- just like hecate aka her mom, asteria is a lover of solitude and expects people to make their own choices. rather than mingle with people, she prefers to stay in her spot, alone, undisturbed. what a shame because she is actually a funny one. when she's in a good mood, she can throw some jokes (but still with stoic expression on her face). something like "Singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. Then it's a soap opera." as she is aware she has no friends and probably none really hear what she said, she never expect some feedback though. she just want to blurt out that lines. but people who accidentally hear her joke can't help but smile hearing them. if you choose to stay on her side and respond to her joke, she might says more jokes that will make you laugh.

- asteria is also everybody else's worst critic. one of the reason why she lacks friends because she often disagrees with them. even if she isn't aware of it, people find her just as unpleasant. she's brutally honest and disrespectful, nevertheless though, some will agree that she is actually a generous person. giving people honest critic is one of her way to 'give'. she always want to give more to those she cherish. by sugarcoating her words and lying when someone asking for a feedback is not a proper way to 'give' in her point of view. that way, this particular person would know things they need to fix. and truthfully, isn't it hard to find an honest critic these days. people choose to talk bad behind your back instead of telling you the truth aren't they?

- she is also glamorous, you can see it in her style outside the camp and the way she bring himself. she somehow has this noble aura around her

- asteria is actually very protective of her family and friends and would do anything to ensure their safety

- because of the way her dad raised her, she is usually thinking how to solve problems. she mostly thinks outside the box and puts others lives before her own. she's disciplined and mature, obeying her father and the rules as well as thinking before she acts

- because of her power which sometimes can burst out anytime without her consent, she used to get physical and verbal abuse from her peers. saying she's a witch. even until she joined the camp, she still thinks that she's not as good as the other halfblood

- a stubborn side of her : she hates asking for help and its hard to change her mind since she set it on something. being a stubborn doesn't mean she would break the rules just because she want to. her stubborn side more like she feels like she could get everything fixed on her own and she always think what she think is the right thing. she won't ever ask for help even when her life is on edge.

- when you really get to know her, you'll see the girl has her head in the clouds most of the time as her head is preoccupied with her stuff. asteria sometimes can't get a grip on her thoughts and it does hinder her focus.

 

BACKGROUND

it was confusing for her when she heard the other campers' story. most of them had kind of sob or angst life. while her? she'd simply said hers was the most flat one.

 

her father was a philologist whom studying about ancient history of greece, language, and other thing related to the country. no wonder, he spent most of his life in that country until one day he met this beautiful creature, hecate. at first, daniel yoo couldn't believe that he met the real hecate. all these times he only learn about the goddess through books and other literatures. long story short, daniel fell in love with hecate and asteria was born a year after their meeting. when asteria was a baby, her mother left, as it was usual for the goddesses. later, as asteria grew older, her father would tell her that her mother had been passed away and now living a peace life in underworld.

 

a year later, daniel met this korean woman named charlotte jeong during his study in greece. daniel married her and selene yoo, asteria's step sister was born a year after. her birthdate was exactly same with asteria's. during selene's sixth birthday, they got into an argument over who should blow out the candles. during the fight asteria inadvertently and unknowingly used her magic, causing the cake to explode. daniel told charlotte that asteria must have punched the cake as a cover up, but charlotte didn't believed that. she quickly noticed, there was something wrong with asteria. ever since then, charlotte and daniel's relationship started to deteriorated.

 

when asteria was nine, her father divorced charlotte. her father tried to get custody of selene as well, but after seven lawyers, three fist fights, charlotte took sole custody of her daughter.

 

following that failure, asteria traveled around greece with her father, going to various places and being forced to took home schooling rather than going to a 'real school' and befriend with 'real people'. asteria could only see her sister thrice a year and secretly envied her normal life. she didn't know that time, that her father took her from place to place and hide her from public because her magic started to being uncontrolled. daniel was afraid more people notice about her power and afraid that something bad might happen to her. more to his concern, he didn't know how to reach hecate and asked the goddess how to control their daughter's magic.

 

when asteria was twelve, his father finally brought her to manhattan as he decided to stay in the city and working as a lecture in nyu. his father finally allowed her to go to a real school but that was when she finally understand the reason why her father hid her all these times. her magic sometimes could burst out anytime and she couldn't control them. she wasn't a smooth talker either to cover up all the weird stuffs happened around her. thus, people at school started to bullied her. even so, she never told her dad about her as she didn't want to worry him and made her had to move from one place to another like she used to do with her dad in the past.

 

hecate came and explaining everything about her magic was a big help. at least asteria knew she wasn't a weirdo. in contrary, she was a daughter of a goddess which is cool. but hey what do you expect about this stoic girl. even after knowing the fact, she still stay silent and let those people said whatever they want about her. but things started to getting worse.

 

one day, they not only do verbal bullies. upset because asteria still shut up, they started to hitting her. afraid her magic might be explode because of the attack, asteria ran away from her school. eventually, she ran into grover underwood, a satyr, who was in charge of taking demigods like her to camp half-blood.

