personality: When you first see Kwangsun you think he’s very quiet and reserved, but kind. He can be quite shy at first, but once you get to know him he ends up being the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. He is very easygoing. He is a very good friend to have around, he will listen to you when you are sad and always gives you a helping hand when he expects nothing in return. He’ll keep your secrets and never tell a single soul unless it ends up hurting you in some way. He’s honest, but not to the point of being downright blunt and hurt people’s feelings. He is very patient and is willing to wait for others and help them. Kwangsun really values friendship, because it takes him a while to really open up to someone, he is social and talkative but that doesn’t mean he opened up to you.  He can be very stubborn at times especially when it comes to practicing music and singing the right note and pitch. He will stay practicing until he gets whatever he is trying to achieve done perfectly. He is very modest and polite; he’s just naturally kind.  He is very smart, he loves learning about new things especially about the world and geography; he loves the fact that the people on this Earth are so close, yet so far apart at the same time. Even though, he is smart he can be quite naïve and innocent. He does have his lazy days, where he just wants to snuggle in blanket and sleep.

There are times where he gets very emotional, but he hides it underneath his smile, he doesn’t want to worry others. He puts the needs of others before his.  He can be quite sensitive at times, when someone yells at him or gets a bit frustrated at him, he blames himself. background: Kwangsun was born into a young family barely starting off. He lived in Japan with his mom Kaori and his father Changsun, who met in college and a few years later decided to get married. They lived well, in an apartment but they had good jobs and there was food on the table. Everything was normal until one day, he arrived home with his dad from daycare and his mom wasn’t around he asked his father where his mother was and he just said “she went on vacation” he saw luggage next to the door and his dad said, “and we are too” and just smiled at him. A couple hours later they arrived to Daegu. They never went back to Japan. Within a year Kwangsun forgot about his mom (Kwangsun was 5 by that time).

As the years passed by everything was normal Kwangsun lived with his dad is small but nice house he would be at with his grandparents often especially when his dad had a lot of work to do. His dad and he did everything together, he would always take Kwangsun somewhere new, they even went to Seoul together, Kwangsun fell in love with the city.

By the time Kwangsun was 12, it was a horrible winter, his dad was having horrible chest pains and difficulty breathing and his asthma was acting up. His father was quickly submitted into the hospital. It turned out that he had pneumonia. He was in the hospital for quite some time; Kwangsun was right by his side (well he was on break so it didn’t matter).  He remembered telling his dad about how he had been practicing really hard on the piano and promised that when he got better (both him and his dad) he would play this song for him. A couple weeks after Kwangsun said that, his father passed away. Kwangsun arrived to the hospital right after school, he saw his grandparents in the room shedding tears, he couldn’t believe was he saw, his dad was covered with a white sheet. Kwangsun ran to the lifeless body, held his father and sobbed so loud it sounded like screaming. It was the worst day of his life. After that, he stopped playing the piano.

He moved in with his grandparents. He loves them so much and they are always there for him. With his career as a singer he wants to help them in any way shape or form.

 

school life:  Kwangsun was really smart and at the top of class. He only had a few close friends but that’s it. He wasn’t very popular. He always had his nose in a book or was practicing the violin. He had one best friend at school, and they were always together. By the time he was in middle school he was alone with no one to hang out with, not that he cared anyway, he was depressed because of what happened to his dad. He began to get bullied they only called him names though. Stuff like, “loner”, “loser”, “geek”. In high school he got over his depression and decided he was never going through that again and went back to his old happy self. He was in the top 5% of his class. Even though, he went back to his old self he didn’t have very many friends. He only opened up to one person. 
 

music career: His love for music started at an early age, his dad gave him a violin at the age of 8 and signed him up for lessons. Every day he would practice he would always have blistered fingers because of how much he practiced, his father would tell him to not push himself too hard, but Kwangsun wouldn’t listen, he too enthralled by the music. After his dad passed away he still played the violin, he probably played even more than he used to.

He didn’t find out about his vocal talents until he was 13 in music class, they had to sing a song for the school festival and there were solo parts for both a girl and a boy, and everyone had to audition for it. So, he practiced singing the solo and fell in love with singing and only thought of it as a hobby, until he auditioned and ended up getting the solo in the song, the audience loved his voice, and his music teacher told him that with a some more practice he could become a very good singer and could probably audition for a company. He didn’t really think any of it at that time but did follow his teachers instructions on practicing more on his singing.

family: Father | Yong Changsun | would be 43, 37 when he passed away {07/03} | Middle school teacher | He was Kwangsun’s idol. He was strong, tall, smart, good-looking, kind, the perfect man. They would do everything together; he was Kwangsun’s best friend. Kwangsun loved his dad with all his heart. His dad played both father and mother, since Kwangsun’s mom wasn’t in thw picture. Whenever there’s a holiday or when Kwangsun has time, he takes a bus to Gwanju and visits his grandparents and his father’s grave and puts some flowers and a paper crane on it.

Mother | Kaori Sayashi | 41 {27/08} | unknown | Kwangsun doesn’t know his mom, or remember her. He just knows that she left his father and him and is somewhere in Japan. He remembers seeing a picture of her: she was beautiful, she had light skin and rosy cheeks, she had big innocent looking eyes and silky brown hair and she was petite. She looked like a doll. He wonders what it be like if saw his mom but doesn’t think much of it because he’s not sure if he’s ready to see her, or even wants to see her.

Grandmother | Yong Sumin | 64 {29/10} | Baker | She took care of Kwangsun ever since he came from Japan and even more after his father passed away. Kwangsun loves his grandma so much and is very grateful for both of them taking care of him. She calls Kwangsun almost every day and makes sure he eats, and takes care of his health.

Grandfather | Yong Hyunseong | 65 {12/12} | factory worker | Cares a lot for Kwangsun, very overprotective of him and wants what’s best for him, especially education wise. Kwangsun wants to help out his grandfather by paying for his medicine.

experience: He went out with a girl before but never really felt anything special. In high school, he used to have a crush on his best friend, which was a boy.  He remembered being at his friend’s house and out of nowhere his friend just kissed him Kwangsun got into the kiss but his friend quickly pushed him away. Kwangsun left his house, and the next day at school he approached his friend, but his friend just ignored him. They never talked to each other again.

At first he was reserved and silent, but that was because he was far from home and missed his grandparents a lot. He later began to open up. At SM, the only friends he had were Kai and Amber, but when he moved to Stardom he began to open up more and be friendlier.
