WhoAmI?
FULL NAME Park Nabom
NICKNAMES
 — Nana — no one calls her Nabom, everyone calls her Nana instead. She actually hates her name because she hates how insignificant the meaning is compared to her brothers. Her name means 'my spring' simply because she was born in spring unlike her brothers names who mean 'my way' (Nagil) and 'my soul' (Naeol).
 — Bom — her family, especially her brothers call her Bom instead of Nana for whatever reason.
 — Bobo — Nagil's annoying nickname for her that she hates to be called. Everytime he call her that she starts whining and stomping her feet about it no matter how old she gets. Even though it's Nagil's nickname for her, Naeol calls her that sometimes too just to get on her nerves.

APPEARANCE
Nabom is beautiful and everyone sees it. She takes a lot of pride in her looks, makes sure to eat well and exercise as to not gain weight or be bloated. She loves makeup and hates going out without it, her pale skin makes her look like a ghost when she doesn't at least have red lips, in her opinion. She follows the latest makeup trends and makes sure her hair is long and healthy with beautiful accessories everytime. Oh and don't forget the umbrella in the Sun, god forbid she gets a tan and looks like a commoner. Though with her beauty, she could probably never look like a commoner. She refuses to believe that they look that good.

FASHION
Nabom wears the most beautiful hanboks, usually light in color to make her look more pale and extra dainty. Decorated with embroidery of lotus flowers, cranes, and Chinese characters meaning good fortune or happiness; symbolizing her purity and wealth. However, those that know her especially her parents would disagree with the former. She experiments with textures like silk and fur but not going too far from the status quo to seem weird or out of the ordinary.

She always wears lavish jewelry that definitely shows her wealth, from binyeo to dwikkoji, they're all made from jade with real pearls, intricate designs and foreign gems. She is obsessed with norigae, the flashier the better and has one to match any outfit. Good thing she lives in a safe neighborhood or else she would've gotten robbed by now. It's not that she really cares about them, it's more a status thing just so she can be the best dressed and best looking.

ELABORATION
The Nabom most people know is a character that she puts on. Growing up she felt as if no one cared so after a while she made sure her presence commanded attention. She walks into a room with her chin held high, her confidence garnishing looks wherever she goes. A beautiful and well put together girl, who wouldn't look. Her perfect posture and the elegance of her movements make her seem intimidating enough to still be seen as admirable. Girls want to be her, guys want to be with her, and she loves every second of it.

Everything she does is calculated, she's never once acted on a whim, she always thought about the consequences of her actions. So all those times she snuck out, she was aware of the reprocussions of her actions but the benefits just seemed to have outweighed the costs. Her hanbok accidently raising up and showing her leg? Her brushing her hand on your arm? It's all on purpose because she knows subtle movements make a difference and will take into account your reaction to such actions so she can adjust accordingly. How do you think she can easily get so many men following her every command.

Her manipulation skills go beyond men though, people of power that she needs to please and elders all find her to be a pleasure. She conveys herself as this dainty girl with utmost respect. Her gentle mannerisms and soft voice could never hurt a fly, if she wants to gain your favor she'd create situations where she's seen as the good guy. But the same could be said for her enemies, anyone that gets in her way is subject to her cunning antics. She'd put you in situations to make you look bad and herself look good. Use her charm to throw your own friends against you and seem like the victim. Maybe even throw in a backhanded compliment or passive aggressive exchange, just to keep your self esteem down. Jealousy runs deep within her and it comes from her own insecurities and lack of attention as a kid.

Due to how she presents herself, no one would think that she's as intelligent as she is. She is the master of deception and could lie with a straight face, she shoud've become an actress with all the talent she holds for being two faced. But this couldn't have been possible if she wasn't practically brilliant. Just by looking at you she can spot your insecurities, knows what makes you tick and keep it in her mind just incase. Her creativity could actually be very useful someday if used properly, maybe a war strategist if she ever got the chance.

