misol at a first glance is a girl who smiles a lot. though she prefers to be on the side observing around and giving reactions, misol is a fun-loving and someone who tries her best to put her cheery side on. misol puts her heart in everything she does, and once she really commits to something, she'll follow it through. she is caring and gentle, and very easy to have soft spot for someone. yet, misol tends to get real a lot, and she isn't great with small talks. once you get really closer to her, she is a goofy person when she gets really comfortable. she can be very into stupid stuffs and be easily amused by little things. she can be a bit of a troll and do some michiefs.

she is someone who talks quietly, that makes her look collected and calm, but that's just because she is trying hard to contain her words and preventing all the branching thoughts that are happening in her brain. she also can't raise her voice to yell, and physically can't scold a person with yelling because of a trauma of loud yells from her childhood memory. with her being knowledgeable, and overthinker, it is possible that she can be very talkative when a certain topic interests her, yet she scatter her words a lot as she has one too many thoughts flying in her head. she also would questions a lot of things, making her even thinking more, and another reason to get drown in her own head. one time you can see her staring at nowhere, and she would spill some random stuffs that doesn't even make sense.

misol is a hot mess in the brain. she is always has a lot of thoughts, making her hold herself back and doubt herself a lot. she also get lost in her own thoughts a lot, that may give her an impression of blanking out. being thoughtful also gave her knowledge and being open minded. she is fairly intelligent, knows a lot of small things and is creative in thinking of ways and ideas. though, some of them could be questionable also. as someone with imaginative mind, misol tends to focus on the big picture of her ideas, to the extend that she can be really abstractive or verbose with her words that make it a bit hard for others to understand. this is also why sometimes she can be easily nostalgic or feeling dejavu to a things she never experienced before. with her many many thoughts, sometimes it can be really hard for her to focus. specially when she's on stressful situations, she can be very easily distracted. misol is not really the most organized nor someone who can follow routines, and this is why taking care of hyunjae is really challenging to her. misol also might underestimate some tasks, she procrastinates a lot and would panic last minute. she also really values her naps.

despite all things that are happening on her head, misol is trying to focus on the present and be the sincere, bright misol she aspires to be, as someone who emits warm welcoming vibes. because of her childhood, misol never really let go of her child self in her heart. she is content with being imaginative, fun-loving and to keep having hope. (also she is also easy to get along with kids since kids are less judgemental to adults). she is a genuine person who once cares for someone, will always care for them, no matter what. she is a big softie, both from outside and inside, someone who favors the littlest things, and very easily touched. 

BACKGROUND.

phase I. why am i here?

1. A WHOLE NEW WORLD: misol was born in icheon, south korea, 1994 in warm and beautiful spring. misol was born to a middle class family, a father who worked in a printing agency, a mother who worked in financial company, and a brother.

2. CHILDHOOD & A DEVELOPMENT OF TRAUMA:
misol's childhood was... plentiful. she was a bright and cheerful kid, always excited for what's ahead and very imaginative. she always has passion for arts, she started writing at early age and was an advanced reader. seeing this, her parents had hopes on her since they already given up on her older brother who showed no potential at the time. her parents started made her join courses for advanced skills at her age, and it would be a lie to say 7 year old misol wasn't stressed. at the time, her brother was going through rebellious phase and a lot of raising voices, harsh arguments and fights happened, and many times her parents would also take it out on misol even when she was innocent. misol was very restless, as she developed a trauma to extremely loud noises, but what triggered her a lot is her parent's yelling. she was also genuinely afraid of her own parents, and one of the reasons why they don't know much about her. she didn't talk a lot because she was too afraid of how her parents would react and her mind would already picture a scenario where her parents get mad at her.

her parents made her learn a lot of things, and while it would be beneficial for her future, misol's mental health started crashing down as she had no time for herself, and she was even more conflicted within herself for having no courage to confess to others that she was having a hard time. to cope out with this, misol wrote her heart out in her private journal, and developed that into writing fictions to project her struggles. without the comfort from her own parents, books were all she had to accompany herself and to escape this world.

