I am not actually a fan of Shinee but I sometimes check out their music videos and got to know them more when they endorsed Etude together with Dara.

I find their group very likeable given their spunk and adorable randomness. In fact, I grew an attachment with their maknae, Taemin, after seeing how mad his dancing skills were and he is just way too cute.

Now, talking about Onew and his recent wave of controversies, I don't think it's not much of a big deal. This  is coming from an international fan, of course. I don't know how Koreans live their lives and how they react to this kind of situation, but for me, a nearly 25 yr. old guy who smokes and rumored to be dating is nothing but humanly.

When I saw that pic of him nibbling what appears to be like a pen, an electronic cigarette came into mind right away. I am not a smoker but tons of friends does and they do it with an e-cig. They come in different forms and mostly as pens and they also refer to it as vaping. (It would be best if you google it so you'll see what it looks like and what it does.)

When I read this whole commotion, I thought it's just Onew being Lee Jinki who only wants to live his life like he wants to. I have no right to hate him for it and he is in no way obliged to please me for the rest of my life. It's his body. He can abuse it however he wants. He can date anyone he likes. He can flash his middle finger to anyone he likes.

As fans, you're supposed to be there for him. Stand by him. Let him feel that how ever messed up he is, however lacking he is, there are still people who appreciates this side of him.

When I saw this on Tumblr, "Oh my God Onew, stop smoking! Ew, who is that girl? OHMYGOD IS HE DATING HER? NOT OKAY! Leaving the fandom..." I honestly felt bad. I for one, give my all out support to my biases even if one day, they get married or get imprisoned. It's doesn't make you less of a person if someone you adore makes a mistake.

I hope people will never fail to realize that idols have their own lives to take care. It's none of our business to meddle with it. I believe that we're just here behind them to support them, not in front of them to control them.

To Onew: Stay strong and keep living! Hwaiting!
