to new fans, this may just seem like a fairytale love song, at best, a song with an especially good melody.
but to an old fan who has genuinely loved a sunbae group, this song is pouring salt in your wounds, mercilessly making you cry.

everybody knows the ups and downs of boygroups in sm entertainment.
fans who are still in the white house (h.o.t fans), there are practically none; red house and blue house, their main body has always been changing. the old fans who have been with them since their debut gradually become silent and leave the fandom, and then new idol-chasing blood will barge right in.

why is this?

this is because those fans have all grown up.

those people who were brainwashed by sm entertainment since the idols’ debut, they have loved the deepest and the earliest.
having experienced the disintegration of groups, and problems such as members leaving one by one, they themselves have grown up too.
they have dated, loved boys in real life, hurt, experienced exams, graduated college or even university, watched the people by their side leave or change, and became more mature and sophisticated. 

things related to idols become much less important in their eyes, and no longer take up their free time.
although you might still love the complete them during debut, but people change, and the world changes with time as well.
even if the original complete group is still around, they no longer look like what they did when we first fell in love with them.

and so, that untouchable lover we had, like an angel that has flown away in a fairytale, can never come back again.

similarly, the most beautiful years of our youth, the feeling of concentrating our love on one single person at that time, can never come back again.

from exo’s debut, i just felt this sense of familiarity. the strong smp style, the feeling of ‘saving the world’ with their debut song, and that sense of mysticism all made me think back of the debut eras of the now olden sundae groups, especially h.o.t
h.o.t had a song titled ‘wolf and sheep’, which was my first thought when i first saw ‘wolf and beauty’.

the groups sm has been debuted these few years, actually have been trying different styles, such as super junior and snsd, a very big difference from their original smp style, so this time, sm really really revisited the past.

when i first heard this song, i worthlessly shed tears.
why not everyone try read the next few lines while listening to the song:

it was during my best years, i had a lover named ‘peter pan’, for some reason, he cannot come back again.

this can explain why so many old fans are going back into fandom recently.
it is almost as if the people we have loved back then have reincarnated into a more youthful version and returned to our sides.

many years later, there will be members of exo who will be enlisted into the army, some might become actors, hosts. all in all, they will all be doing their own things:
and as a fan, you will have your own lover, studies, business, family,
maybe then, you will listen to this song again, and understand how i feel right now.
maybe then, you will go to their concert, and hear them sing, “i’m your peter pan forever"

forever, how long is that?
