Personality

Background: Music runs in the blood of Sejin’s family, as he was born to famous guitarist, Hwang Daesung and song writer, Jeon Jiyeon. God-gifted or not, it was said that the first sound Sejin had made since birth was humming to a melody his mother had always played to him before giving birth. Sejin grew up garnering praises for his outstanding vocal skills. Even for an 8 year old child, he had already won over more than a few dozens of prizes in singing competitions. Sejin’s parents were proud of him and always gotten him whatever he wanted.

Years passed by, Sejin becomes ever so spoilt and dependant on his parents. His singing was also often criticized by music critics where they commented his vocals had always lacked an amount of emotions. Truthfully, Sejin didn’t like that one bit. Everything only worsened as he reached puberty. He began rebelling against his parents at the age of 14. Cigarettes, he started smoking, he’d get into fights in the streets really easily as the others always for having such an ‘girly’ voice – one that could hit the high notes without putting any effort to it. Every three times a week he’d get into big trouble and his parents would come to the police station to help clear things up. Even so, his parents who loved him so dearly had never voiced out in scolding or correcting their son. Hence, Sejin never changed.

Another three months later, Sejin had gotten into another fight and he thought that day would be the end of his life. Sejin had was beaten up real badly and was rushed to the hospital immediately. His parents got a call and on their way to the hospital, they had somewhat crashed into a large boulder. Two lives lost. By the time Sejin had gained consciousness, he was told the news of his parents’ death. He was greatly shocked but there wasn’t anything else he could do but ride the guilt train for he didn’t even had the chance to say goodbye or sorry . It was after all, all his fault.

Soon after he was discharged, he went back home to pack up. He was only 14, but an orphan. However, how fortunate was he to be taken in by a Korean family. They were said to be a close friend of his father’s and lived in Seoul. At first he was really grateful to his uncle, but soon their true intentions showed. They had taken in Sejin not because of sympathy or pity, but his voice. They were selling Sejin’s voice to make money. Sejin had only found out about this ministration when he was brought to a not-so-famous entertainment media to be practically sold. This has caused him to somewhat become really angry hence he never obliged to any of the trainers or just simply anyone there. Stressful, his life became, and soon suicide came up in his thoughts. The night before his planned suicide was to take place, in his dreams his parents came. They somehow softened the hurt boy’s hearts and by the time he woke up, suicide was way past his mind. He knew his parents wouldn’t want to have him with them so soon, even if it meant they could be reunited. Hence, he vowed to his deceased parents that he’d never come to make such a silly decision ever again. He also promised to pursue music and made them proud.

Making up his mind, he finally managed to escape from the shady entertainment’s grasp. He made his way up to one of the Big-Threes namely, SM Entertainment. His mellow voice was enough to impress. Sejin was accepted and had trained in SME for about two years and six months. Everything was fine during his training, but the part where he suffered most was dancing lessons. Dancing wasn’t as easy as it looked for Sejin. for God had given him the voice, but he wasn’t given the flexibility. For nights he had to stay awake just to master a simple dance and no doubt, it was really stressful. But keeping his promise in mind, he tried his best not to complain. Sometimes, however, he had threw some tempers when he got laughed at by the other trainees for his awfully awkward and stiff dancing. Another year passed quickly, and now he’s 17. His dancing surely did improve but it wasn’t up to par with the rest of the trainees. Being an idol nowadays doesn’t mainly mean you need to have a good voice, dance is somewhat just as important. Bored and devastated, thoughts of himself never being able to debut flashed in his mind. Maybe it was because of the large range of trainees whom vocals improved greatly by every second, and had the talent in dancing, his chances was seemingly lower than the most of them who were also lining up to become a star. Hence, he decided to cancel his contract with SME. It wasn’t easy at first for there were many terms and conditions he had to follow before they can put the contract to an end. Finally, instead of cancelling the contract with SME, the higher-ups suggested he participate in the audition held by Angel Entertainment. If he succeeds in getting acceptance upon the audition and make his way to list of trainees to be debuted, the contract will officially come to an end. Otherwise, he shall return to SME. Sejin agreed to the deal and prepared for his audition. On the third day of the open auditions, he sang 2AM’s ‘Even if I Die I Can’t Let You Go’ in his own style and with his own lyrics; the lyrics he wrote had made himself shed tears as he sang. Right after he finished the song, a smile somehow tugged at his lips for he finally understood why the people had said his singing wasn’t good before – he never understood the real meaning of pain and sadness, not until now for all hardships he had went through had made him grow into a stronger person. A thunder of applause followed after the music stopped, and he was dismissed to the waiting room to await the results that were pending. Sejin sat at his seat and close his eyes. “Mother, Father, thank you for waking me up.” Even if he was to fail at this audition, there wouldn’t be any regrets. Sejin finally figured out how much music can make him feel better, how much it meant to him.

Description:Looking at a profile photo of Sejin, you’d say, “Wow, he looks like he’s easy to get along with.” How wrong you are. Forgetting about his looks and getting to know him better, you might actually get frightened by how often his mood swings occur. This second he’s all smiley and friendly, the next second he’s all grumpy and angry. Take note on what topics you’re talking around him, for if you were to say something that offends him, I suggest you stay away from him the next few hours. Sejin is one who works hard when he needs to, especially in the dancing department. Dancing isn’t really his thing, but he’s not that bad either, probably because he’s not as flexible as the others. On the other hand, when it comes to singing, just a short and simple verse that comes from his lips is already more than enough to mesmerise you.

Around people he really and truly trust, he’s really a good brother. Although it’s often he gets angry for no particular reason, he’s not really that bad of a person. There might be times where Sejin gets really stubborn and immature, his previous spoilt personality showing itself once in awhile, but if you try to convince him, he would willingly oblige. Sometimes, his strong side shows up too. If he thinks it’s something that he wants, his over-possessiveness takes over and he’d make sure it’s his, even if it’s someone he likes. There’s one thing about Sejin that really needs to be changed. Sejin is still easily get caught up in fights. Be it fighting or arguing with teammates or other idols. If it’s something he doesn’t agree with, he’ll argue with it until it satisfies him. At times like this, he’s also confusing himself for this always happens when the person he likes is involved and is probably the main source of the argument.

Likes: R&B music, Coffee, Shopping, Fruits, Sight-seeing

Dislikes: Public display of affection amongst other couples, mosquitoes, hospitals and medicine, people who only have money in their minds.

Habits: When he gets really frustrated, he’d grab onto his hair and grunt angrily. When he’s sad, he becomes silent and prefers to be left alone. He’s really talkative when he’s in a good mood. He tries to act angry when he’s forced to do chores, but because the mood difference from when he’s really angry or faking it is too great and obvious, he fails to fool the others with the angry act.

Hobbies: Playing the guitar, Lyric writing (both remind him of his parents and somewhat makes him feel better)