Since she worked so hard to craft this character and make everyone believe that she's this amazing person, it takes a lot to maintain. She hates when she's not in control and things don't go her way but even if she's about to explode she'd never show it in public. It's when she's away with Jinwoon or Eunchae will she explode, scream and throw things if someone ruins her perfectly crafted plan. Then she'd go back out with a smile on her face like she didn't just totally trash the room behind her. Being in a competitive situation for such a long period of time would be stress inducing and she might turn into a ticking time bomb depending on how it goes.

There's always another option though, put the character away and be herself. The real Nabom is way more nerdy than you'd expect, she's naturally good at anything she tries and enjoys learning new things and going on spontaneous fun adventures that would seem too childish or messy for the mask she puts on. She likes talking about the possibilites of the world, what it'll become generations later once everyone turns to dust. Those close to her would even call her funny, she has a witty sense of humor and a knack for comebacks. Probably because she has two older brothers that adore her but won't give her a break when it comes to getting made fun of. Growing up wanting to fit in with her brothers also made her naturally atheltic, anytime someones playing a sport she has to fight the urge to join.

The aspects of her true personality shine through at times, she might stop being a posh pretty girl for a second and actually jump into the lake or make an unexpected funny joke. There's very few people that she lets in, and those that she does she is undenyingly loyal to them and shows her care in actions instead of words. But that's who she was before and it got her nowhere, she rather be hated for the mask she puts on than be hated for being her true self.
DigDeeper
Three sons, thats the only thing Park Jaewon ever asked from his wife. If so, they would get blessed with immense wealth and good fortune. He was told so by a renowned fortune teller, so it must've been true. They were doing well for a while, had two sons that Jaewon loved more than anything. They were expecting a third because his wife Youngae was carrying low, and the dreams she had were all indicators of another boy coming along. But instead, when she gave birth, a baby girl was born to much of their disappointment, especially Jaewon.

He contemplated giving her away, dumping her somewhere and hope she passes to act as if that never happened. He could say his wife lost the baby and they could try again and still recieve the blessings he was promised. But the chain was already broken, three boys in a row was what he needed so what came after no longer mattered.

After her birth, any inconvenience that he faced was because of her. No matter how outrageous. There's no way political matters could be all because of a child but to him it made complete sense. Due to her curse, Nabom's parents didn't care for her as much as her brothers, especially her father. Her dad practically ignored her existence and didn't help out with raising her at all until she was old enough to ask for him herself and even then she was constantly ignored.

She watched her brothers get special attention just because they were men and could follow in his footsteps. But since she was a girl and offered no value to him she wasn't important. She still tried though, she studied well in school and even got awards for it but her father didn't care so eventually she stopped trying despite being top of her class. It didn't take long for her to learn that her only asset was her beauty. Her father constantly pointed out her mothers flaws, how she looked like she'd been in the kitchen a little too often recently or how she looked too tired for a woman who had no responsibilities, despite her raising his children. So Youngae was always on edge, making sure her looks were up to par so her husband could find her attractive.

Since she was 13 she was snooping in her moms makeup drawer trying to be prettier and even wore it to school to get male attention. It worked too, she had guys in a chokehold, sneaking around town acting like she was older than she was and smoking just to seem cool. She no longer cared about school or grades, she wanted the male validation that her father never gave her. This led her down the path of dating many guys, one after the other, sometimes more than one at once just so she could get showered in love and affection all the time.

She was popular though, everyone knew she was beautiful and she used it to her advantage all the time. Bullied other girls in school for being unattractive and used them as her little maids despite actually having some. She pranced around town like he runned the place and no one could tell her anything, any guy she wanted she got and she strung them along just to get gifts and attention. Military guys were the easiest and most low maintenance since they'd be gone for a while and could bring her presents from overseas.

Until she got caught making out with some woman's son in their shed and was dragged by her ear to her parents house. After learning what she did her father berated her, wished that she was never born since all she brought him was trouble. A good for nothing was what she was. If he knew she would be such a wanton he would've dropped her off at a brothel when she was younger and let her work as a maid there instead until she was old enough to sell her body. At least then he'd get paid and she's actually be worth something. His words that night cut deeper than any of the marks he left on her body.

