BACKGROUND

Her life was not complicated. She she was born in America two minutes older than her twin sister. They moved around a lot because her father was in the military. Every 2-3 years they moved to a different state and sometimes overseas. Her mom saw it was hard for them to make friends so she home schooled them so it was easier. Her only friend was her sister and moving around wasn’t so hard anymore because they didn’t have to try and make friends or get sad when they left their old friends.

They started playing tennis when they were seven years old as a fun thing so they can be with other kids too. They enjoy playing together the most and we’re very good at it. After homeschool they always practiced tennis. Their mom was their coach because she played tennis in college. And anywhere that they went to they played and ranked nationally.

They didn’t see their dad that often but their mom really favored her sister. Her sister was more outgoing and better at tennis. Saebyeok was more shy. She was in charge of taking care of her sister and whenever Saetbyeol did something wrong she got in trouble for it. She tried not to make it too obvious but she can feel it anyways. When she was 14 she found a passion for writing and wrote stories on a fanfic website and started her own blog. she didn't get many views but enjoyed and always updated it with thought provoking things.

In 2020 her dad got stationed in Seoul, in 2022 he was set to move to Okinawa Japan but for college they chose Jeju University so their parents just left together. Saetbyeol loved the environment of Jeju after they went on vacation and Saebyeok wanted to be with her sister so she stayed too. They chose to both major in Physical education and Business but opposite ways so they can open their own tennis school.

saebyeok has always been shy. she isn't confident to talk to others unless they talk first or she builds a lot of curage. growing up she was put in charge often so she is a responsible girl that does everything diligently. she is an excellent student and never does anything wrong, its always whats expected of her. so she is good at following rules and keeping up with her studies. even for tennis since her mom is interested in it she kept doing it with no question of if she really likes it.

in her life she moved a lot so she envied people that had a real school experience and many friends. she kept it to herself though and poured her frustrations in other things like work or tennis or writing. she isn’t the type to say something that is bothering her to someone’s face because she is so shy, Saetbyeol is more the type to stand up. so she is very passive and won’t speak up but if she doesn’t agree she won’t go with the crowd so much. only if she feels like it. but then to her sister she is bossy and would nag or scream at her.

she is the motherly kind of friend that looks after her friends.  but she depends on her sister a lot because she was always there before. some things she hates to do alone like ordering food so saetbyeol always did it.

they are twins but very different. saetbyeol is the outgoing sister that is sneaky and rebellious. she never got the chance to do so many things so now nothing can stop her unlike saebyeok that wants to live the same life as before. saetbyeol always hated being bossed around by saebyeok because she doesn’t think 2 minutes is actually a big sister. she doesn’t like that saebyeok clings to her either. just like any sisters they fight a lot but since they always only had each other they made up all the time.

DIRECTION at first saebyeok will try to cling to her sister a lot. she will expect them to do everything together because they have the same classes and are roommates too. be known as the tennis twins. but eventually saetbyeol will be more distant. she will make friends and rebel and it leaves saebyeok alone. she was never the one to get attention, it was always saetbyeol so instead she takes her frustration out by writing a blog post about it called "the truth about jeju university". it was a gossip post that anonymously exposed some of the drama she heard. she expected ntohing in response becasue she went on rants before but it went viral. she loved the attention she was getting from it so it became a series she started.

eventually she makes friends and enjoys college, finding her passions away from her sister. but at the end of the day she is just collecting information to write about on her blog. she's finally getting the attention she wants but at what costs?

hello! welcome to the jeju university family! can you tell me a bit about yourself?

hi I’m Madison saebyeok choi but my Korean name is just choi saebyeok. Uhmm I was born in America but I moved around a lot because my dad is in the military. I also have a twin that’s interviewing after me.

out of all the colleges in korea, why did you pick jeju university and why your major?

my dad was stationed in Seoul since 2020 and we visited Jeju a lot for vacations. We loved it so much that we thought to come back for college while my parents went to Japan. My major is physical education and my minor is business because my sister and I want to open a tennis school together. She is studying business and minoring in physical education since both is needed to run that.

where do you see yourself in 10 years?

hopefully teaching kids tennis with my sister and opening multiple schools worldwide eventually.

what would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

my strength is that I’m responsible and diligent at doing things. But I’m bad at speaking up. I think I’m really too shy, it’s unfortunate. But that’s why I’m glad I have my sister because she makes up for that.

as a freshman you will reside in chungsam hall, what do you look for in a roommate? any lifestyle habits that you find intolerable?

I applied for a double with my sister as my roommate since she’s already by best friend.

what are you looking forward to the most as an incoming freshman?

I’m looking forward to playing tennis against other schools with my sister and discovering Jeju more together. I think it’ll be really fun.
