ELABORATIONS
taejun is the ultimate mama's boy without even wanting to be. he listens to everything she says because he always believed that she knows best for him. by the age of 12 he already made a ton of money and it was because of her. that whole time she never complimented him or told him he was doing a good job and it made him constantly try to be good enough to maybe finally hear those words. even when she punished him he blamed himself thinking he deserved it for not being good enough. he became used to holding his true feelings in and putting on a facade that he's happy and everything is ok. as an actor he had to embody the role he was playing but in his personal life he too became just another character he had to play.
he was known across korea as basically the soon to be it boy. he had to live up to his reputation so he was always well mannered and dressed neatly. he was seemingly perfect but in his head was lingering a bunch of dark thoughts and sadness that he never told anyone about. when it comes to himself he tends to be pessimistic always thinking he's not good enough or that he'll get bad reviews, a little overly humble to the point of just being plain insecure. even after becoming a trainee he stayed in the studio for so long dancing and rapping until his throat became sore because he didn't believe when others told him he was good. thats why people call him a workaholic because he's so hard on himself and always practicing. even if theres 10000 positive comments that one negative comment would constantly repeat in his head and he would overwork himself to try and prove that one person wrong.
being in the spotlight from such a young age made him become timid. he's always second guessing his actions thinking about how itll affect the way others percieve him. he was so dependent on his mom that it became hard for him to make his own decisions since he barely ever had that choice. he would ask others what they think and go with their choice but never stop and ask himself if thats really what he wants.
growing up with no friends affected im too, he became such a people pleaser that he pushed away his own needs to satisfy others. when he makes a friend he wants to do anything to keep them, even if they mistreat him he forgives them easily. he doesn't get mad easily and pushes things under the rug barely standing up for himself just to say he has a friend.
around new people he's shy and awkward because he doesn't have friends, especially those his own age. but once you get to know him you'll realize that under all that professionalism he's still just a growing kid. he gets excited easily especially at topics he enjoys or whenever theres food or something fun to do like sports. sometimes its seen in interviews that he gets excited and starts rambling but he catches himself at the thought of his mom watching or people saying he talks too much. he's a baby at heart and still has a lot of energy despite his terrible sleeping patterns. sometimes his curiosity gets the best of him and he "breaks character" and can be mischevious or naive. he still wants to be a regular kid that plays pranks and hangs out with the boys.
honestly he's really happy to be in k-os. just being with s release so much stress for him because he can finally have fun. when he's alone his mind is so negative but it all goes away when he's with s. he probably won't say it to them since he's awkward with all the lovey dovey and prefers to give them tough love but he really appreciates them.
BACKGROUND
taejun was born november 17 2003 to a single mother. he's the only child and spent a lot of time with his grandma while his mom worked since they didn't have much money.
in 2004 he got scouted by a talent agent for a childrens clothing brand and that was the start to his modeling career. by only 2 he was already signed to esteem, a modeling agency now under sm entertainment. he was an adorable kiddo and the camera loved him so he was getting booked for photoshoots like crazy. so much so that he became the main source of income in his house. eventually his mom even quit her job so she could take him to photoshoots and filmings.
it was great for his family financially but terrible for taejun. his mom became greedy with the money and everytime he misbehaved on set or just acted like an actual kid she would hit him and scream at him. taejun told his mom he hated modeling but he had no choice but to keep doing it because it paid the bills. anytime he even thought about complaining he remembered that his mom said if he stopped then they would live on the street and die so he didn't dare. at least they got to travel the world. by 6 he already modeled for big brands like calvin klein, gucci and way more. plastered on advertisements all over the world.
in 2008 he started his acting career, previously he only did commercials but that was the year he got his first drama. every year after that he was in either a drama or a movie on top of modelling. he was busy all the time and with the constant traveling he couldn't go to regular school so he was home schooled. the only friends that he made was the other kids on set and that wasn't many because his mom was rude and saw the other kids as competition.
the other staff on set knew that his mom was problematic but they couldn't do anything about it. when his mom would bring im to the bathroom to hit him and scream at him for not being good enough or messing around, none of the staff said anything. they just watched it happen. she would even do that on set in front of everyone sometimes and humiliate the poor kid. as he got older the lack of friends only made him awkward. on camera he was this great actor and well mannered in interviews but in real life he was lonely and miserable.
music was the only thing that really kept taejun motivated. when he was exhausted in a hotel in europe with no motivation to get up and go to a photoshoot with his mom yelling at him to get ready or they would be late, all he had to do was put on his headphones and listen to music and he felt better. it distracted him from his ty reality that he didn't have any control of.
he got inspired to start writing lyrics from listening to n.o by bts. he wasn't studying all day but the lyrics resonated with him because he had to take control of his life. he used song writing as an outlet to let out all his stress and started rapping that way too. his lyrics were a lot darker and deep for a kid his age but he just described how he felt and he was mature being around adults all the time.
he kept his hidden talent to himself never mentioning it to anyone. in 2017 his mom got into an argument with his manager about his lack of work that year, it happened in 2015 too but 2017 was the breaking point. it wasnt uncommon for her to get into fights with the staff and the lack of money coming in just made her more upset. after leaving esteem he got a lot of offers from other agencies, even big names like yg and jyp. he was hooked on yg since there were a lot of rappers come from there but after having a meeting with them he wasn't interested because they wanted to push him as an actor and since his acting career was already solid and guaranteed a success they didnt recommend for him to even bother with being an idol.
it felt like none of the companies were listening to him and what he wanted. pledis was the only company that said they'd support whichever decision he wants to make since its his career, the only ones not trying to control him which made him fall in love with the company. he signed with pledis that same year. he told the ceo that he wanted to be a rapper during a meeting one time when his mom was in the bathroom. he rapped for him and the ceo was taken aback by how talented he was. it was the first time he rapped for anyone besides mr cuddlekins and chuchu. after finding out the ceo wanted to make him a trainee his mom was against it because there would be no money coming in. but he informed her that if he successfully debuted and still did acting and modeling on top of that then it'll be more money in the longrun and she eventually agreed.

