GENDERSWITCH FANFICS

GENDERSWITCH: 

  Verb. 
  1. The act of switching one character's gender to the opposite, often seen in homoual pairing fics. 

Why the was this even created you guys?

I understand that there are people out there who undergo this surgery to change their - I understand and respect it. 

But these fics are not the same. These fics switch up half of a homoual couple and changes one of them into a person of the opposite so that the pairing is now heteroual. But they label it under the pairing's name still.

... Why?

I'm going to use EunHae as an example, since they're my OTP and I'm finding great difficult explaining this without confusing the reader.

It is not the same if you switch Donghae's to that of a girl, you messed up writer you. Donghae was not born a girl. He was born a man. He fell in love with Eunhyuk as a man. If you "ship" them, then why do you have a problem with the fact that they are both men? Why are you changing his gender? Why, why, why?!

I have so many reasons to hate genderswitch...

One: It is so rude to the person being "switched". He/She was born in that gender, and he/she does not want to be changed. Ever think about that? And calling them the other gender can be considered, I dunno, rude? And no, I am not saying it is bad to be a woman, because this can be applied to girl to boy switches, too. Either way, it is rude and disrespectful to the person being switched.

Two: I honestly think some people who write genderswitch do this so that they can place themselves into the fic as the new girl (because all I know of genderswitch is actually boy -> girl... /cough). It makes me think you really don't ship EunHae as a couple, but you ship them so that they can't go off with any other girl.

Three: If you don't really do this to place yourself into the fic, then I assume you are homophobic and I question, again, why you are writing for this ship. (Because, yes, there are some annoying people out there who go: "Oh, I ship -inserthomoualpairing-, but I don't really think they're gay." I just - I don't know, either.)

Four: IT IS NOT THE SAME. I don't care if they have the same name. I don't care if this girl is "Donghae". It. Is. Not. Donghae. It's some girl who isn't Donghae but some sick, twisted, made-up character named Donghae. 

Oh, and I bet this will come up: "My idea works with a girl. I write stories with both as boys, but I have some/one genderswitch stories." I don't give a . Want to know why? Because you didn't have to write that story for that pairing to begin with. This only adds on to using a popular pairing's name to gain readers, when, in the end, the pairing probably has no real connection the story. The writer just wanted more readers. If you have a story that works with heteroual pairings, yay. Just don't go using it on a homoual pairing.

Overall, though, I believe genderswitch was created to put a girl into an OTP's role, to play out some double-fantasy the reader and writer may have. It's insulting and disgusting, and I do not approve of it at all.

Note: If you have any different ideas on genderswitch, do share. But for now, this is my opinion. Am I right? Probably not in all cases. But I bet I am in SOME, because I've met my fair share of idiots. But if you want to argue, please have a well-prepared argument.