3. "AH, YES. THE STORMING ADOLESENCE.": misol was a good student who had no problems in school, and was one of the smartest. she had a knack of a fast learner and is always curious. in high school, misol finally encouraged herself to speak up that she didn't enjoy the extra classes they her parents gave her. she was thankful for the privilege, but she was too stressed as she didn't have time for herself, and she worried she can't be as good as her parents wanted her to be with all the extra lessons given to her. as expected, her parents was upset with her for a lot of things, how she wasn't grateful with the privilege she had, why she only said this now, and many more. throughout her highschool years, her parents would shamed her for this in many they talk (and still until now). her parents were very strict on curfews, and would really checked in with her studies.

(tw: depression, suicidal thoughts) high school was the time misol decided what she wanted to do: she always had burning passion for writing, but her passion was greatly loathed by her parents; saying how it was a useless choice. those words really stung her, specially since she knows her parents know that she is really into literature. to her, it felt like her parents didn't want to acknowledge who she really is. her parents also would even mention and mock her passion for literature. at the time, literature was really her ride or die as it is the only coping mechanism she knew, therefore she had a hard time in high school because she only thought that literature was the only thing she was passionate about.

as her parents insisted her to go to college, misol tried to find other things she's passionate about to pursue in college because she hate to learn something she doesn't care enough. she wanted to consult with her parents but she was too afraid of them already to actually talk to them in earnest. she went through a lot of depressive episodes wishing to go away or disappear. she stressed a lot on how she might have broke her parents' heart and hopes, and that now she has to find something else to pursue for college. she also blamed herself a lot for being a coward in facing her own parents. not only that, this was also the stage where misol's brain started arising unnecessary thoughts, and how she is really sensitive to her thoughts that she has to take notes many times in many irrelevant situations. because of this she has gone through a lot of anxiety attacks.

that was when she met youngkyun, a junior by one class year, who she met in a book club she joined. youngkyun has similar taste in books, which is the fantasy genre. they first bonded over their mutual love for the hobbit, and eventually become close enough to have personal talks, thanks to youngkyun's charming personality and humor misol loves. misol would talk to youngkyun about her problems, and even though not many of his advices really helped, youngkyun was the one who really gave her support and affirmative comfort. he had helped her finding other things that she can be passionate about, and more importantly, he helped her gathering her courage to believe in herself more, and was the one who made her more brave to her parents.

the first time she actually talked to her parents that she might be depressive, she was gaslighted by them saying that she isn't grateful enough and gatekeeps her saying what she's going through isn't something worth of their concern because they have other things to worry about. since then, she stress ate and started cooked a lot. she began to realize that cooking really helps her refreshing her thoughts, not only because she gets to eat what she cooked, but also the cooking process was healing and really helped her control herself better. she developed the skill, and she though to herself that: "wow, i'm actually good at this, wtf??". this discovery was what made pursue culinary arts. while her parents hoped her to be a lawyer, doctor, or something else, as misol showed suitable grade performances in her high school, she chose to pursue culinary arts instead. this was the first time misol actually rebelled against her parents and of course, she was very nervous through the whole process as she couldn't stop thinking what would her parents react, but youngkyung helped her ease her thoughts. she took the entrace exam all the way to seoul without her parents knowing, and she was accepted. when misol delivered the news to her parents, they were a bit confused and was upset at her for not consulting this with her, but they accepted it at the end anyway, by saying "at least it's better than writing fictions." of coure that still stings, but at least misol now is free from her parents.  

phase II. where am i now?

4. NEWLY FOUND FREEDOM: misol chose to enroll in seoul for one reason, to be free. to be out from her parent's judgement. and she did. misol enjoyed her time as a college student, she enjoyed learning things she really loved, and to be able to go anywhere she wanted. misol stayed in flat nearby the campus, as the campus didn't provide dorms. again, misol joined a book club within the campus and met woo dalmi. they clicked because of their similar interests in questioning a lot of things. dalmi is someone who misol feel free to talk anything with, and their alikeness in open minded really helped them bonded. on her sophomore year, misol also reconnected to kim youngkyun, who moved to her apartment complex building as a neighbor. it was a surprise, of course, and it turned out youngkyun got accepted to the same university of hers.

