APPEARANCE long dark hair often left to be dried by nature's hair dryer, the wind and usually styled down but in moments where inha doesn't want her hair obstructing her vision so much, she'll either have it in a half-up half-down do or a low bun, a few strands escaping and framing her face.

BACKGROUND

FAMILY BACKGROUND born to parents who work for korean air as a pilot and flight attendant. their occupations demanded them to be away from home quite frequently especially as they dealt with international flights so, balancing work with looking after their daughter, inha was quite a challenge. it was a good thing for them that inha's maternal grandparents who had already been living within the couple's household were there, aiding in raising her.

from a young age, yeon inha knew that she was extremely adored by her family. they would entertain her musings and would drop everything for her. in spite of her parents not being as present compared to other parents, when they are all together, people cannot deny how their bond seems so strong.

the neighbourhood inha grew up on was quite a fun one as there always seemed to be something exciting to do and see however, there were a lack of people who lived there who had children as many who move and reside there were students, young couples or individuals aspiring to have a flourishing business within the area. sure, inha had her grandparents who were more than willing to explore and play with her but their energy capacity was not on the same level as inha's. it would have been nice if she had a friend close by who would be up to play and have adventures with her. it wasn't until inha was around 8 years old when she no longer was the only kid in the neighbourhood.

a family moved in to the house across from inha's. they were originally from jeju and were to set up their own law firm in seoul. they also had a son her age named haengwoon who was not so happy about the move, sulking at a corner. inha's attempts at befriending him were met with failure as he either would insult her or just keep repeating how he wanted to return back home. he was becoming unlikeable in her eyes. who would want to associate themselves with a grump like him? those were the type of words spilling out inha's mouth after all her patience and tolerance had thinned down to dust. inha felt extremely guilty upon seeing tears escape his eyes, and even moreso when he had ran before she had the chance to apologise.

from brainstorming and a little help from her family, she had the perfect apology planned. it however took a lot of pushing to get haengwoon to agree getting into the car with her. it was the summer holidays and since he missed home so much, inha had thought that they should go on a day trip to sokcho. its beaches were just as beautiful but her plan had failed when before they could even step into the sand, it started to rain heavily. they were supposed to have a bbq out, too.

"no beach here could ever compare to jeju but... thank you. i'm sorry, too."
"i even made a dol hareubang keychain for you. it ended up looking really ugly."

"you're not meant to say that!"

inha had expected haengwoon to have a striking comeback but she was left stunned as she witnessed his eyes twinkle as he laughed. it was the first time she had ever seen him look so happy and it caused her cheeks to flush and heart to skip a beat. on the other side, haengwoon thought the silence and the redness on her face were signs that she may have gotten ill with the redness continuing to deepen as he coddled her. it was from that summer when they ended up inseparable.

no one can ignore the honey that was dripping out their eyes whenever they were with each other. it was no shock to the people around them when they announced that they were romantically together at 14. they were each others' firsts and without a doubt, they were likely going to each others' lasts as they talked about their possible future. one of those talks had involved which university they would apply to and attend. jeju university came up rather frequently.

"i don't know. i've never really liked going to the beach or hiking up mountains. no offence but jeju's really small too. wouldn't we just end up running out of things to do?"
"it's because you've never been to jeju. all you 'seoulites' know are the touristy stuff but you've got me. trust me, you will end up loving it. when have i ever been wrong?"

inha's life was close to perfection — it was, until her final year of highschool. to be specific, it was the day of the csat. like always, she and haengwoon were to make their way to school together but he wasn't outside her home waiting for her, nor was he and his family at their home. she called his number and there was no reply. it was strange but she couldn't ponder it over for too long as she had to make sure she was not late so to take the exam. she didn't see him at the examination hall or outside during the breaks but she did see him outside the school when she had finished.

"i missed out on the csat."
"why? where were you?"
"my parents took me to the hospital. i had a fever... well, i thought it was just a fever but the past few months, i had been feeling lethargic and had pains here and there..."
"what?"
"yeon inha... i have cancer."

tears were shedded continuously that night. she wouldn't let go of him. despite his report of doctors saying that his case seems very treatable and that she shouldn't worry too much on leaving him behind and attending university, inha decided to defer her entry so she could be around to support him especially as he wanted to keep his condition private to many but a select few.

"are you sure you want to be doing this?"
"i'm not going without you."
"there's going to be many hospital visits."
"i'm aware."
"there's going to be needles... blood.... there's a high chance i'll be throwing up. you don't like that."
"i know but..."
"i'll be bald, too."
"hair will grow back!"

her heart broke as she saw him weakening yet there he was smiling as he reassured her that it's all part of the process for him to recover yet that ended up being far from the truth as his cancer had become extremely aggressive. doctors were saying that he likely had less than a year or even half a year left.

haengwoon was bedridden and barely had an appetite anymore. he was in slumber more than he was awake yet when he was conscious, he didn't fail to smile and make jokes in spite of the pain. he had come in peace with the fact that he would die young. inha knew it too but she did not want to acknowledge it.

