✦ who be that pretty face?-

Ulzzang/Model: Byeon Seo Eun
Pictures: gallery
Backup: Park Hwan Hui
Pictures: gallery
Style:

+ At home, she usually just dons some shorts and a shirt, very simple attire. If it’s cold, she’ll just wear some long sweat pants and a jacket. Most of the time, she lets her hair down, and only ever ties it up into a bun when she’s doing homework or eating.

+ At school, her attire differs. Sometimes, she’ll wear a skirt accompanied by some long-sleeved shirt. Other times, she may wear tights and put on an oversized shirt. The most important thing is that she’s comfortable in the clothing she wears, and that it isn’t too attention-grabbing. Occasionally, she’ll wear some bracelets. Her hair would be mostly left down.

+ When working, it’s common for her to just wear a shirt and put on a leather jacket along with either black jeans or tights. In order to conceal her face, she wears a mask with cat-like features drawn on it. She could be wearing a beanie or tying her hair into a loose ponytail, depending on what she wants.

+ In general, her clothes are up-to-date with the latest trends. They are mostly not very outstanding because she chooses comfort over attention. However, there are some exceptions. Her wardrobe does contain certain clothes that she doesn’t like wearing such as a body-hugging dress or a shirt which shows quite a fair bit of skin.

Extra: She has no tattoos at all, and almost no scars, except for some small ones which have stuck with her since young from childhood accidents. While on business related events, she dons a mask so that her identity wouldn’t be found out easily.

i'm just some kind of amazing.

Personality Traits: random | mischievous | happy-go-lucky | paranoid
Personality: Her randomness is what defines her. It’s the quality her real friends and family know her by. She may be watching people battle it out in a video game and turn around to ask someone, “Can you help me with my homework?” She is just that random. Hence, many people find her weird. Her mind associates things in such a way that she jumps from topic to topic really quickly. For example, she may first start off her thoughts with the image of a storm. The occasional lightning will make her think about photographs of lightning. This will then lead to thinking about the dangers of photographing in a storm. Following this, she will spout out the statistics regarding lightning strikes. Statistics is considered math, so she continues to think about her latest math assignment from school.

The cheeky side of her all came about when she was feeling bored. And as much as she wanted to just curl up and sleep, her body wouldn’t let her. Whenever she starts feeling the slightest hint of lethargy, she goes off finding someone to play with. Sometimes, she may be hiding in her room with a smirk and devising the next harmless prank. Otherwise, she’d be playing games – be it video or outdoor games or even chess – with someone else just to curb her boredom. Jin Ae is willing to do anything just to escape the terror she knows as having nothing to do.

The fickle way she carries herself, along with the fact that she just cannot sit still and stare into space, sparked her interest in psychology. She is now quite the expert on behavioural language and mentality of common people. She’s successfully trained herself to be attentive to a person’s behaviour and physical appearance. When it’s time to make connections, she tries to decipher the identity and personality that person had. Then she takes on the persona that would most likely appeal to that person. From there onwards, she just starts her spider web of manipulation. She is very careful with her words, blurting out sentences with the intent of gaining trust. She believes in gaining trust instead of just squeezing the information she wants and forgetting that person. After all, that person could be useful in the future. Sometimes, when she’s up for a challenge or just feels bored, she’d go into a café and play with other customers sitting there. This way, she is killing two birds with one stone. She will be able to hone her skills by practicing, and she can also gain a new connection to use.

One thing her classmates back in middle school disliked was how she could be a happy-go-lucky person. People might say that that is a good personality to have, but Jin Ae is much too easygoing that it’s unbeneficial for her social life. Her friends were disapproving of how she left the decisions to them, and not state her own opinion. Her parents were dissatisfied with the way she didn’t place as much importance as others do on studies. The pro of being carefree is that she needn’t make decisions, something she is always afraid of because she doesn’t want to make a regretful choice. She can leave it up to her friends and family to decide it for her. The con is that her friends decide everything for her while casually stating, “It’s Jin Ae, she won’t mind”. The con appears more often than the pro, but she would rather still continue being outrageously carefree instead of feeling anguish and grief. In middle school, she would let her friends lead her like a person ordering a dog to fetch the newspaper. Now, with Diemonds, she looks to the leader for decision making.

