B.A.P "One Shot" Review

In an attempt to strengthen my writing, I've started to write short reviews of albums. These were on another blog but I'm moving them here instead.

B.A.P's One Shot is a five act theatrical play of sorts. To call it hip hop would be dismissive because it isn't hip hop, not strictly at least. It's more like someone was holding a hip hop mix, a marching band mix, and a church choir mix all in one hand before tripping and having them merge into a single cd.

It's almost impossible for me to listen to this mini without wanting to reenact You Got Served, for some reason. In my head, I break it down. Right step, left step, I do a flip, then spin on my back, etc. Of course, in real life, I'm probably just sitting there with a weird expression on my face. Even the "softer" songs, like "Rain Sound", go hard. I'll never mistake these members as being "as real as the streets" but from the desperation and edge in their voices, I can almost believe they are.

My only criticism is the fact that "Coma" could've been one of the best kpop song ever, had the entirely leaned on the intro beat set up which sounds like something that might've been sampled from a Notorious B.I.G. track. (Don't tell me you can't hear it.) Unfortunately, the chorus stomps the year on this glorious opportunity like you, good beat. you, we're going to add a half- melody here instead. R.I.P great potential.

Otherwise, this mini is great in the way that whenever I feel particularly annoyed with someone, it's my go to "drown out whatever the hell this person's saying" album.