"will you fulfil a dying man's wish?"
"don't say that! you're going to be fine."
"let's get married."

if it had been any other situation, inha would've likely said no with reasons such as their ages, the lack of proper planning and the lack of romanticness. however, would they ever have the opportunity to marry at any other time? she agreed to his proposal. such decision was met with hesitance from both their families yet they allowed it due to the circumstances. the wedding was small and private without much planning with inha having borrowed her mother's dress and haengwoon having been lent his father's suit and tie as they married in his hospital room. it was also on that same very day when it seemed like life was brought back to haengwoon's body. it felt like a sign that everything was going to be okay. unfortunately, that wasn't the case as shin haengwoon passed away two weeks later in his sleep.

inha had been distraught for months. people have said time will heal the pain but to inha that wasn't the case. time moreso helped life become a bit more bearable without him especially with the help and support of those around her. haengwoon wouldn't have wanted her to be stuck grieving. he would have wanted her to live on and be happy, to step into the next milestones of her life. there's no reason for her to push things back any further. inha was going to have to finally attend university.

"will you fulfil a dying man's last wish?"
"i thought your last wish was to marry me." inha chuckled as she scooted herself closer to where he laid in the hospital room. "what is it this time?" she asked.
haengwoon reached out for her hand and as he clasped his hand with hers, he gave a weak squeeze. "live life and be happy even when i'm gone, okay? promise me."
"how—"
"you'll be okay. you always manage to be okay even when things are difficult. i believe in you. i'm not even a selfish lover. i'm also going to allow you to date! he probably won't be as good as me but if things do get serious, you better introduce me to him at my grave—"
"shin haengwoon!"

if people were to describe yeon inha, it would be that her presence radiates warmth and comfort. it's as if one can have their guard down around her with no fear that she has some sort of ulterior motive. she stays true to herself even in a room of a dozen sheep. she doesn't really have anything to hide and she isn't shy to call out something or someone she has an issue with which contrasts quite slightly to the image she portrays, seeming rather delicate and moreso found solo or in a tiny group.

the affection she has to those dear to her have no bounds, and it is seen through the amount of knowledge she has stored and collected over her time with them and the extent she would go in showing her appreciation and caring for them. happiness and comfort are things she values in life but she can somehow take it a bit too far especially with herself, and at times would heavily distract her from important tasks and responsibilities, the concept of time seeming non-existent. it's fine to treat one's self to mortal pleasures but when it is combined with such things and possessing a brain that is rather unstructured which prefers being more lax with her lifestyle than being methodical, it is going to be a problem for her and others around her.

despite this, she remains rather composed which perhaps is due to her resilience making her very self-aware of such issues and gives her the drive and confidence to overcome times of stress, difficulty and hardship. due to this, yeon inha is not one to lose and give up so easily even when the world seems to be against her side. she tries to be positive. this kind of drive and motivation is also seen when faced with something new and unknown, her eyes twinkling in eagerness to know more or to try it out and take part at least once. however, one too many setbacks or criticisms for inha can be a bit too much for her to handle and thus will lead her into erratic behaviour with her potentially becoming as turbulent as a volcano with her words becoming as sharp as knives and actions as cold as ice. when calmed and reflecting back on such behaviour, it leaves inha with regret and embarrassment for not having better self-control or having not been logical or rational at the moment.

as mentioned prior, she may not be a sheep but she definitely isn't a leader. if anything, inha wouldn't like being given that level of authority however, if her standards are not being met or the situation she is under simply has no direction and is close to complete chaos, she will take over and she can be quite harsh and overbearing, wanting the very best result or a result that is more ideal.

like many human beings, yeon inha is not someone who wants to be drowning in pain yet she can't help but find a unique type of beauty behind it, allowing herself to dive and wallow in nostalgia and revel in the feelings and themes evoked from art, music and stories. they're quite inspiring to inha yet it also causes her to have moments of delusion and impracticality. from the traits she possesses, it's no surprise to anyone that her life path is one of artistry and experiment.

when inha had first met shin haengwoon, he looked like a kicked puppy. she had thought he would be the puppy type until they had gotten closer and realised he was more like a fox from his personality down to his very smile with how sly and cunning he could be. despite his arrogancy and his tendency to tease and get a reaction out of her, he was sweet at heart, having supported and comforted inha to which she gave back with as much fervour. they did just about everything with and for each other, both good and bad times, even in situations they don't particularly take a shine to but the other did, e.g. inha learning football (soccer) terminology and even completing a first aid course due to haengwoon having wanted to be in their highschool football team.