Because of that incident her parents were ashamed of her, thought of marrying her off to someone far away who could take her with them so she couldn't taint the family name. They didn't even try to find her a husband, her dad just wanted her to stay out of sight so she couldn't embarrass him. He burned all her makeup and forbid her from leaving the house, the most boring two months of her life. Even her friends couldn't talk to her, only could give her letters or drop off gifts. Eunchae being the loyal friend she is came up with excuses to tell her many boyfriens that showered her in gifts and get well letters. But luckily for Nabom, her dads plans got moved up and he was appointed governor of a neighboring region not too long after. She was supposed to go with him and her mom but instead was allowed to stay in the capital with her brothers.

It didn't take long for her to get back to her old antics, her brothers didn't stop her as much as they thought they did but she definitely was more careful with her actions. When she found out about the contest she applied herself. Being the empress is just what she needs to be worth something to her father, to prove that she isn't just a liability. She thinks having a history with the emperor will definitely give her an upper hand in the competition, even if it wasn't the best one.

박재원 • FATHER
A cold and callous man that only cares about his reputation. He worked hard to get to where he is and wants to create a legacy, just like his father wanted. So anything that deters him from that doesn't deserve his attention. Nabom's relationship with her father affected her a lot. She's constantly trying to impress him and brings up the good she's done just to get his attention. She wants to be seen as someone that matters to him, but no matter how much she shows her intelligence he still tells her to go powder her nose during some conversations which even gets Naeol grimacing even though he doesn't say anything. He's very ist and has no problem saying his opinions with his whole chest, your typical guys guy that doesn't mind being an kisser for opportunities. But it's worked since he's now governor, gifted to him by the former king. He runs a tight reign and is a ruthless ruler. Similar to how he runs his household. He hates the idea of Nabom joining the contest because he's afraid she'll embarrass him.
A7v0hMG.png
신영애 • MOTHER
Their relationship is zero to none. Most of their interactions are Youngae judging the crap out of Nabom, degrading her looks and mannerisms anyway she can because she's jealous of her. She's one of those moms that compete with their own daughter and is happy she moved with her husband so she could have more of the attention instead of sharing her role as the only woman in the house with Nabom. Nabom isn't so fond of her mom, everytime she tries to get close to her she regrets it and honestly wonders what she did to be so hated.
A7v0hMG.png
박나얼 • BROTHER
Naeol loves his little sister, he's very protective over her and feels bad for her because he knows his dad doesn't value her. He sees how smart she is and thinks she has a lot of potential but his need to make his dad proud is stronger than his want to help her. It's quite the dilemma because he doesn't want to disappoint his father but he also understands where Nabom is coming from. He mostly takes a stricter role on her though. He has no idea how sneaky she is and is oblivious to her relationship with both Daejung and Jinwoon as well as any ill intent others have towards the emperor. He would be the type to get easily fooled because even though he is skeptical he doesn't believe people are inherently bad. He takes his duties seriously as one of the lead palace guards. He has a good relationship with both Daejung and Jinwoon, he views them both as friends to an extent.
A7v0hMG.png
박나길 • BROTHER
The free spirited brother, put on the international relations committee and spends a lot of his time traveling the world gaining knowledge. But actually spends most of his time drawing, language learning and dating. Everytime he comes back from overseas he has a crazy story to tell and brings back gifts for everyone. The family jokes that he definitely has at least three kids in different countries. He is very smart but hates the seriousness that comes with politics and is much more into the arts but just accepted his fate as being apart of the international relations committee. He is more like the laid back annoying older brother that Nabom loves but can't stand half the time. Whenever he comes back it's always a good time since he's the life of the party. He flirts with ever woman he finds attractive and married women aren't off the market to him either.
A7v0hMG.png
한민아 • ENEMY
Believe it or not but Minah and Nabom used to be good friends in school so she knows Nabom before her whole change. Nabom always felt jealous of Minah's relationship with her father. How she taught her how to fight and they had a seemingly close relationship that Nabom always wanted with her dad. So when Nabom started her whole mean girl streak, she was the first person that Nabom started to bully and Eunchae took Nabom's side. They just became two completely different people and haven't talked since. Nabom doesn't like Minah because she was always jealous of her and has no intention of becoming friends again. If anything, seeing her in the competition would make her more competitive and desperate to win.