The one thing Jin Ae is fearful of is betrayal by her friends and family. Instead of studies, she places the utmost importance on relationships, thus the reason why this if one of her worst fears, ranking behind the horror genre. Her dreams often play out scenes where everyone she knows hates her, or they find out all her secrets and alienate her. This instilled her sense of paranoia that her friends hate her. The level of observance she’s trained herself to does not help her in the least. In fact, every miniscule action her classmates make, she thinks of how this can prove that she is hated. Even though she could try and use her skills and manipulate them to how she wants it to be, she doesn’t in fear of being the one to kick start the hatred instead of solving it.

Background: Unlike most of the rest of her gang, she wasn’t someone who lived in the dark side of Gwangju. She was actually born into a middle-class family. She didn’t have to smuggle drugs or anything, she just lived a gleeful childhood without having to worry about money or her next meal. She grew up just like any other kid, mind filled with only playing and her kitten, not even knowing about poverty or abuse. In her fourth grade of primary school, she made a friend. That friend was the only one she really befriended. Throughout that year, she was bossed around by that friend of hers. Jin Ae didn’t know it; she just did what she was told to do. She was halfway through sixth grade when she realized that her behaviour was just like that of a dog’s, she was rewarded with friendship if she followed orders.

She was immensely disgusted with herself for happily obeying orders. She told herself to not throw herself into that kind of friendship, but when middle school started, she didn’t know how to be a normal friend. And so, once again, she became a follower. During the first year of middle school, she made a lot or wrong decisions that cost of emotional hurt and regret. This continued towards the end of the first year before she resolved to let others do the decisions. She told herself that since I’m not the one making decisions, the choices others make will of course be correct. During this period, she chanced upon a psychology book. This started her growing interest in psychology and body language. Reading Sherlock Holmes and watching L in Death Note gave her a goal to be just as observant as both of them.

During second year, she started seeing her friends avoid her. They didn’t really talk much with her, but they conversed and laughed with her other friends. This made her think that her friends somehow disliked her. Jin Ae didn’t know if it was real or she was just over thinking. Then one of her initially close friends blurted out a secret of hers. She immediately saw this as betrayal and proof of their dislike towards her. So she started distancing herself from them.  A few months into the distancing act, she attended a camp. And of course, there was a campfire on the last night.

She found the flames dancing around gracefully to be a very useful source to calm her down. As she watched the flames flicker with soft assurance of hurt when provoked, she begin to just relax and disconnect from the problems she currently had. That was Jin Ae’s first few steps on the road to becoming a pyromaniac. At the end of her second year, her parents told her that they were sending her to study abroad in America at the end of the next year, and she would be staying with her aunt and uncle.

Jin Ae was excited to live and study in America. However, she didn’t expect her aunt and uncle to be missing from the house often. Her uncle often went overseas for business while her aunt was a shopaholic; she lived and thrived on shopping malls. Hence, she didn’t have to resort to running away from home to relieve the desperate need of being alone. She was enrolled in a nearby high school, after going through a grueling course of learning English. When she wasn’t at work, she would be found at a café enjoying some coffee and watching people. Often, she would use her skills and this led her to gaining quite a fair range of connections, from lawyers to drug-dealers to teachers. Besides that, she also started working at quite a large bookstore. While working, she came across many books which captured her interest and refused to let go until she digested the information.

Although she had the habit of researching and storing information about whatever she was fascinated by, this wasn’t the case for some of her subjects at school. She got straight As, so her parents didn’t really nag Jin Ae about it. She didn’t have the friendship problem in America, because she didn’t really befriend them. Still, she conversed and gossiped with them. This was all for the sake of finding out the slightest hint that somebody hated her and getting rid of it as swiftly as possible.

Once, she was feeling utterly bored and went people-watching. She decided to challenge herself by getting a random customer at the café to tell her about his life. That customer was recalling his best prank during his high school life when he told her that Diemond could use someone like her, someone who had the ability to make people confess their secrets. He set up another appointment the following day at the same café. The next day, she saw the same guy come in with two other females. They told her to try and get information on a customer they chose. Seeing as she was presented a challenge, she went for it.