misol was quite a studious one, but she couldn't lie that she did procrastinate a lot to have fun and really savour her freedom, she usually would panic at the last minute. though, misol isn't really a party-type of person, she prefer to be in her comfort space, just chilling and recharging by herself. misol was especially tired and burned out in her senior year, as she has to keep up with her part time jobs and her tight schedule. she sunk down and had a lot of mental breakdowns, thankfully she had dalmi to talk it out with, though dalmi isn't someone who used to give mental encouragement but she tries her best to be with there with misol. youngkyun was also there for her, as he heard misol's grumblings through the thin walls that seperated them. her parents would contact for once a while to ask how she's doing and misol can't ever brought herself to tell her that she's having a hard time because she knows she'll become the one to blame since she hates to make them worry or guilt-tripping her for choosing the path she has chosen. misol barely graduated with healthy mind state, but she made it. she immediately went on job hunting, and she was very lucky to be recruited in a newly opened restaurant just a few weeks before her graduation ceremony.
5. INTO A NEW WORLD: the restaurant misol works for ("bloom cafe & restaurant"), is a new establishment which could use very well a supplier to support them. as it is still a new one, misol was the only one working in the kitchen. slowly, the restaurant began to be known by residents and even sometimes would get mentioned in one of those 'trendy' restaurants to visit by. misol also got a few new cooks to help her in the kitchen, and she was promoted to head chef. one year later, when the restaurant was rising, comes kang jiwon, an investor who was interested in the restaurant misol worked. as one of the head staffs, misol naturally joined board meetings with him and they naturally grew closer. maybe it was the booze, or actually was misol's first time actually experiencing romance, but the attraction was so strong. they become casual lovers at night, after one day misol discovered she was pregnant with him. jiwon panicked, didn't want things to go serious and persuaded misol to do abortion. but it was too late, misol was already fond of the living soul in her belly. when misol said she wants to keep the baby, jiwon refused to. it was a big disappointment on misol's part, even though she saw it coming. having a bit of humanity, jiwon sent her money to take care of the hospital bills and said his goodbye. he disappeared from misol's surrounding ever since, he quitted investing on the restaurant, he blocked her number, etc. now that jiwon is out of the scene, how misol is going to carry this child?

phase III. how to care for a (literal) miracle?

6. A BLESSING: now she's left with a kid in her belly, how is she going to handle this? but worry no more, she got some help! dalmi was very supportive of her and youngkyun found out the news too, as misol couldn't really avoid him. she also informed her family and to her surprise, her mother sent her a long essay full of love telling all the things misol would need. when misol was officially on pregnant leave, dalmi and youngkyun would check on her and would help her if she needed anything. not only that, but youngkyun also managed to get the whole building residents to support her. misol also tried her best to learn parenting through books and documentaries. alongside her favorite series, these media were the only one she consumed during her pregnant rest. sometimes her parents would come by, and even though she doesn't necessarily agree with a lot of their conservative views, she is grateful that they've came to visit her.

after 9 months, misol finally gave birth to her son. she named him 'hyunjae' as in 현재 (meaning 'now'), so that she wishes to focus on the present, to take care of hyunjae and his needs. when hyunjae was born, misol thanked herself for enduring and is very grateful she got to meet her own kid.

7. DILEMMA & GUILTS: since she's working in a restaurant, she has her shifts starting at 6AM, ending at 7AM. she works through the whole week, beside sundays. which mean she doesn't have many time with hyunjae. hyunjae's school time is from 8AM to 2PM, and if she's lucky she can send her son to sleep if the traffics doesn't mess up. misol has to squeeze a lot of time to have some quality time together with him. this is what bothers her the most.

youngkyun volunteered himself to babysits hyunjae when misol has to go to work, and though youngkyun always did a great job on taking care hyunjae, the guilt will always embrace her. she wants hyunjae to be familiar with her. she wants to know what's going on with hyunjae's school life, what he likes, and just talk, play with him. misol felt sorry that she has to know about hyunjae from youngkyun. the sundays, the time she get to be with hyunjae more is the highlight of her week, she'd try to catch up a lot with him and really get to know him, though sometimes she can hold herself as she's not confident. to her surprise, hyunjae is a lot calmer than herself, and would be the one to calm her. he is very responsible and very well-spoken, to the point misol envy him. also, not a few times hyunjae would refer her mom to make the call what they should do for the day rather than him choosing, and misol is incredibly touched by the gesture and how giving he is. to be with her son more better than only one day a week and a few more hours, misol has been looking for jobs that has strategic time shifts but majority of them turned her down when they found out she was a single parent. this paradigm of single parent is sooo messed up. she thought. not only about time shifts, she honestly also can't let go of her current job because the income she receive covers so much for both her and hyunjae's living.

misol also worried what she should say about hyunjae's biologic father, concerned that hyunjae has started wondering about his father. even if he wanted to get to know about his biologic father, misol doesn't know how to reach jiwon. another major problem is, misol has been concerned of the environment of her apartment complex isn't good for hyunjae's growth; how it lacks sunshine, the amount of polluted air and the smokers in her complex. she has been wanting to move out, and what made her finalize her decision is a new construction side nearby that is very loud and could bother hyunjae's sleeping routine.