A7v0hMG.png
정진운 • FLING-ISH
Jinwoon has been training to be a palace guard since he was young. His father is a high ranking military officer that now helps with combat planning. He put a lot of pressure in Jinwoon to be the best but he never succeeded. He has a quick temper that causes him to make rash decisions. His dad compared his skills a lot to the emperor since they were the same age and he only wanted to compare Jinwoon to the best of the best. Due to that Jinwoon has developed a disdain for the Daejung despite being friends when they were younger since he frequented the palace. He despises being just a palace guard, he thinks he has so much more potential. He trash talks to emperor behind his back any chance he gets but Daejung has no idea, he assumed that life just set them on different paths which is why they're no longer friends instead of Jinwoon ignoring him. When he became Nabom's guard he wasn't interested in her until he saw that she had a thing with the emperor. He charmed her just to take her away from him, a pride thing all within himself. He hates the idea her joining the contest. Because of her acceptance he'd return as a palace guard once again and will use any chance he has to pull her aside and kiss her, as if he has to remind her that he's the better one here. She also has to remind him that if she becomes empress she can promote him to whatever she wants and he needs to stop being such a jealous idiot. Her sassy way of talking causes them to bicker quite a bit but they have a lot of toxic passion that keeps them together. Just because she entered the contest doesn't mean they stopped hooking up. He likes to think he's in control but she really has him wrapped around her finger.
A7v0hMG.png
오은채 • BESTIE
Eunchae is Nabom's best friend since they were 7. They met at school and have been inseparable since. She will be joining Nabom as a maid at the palace because her parents arranged a marriage for her to an ugly older military man and she wants to delay the marriage as much as possible. She's much nicer than Nabom but follows everything she does so if Nabom doesn't like you then neither does she. She's like a minion of Nabom, doesn't really have her own opinion and is just another mean girl but not nearly as good at it as Nabom. She supports anything she wants to do and just lets her boss her around with no problem. Nabom judges her a lot but she does care about her at the same time, even though she uses her to her advantage quite often. When she sees Hyunwoo at the palace, it'll be love at first sight for both of them. She thinks he's adorable with his chubby cheeks and shortness.
A7v0hMG.png
권현우 • ACQUAIN...
Hyunwoo is another rich kid that frequents the palace and was a trio with both Jinwoon and Daejung when they were younger. Despite the group no longer being a thing he still remains friends with both of them and keeps his loyalty to both. He wouldn't betray one for another and stays neutral as much as he can. It kind of breaks his heart when Daejung asks about Jinwoon and he can't tell him that he hates him. As for his background, his dad is a special advisor and one of the chief scholars. They discuss Confucian ideas and political issues, advising him on what to do in daily meetings. Sometimes Hyunwoo sits in on them despite him not passing the scholar exam, he actually failed it once already but his dad refuses to let him cheat. He's still studying in hopes of passing someday and taking his fathers spot. He's a very laid back person and is usually the punch of all the jokes since he's tiny. He knows about her relationship with Jinwoon and knows that she cheated on Daejung, he isn't the biggest fan of her but once again it isn't his business so he stays neutral.
JustAFewQuestions
WHEN YOU FIRST FOUND OUT THAT YOU'D BEEN ENTERED IN THE BEAUTY CONTEST, HOW DID YOU FEEL? I wasn't surprised, I mean everyone in the capital knows I'm beautiful. But of course it was nice to get the confirmation from the palace officials.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU RATED IN THE INTELLIGENCE CONTEST? I think I did okay, I had to finish proverbs and explain them. Even if I wasn't quite sure I tried my best which is all that matters in the end. I just hope my handwriting wasn't too bad, its a bit of an insecurity of mine.

NOW THAT IT'S BEEN ANNOUNCED THAT YOU'RE ONE OF THE LADIES CHOSEN, HOW ARE YOU FEELING? Over the moon! I never thought I'd get such an opportunity so I'm excited to see how it'll go. I'll try hard to make my family and the capital proud.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE THE SUBJECTS OF THIS EMPIRE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I'm secretly a big lover of poems and I have talent for singing and dancing. I'd love to show everyone my abilities someday!

