 background

Being the products of divorce, Boo Yumi and her twin sister were forced to travel back and forth between two households. What made matters worse is that her parents were so filled with hatred towards each other that they created as much distance between them as possible. Their mother moved to Japan, while their father stayed in South Korea. So, Yumi and Yuri traveled from Seoul to Wakayama every time one of their parents got the overwhelming urge to see them. And this happened often, considering both parents had the money to schedule flights whenever they pleased.

The twins had no say in this, so they went wherever they were supposed to go. Because of all the back and forth, they weren’t able to attend school. They simply had private tutors that taught them virtually until they busted their asses to graduate early at the age of 15. From then, the twins tried to make life a little more fun for themselves. They visited and stayed with different family members for weeks at a time. They volunteered their time to different causes that seemed to make the world a little better. They took different lessons on things they didn’t know how to do, just to say that they learned it. These things were a joyous break from the monotonous tug-of-war their parents consistently did for their love and attention.

It wasn’t until their 19th birthday that Yuri told Yumi that she’d read about The Might. Yuri’s interest in the program wasn’t much of a surprise to Yumi because her sister had developed such a strong sense of pride and aspiration towards 777, when he became the first hero. Yumi was afraid, but her sister expected her to join with her, as they did everything together. So, Yumi agreed. And to this day, she regrets it.

 depth

Positive — patient, altruistic, generous, resourceful
negative — secretive, timid, irrational, resigned
neutral — perceptive, eccentric
other — enfp-t, true neutral, ravenclaw

Personality expanded — even from boo yumi's childhood, she was always willing to wait for what she wanted. she had much more of a tolerance than her twin sister, allowing her to come across much more levelheaded of the two. because she kept her composure and simply allowed things to come to her, yumi gained insight while growing up. she was always observant of others, letting people show exactly who they are, instead of letting them tell her. it was much more accurate than the lies people could make up about themselves and sell to any person who didn't care enough to take a closer look. and yumi doesn't only rely on first impressions, either. she would wait as long as necessary for someone to show who their true colors before making her assesssment.

even then, yumi prefers to see the good in people. she's very generous with her belongings, her time, and her forgiveness. her selflessness borderlines on people-pleasing, but in truth, she really just doesn't want much for herself. growing up with parents who only cared what was best for themselves and a headstrong sister who preferred to take the lead, yumi didn't demand much from life. and this carries on to the present day, where she still offers up anything without any bitterness or resentment on her part. she would have to truly dislike someone or something to decline to help in any way she can.

and to underestimate yumi is a dangerous thing to do. because for however nice and calm she is, she is just that resourceful as well - if not more. she has a knack for figuring things out, and when in a bind, she can think very quickly on her feet. her powers also help her, being able to see things from all different perspectives, but she's also just a very clever being. and unless it's for a good cause, yumi will mostly feel inclined to keep her thoughts to herself. being secretive, she'll not only keep her thoughts - but she won't share new information easily unless she thinks it could help. she kept the extent of her powers from the government, she keeps inside how she feels about her sister passing away, and she would probably not inform heroes, villains, etc. about her helping anyone who asks for it. this counts for others' secrets as well. if someone tells her something and needs it to stay hidden, it will.

of course, this is in part due to how timid of a person she is. growing up, she truly only had her sister, and she isn't used to being around a lot of people. she likes being around people, but she'll come across shy and introverted because she simply isn't the first to speak up or put herself out there. a new development in her personality doesn't help this either. after the death of her sister, she's become rather resigned. she doesn't have much fight in her, and though she'll help, she won't easily see any cause as being something she particularly cares about unless it's for the good of all or most people.

some may perceive yumi as strange and unconventional, which is true. she won't deny this about herself, and she won't even try hiding it. this is something that stemmed from childhood but flourished even more so due to her powers. she's imaginative, and she's always thinking outside of the box...even if people desperately need her to keep her thoughts and ideas inside the box. she's illogical in the sense that she doesn't see why impossible things couldn't be done. if "be delusional" was a person, it would be boo yumi. this is something her sister instilled in her at a young age, but it's worked out for her more often than it hadn't.

power explanation

meaning of name: though she isn't employed by the government, heroes and villains alike have taken to calling her boo, a play on her last name and the ghost nickname that she gained because of her powers. anyone who knows her because of her abilities will call her this instead of mimi

intention(s):
— to keep the government from finding out the true extent of her powers

goal(s):
—to find a way to stop or minimize her astral vision

power: astral projection and astral vision

known abilities:
— she can project her consciousness from her body
— she can see overlapping planes of existence

hidden abilities:
— she can project the consciousness of others from their bodies
— she can project her and others' souls into the netherworlds of the afterlife
— she can transfer her own consciousness into another body; possession

weaknesses:
— she will always astral project while unconscious
— she could become trapped in the astral plane by a telepath if they wanted to
— she cannot control other spirits or souls, other than pulling them from their bodies
— she cannot physically alter anything while in her astral form, other than speaking to someone or allowing them to see her
— if someone is very powerful, it will be difficult for her to possess them
— if the person she possesses dies, she will also die
— it is extremely dangerous for her to project any soul into the netherworlds of the afterlife. if she cannot bring her or another's soul back before a certain amount of time, the soul is gone forever. essentially meaning, the person is then dead.
— she cannot turn her astral vision on and off. it's always on, making it incredibly hard for her to perceive what's actually in this world and what isn't

side effect(s)
— hypersensitivity; because she can't perceive what's real from what's in an alternate plane, her sense of touch has heightened. the smallest tap could leave her bruised. people have to be extra gentle when touching her or shouldn't touch her at all. the same is true, psychologically. her emotions are also heightened, to the point where she could get irrationally angry or sad in seconds without any warning. if she starts crying, it could take hours for her to stop, and she can't keep herself from holding onto emotional pain and letting herself heal.

