Weight Discrimination. (Yeah, another rant)

Okay so.

...

I'm probably going to be offending A LOT of people with this blog post, and if I do then sorry in advance, but I am SO SICK of people beating around the bush when it gets down to this.

You're probably wondering what the I'm on about.

I'll tell you what.

And it starts with a confession.

.

.

.

Okay so.

I love Kpop. Don't get me wrong, I love it in every way possible. The music they produce, the earnesty of their culture and the ever so intresting traditions as compared to others. I love to drool over the idols abs at 3 am and scream in delight when my favourite girl group secret declares a comeback. I love the humour the reality shows have and the brutal honesty some groups have against another. I love the idea of shipping two members, and I love the almost-kisses.

.

.

.

Having said that, I must admit to one thing though:

There is a part of Kpop which I don't like. I never have, and I never will.

tumblr_mryj34hita1sgq25do1_500.gif

I know. And I'm sorry.

But here it is:

Kpop has a sense of perfection.

In spefic, the appearnce of their groups.

More spefically, their weight.

Now this perfection that I'm on about DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BAD. I love it when Girl groups almost look like dolls because they are so DARN cute. :3 And the whole "aeygo" thing - I love it too.

But sometimes they go too far.

This is where the idea of weight comes in.

Because news-flash:

You don't have to look perfect in order to look good.

I have yet to see a female idol which doesn't look model thin. And no, going up 3 pounds isn't "gaining" anything. They look good, THEY really do - and only very few that I can think of look ill.

Now, I understand that being thin adds on to how "pretty" one is, and can promote a group in their success and so on.

But now... It almost feels like its a downright REQUIREMENT that all (mostly female) idols need to be thin. And if one idol isn't, they get hate!

It's so STUPID. I feel like screaming, ripping of my hair and setting fire on a forest. Exaggeration? NO!

You can't judge someone for their weight. If you must judge, then aim it for their talent. Thats the only thing, as a fan, you should care about at all.

Women are biologically designed to carry BABIES - Extra fat is GOOD for us. I personally respect an idol which puts up with the hate in order to look HEALTHY.

And what REALLY pisses me off is the effect that it has on the fans! Honestly, how many of you guys have sat there looking at a girl group and thinking: "Damn, I want those legs and that stomach."

Because here's what everybody doesn't realize:

Whispers: Not all of us look like that. Not all of us are born to be models.

Oh she went there.

Yes I did.

I'm not blaming kpop for any of this - there are LOADS of other factors contributing to it. Other music industries, magazines, food businesses, brands and GOD knows what else.

But  I feel sad knowing that Kpop is within that. I don't think they mean to kind of support this "weight discrimination" as I call it. But in my opinion, seeing as I'm entitled to it, I feel like they are. Subconsiously, that is.

Point of post?

You don't have to look like them to still be pretty. I'm betting most of you guys already know that, but its TRUE. There's a difference between being 'lean' (exercise like a beast and eat like a horse. Me, basically) and 'thin'.

And lean looks better.

I'm not model thin, and I know it. I go on allkpop sometimes and sees "____ reveals how she/he lost so much weight!" and i just feel like crying.

And I suppose that if I followed their tips, and cut down on my food intake and increase my exercise even more, maybe started using the hula hoop as I brushed my teeth then, yes, I probably would loose a few myself.

But I don't.

Because its just. not. worth. it.

You're more than just the number on the scale.

There's more to life than fitting size 0's.

Okay I think I'm done now.

Sorry If I offended anyone I just feel... so sad, really.

Weightism is increasing. And I don't like it. simple as.

Just to make it clear I dont intend to start anything nor is this me trying to seek attention. I just wanna speak something different from the media for once. I understand if you dont agree - But you don't have to.

And just to show you what I mean, as a picuture can apperently speak more than 1000 words:

Yeah I'm done.

Love you all <3

I completely agree with everything you said, I personally don't like see idols soooo thin as anorexic people, they look bad not even attractive, male and female, I know for them that means beautiful, but to me is.... just to much, I'm latina after all.
You right, I can't get used this part of kpop, they looks like if everyone has 13 years even when they are adults, so sad and to me, ugly :(

True that. I actually tend to like girls who are on the leaner side, then they become my bias. It's just weird to see stick thin (in their POV, pretty) idols dancing hardcore, cute or provocative dance moves. It's kind of tabboo to say this, but that , I'm gonna say it, but they kinda support being anorexic and bulimic. People might say that I'm jumping to conclusions, but let's be real here, you don't see people who have bodies like some girl-group kpop idols around every corner. But I think they base this of on how Koreans think and not on how international fans think, since their definition (in Korea) of being pretty is someone who has long hair, someone tall, thin and he or she should have q milky white, and fair complexion. And since kpop is spreading, people tend to get influenced by how they view being pretty. Which I feel is a load of bull. Since I can barely fit into a size 0 (and I know I might rip the piece of clothing to shreds if I force myself into one) and I'm not that tall and I don't have a great complexion either, but I have confidence in my brains and personality. Which I think they should also look into, since some idols may have the perfect figure or they might have a pretty face, but have a ty personality. (Lol, sorry for the rant.)

I agree with you and one thing to add its not just kpop its all Korea too. A lot of their culture is based on beauty. So you can see why idols make such ab effort to stay thin. But i agree with you they should be a bit more open minded about topics like these.

Well said! And yes it did need to be said. Especially when you hear about idols (Kangin) telling people to NOT follow their example or when you hear about one member telling another to stop dieting and eat healthier (Lay to Xiumin) It makes me sad!