8. SINGLE PARENTS CLUB (now): while finding a new place to live, she met han chohee, a real-state agent. after checking out some places, misol finally settled in a place not too far from hyunjae's school. after sealing the deal, chohee observed that misol is a single mom and chohee offered misol to join a club for single parents. misol was quite hesitant as she was afraid it would clash with her schedule, but she ended up joining as she hoped to learn a thing or two and found comfort of people with similar situation as her.

1. hello! please introduce yourself and say a few fun facts about yourself. "oh, yes, hi! nice to meet you! uh... my name is jung misol, i'm hyunjae's mommy. and i... cook. i'm a chef." misol smiled, taking pause for a bit to think, "fun facts? what can i say about myself?" misol laughs lightly at the thought of 'fun facts', then puts her hand on her chin. "let's see... i like to read..? heh, i actuallly wanted to be a writer but my parents-i mean, i was told that literature career wasn't for me so i opted for culinary! and... this might seem a bit arrogant but i have good common knowledge-like, trivias, and stuffs." misol scratched her head, embarassed at herself for oversharing, yet again. "i guess that's it about myself?" she raised her shoulder, still keeping her smile, though with a hint of nervousness.

2. how many children do you have? what are their names? is there anything you want to say about them?  "i have one. and he's..." misol stuttered off, smiling to herself at the thought of hyunjae. "he's a miracle. his name is hyunjae, meaning for 'present'. no matter the past is, i want the best for him. and also so i won't stay in the past and regrets." wow, they didn't ask for that, you fool. misol thought to herself. sighed a bit at the disappointment at herself. "yeah, anyway, just like i said, hyunjae is my miracle. like, for example, i don't know how he does it, but he's just able to make me calm. i'm a person with a lot of thoughts, right, and he's just this very calming presence." misol thought about her words seriously and she really meant that as her smile softened. "ooh, and! he's very considerate? like, he barely goes like 'i want this! i want that!' and very understanding to me. it's good, i guess, but i worry it's because he isn't being open with me.." misol's wide smile now has turned into a bitter smile, and her shoulder dropped a bit as she drowned into her own disappointment.

3. how old were you when you became a single parent? "hmmm," misol paused a moment, to count mentally, "was it like 21? or around that?" she muttered to herself before confirming the information on her own head, "oh, it was when i was 23. i had him when i was 22 and he was born just three days after i turned 23."

4. at what point did you really realize you would have to take all the sole responsibilty of your child/children from now on? "i just know that the moment i chose to keep hyunjae and let him see the world, i am responsible of this soul's life in this very existence." misol pauses, realizing of how exaggrated her words were. "ah, sorry. that was a bit dramatic, isn't it?" misol laughed a bit to ease the awkward atmosphere.

5. personally, what do you think is the hardest thing about being a single parent? "i don't think there is a certain easy part of being a single parent.." misol spoke her thought outloud, not realizing she's actually talking. "oh, i'm sorry! i mean, i just think that for me, at least, everything is hard." misol laughed before she smiled bitterly, recalling back all the time she tried to do her best to spend more time with hyunjae. "but if i have to pick the hardest... it's making the time with my kid. i mean, like, balancing my career and my quality time with hyunjae. im a working mom throughout the week, except sunday.  and my shift is from the morning until dawn. so when my kid's up, i'm already gone to work, and when i'm home, my kid's already asleep. maybe if i'm lucky and the time allows, i get to be with him a little more throughout the day, but i feel sorry that i can't spend time with him as much as i want to." misol fidgets with her hand as she sighed, "i just... want to be with him and know him better, you know? i don't want him to feel abandoned because out of seven days in a week, i can merely spend a day with him. i want him to know that i'm here for him, that i care, that i love him."