haengwoon did not beat around the bush when it came to his feelings towards her. he likely had started falling for her when she had taken him to sokcho. he adored inha dearly and it was clearly seen through his eyes and his actions, always wanting the very best for her. inha especially reminisces fondly of how he would kiss her hand, in particular, her left ring finger every time he greeted her when they had become a couple. so many secrets and memories have been shared between them, and haengwoon is forever going to remain someone important and pivotal to her life. thinking back, haengwoon had always been some sort of guide to her in quite the metaphorical and literal sense. he could even be considered her voice of reason (even when he did take part in her bouts of recklessness at times). it's been around a year since he passed and inha has found herself coping better over time without him but yes, there are times when she misses him more than ever. whenever she felt so, she would often look back at old pics or videos or even visit his grave and talk to him for a while but that option won't be as accessible anymore now that she is to fly and study in jeju.

his name, haengwoon, means 'luck' and its meaning is quite ironic considering how his fate at the end turned out being but haengwoon argued that he still lived a pretty lucky life, especially as he was able to have met her, his soulmate. shin haengwoon always did have a way with words.

when inha had approached wonbin, wonbin had thought that she perhaps was trying to flirt with him or had been one of the many girls he had been with in the past trying to get back with him or wanting revenge on getting their hearts broken especially with how the first thing she asked was whether he remembered her. she mentioned the highschool he attended and he then thought she was perhaps a stalker but she quickly rectified the misunderstanding when she mentioned that they both attended the same high school and mentioned the name shin haengwoon.

"ah, you're haengwoon's girl!" although wonbin was a year above inha and haengwoon, he and haengwoon had been teammates in their highschool football (soccer) team and had been rather close, hanging out after practice at times and having teased the younger for his devotion towards inha. he remembered inha as someone who regularly attended matches and sometimes volunteered with first aid.
"if you're here, that means that rascal is here, too. where is he? is he planning on trying out for the soccer team?"
wonbin was shocked to have found out that haengwoon had passed. "oh. i'm sorry."

many people's opinion of wonbin are less than favourable which often shocks people when she pipes up and mentions how she thinks he's really nice and sweet. haengwoon had originally been the one they talked about and bonded over with wonbin having even been kind enough to offer looking out for her and helping. they soon form a friendship to which some find hard to believe. wonbin? befriending a girl and not trying to get into her pants? lee wonbin may be many things but he's a loyal friend and he wouldn't do that to a dear friend's girl even if that friend has long gone. in spite of this, he later questions those feelings, wondering whether he had gotten a crush on her but due to such loyalty, he shrugs it off and believes such feelings to be confused and misplaced, and continues being his usual self. a romantic relationship with inha would not be ideal. they're far from each other's types. if anything, they act like siblings.

NOTES 
not a morning person but she does require a morning shower to actually function for classes and would often wake up to get ready and also grab a bite around 2 hours before classes are to start. likely to be found with iced coffee in the classroom for the extra energy which she likely got from happy bean or one world.
when classes are over, she likely is exploring places on and off-campus or have agreed to something like a meal with people from her class or someone she befriended in chungsam hall. as for meals, she barely cooks and likely would be found eating at the canteen, dining out or ordering takeaway.
many of the courses inha has enrolled to do not have homework. her grades on those courses mainly depend on her mid-term and final exams as well as final coursework which tend to not be set at a much later date which does not help in improving her habit of procrastination especially when it is combined with her belief of "the best results tend to come from having a good amount of stress and pressure," yet she will likely be questioning her life choices and why she would torment herself like this the closer she is to the dreaded date.
in other words, her schedule is more free than it should be.

RECENTLY ADDED as of 5th may 2023
her family transfers over to her bank account a generous monthly allowance. she honestly could go through university without having to earn money but she applied to work at the one world cafe for added work experience to thicken her cv but also to insist to her family that they really don't need to give her so much money especially with how much they already spoil her.
unlike her old part-time job at a cafe where she was behind an easel drawing caricatures of customers, she is often stationed behind the till inputting people's orders into the system or handling drinks. when the cafe's not too busy, inha would fall into a habit of doing a quick cute cartoon sketch of the customer she is serving on their to-go cups or paper napkins.
her work rota changes each week, the only constant being that she works two to three shifts a week and one or even two of those shifts is sure to be on a thursday with how she only has one class that day.

DIRECTION "live life and be happy" were words which inha had promised haengwoon to live by and that is something she had been aiming to fulfil throughout her whole life but all just seems strange and different now that she doesn't have him around anymore. he had been the person whom she had always gone to in matters both positive and negative, and had been the person whom she had tagging along with her to just about everything. continue exploring, try out new things, tie bonds with new people, strive for achievements but to make mistakes, too. live out her youth with no regrets.

haengwoon discussed with her about how someone like her wouldn't be without a guy or two possibly crushing on her at university to which inha raised an eyebrow at in disbelief.

