased her, she talked to herself (or as the outside world would see it as). A talkative girl, as some would say, because she always had something to say. Her parents made a point to joke with her about not truly talking much as a child and finally finding an environment that enabled her to express the intermost thoughts of her mind. She, too, believed that to be very true, indeed.

When meeting new people, Phoebe offers a gentle smile, first impressions are, of course, important. She doesn't want to leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth, but as far as getting close to someone, well, the girl would rather not. Though things seemed to have been going well with her adoptive family, being close to them yet having them feel no harm from those beings was something she thought to be a coincidence. She didn't think that the spirits would be as 'lenient' with people whom she'd attempt to befriend as they were with her parents, thus, the girl has yet to have someone she could truly consider a real friend (aside from her mouthy, heavily-opinionated grandmother who frequents her though she is supposed to have been at rest by now).

  • Grapes and Cheese: combining the two flavors together for an extraordinary taste that sends her tastebuds on a wild frenzy

  • Compositions: nothing eases her mind or calms her spirit like that of a composition by none other than Nobuo Uematsu

Dislikes:

  • Aggression: having dealt with aggressive spirits throughout her life, she refuses to take it from a human being
  • Foul odors: curse her over-sensitive nose
  • Traditional pets: she dares to be different in both her clothing sense and her love and admiration for specific pets

Family:

Qián Qichen (George) - Adoptive Father (alive) - 60 - Passionate, Artisitc, Hopeless Romantic - Never once has Phoebe seen such a true definition of a man. George is passionate about his family, creative and artistic, and a hopeless romantic in honoring, respecting, and loving his wife dearly. A man whom Phoebe both loves and respects, very much close to Phoebe.

Qián Chu-Hua (Ana) - Adoptive Mother (alive) - 54 - Considerate, Nurturing, Opinionated - Though many would assume that George was the one to run the household, it was, in fact, Ana. A woman who commanded respect simply with her presence, though she was a humble, considerate, nurturing, opininated woman. She was, of course, the one who wanted to adopt Phoebe, and whatever Ana wants, Ana gets. Extremely close with Phoebe.

Qián  Déshèng - Adoptive Grandfather (deceased) - died at 70, would be 94 today - Calm, Respectable, Traditional - Phoebe heard many great stories of her grandfather whom was a skilled archery man back in the war in China. Somewhere along the line, he died, suffering many illnessess. Was said to had loved Phoebe had he gotten the chance to meet her. Died before she was adopted into the family.

Qián Dao-ming - Adoptive Grandmother (deceased) - died at 76, would be 90 today - Outspoken, Traditional, Talkative - A woman of many words, opinionated, and let people know how she was feeling. She commanded respect in many ways, such as blatantly letting people know to respect her as an elder. Though relatively old when Phoebe came into the family, she treated her as though she was birthed into the family. Was closest to Phoebe than anyone else in the home.

Bell Pepper - Phoebe's pet snake - 2 - Gentle, Needy, Sensitive - An albino Boa Constrictor whom Phoebe loves to death. The creature is very gentle, despite being a dangerous reptile, craves attention, and is both sensitive to light and touches. He knows when Phoebe enters the room, thus seeks her whenever she's around or away. Very close to Phoebe, of course.

Park Eun Sun - Biological Mother - 48 - Introvert, Shy, Gulliable - A woman who believed that if she settle for something, she would receive great outcomes, yet that was not the case, thus leaving her alone to fend for herself and her young daughter, whom she later gave up for adoption for fear of being labeled the mother of a crazy, mentally insane daughter. Lost contact with Hwa Young (Phoebe) when she dropped her off at the orphanage when she was three.

Love interest:

  • Son Jaehwa (because I am going to put all of my eggs in one basket and hope that you think our characters could go well together, if not...) - 22 - Confident, Perfectionist, Borderline cocky
  • Kim Heechul - Super Junior - 30 - Standoffish, Cocky, Fearless, Diva

Requests?:

Being that Phoebe knows nothing of her mother (not remembering her) and being that she is only visited by those of the deceased, her mother could be amongst the deceased that she encounters, and with this visitation her mother could apologize for giving up on her daughter and allowing the world to be what led to her decision of giving her up. Her mother, too, could admit that she, too, possessed such a power that her daughter has and was afraid that it would only cause the girl to be hurt, thus, she needed to give her up for a chance at a better life. She could let her know how proud she is of her and go on to joke about how she's beautiful, just like her mother. Also, lastly, she could have Phoebe thank her adoptive parents on her behalf for taking her daughter in and loving her like she was unable to do.

Phoebe could potentially be the cause for her love interest, whether your character or Heechul, being brutally attacked and/or hurt by the evil spirits that follow her around. She could self blame and lose faith in her abilities and wanting to have them around her because she'd failed at protecting them like she'd promised herself, and danger had come to them...

Her love interest could catch a glimpse of the scar that Phoebe has and attempts to touch it out of concern and worry, only to be snapped at by Phoebe, yet instead of actually leaving her, they stand by her and embrace her tightly, letting her know that everything will be okay, and also promising that she would no longer withstand another battle scar with them around... (I say 'them' because I don't know which love interest she'll get)

Phoebe could be possessed, somehow, by an entity, maybe because she had let her guard down and gotten weakened, and could have, perhaps, been controlled to murder either a friend or love interest whilst they are sleeping, but she fights it off just before the blade pierces through their neck whilst they slumber. She drops the knife and thus attempts to stay far away from them, especially because she's been possessed this once, she doesn't want it to happen again...

(if chosen, I could attempt to give more - braindead at the moment)

Hmm...can you explain her ability a little bit more? I know Jaehwa attracts spirits and they attach themselves to him, hence why his household went into chaos and his parents got rid of him. Is Hwayoung also attracting spirits? Or is it that she can see them?
