DIY: Kpop Hair accessories

Hi there! This is my first craft tutorial!

I’m into K-pop for the past 4 years already and one thing that fascinates me are fan hair accessories worn during gathering and concerts. I’ve always wanted to make one but I didn’t know where to get supplies. Felt was commonly used for it and I’m such a lost kid when it comes to finding things.

Anyway, one Sunday morning, my sis Jeymee and Jeydee were having art attack moment with craft foam and did tiaras out of them and sticking them to some head bands. Later that afternoon, we went to SM Megamall for Kfest (which was cancelled by the way due to the large number of crowd) and the urge to make my own accessories heightened.

We ended up buying random craft/art stuff at National Bookstore.

So here’s the final works.. accumulated from a few nights of hard work and effort.

Shall we get started?

MATERIALS

Pattern (cat ears, crown, and speech balloon)

Craft foam/sponge (thin and thick)

Plain and inexpensive head bands

Scissors and/or cutter with cutting mat

Glue gun and glue stick or tacky glue

Tweezers (optional)

Rhinestones (optional)

Glitters (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Print out or sketch the pattern. Reverse it if needed. Cat ears and crowns are popular K-pop trend. You can also use your Idol group’s logo or letters. I prefer printing them out, especially letters to make it at least even looking. But if you are artsy, go and sketch whatever you like.

Note: Infinite logos are really fun to work with (esp. the destiny logo and I can wear a hairclip version to the office without raising eye brows)

2. Trace the pattern into your craft foam using a pencil. If you are covering the design with glitters, no need to reverse the pattern. For cat ears, make sure to reverse the pattern for the other side

3. Cut the design using scissors and/or cutter. (use a cutting mat and be careful not to scratch your tables)

4. Before putting them together, see how the ears or crowns will look like on the head band first.

5. Assemble the design by applying glue on the foam and attaching them to the base. You can add as many or as little as you want.

6. Time to attach everything to the hair band. For ears, attach one at a time by applying glue on the bottom part. For crowns, cut a small strip of thin foam and attach it to the hair band by wrapping it around and leaving the edges at the top; they will look like tabs. Put glue on the tab and attach the crown.

7. If you want to add glitters: Apply glue on the design and sprinkle with glitters,. Tap of excess and leave on a flat surface over night to dry.

8. When everything’s dry, wear it and take a selca! You can attend concerts, conventions and gatherings with your one of a kind hair piece.

Here are the stuff I made…

I hope you’ll like this simple DIY and I’ll probably see you in a concert or convention someday ^^

I like the Boyfriend headband. It's so cute ^3^
Bigbang's lightsticks are crowns, I think. So VIPs could totally make a headband version of that :) I wanna make my own too!