Hook, line, sinker. The female customer they chose grabbed the bait Jin Ae threw and told her inside information on a homicide case the police were working on. The two females were quite intrigued and impressed by this information and decided to recruit her. She was told that they were the mastermind and the hacker, part of a gang, and that if she wanted to join, she would be first placed on something like a probation period. Jin Ae took up the offer, interested in how the gang was like a family and was very loyal to the mastermind. She was attracted to the loyalty, to the fact that there would be people you could trust entirely without having to be betrayed.

During the probation period, she was ordered to get as much information about certain drug deals from people they set her to meet with. She was successful in her attempts, and was given a spot in Diemonds. The mastermind told her that she would be the one in charge of connections, so she had to have as much knowledge as possible about drugs, weapons and their allies. Not wanting to disappoint her leader, and in her mind, risk getting thrown away, she made use of her connections to attain the information.

✦ ugh, it's that stupid Intrepid boy

Name: Oh Se Hun
Age & Birthdate: 19 | 12th April 1994
Nicknames:

Hunnie or just Hun | short form of his name

Mr Player | even though he isn't really a player, she calls him that to remind him of the fact that he has many girls falling head over heels in love with him

Personality Traits4D | shy | reserved | mischievous | sharp-witted | inferiority complex
Personality: He is a really unique person, in terms of who he is. He interprets things in a different manner from others and his heart changes quickly. One moment he may be smiling at you; the next, he may be trying to freeze a tree with his glare. His personality is almost as random as Jin Ae’s; you never know what he may do next. That’s why certain people aren’t comfortable around him; they don’t know how to handle the surprises.

At first introductions, his demeanor is awfully shy. He doesn’t say much and just stands there and tries to avoid looking at people. He isn’t good with people, he’s interactions are, at first, very awkward. It causes people to want to stay away from him because the atmosphere around them is just so stiff. However, once past the first few suffocating interactions, he shows himself to resemble a coin with two sides to his personality.

On one side of the coin, he is reserved. He doesn’t talk much and would rather be left alone in silence to do whatever he wants. He would converse if he had to, but if he doesn’t have to, he won’t. This situation occurs with his friends too, he wouldn’t befriend someone if he doesn’t need to. Surprisingly, he can’t handle human interactions. On the other side of the coin, he becomes a very impish person. He would pull pranks on his friends, and he would fool around. At the worst, he would become the pesky devil everyone was annoyed at. Usually though, he’d just be teasing his friends about all sorts of things. But other than those actions, he has little to no idea on what to do with his friends.

Unexpectedly, he is an immensely mentally keen person. It was also this special trait, among others, that gave him his job. Accompanied with his great observing skills, he is generally the first one to figure things out. He doesn’t take credit for this though, when he receives a compliment, he doesn’t know how to react.  He says it’s all luck and he believes it to be just luck that he pieces everything together first. This excuse comes from his inferiority complex. He sees people joyously making friends, and it makes him feel and wholly believe that he is secondary.

Background: Se Hun migrated to America when he was just a toddler and grew up with a policeman for his father, and a journalist as his mother. Since young, his father trained him in expectation that he would join the police force. He was expected to be that fastest in running and get the highest scores in tests in school. He lived up to expectations and his father was quite proud of him. However, jealously arose quite quickly in the hearts of children. So he was badmouthed a lot for being a ‘nerd’ and for ‘taking steroids’. This caused him to develop an inferiority complex.

The very moment he was allowed, he signed up for the police force and was successful, much to his father’s joy and pride. With his great performance in solving crimes and apprehending criminals, he rose in popularity and respect. Very soon, he was asked to join Intrepids.

Relationship Status: At first, they're just good friends. Later, they begin crushing on each other.

Fate is deadly: While on the way back home, she spots him strolling along the same street with a few books in his hands. One of them is a copy of A Study in Scarlet, the first of the Sherlock Holmes series. She grows excited at the aspect of someone else being a fan of her idol. Accompanied by the want of further knowledge on the psychology of males, she goes forward to introduce herself.

At first, he feels startled because a random stranger just came up to him and said, “Hi, I’m Jin Ae. Do you like Sherlock Holmes too?” He slowly nods his head and replies that his friend recommended that book. She sees his awkward actions and thus, starts chatting with him about almost everything under the sun to get past the awkwardness. He begins to relax but is still quite apprehensive of her. Slowly,  he begins to engage in the conversation with his occasional comments.

