should I do it?

Hey y'all!

so rn I'm currently in the middle of writing a story, and the feedback has been pretty underwhelming so far.

I'm not expecting a bunch of upvotes and subscribes or anything cuz I write mainly to get my ideas out there,

not for a moment of fame. so I'm just wondering, should I make the story 'subscribers only',

so that I could receive some comments and maybe a bit more subscribers?

like, does making the story available only to subscribers increases the amount of active reader?

I've never used that feature before for my previous fanfics, would love to receive any insights.

Peace.

i think you can try to put it as subs-only for a while to see how it goes, because i did that in the past and my subs increased a lot after, though i dont think doing that increased any other kind of feedbacks for my stories (upvotes and comments which are the more important things imo).
me personally when i visit a story and see it as subs-only, i pay extra attention to the foreword and if i feel it's interesting enough, i visit the chapters even though i will only see a tiny portion at the beginning (sometimes all words are blurred if the chapter is too short). and if i feel the writing style is good for me, i'll sub and read it.
i know how disappointing it is to see someone subscribes then unsubscribes to my story or subscribe but never interact (because they never finish it due to lack of interest but for some reason still stay subscribed) so as a reader, subs-only stories always make me hesitate before i decide to subscribe lol.

In my experience, subscribers-only won't encourage readers to comment. It'll only make an author self-aware of who's interested in reading the story or is currently reading.

Furthermore, I always say, for every ten subbies, there are nine silent readers. The odds of receiving feedback will increase with the number of readers, so my advice to you would be to advertise your stories on walls. It is time-consuming, but it can pay off.
