This Love Dance Version MV Analysis.

I've watched the This Love Dance Version MV for about more than 10 times in a row now (maybe closer to around 22 actually; I can never get tired of the song and dance!), and I just want to share things that I've observed and concluded from watching it.

Ranking, in terms of gayness factor (1 is the most gay) -This is also explained throughout the post as I analyze each member

1. ERIC. I think we're all pretty unanimous on this one.

2. Hyesung.

3. Minwoo

4. Jun Jin, Dongwan

5. Andy

Observations: First off, the style of their dancing. I've watched the MV multiple times and each time, I focus on just one member. I noticed that as I compare all of their dancing styles and 'poses', as I would call it (I can really hardly call it dancing; popping, maybe, but there's just not enough movement, especially with the lively beat of the music, to call it dancing xD), their moves definitely reflect their personality.

The reason I say this is because while they have a choreographer, their individual personalities still peek through the styles of their poses and the way they were executed. Take Jun Jin for example. He's known to be "Junstin" during the early 2000s, for his similarity in dancing style with Justin Timberlake. The whole popping of joints and elaborate 'dusting off the jacket' affair (For reference, see the Venus Dance Version MV, around the 1:19 mark) is basically a move he coined. I swear, with all the dance battles and dance-offs and whatnot that he's performed, he always does some semblance to that type of dance xD You can see it very clearly in the This Love dance too, around the 0:15 mark. That, and I've noticed that out of all the members, he had the hardest dance step for the "Every time I count 1,2,3" part. At least in my opinion. And I saw that the quality of his dance and movements were a bit more manly and hardened than, let's say, Eric or Hyesung or Minwoo. Hence why he ranks pretty low on the gayness chart. Also, his moves definitely reflect that he is one of the dance machines of the group, as I thought that it's basically only him who could pull off those kinds of poses.

Dongwan... Oh god, how to say this. xD He's always been... well, it's harsh to say 'worst' (and I never thought he was the worst, oh my precious baby <3), so let's just say 'most amusing' dancer of the group. Clearly, his specialty lies with his voice xDDD His moves are fairly simple, obviously reflecting his abilities, and while they're not excessively flamboyant, they're also quite bright (of course, to the effect appropriate to the atmosphere of the MV), which also reflects his bright, happy personality. And of course, his specialty: overdance. He really overexaggerates some dance moves so much, like in the Venus Dance Ver MV, notice how the angles of his limbs are much wider than the others when it doesn't need to be so excessively wide and how he overly exaggerates every move. xD I think that's one of his endearing aspects, but while it was okay with the Venus dance since it involves a heavy routine, it does significantly reduce the coolness factor that was supposed to be the feel of the This Love MV (though all I got is the gayness factor, but whatever). Take the part where they snap and pop their shoulders/chests forward when they sing "Duguden biteoue matchugo" (2:57 mark). Notice how his shoulder/chest popping is much more exaggerated than the other's, giving it an almost comical feel. Now compare it to the way Minwoo does it, and you can really see the difference in quality. Also at the 1:34 mark, Hyesung's "Like satellites, and shooting stars" part where he waves his hands around like a fairy when he's supposed to be simulating playing a piano. Dongwan dips down waaaay too exaggerately, compared to Eric and Minwoo immediately before and after him. xD Really accentuates just how much he overdances sometimes. His manliness factor was about the same as Jun Jin's, since he didn't do anything excessively gay or fabulous (as befitting his personality).

As for Minwoo... he gives off the cool feel, but I ranked him higher than Jun Jin in the gayness factor because he does have some quite fabulous poses. As the other dance machine of the group, Minwoo definitely set the atmosphere of the whole MV. The concept is supposed to be done in a fabulous, flamboyant way, yet still exuding an air of cool, y manliness in the way that only real men can. I think Minwoo captures that perfectly, because he's always had that cool bad boy feel about him. And the way that he does his moves softly, almost as if giving the audience an impression that it isn't really that hard to do and is not putting a lot of effort on it, almost arrogant... really gives off that cool vibe. And I love his performance. In addition, his facial expressions are precious. Almost gives off that aura of manly "UHH" shout at the end of Eric's Negapass rap in SNL (in the Night in the Museum Skit), in almost a gangster, tough guy type of way. Manly all the way.

Hyesung's moves were a bit subdued, almost shy, but also exuding that "I wanna break out of my shy, little prince image" feel, hence the little (fabulous) body waves. I think his dance moves reflect his significant change in personality; if you compare the shy Hyesung of last year who would refuse to do anything that was embarrassing to the very open Hyesung of this year who just humped Yoo Se Yoon on a motorcycle, his dance moves give off that kind of feel. Kinda like the "I never thought he would do that, but he did" kind of feel. I don't know a better way to explain this; you guys all saw Hyesung's significant personality change, right? xD Just watch old episodes of Shinhwa Broadcast and compare it with SNL. You'll see. Also, at the 1:10 mark, the nananananananana part where he has the solo dance. He just has this " get outta the way, fabulous coming through" look on his face. xDDDD I love that.