6. what is one thing you want to tell people who have single parents or are a single parent themselves? misol was quite surprised at the question that she went speechless for a while, then she softly laughs to erase a bit of the silence, "that's a very good question.. i think i might have to think about for a little while." and she goes back to her mind, and suddenly she recalled what youngkyun said to her in the same topic regarding the question. "if... if you're a single parent, you are an amazing person. the fact that you are willing to take responsibility of these little people is admirable enough. not a lot of people is able to make that sacrifice in their life." misol sighed after she rephrased what youngkyun said to her. she added, "taking care of children is not easy, specially, let alone doing it by yourself. everytime i have hard time taking care of hyunjae, my mind always went  'god, i have so much respect for all the wise, thriving and responsible single parents out there'..." she laughs, realizing the irony, "because i'm definitely not one of those amazing parents."

youngkyun is pretty close to what one describe as a himbo, but one thing that differeniate youngkyun is he's very good with his words. though he usually use this to make wisecracking (yet actually very clever) wordplays. he's very supportive and would push his loved ones, and although his advices aren't always the best ones. he's someone who goof off a lot, and someone who makes his surrounding happy. he's very easy to read, very transparent and honest to his own emotions. can't hide when he's happy, sad, or upset. it'll show through his behavior and his expression. because of this, he's very easy to fool and not a lot of people would take advantage of him. he's someone who once have ideas, can be very keen on it and would do anything. he craves to go out to the world and experience anything he find interesting. that's why he can be very risky and that his actions might consequent him a lot. but at the end of the day, he's someone who's always there to give comfort and happiness to those he loves.
FIRST MEETING: youngkyun first  met misol in highschool, when he joined a book club. misol was (as usual) being her loner self when youngkyun approached her. misol was taken aback. youngkyun came to her because she was reading the hobbit, the book youngkyun also likes. they have a bit of talk of that, and both was surprised at how alike they are.
LOVESTORY: after starting being comfortable with each other, misol realized she has a crush on the younger because of how he gives her so much comfort and how understanding he is. but misol couldn't really bring herself to confess as she was afraid to ruin the perfectly fine friendship. they parted for a while in highschool when misol graduated. after finding out they were both neighbors in college, they started reconnecting. at the time, youngkyun already had a girlfriend of his own, so misol tried to move on from her romantic feelings towards the younger.

their friendship continues as youngkyun volunteered to babysits hyunjae while misol was working. since misol comes home from job after hyunjae has gone to bed, youngkyun would update her what hyunjae's day was like. these little talks they have what made their relationship grow even stronger, and slowly youngkyun began to admire misol not just platonically, but maybe a bit of romantic hints. (at this time he already broke up with his girlfriend-they broke up in his college years)

ENDING: youngkyun finally confessed his feelings since he can't contain it anymore. misol is, of course, shocked and recalled how she was the one to have a crush on him. misol does still has those fluttery feels around him, but she wasn't too sure by the time she actually answered him. after a few good weeks of avoiding him, misol finally talked to him again and let out that she still has some feelings left for him and maybe has been upgraded. after then, they started dating, which hyunjae can't get over at (in a good way)
TRIVIA: 
- both youngkyun and misol's love languages are words of affirmation, and acts of service.
- misol and youngkyun's personalities are quite similar. in fact, it was their personalities that brought them together. both of them give support to each other in their own way. youngkyun gave a sense of security to misol and misol gave youngkyun a sense of warmth unlike people who took advantage of him. 
- as of now, they are very comfortable with each other. they share the same brain wavelength and can talk from deep topics to completely stupid stuffs. also, misol is a huge fan of youngkyun's humor.
- him, misol and dalmi have their own groupchat and dalmi is basically just there thirdwheeling.
- sometimes they do act like a couple of parents when talking about hyunjae.
- youngkyun babysits hyunjae everyday (sans sunday), as he is a writer freelancer who has flexible schedule. youngkyun also took in a lot of inspirations from hyun. he also picks up hyunjae from his school.
- compared to misol, youngkyun spent more time with hyunjae even more than misol. it would make sense that make youngkyun extremely close to hyunjae. hyunjae can't help it since he doesn't want his mother to worry, so, any problems he has, he probably will ask youngkyun.
- misol haven't told youngkyun yet that she's having a dilemma whether to find jiwon for hyunjae.