 

TRIVIA 
- her name asteria, was taken from the name of hecate's mother. it was given by her dad while hecate herself find the name is lame. but she wouldn't raise the girl for years ahead though so she lets her partner decide the name for their daughter
- a light weight drinker; she doesn't drink
- as a child born into an upper-middle class family, asteria has had the advantage of being able to dabble into lots of different hobbies such as karate, basic guitar skills, and diving
- her favorite song to play on her guitar is the black eyed peas' my humps

- her favorite movies are the dark ones such as goodnight mommy
- carries around a little notebook in her bag at all times
- once when she was a kid, she killed a snake with her magic
- she is one of the few people in camp who secretly carry their cellphones
- dogs like asteria very much since her mom is always accompanied by a dog
- peanut butter and jelly sandwich is asteria's favorite thing for lunch
- asteria can speak greek, korean, and english fluently

GENERAL IMPRESSION 

since she was a child, she was told that her mother passed away while delivering her. so when one day this beautiful woman came and her dad told her it was her mom with another shocking news that her mother is a goddess... nope, she didn't surprised at all. this girl still put on her flat face. rather than angry because she was left all these time, she thought that 'oh, okay, i actually have a mom. great.' and all the weird incident like she made her birthday cake explode, killed snake, and other unexplained stuffs on her life started to reasonable. she inherited her mom's power.

 

as for her impression for other gods... she was like 'so, they are real? my father wasn't doing a useless job after all.'

 

SKILLS 

as the daughter of goddess of magic, asteria has divine authority and absolute control over magic, witchcraft, and sorcery though not to the same level as hecate. her magic is weak in the daytime and strongest at ngiht. her presence makes the area she is in engulfed by magic. her magic color is light blue manifested whenever she used her magic. another note, she is a good potion maker also. 

 

asteria also has the ability of levitation, which allows her cause oneself/subjects/objects to hover in the air unassisted. at first, those objects float uncontrollably that she destroyed many things in the camp during the beginning of her arrival. but after much practice, she can stabilize her power easily.

 

after joining the camp, she developed another power, illusion casting using mist. she can psionically cause other people to see, hear, touch, and smell things which do not actually exist. for example, she can seem to make a solid wall appear in an empty space by manipulating mist around her. she can also cause people to see, hear, touch, and smell real things in ways that they would not do naturally. for example, again using mist, she can make herself look and sound like a different person. since her power only affects the mind, her illusions cannot be recorded on film or by other means. however, her power works so strongly on the mind that even if her victims know they are being subjected to an illusion, they will still react to the illusion as if it were reality unless they can rid themselves of all suspicions that it is indeed reality. hence, if asteria creates the illusion of a wall, most people, even if they know it is an illusion, will still be unable to walk through it. invariably asteria's illusions are so realistic that most people are unable to help having the feeling, at least subconsciously, that they are not illusions but reality.

 

on her fifteenth birthday, the day when her mom came. her father was like scold the goddess because she came and brought nothing for their daughter's special birthday. tired of the male's grunts, hecate finally gave her twin torches to asteria. the torches said can light an endless light and it won't disappear unless the owner asked them to. the torches collapses into keychain which she always put on her notebook.

RELATIONSHIPS 

HECATE, MOTHER she first met her mother on her fifteenth birthday. it was awkward because this beautiful goddess just rang the bell and when asteria opened the door, she said, "hello, i am your mother. i left you since as a goddess of magic i have a lot of things to do. stop by because your father made me promise to came at least once in your life. so... happy birthday. may i go now?"

 

of course mr. yoo forbid hecate to go and asked her to stay for awhile, catching up with asteria, and act like a mom at least for that night. have no idea what a mom supposed to do, hecate brought her to bed and read her a child book. asteria said it was lame because she isn't a child anymore. in the end hecate told her story about her life in underworld.

DANIEL YOO, FATHER (48) after his divorce, asteria traveled all over the greece with her father and was very close to him. however, asteria secretly resented not having a normal life though she did enjoy her traveling one. asteria realized that her father needed someone to be strong for him and asteria was that person, but asteria did resent it a bit. after her father became a lecturer in new york university, asteria was glad to be able to stay in one place and started to live a normal life (in her point of view).

SELENE YOO, SISTER (16) when they were younger, they fought a lot, causing asteria's magic to activate early and destroy a cake on at least one instance. as a result, after being separated for years and only being allowed to see each other twice a year, selene was a near-stranger to her.

 

however, after hecate came and asteria told selene about it, asteria and selene became closer as the younger ones has the same interest like their father, ancient greek history. the two able to have silent conversations with each other just through looks and growing to have great trust for each other.

IROHA YAMAZAKI, ACQUAINTANCE (18) she knows her. that's it. period. though asteria sees her as a mirror. the way iroha chooses to isolate herself when given the chance reminds her of herself. she hates catching up with the other campers but for iroha and lukas ofc , asteria secretly pay attention to them. she believes iroha is an underdog. no one really look at her but asteria somehow knows this girl keep much more secret power under her sleeve. when the two meet, asteria can't really look at her in the eye because she's afraid maybe iroha can see her admiration towards her and it's embarassing. well, hades and hecate both lived in underworld. somehow asteria think that maybe there's a link for the two gods and perhaps their descendants as well. so... yeah there is somewhat of awkwardness between them. 

COMMENTS i'm sorry if that was a lot to read and with a lot of grammar mistakes. but i really had fun writing this character though. goodluck with the story! anyway this character is mainly inspired by kane chronicles which also written by rick riordan.
