Basics of Fanfiction
It is very likely no one will read this, but I really need to get it out there or I will most likely explode.
>I don't know about you, but I'm the type of person who just can't read a fanfic if it doesn't have a solid plot, good grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. I know a lot of people on asianfanfics are not native english speakers, so that cuts them some slack. If you're writing to improve your english, then great, keep going.
> It really pains me when I see dialouge written like this:
OC: blahblahblah
Onew: hawhawhawh
Minho: whateverwhatever
It just doesn't work for me like that. Unless it's supposed to be crack, or it's texting or whatever.
> I don't really like it when the authors put EVERYTHING about the story in their Foreword. The readers themselves should be the ones to visualize the characters, figure out their personality, and their likes and dislikes. If you put the entire plot summary in the foreword, then what's the fun of actually reading the story? You already know what's going to happen.
> It irks me when authors put pictures to display something in their story. This just demonstrates that they are either too lazy, or incapable of describing something themselves.
> Chapter lengths. I've been on FF.net, and just getting on AFF has been a burden. The chapters are varied in length here. I just can't read a story if the chapter is readable in one computer screen.
I've been on fanfiction.com a lot longer than asianfanfics. I can tell you that AFF is a lot more about socializing then actual writing. There are bunches of advantages that AFF has that FF.net does not have.
I think AFF has a more free, comfertable feeling. It's easier to communicate on here. The people are friendly. The author pages are more defined.
The thing about FF.net though, is the stories and reviews have more quality. It's easier to find what you're looking for because of all the filters. Tags, alone, I think are not enough to help you find what you want.
Another thing with reviews. On AFF, they're called comments, so I guess that gives you more freedom. I hardly ever see in the comments a solid review giving constructive critisim. Most of them are things like, 'loved it!' or 'I cried at the end! soo sad!' or ' Can you write a ____ fic now?' or 'I wish she ended up with ____"
Anyway, both sites have their ups and downs.
Every once in a while, a hardcore reviewer comes along and types up a storm. Those are lovely. I think that kind of review is what really helps an author grow. I, myself am not very good at reviewing. It's just awkward for me, so I don't say anything. I'm a silent reader, if you would say. Every once in a while though, I'll type up a question or some constrctive crit.
I'm not trying to point anyone out specifically, but I really hope you get the point I'm trying to make.
I apoligize if I sound rude, as I am not trying to offend anyone.
(I don't know if this counts as bashing, or flaming, sorry)