During that first meeting, she told him that she is very friendly and is able to befriend almost everybody. This sparks a hint of curiosity on how she can do that so he asks her to demonstrate it once for him to see. She complies and that day, she earned another connection with a job in the gaming industry. Seeing is believing, and that curiosity grew even larger. Even his friends weren’t able to just walk up to a random stranger and be good buddies a few minutes later. Driven by the motive of finding out everything about this stranger yet super friendly girl, he gives her his number and arranges another meeting a few days later to which she of course, agrees.

As time went by, they met quite often to just talk at either the café or while walking along the streets. While chatting with each other, he has repeatedly dropped hints of his job as an Intrepid. She grew suspicious and tries to get him to say whether or not he’s an Intrepid. A few times, her attempts at manipulation failed with him brushing away the questions. But at the end, she was quite, if not definitely, sure that he worked for the police as an Intrepid. He was supposed to be just another friend, but now he’s a potentially lethal enemy.

She doesn’t know what to do. She wants to still be friends with him; yet being near him is dangerous and risky. Should she start avoiding him? Or should she just act like nothing happened? A part of her is afraid that he would hate her and alienate her like the plague. Another part of her is scared that Diemonds might betray her if she continued the relationship between him and her. Eventually, after pondering over it for a few days, she turns to the mastermind for help, in hope that she’ll make a decision for her, if not give some advice.

The mastermind suggests for her to carry on with their friendship. They’re taking a gamble here, trying to get inside information on Intrepid through Se Hun. It’s quite risky but she believes in the leader’s decision. As the two get closer through their meetings, they eventually develop crushes on the other. He doesn’t realize he likes her because he isn’t good at interactions and believes the reason why he hearts stop for a second there when she smiles is quite normal. She knows that fluttering feeling whenever she sees him is because she likes him, but no, she can’t like him because he’s an Intrepid.

Later, Intrepid is assigned an illegal drug business. They sabotage one of the drug deals and the criminals back to the cells. His interrogation of one of the higher-ups is fruitful. They were able to get hold of another major drug dealing and intel that one of Diemonds, Neko, would be there. Once again, they crash into the meeting. Only this time, Jin Ae is there checking up on the drugs. The instant Intrepid made themselves known, everyone scrambled away with their drugs and cash. The others chased after various crooks, he chased after the female with a cat-like mask.

Being someone who was trained to his limits, he was faster than her. He managed to catch up to her in almost no time and force her to a wall to prevent her from escaping. Without another second to lose, his rips the mask off her. He is stunned to find her, instead of some other female who he would gladly put behind bars for justice. But no, it’s her. He can’t just obediently lock her up. While he’s trying to get over the fact that she is in Diemonds, she’s fervently trying to see if any hatred or disgust would be in his eyes.

He demands, “Why?” and she is taken aback for he has never used that kind of voice before. She momentarily feels both scared of him, and fear of losing him. Over and over, she whispers apologies while crying. They’re both just standing there, his hands holding hers above her head, when the action comes. She starts fighting him to get him away from her so that they can escape. Still quite stunned, he gets hit in the back and becomes unconscious.

✦ well played, criminal.

Describe your relationship with your love interest. How's it going so far?
He’s very interesting and I like that. I love our meetings because we get to just talk to each other about almost anything. He’s like my confidante; I can tell him certain secrets but not all. His little lisp is just so freaking adorable! I really really enjoy the times we’re together, and sometimes I think of how we would be like if we were just normal teens going to school...

Why do you like your love interest?
Well, his personality, I guess. It’s very unique. Besides, he is so fun to be with, especially when he becomes mischievous! I actually can’t believe that that stern father of his is fine with his pranks.

How has being in the gang affected your life?
It made my life so much happier! There was finally someone who I could trust, and Diemond has 5 of them! I don’t know how I would be like if I hadn’t joined them... Diemond gave me my friends, one of the most important things in my life because friends are family.

What will you do if your love interest finds out you're in the Diemonds?
I don’t know. I seriously don’t. I haven’t thought about that. Meow...

What if your love interest has been lying to you? What will you do?
I’d probably just stop communicating with him. After I told him so many things about me, him lying would be betraying me. I cannot accept that.