FULL NAME Kim Daejung
NICKNAMES
 — Daegi (대기) — it's a mix of his name and baby (aegi), she came up with it because she was his baby. He loved getting called that honestly. During the competition she'd try to call him that in private to entice him.
 — Daeng (댕) — more of a playful name that she'd call him whenever she wanted to make fun of him or . It usually resulted in her getting an attack of kisses at her rebellion.
 — Naekko (내꺼) — it means mine in Korean and is what he used to call her when they were dating. She'd love to hear it again.

FIRST MEETING
After her parents moved, Naeol was in charge of Nabom, and that meant everywhere he went so did she. As a high ranking guard for the palace that included a lot of waiting around and wandering. This time she wandered into the library, reading wasn't her favorite past time but it sure was a lot less boring than staring at a dry wall. She was the only one there in the quiet library with a stack of scrolls next to her and in came Daejung. She didn't know who he was at the time, just saw the desperate look on his face when he said, "if anyone asks, you didn't see me."

Sure enough a few moments later a worried male came barging in asking if she'd seen a guy fitting his description. She quickly shook her head no and he was on his way. Then out came the stranger with a sigh of relief and a thank you.

"You're truly a lifesaver. What can I do to repay you?"

She looked him up and down, he looked around her age and was good looking so she took her chances. "Hmm...some mandu and tteokguk might suffice, if you can afford it of course."

Daejung couldn't tell if she was joking or not but chuckled nonetheless, "I'm sure I can make do. Meet me outside the courtyard at  dusk, and make sure you're alone."

Nabom felt a rush of excitement all day, looking forward to meeting this mysterious guy. While her brother was sleeping she snuck out and saw him waiting where they agreed. He lead her to a secluded area where a chef was making what she asked for. She didn't bother asking how it was possible, assumed he had a wealthy dad like everyone in that neighborhood. Usually guys only talked about themselves or how pretty she was but he was different. Instead he talked about the poetry she was reading before, their favorite passages and the possible meanings. He picked her brain instead of being all touchy and weird. He didn't talk about her past or who her family was, for the first time, she felt seen for who she was on the inside.

LOVE STORY
Nabom looked forward to going to the palace after that, she wanted to see him again and get to know him more. He was so knowledgeable and didn't look down on her for being a woman. Whenever he could sneak away he went to find her, he enjoyed having someone to talk to that didn't just see him as the son of the emperor. She treated him like a regular person and wasn't afraid to be a little sassy and challenge him. The library was their usual meeting place, they hid behind the shelves giggling and chatting until someone called for them.

Almost every night they met up and went into town together on a horse. Going wherever they felt like, beautiful scenic spots, wearing disguises and going to theatrical bars that came to life once the sun went down, or making flower crowns in the middle of a meadow just because. For hours they were gone until right before dawn where they'd both sneak back into their beds and dreamed about each other. It was exhausting actually, especially since they had to wake up early. Sometimes in the library theyd just fall asleep resting their heads on top of one another's instead.

It was the longest time that any of Nabom's relationships stayed so innocent. But she didn't mind it, what they had felt way more intimate than anything she's had before even though they were less physically intimate. For the inexperienced emperor even holding hands was a big deal, which she initiated.

But after three months of secret meet ups and getting to know each other, he wanted to take it to the next level. He waited for her at their usual spot outside the courtyard and put a blindfold on her as to not ruin the surprise. She held on tight to his waist as he rode the horse to a quiet area. He guided her off the horse and a few steps away, when he took off her blindfold she was surrounded by beautiful lanterns and a lake rittled with pink flower pedals. As she admired the view he put a necklace on her from behind and recited a famous poem that they both loved:

The crimson of my heart is the paint for your profile.
I make it so you are displayed, so you are present where I sleep.
My frugal way of seeing you as you frequent my thoughts.

