Before I start, I want to highlight that this was a little bit of lightbulbing in the shower earlier today, and that it is MY OWN theory. It doesn't really mean anything.

Hey ya'll! I am known to be a bit...mong at times and spawn weird theories (this is one of them) but I do have my moments of brilliancy. Like today, let's look at Miracles of December (the song) from another angle.

The Music Video

Okay, so it shows the members being happy in the beginning and then becoming sad and solemn and moon-gazing towards the end, with the unknown long-haired skinny-legged girl walking up towards our favourite ex-ulzzang poker-face maknae, Sehun. The point of the video is to direct us into thinking that the song depicted a sad love story, that it was 'not meant to be'.

My Theory

The song doesn't talk about a couple fallen out of love, it speaks of a mother and her child. Why do I have this notion?  (I'm going for the Chinese version. Since I actually speak coherent, structured Mandarin.)

The child, now grown up, reflected on his own past doings and concluded that he was too immature. He insists that he is growing up, ready to face the world, pity his mother cannot see him in this light. He tells her that he is becoming strong, because of how she nurtured him. Now, let's think of our own parents. Have they scolded you before? Have you indignantly rebutted them back, stubbornly remaining your stand? The child does not realise his mother's good intents.

夜空下的雪花
每朵都是你的泪滴

(The snowflakes that fall from the night sky
Each one of them is your tears)

This depicts that the mother has cried for her child, which is undoubtly true for every mother out there. "What is going to happen to my child if he continues on like this?" They must think. No child has never let their parents worry before, I believe. The mother cares deeply for her child, which is why she tears for him.

Freeze time?!? Are you talking about my beloved Tao here??? O-ho.

Anyway, the child now wishes to turn back time, to stay by his mother's side again. This will happen when we grow up. Without our parents by our side, and having to face the harsh society, many of us would want nothing more than to become children again, to stay with our parents and not have a care in the world. Rent problems, unpaid bills, malicious colleagues caring about nothing but promotions, bosses who would stop at nothing to crush you beneath their boots and prevent you from climbing up the corporate ladder...how many of us would face that? How many of us can identify with that?

Aaand...he regrets. This sorrowful tone (by dear Lulu) and lyrics shows that the child wishes that he had treated his mother better. This undoubtly causes inference that his mother will never come back to him, that she had passed away. The child can no longer see his mother, or listen to her. And now he regrets.

And that's the end of my theory, I hope you don't find it silly! I was just sharing a part of my musing, of course they're singing about what they're singing about! They are appealing to the younger public, anyways.
