Background: Yaeji was born in Santa Barbara, California, to a Vietnamese nurse and a Korean neurosurgeon. She was the only girl, and last of their three children. Her brothers, mischevious twins, were five years older than she was and always picked on her. Yaeji didn't care, because all she had to do was cry, "Mommy! Daddy!" And they'd be running to her side. When she was eight, she was enrolled in every possible class there was, so she could figure out her passion. She found that she enjoyed singing and acting, so they dropped her out of the other classes and let her focus soley on those two. She was a rather popular girl at school; not the popular queen bee, but she had plenty of friends. However, when her grandparents fell sick, her dad decided to relocate them to Seoul so they could care for them. They moved when she was 14, during the summer before her highschool year.
In Seoul, it was incredibly hard for her to adjust, because of the hard studying and how behind she was (South Korea taught much higher math than the average American highschool). She felt depressed and dejected, and most of the acting and singing she did was sad and melodramatic. Her parents couldn't stand to see her so stressed, so they pulled her from highschool and taught her at home. When she was sixteen, she decided to try out for a role in a drama, and got in. Yaeji focused a lot in her acting and decided she wanted to be an idol. She acted in a few cfs and minor roles in dramas before trying out for several companies. She finally got into SM her fourth try.
Personalities: Yaeji is very emotional and childish. If she's happy, she'll jump round and squeal and smile a lot. If she's mad, she'll talk to you in a flat, unamused tone, and she's sad, tears will be b in her eyes. She hates being told she's wrong, and will often tell an excuse when she's wrong. She's highly energetic and loves to talk and joke around. She can take being the of a joke, but she is a bit insecure. Jiji doesn't like feeling like she's being left behind or that she's unworthy, and tries to prove herself a lot. Because of her two older brothers, she does have a but of a potty mouth, and will unconsciously let some swears slip occasionally. She's a bit blunt as well, but she'll say it in a way that you'll never know if she's joking or serious. Around people she wants to impress, however, she'll act shy and innocent and obediant...until, sometime later, she gets comfortable around them.

However, Yaeji did have a crush on her for a little while. They act friendly and cheerful around each other, but are kind of awkward. Yaeji has a slight crush on her again, but feels bad because she likes two people that she thinks will never like her back. Jiyeon is completely straight, but likes skinship, so she is unknowingly leading Yaeji on a little.

Trainee life: During her trainee years, she had some trouble talking to people because she was only semi-fluent in Korean. However, she worked hard and eventually was able to learn more Korean and talk more. One of her weak points was her dancing, so she worked hard on that. She also couldn't stand having to exercise so much (she hated p.e. with a burning passion), but did it anyway because of her dream. Jiji cried a lot during her trainee years, because she would sometimes doubt that she'd end up in a group. Her voice also needed to be trained as well, because she didn't have the best control when she first started. However, things got better and her ear for notes improved as well.