Daejung got the necklace made overseas, the pendant was a dongsimgyeol knot made from precious metals. The knot known for binding two hearts together that she could wear under her hanbok and never has to take off, that he too had. A tear came down Nabom's face, no one has ever put that much effort into her and she honeslty didn't think she deserved it. If he knew of her past he would never deem her worthy of such treatment. She was going to reject him, he deserved someone better than her but before she could it was like he read her mind.

"I don't know what happened in the past and I don't care, I only care about the Nabom that's in front of me now and I don't want to know anything else." With that, the two shared their first kiss that night and the most magical kiss that Nabom has ever felt.

Puppy love was how to describe their relationship right after, it's a good thing they kept it under wraps or everyone around them would be cringing. They didn't care about where it was going, all they knew was that they liked what they had and didn't want outside forces to ruin it. They only dated for 8 months but felt like they knew each other for years with how deeply they talked. They opened up to each other about the expectations put on them and the pressure of it all, without disclosing too much about their families and ruining the ambiguity.

But one day she got caught trying to sneak out by Naeol who soon after hired a fulltime guard just for her named Jung Jinwoon. Their nightly meetings were now impossible but they were still able to meet during the day when she accompanied her brother to the palace. However, even that soon became a rare commodity because of political issues and the war. Daejung tried his best to see her, but even he was on constant watch and the few times he was able to get away it wasn't enough for her. But there was someone there who was able to fill in for him, Jinwoon.

While she was still dating Daejung and he was doing his duties as the next in line to the throne, she was hooking up with her bodyguard. But it didn't match the deep connection she had with Daejung. It was so natural with him but with Jinwoon she was back to her usual self, it was all physical and shallow. A few months later she ended up breaking up with Daejung, she hated how they barely saw each other and preferred being with Jinwoon who at least was there to call her pretty all the time. Even if it did feel objectifying at times.

She never went to the palace again after that, she didn't need to since she had Jinwoon to watch her. About a year after that Daejung became emperor and she saw him in his element for the first time at the crowning ceremony. She was shocked to say the least and with how busy he was, couldn't find a way to talk to him at the dinner later that night. Her father would've killed her if she did anyways. But she did hear him say, "whoever marries him would be the luckiest women in Korea." And as his first love, she thinks it could be her.

STATUS Exes.

TRIVIA
 — She was his first love
 — She acts like she's only joining for opportunity but Daejung was the best boyfriend she's ever had. Him being emperor is just an extra perk. She very much does still love him.
 — She is the reason that he's cold towards the idea of a wife and doesn't really believe in love. He is still very much hurt by their break up because he really tried his best to meet her as often as he could despite being so busy
 — He has no idea that she was cheating on him
 — He refuses to give her special treatment and doesn't like how flirty and fake she's being. He doesn't understand that side of her since that's not who she fell in love with
  — When they dated she had her makeup taken away so he prefers her without it since he thinks she's beautiful regardless
 — She remembers all of his favorite things as he does her, he sure knows more than Jinwoon
 — He taught her son swordsmanship so she can actually fight a little bit
 — He bought her a beautiful eunjangdo carved with "na sarang" on it which means my love and hanging from it is a lotus flower, her favorite. He gave it to her since he didn't want anything to happen to her so he'd lose her. She still wears it all the time.
 — He used to love listening to her sing and taught him how to dance a bit but he's tragic
 — They used to write each other poems and letters. They'd alwasy give them to each other in person though but tell them to read it later. She still has all of them.

COMMENTS
 — Not so sure if she came out as I intended but I just wanted to turn her in already. I'm also not sure how experienced you wanted to make Daejung so I'll leave the intimate details to you. Any little details that seem open ended such as where her dad governs is all up you too. Shes kind of based off of Regina from mean girls. I just hope i didn't add too many side characters oop-

SCENE SUGGESTIONS
 — Minah and Nabom fighting, maybe a physical fight where Nabom starts it but then when others come she acts like Minah attacked her
 — Her making Daejung blush and nervous
 — Her dad smacking her after finding out that she joined the competition
 — Jinwoon losing his temper & doing smth stupid
 — She's alone with Daejung for whatever reason and she tries to sleep with him but he rejects her and it's hard for both of them
