Backround: Tai Wei was born in Wuhan, Hubei, China as the younger of a set of twins. Life was relatively normal until she was seven. Her father was a chain smoker and one night, he fell asleep with a lit cigarette in his hand. Tai Wei and her mother were out shopping for her twin's birthday present since their birthday was in a couple weeks. When they came home, there was no house left. It was a tragedy that caused Tai Wei and her mother to leave China and live with Tai Wei's grandmother in Korea.
Growing up under her mother and grandmother's care, Tai Wei became much like a boy; she was treated as such because of her strong personality. She entered in every sport she could and focused most of her time on dancing. She grew up stubborn because her grandmother told her she had to be strong to make it in the world