"i don't think so," she laughed.
haengwoon mirrored her, raising an eyebrow at her, too. "oh, my yeonin, you have no idea how many people were crushing on you hard back in school. it's bound to happen. when have i ever been wrong—" he asked before he was cut off with a violent fit of coughing.
inha was about to go call for a nurse but was stopped by haengwoon who firmly gripped onto her arm as he gained back his composure.
inha sighed. "haengwoon—"
"humour me. when the day comes—"
"if... if the day comes..."
"if the day comes and you soon come to meet someone who wants to be with you, would you?"
"i-i don't know..." she answered. as she pondered over his question a bit more, inha added, "i think i wouldn't. i think you've ruined me for anyone. i don't think i'd be considering anyone especially so soon. plus, i don't think anyone would continue being attracted once they find out i'm a widow."
"but what if you did, they liked you and you liked them, too?"
inha shrugged her shoulders. "i guess they would have to be patient... i might not be ready yet or at all."
"i feel sorry for whoever that may be," he remarked.
inha lightly slapped his shoulder. "i thought men would be jealous at the thought of their significant other being with another but here you are somehow being the opposite."
"oh, i am. i'm jealous just thinking of it," he confessed.
"then why are you being like this?"
"i don't want you to be lonely. you deserve everything."

hello! welcome to the jeju university family! can you tell me a bit about yourself?

"hello to you, too," inha replies back with a courteous smile. "my name is yeon inha, i'm from seoul, i'm 21 years old and i should have attended jju a year or so ago but..." she hesitates for a second before she continues speaking, "there was someone, i mean there were matters that i believed needed  my immediate attention and care first... oh, i'm also majoring in fine arts with a minor in business administration!"

out of all the colleges in korea, why did you pick jeju university and why your major?

"i guess you could say that it was suggested by someone very dear to me," she says rather vaguely. it was moreso a promise. "as for why i picked to study fine arts and business, well, i grew up in a district well known for having such creative people with such unique business ventures which incorporate their craft. i want to do something like that, too. perhaps have a prop store of my own? maybe double it up as a cafe? the possibilities are endless."

where do you see yourself in 10 years?

inha shrugs. "who knows? perhaps my plan of having a prop store of my own with my own original and curated pieces coming true? my family have financially supported me all my life. they're even supporting me with tuition, accommodation and other expenses right now. they're more than happy to do it and told me to just focus on my studies and to have fun but i personally hope that 10 years down the line, i'm standing on my own two feet, making my own money and returning the favour. life's unpredictable though so, i think i'd be content if i'm just happy and healthy."

what would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?

"you would probably get a more accurate answer from others around me on this," inha answers as she reflects over the question. "someone had told me that one of my biggest strengths was that no matter how difficult or challenging something i'm going through happens to be, i'm able to rise up from it and make things okay rather than drown in it. he'd probably tell you to take his word for it because... when has he ever been wrong?" she chuckles softly. "my sincerity tends to be appreciated, too but when it comes to what my weakness or weaknesses may be... i can be rather reckless, a loose cannon maybe at certain moments especially when emotions and such are put into overdrive." inha nods. "yeah, let's go with that."

as a freshman you will reside in chungsam hall, what do you look for in a roommate? any lifestyle habits that you find intolerable?

"if they happen to be a decent human being and not secretly some sort of thief or murderer, i'll be fine? i'd like a roommate who i would feel safe and comfortable around who can also manage to keep the space tidy. i do not want our dorm to be a breeding ground for pesky insects," she shivers in disgust. suddenly, inha noticed something odd about the question. "wait... if you're asking this, does that mean i'm not getting a single room?"

what are you looking forward to the most as an incoming freshman?

"i guess... everything? well, everything but the classes..." a mischievous expression is formed on her face. "just kidding! i think the classes will be interesting... the exams and pieces of coursework to do though..." she lets out a defeated sigh. "i can't do anything about that, it's all part of the experience after all."

COMMENTS here's my girl. i think i created about three other characters that were close to completion but then scrapped before settling on inha. i hope you find her interesting! i dislike writing dialogue (i'm so bad at it ㅠㅠ) but it felt necessary for me to do to better highlight and understand inha's relationship with haengwoon. feel free to matchmake her or not but if she were, i can definitely see it being the slowest of slow burns considering her story. i even had entertained the thought of wonbin and inha paired up for i think it would be rather amusing but i decided to just keep it vague. i'm excited to see where you will take her. pls give her friends-

fun fact: i did a student exchange programme in korea for a year and the standards they have for students are insane. i had one class where if you're absent more than 4 times/late more than 8 with no good reason, you automatically fail the class. that was a huge culture shock for me, hahahaha