♡ twin sis

full name: boo yuri
face claim: kim yerim (red velvet)
traits: impatient, assertive, brave
status: deceased
closeness: 100%

interactions: when yuri was alive, it seemed like it was the whole world versus the two of them. yuri was born first, and she made it very obvious to anyone who knew them. she was always the one to take charge, to protect, and to speak up. and yumi was always the one to follow suit. contrary to what anyone might think, neither of them particularly minded their roles in the family. probably because they looked at each other as the only reliable one the other had. they did absolutely everything together, seemingly never growing tired of each other. they might have had the occasional argument or sister squabble, but they were united majority of the time. when yuri fell ill after the might program and then inevitably died, yumi was distraught. in the present day, only four months after her twin sister's death, yumi does not talk about yuri at all. and if anyone were to bring her up, yumi would either shut down completely or have a breakdown.

♡ maternal cousin

full name: kyung woojin
villain name: ice prince
face claim: cha eunwoo (astro)
traits: charming, genius, malicious
occupation: villain celebrity
closeness: 75%

interactions: they never were really around each other as children, since woojin was sheltered and yumi and her sister were shipped back and forth between south korea and japan. however, when they became teenagers, the twins started hanging out with more family members. and one of their favorite people became woojin. yuri and woojin butted heads often because of their assertive personalities, but they enjoyed their bickering. whereas both yuri and woojin seemed protective over yumi. this has only increased since yuri's passing. woojin is one of the few people that know what happened, and she might even talk to him about it for a while before shutting down. and this is only because he also knew yuri. she doesn't really care that he's a villain because he's always been caring to her. she's well aware of his malice, but she doesn't truly care since he's her family and to her, family would come before anything else.

♡ friend

full name: yoo (she doesn't know his full name)
hero name: the real
face claim: ok taecyeon (2pm)
traits: cheerful, dense, rowdy
occupation: hero
closeness: 55%

interactions: they don't know each other well, and they don't even share their real names with each other. however, yumi would definitely still call yoo a friend. he's a source of amusement for her whenever he's around, and she admires his sheer devotion to doing whatever he's told. in her eyes, he's like a puppy dog. if he were to ask her for help, she would do so without any hesitation. however, she wouldn't want to talk about her personal life with him. whenever they're around each other, they speak easily and tend to hang around each other. whenever they're apart, they may reach out every now and then to check in, but neither of them feel the need to contact each other daily.

♡ annoyance

full name: won (she doesn't know his full name)
hero name: 777
face claim: lee hoseok (soloist)
traits: diligent, decisive, domineering
occupation: hero
closeness: 30%

interactions: opposite from yoo, yumi actually loathes having to be in 777's presence. she doesn't even call him won, like the others who know him. she prefers his hero name, to make sure he knows they aren't close. he was the one who trained her and tried to push her to her limits during the might. he was also the one who suggested that her powers weren't enough to grant her a 'hero' title. if she hadn't fully explained her powers to the scientists, they would have thought she was an 'ill', like yuri was before she passed away. even if they were to see each other again, she would try her best to ignore him. if he asked her for help, she would decline unless it was to help other people as well.

♡ mystery

full name: yeo (she doesn't know her full name)
villain name: the ringmaster
face claim: lee sungkyung (model)
traits: optimistic, radical, demanding
occupation: villain leader
closeness: 20%

interactions: to be honest, they haven't truly met. they've exchanged messages as yeo as tried to bring yumi into her group. each time, yumi has declined. however, they have a decent rapport, so if she were to ask yumi for help, she would do so without any problems.

height: 158 cm

appearance
— yumi doesn't differ much from her face claim. her hair, though naturally dark brown, is everchanging in color. she usually sticks to brighter colors.

everyday style
— her style isn't much. literally, she'll wear sweaters and shorts or sweaters and leggings any time or place. and if her sweater has a hood, it's definitely going to be on her head

training style
— she doesn't train, so this doesn't apply. she would wear her everyday attire.

costume
— because she's a minimal and doesn't work for the korean government, yumi doesn't have an official costume. however, whenever she's being asked to help (whether it's on the side of heroes or villains), she will often don a long, ivory veil.

hey dawn, and thank you so much for applying! i'm honestly so happy because i didn't think anyone would make their character a minimal! and with a twist because yumi's powers are anything but minimal!

i love all of the references to her power: using her last name, which could reference her power, the ghost/ghost princess nickname, and even the veil she uses when she's helping people. it's so sad that her twin sister died despite being the one who wanted this in the first place. side note: i really love that you made yumi the ice prince's cousin because he's also someone who isn't viewed as being on any true side despite being labeled as such.

ALSO the way yumi doesn't even like 777 but is cool with the real is something i really enjoy. it would be fun writing banter out for the three of them being around each other.

can i just say i really like her powers. the astral vision and projection is something that isn't seen a lot in movies/manga/comics, and that would be so challenging and fun to write about.

so anyway, i definitely love yumi. i can see her working extremely well within this story. and i feel like i could use her in so many ways to either help certain characters or help move the story along in some ways. thank you so much again for applying, and she's accepted!