✩ spiders its his favorite animal because he really liked spiderman as a kid and always wanted to trap his mom in a spiderweb so she could shut up and fly out the window. he has a pet tarantula named snippers

✩ writing lyrics the lyrics he writes are an expression of how he feels at the time. a lot of them are a cry for help or deep and dark. he gets anxious showing people his lyrics since its truly how he feels. he wants to wrote songs for k-os someday though.

✩ smoking he got this habit from aeri. he tried it with her once and it has become a habit for him when he's stressed. never around his mom though.

✩ acting since debuting in k-os taejun hasn't done any acting. many of his fans want to see him on the big screen again especially as a lead since he's older now but thats the last thing he wants to do. in interviews they keep asking him when he'll return to acting and he's been saying he doesn't know and he's waiting for the right role but thats just because he doesn't know how to break it to his fans.

✩ the definition of crazy stage mom. she randomly goes to his performances or dorm or practice to check up on him and his anxiety shoots up. he constantly wants to impress her and basically listens to everything she says (until later). she will scream at him in front of everyone, she has no shame and he genuinely thinks he deserves all the punishments he gets. he even if others stand up for him to help him he just says its ok. but seriously no one is safe from her judgment she's hella fake and talks bad behind peoples backs all the time.

✩ they got close because he can see how crazy daesol is and feels bad for the kid. he's seen many cases of crazy stage moms so he knows how to deal with it. since taejun has a lot of talent he wants to protect him and make sure he's happy so he stays in the company. he's the one person that taejun feels comfortable enough to go to for support and guidance.

✩ they're just really awkward, taejun finds haedam kind of scary so he's cautious not to get him upset. he saw him during training a bunch of times but never even dared to say a word to him. he's pretty sure that haedam looked at him as one more privileged kid easily taking a spot in the group without hard work.

✩ jaero approached taejun first during rap training. taejun actually thought he was younger than him but it turned out he was older. jaero was that one person that taejun would go to just to not sit alone because he was always welcoming and didn't judge him for being awkward and quiet. he wouldn't say they're close but he's comfortable with jaero.