As for Andy... ah. He was just the manliest in that MV, in my opinion. The kind of coolness he emanated was different from Minwoo. His is in the "You got a problem? COME AT ME BRO" kind of vibe. Like he's DARING someone to point out that he's dancing so gayly and flamboyantly. Also, I'd like to point out that while their dance moves do kind of tie up when they're all dancing together, I noticed that as I watched Andy alone, his moves seem almost... out of place. Like he's in his own world, or something (Observe him dancing around the 0:27 mark. It's almost as if he wasn't even in sync with the music, like " please I dance how I like to dance" xDDD). When you're watching them all together, you don't notice it, but when you watch him alone, it's really easily noticeable. It's almost as if the moves he's doing don't really belong with the rest of the group's. I think this reflects his shy, withdrawn personality, like on talk shows where he just sits in the corner quietly observing everyone while they talk, and just laughs by himself and stuff. I'm not saying he's an outcast in the group (we most certainly know that isn't the case at all, eh, Minwoo?), but I'm saying it reflects his personality where sometimes just wants to keep to himself and get lost in his own world where no one but himself understands him. That kind of way.

And last but not the least, Eric. I saved the best for last. HIS MOVES WERE JUST SO FLAMBOYANTLY, FABULOUSLY GAY. You all have to agree with that. His poses were akin to girl group's poses where they jut out their hips and butts so high in the air and they keep their chins up in the " please I'm more fabulous than you" kind of way and his hands and fingers are just SO delicately flicking out. And the funny thing about it is: HE GENUINELY THINKS HE LOOKS COOL DOING IT. Like, we get it Eric, your body is perfect; I can see the perfect outline of your through the pants lol. But the fact that he actually thinks that he looks oh so manly and cool while performing what could be possibly the gayest dance moves in the history of K-pop ever... is just so ridiculously amusing to me that whenever I look at him, I just burst out laughing and suddenly, the cool, manly feeling that Minwoo intended for the atmosphere of the MV completely disappears and all I see is gay. xD And I say that in the most endearing, loving way because I love Eric so much and I just think he's positively brave and amazing for undertaking such steps. And this reflects his personality: while on the outside he may appear a serious, hard to approach person because you'd think he'd be a no-nonsense, focused person, you get to know him and know that he's just the absolute dorkiest, funniest person there is. And this also reflects, I think, his sometimes dry humor. You know those people who can make you laugh SO hard and yet they themselves don't bat an eyelash? Some comedians tell you a joke, and they laugh too because they laugh at you laughing. But there are people who are so deadpan and serious that they just have this hilarious blank stare while you bawl at their joke or what they did. That kind of humor is Eric's specialty, I think. And it reflects PERFECTLY with his dance moves. Also, at the 2:47 mark, at the very start of the "every time I count 1,2,3" part. That jump was very suspiciously like one of the ballet dance moves they learned during the ballet channel (a mini jeté, if you will). xDDD

Even the way they walk away when they have to make way for a member or when they have to walk forward to perform the step. You can clearly notice (CLEARLY) the way Eric walks compared to the others. He's really immersed into his character. While Jun Jin, Dongwan, Minwoo, and Andy do manly walks, Eric and Hyesung are as fabulous as fabulous can be. LOOK AT IT. Hyesung just walks in the " outta my way, fabulous coming through" way that I mentioned before. All throughout the MV, all the walking dance steps. Watch and observe.

Also: I can't help but notice that their backup dancers are men. Why? I think it would have looked more manly if they had women as their backup dancers. Could have possibly taken away some of Eric's gayness too. But I guess Eric was too fabulous for girl dancers that they didn't even need them xDDDD

In conclusion: Eric is the most fabulous being out there and Andy turned out to be the manliest of them all. Ohhhhh yeahhhhh.

This whole review/observation was done in pure humor and endearment, because I love Shinhwa so much and I just want everyone to realize how freaking awesome and amazing they are because they would try doing something like this, something that surely only Shinhwa can ever manage to pull off. True legends, they are. If they aren't different from others, they aren't Shinhwa. Thankfully, they are, and I'll love them forever. <33333

And one last thing: Ever notice how the concept of their album clashes the concept of their song? The whole manly OOOH BOXING and OOOH WALKING AROUND IN SUITS LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS manly affair of the photobook and the I'M FABULOUS dance moves in the MV. Yeeeeah. Take that as you will.
