Qiao has always been interested in Pyro...in fact, while her friends and other kids her age played with dolls, she always played with matches and lighters. It was a habit of hers to constantly carry a lighter around--each week, a new design. She didn't think anything of it--she just found fire to be. . . interesting.

Her parents always questioned this fascination that she had with fire and tried to keep her away from those things, but, she always had a way of finding where the lighters were hidden and most of the time, she would even have a lighter that she found elsewhere in her pockets. They didn't think anything of it and thought that it was just something she was going through and would eventually stop--but, she didn't...her fascination only got worse...

In the end, it's a win-win because both parties get what they want.

The Psychosis

Affliction: Pyromania
Specified Affliction:

Qiao actually just loves fire and is fascinated by the colors and the smell that the flame produces when lit. She doesn't has to have anything happen to her in order to light a match. All she needs is to be around one and it will become lit. She actually only recently began burning things...

Past with affliction:

Qiao's first time being exposed to a lighter and match was when she witnessed her father smoking a cigar. This has been traced to her diaper days. She became interested in the colors that the flame produced and also what it did when it touched specific things. The moment she was able to crawl and walk, she would get a hold of a lighter and match, finding out how to light it and smiling once the flame appeared before her. She didn't understand, at the time, why her parents were so against her liking fire. But, well into her childhood and adulthood, her fascination with flames only grew.

Admission:

Qiao is known to have a temper. Yes, everyone does. But, whenever she gets angry, she doesn't think about the consequences or how, in fact, her actions can put people in danger. When Qiao was eighteen, she began dating a man named Yeong - he was caring and compassionate and also a little bad boy. She liked that about him. He was very diverse and well rounded and paid quite a lot of attention to Qiao. He became her second love, after fire, of course.

They started getting serious, telling one another "I love you" and doing the types of things that loving young couples do. However, that romance was short lived.

Eventually, Yeong began acting "different". He no longer did the simple gestures that Qiao swooned over, and in fact, he began turning into a JERK. He became disrespectful and obnoxious. Qiao made excuses for him, saying that he was going through some things and that, with time, he would recover. Bruises were becoming noticed on her, but she told her friends and family not to worry about that.

She tried so hard to put up with him but one night--she snapped. She went into a fit of rage, not knowing exactly what to do or how to do it in order to get at him. He had cheated on her--and she had seen this with her own eyes. He was parked on the beach with a younger girl who she realized was one of her schoolmates -- a girl that she HATED. Without thinking, she immediately snook up onto the car, tore a piece of her sleeve off, placed it in the gas tank of the car, and lit it on fire.

It didn't take long for the flames to spread, and within minutes, the car was in flames-- Jeong and the was trapped inside. Qiao smiled--watching them both burn, screaming in agony, pleading for her to let them out all the while Jeong was apologizing tell her that he'd change if she got him out of it. But, she just watched. Suddenly, the car exploded right in front of her, and there was silence.

Cops arrived about an hour later on the scene and was in disbelief over Qiao's expression--she was smiling...holding a lighter in her hand--the hand which had the torn sleeve. She was questioned and didn't hesitate to tell the cops what happened. Her parents were called and they begged the police not to take her away, telling them that she had a problem and that they had always sought help for her but it only got worse.

She was admitted into the Ward three weeks later. That was two years ago--and there is no hope of her getting out at the moment.

Treatment: No previous treatment or medication was prescribed to her. It was a lie used to cover up her actions. Her parents informed the Ward to give her pills in order to "nurse" her back to health. But, it is only a fascade in order to keep the cops away from their daughter.

Miscellaneous

Tattoos, Scars, or Birthmarks: She has burn marks from her use of lighters.

Worst fear[s]: To be told she is crazy. & To be completely stripped of her affiliation with lighters.

Request for character: Someone that volunteers from the help could possibly be chosen to "care" for Qiao and learn her reasons for being fascinated with fire or to try to get her away from lighters and matches. They could dig deep into her psyche in order to figure out is she truly remorseful for her actions in killing Jeong or not...
