This is mostly for my own reference so be warned: unedited rambling with horrible grammar and runons. oh and cursing because that's what my mind does when it rambles.
But my oneshot wasn't very clear so I wanted to give it a bit more direction. Also, this is totally how I plan all my au's, except in less detail. Which makes me think this might spawn it's own universe and I'll have to take it out of A Splash of Paint (oops)

Essentially, Baekhyun is an idol but he goes to university and he's not in a group or had a comeback in a while so even though he gets attention, it's managable. He's relatively new to the industry, kind of misses his "normal" life, and his vocal chords are a bit strained and the doctor recommends he rest them for a bit (not sure if this is legit), so he figures why the hell not and decides to go to university half a world away and aim for a music major and improve his composition and such while he's here. (There's not as many saseng fans there anyway)

And Chanyeol is a music major and he's an underground rapper and his favorite feeling is the energy of rap battles when the excitement and adrenaline is almost tangible. He's good and maybe not famous, but he tries hard, and he figures that's what matters. He still has time before he can figure out if this works as a career choice after all. He thinks this is what he wants to do for the rest of his life- writing lyrics and delivering them. Chanyeol starts learning to rap when he's in elementary school because his sister loves the genre and learns to beatbox because she doesn't have any rapping talent and is just kind of awesome in encouraging him when she realizes he's curious (and then supports him when his parents thing he's a failure). While wandering the city on night, he finds himself watching a rap battle in his first year of college and he thinks this is what i want to do as he watches two guys try to tear each other to the ground with nothing but sharp and clever words. It takes him a year of watching and getting to know the guys before he actually tries- it's better that way because he knows he's good but he's not amazing yet and he knows the guy he's going up against and he loses (of course) but in a few months and after a few more rounds, he wins. By his last year of university, he's a fairly well-known rappers in the area.

Anyway, Chen and Chanyeol are friends from freshman year and that's how he meets the rest of the group and Baekhyun meets Luhan from who-knows-where in between his second and third year and they have this weird love-hate relationship because Luhan knows kpop but he only cares for DBSK and doesn't give a about Baekhyun, and Baekhyun really likes that. But Luhan's also incredibly self-absorbed so there comes the hate. And they fit in the cliques and Baekhyun grows to care for this ragtag group of twelve (although he admits he's closer to some than others) and Chanyeol's just friends with everyone, because he's this weird, socially-awkward giraffe that's also really amiable and outgoing and has this energy about them that draws people in, despite his quirkiness.

Chanyeol meets Baekhyun that same year Baekhyun meets Luhan, when he ends up in his Advanced Songwriting course and later turns up in Music Theory class as well. Their relationship starts out with Chanyeol only vaguely knowing Baekhyun's fame because of his sister's into kpop and then trying to strike up conversation, to which Baekhyun's all no way and gives him the cold shoulder because he's still under the impression that he should be this famous idol. Except later, Baekhyun starts feeling lonely because yeah, he's already started his music career, but he's still kind of naive and realizes he kind of wants friends after pushing away everyone for two years. But he's so bad at making friends in real life- not in his idol persona that he kind of screws everything up with Chanyeol. And one day he stumbles upon one of Chanyeol's rap battles and he's like wtf is this because it's so different from idol rap. And later it grows on him, but it just weirds him out a bit- so less processed and refined than what he's used to- but it also makes him intrigued in Chanyeol. And Chanyeol's always found Baekhyun incredibly attractive (okay, he he's been out of the closet long enough to be honest to himself about things like that) but he doesn't like Baekhyun's attitude at all. And he spends a lot of time on the internet because he doesn't have much of a life. and yes, he has a tumblr and maybe reblogs baekhyun sometimes when he's not reblogging rap lyrics and nature scenes and sometimes posting his own lyrics as poetry.

Somewhere along the way the two of them grow on each other and arguments become less actually argumentative and more just familiar bickering. They still argue a lot, but it isn't as cutting and it's more comforting because it's about silly things like which foods are better and how one style of music has more merit than others. And one day Baekhyun breaks down to Chanyeol about how maybe he wasn't cut out for idol life because it's so hard and Baekhyun's selfish and doesn't want to give away all his parts and he's streched so thin. But Chanyeol tells him it's okay for him to feel like this and hugs him and it's exactly what Baekhyun needs- friendship and love comes afterwards, but it's always this familiar friendship, where Chanyeol respects Baekhyun but he also treats Baekhyun like a human And eventually he doesn't reblog Baekhyun's face- just his albums and music- because he gets all of Baekhyun's face he needs in real life and he realizes that Baekhyun isn't the person he thought he was- the person he's reblogging is Baekyun, but not Baekhyun- and it's taken Chanyeol a while to realize that maybe he was expecting perfection when he first met Baekhyun, but this imperfect Baekhyun is a lot more worthwhile. In return, Baekhyun gives him support and acknowledgement (because Chanyeol's always had people telling him that what he's doing isn't real music and it's incredibly gratifying for someone who's started a successful music career and knows his about music to say what you're doing is fine. it's amazing actually.) Because Chanyeol does a lot of things, like be silly, for a bit of gratification and Baekhyun sees through that a bit at least a (knowing how to make a persona himself) and he grounds Chanyeol. Later, Baekhyun goes back to being an idol and sometimes they're in a relationship, sometimes not just because long distance is hard especially when both of them have budding careers, but throughout it all they remain friends because really what both of them need
