full name李诗琴 (li shiqin).

genderfemale.
orientationbiual.
ethnicityhan chinese.
nationalitychinese.
languagesmandarin chinese, english.
appearance
faceclaim: 许杨玉琢 (xu yangyuzhuo).
backup: 王玥 (blair wang).

appearance: shiqin IS PRETTY AVERAGE IN TERMS OF HEIGHT (162 cm) AND WEIGHT (60kg), AND ALSO SORT OF AVERAGE IN TERMS OF FACE TOO. SHE DOESN'T CONSIDER HERSELF EXTREMELY PRETTY SINCE SHE'S STILL GOT some BABY FAT AND DESPITE LOOKING SKINNY, HER STOMACH STICKS OUT A BIT. SHE HAS THIN EYEBROWS AND A MOLE ON HER RIGHT SHOULDER, AS WELL AS A STAR-SHAPED BIRTHMARK ON THE SIDE OF HER LEFT THIGH. THERE ARE a number of ROUND SCARS ON HER ARMS AND LEGS FROM SCABS THAT NEVER HEALED BECAUSE SHE KEEPS PICKING AT THEM.

fashion: HER FASHION STYLE IS ANYTHING COMFORTABLE, honestly. USUALLY SHE GOES AROUND IN A LONG-SLEEVED SHIRT OR A T-SHIRT (DEPENDING ON HOW COLD IT IS) AND JEANS WITH CONVERSE SNEAKERS. IF IT'S COLD OUTSIDE, SHE'LL PUT ON layers like a sweater and a PUFFY COAT. IF IT'S HOT OUTSIDE, SHE'LL WEAR SHORTS.

SHE ALSO WEARS GLASSES, BUT HER VISION ISN'T TOO BAD SO SOMETIMES SHE FORGETS THEM AT HOME AND IT'S NOT A VERY BIG DEAL. EVERYTHING WILL JUST BE SLIGHTLY BLURRY, but it's not like she can't live without her glasses. SHE NEVER WEARS CONTACTS, THOUGH, AND ALSO HATES DRESSES, SKIRTS, AND SANDALS.

INSIDE, when she's just chilling at home, SHE WEARS A T-SHIRT AND SHORTS AS PAJAMAS AND IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO GO OUT, SHE'LL JUST STAY IN THEM. SHE HAS HER EARS PIERCED AND WEARS A PAIR OF GOLD STUDS ALL THE TIME. IF SHE HAS TO BE SOMEWHERE FANCY, SHE'LL WEAR A SUIT. still NO DRESSES though >:))

personality
traits:
( + ) FRIENDLY, LOYAL, THOUGHTFUL, HARDWORKING, INTELLIGENT.
) SHY/COLD, STUBBORN, EMOTIONAL, SELF-DOUBTING, self-destructive.

description: shiqin IS SORT OF UNASSUMING. SHE'S PRETTY, BUT NOT TO THE POINT OF TURNING HEADS, AND SHE'S QUIET TOO, RARELY SPEAKING IN CLASS BECAUSE OF SHYNESS AND because she's not confident speaking chinese. AS YOU MIGHT HAVE GUESSED, SHE'S PRETTY SHY AND ALWAYS HAS A POKER FACE, WHICH MAKES OTHER PEOPLE THINK THAT SHE'S COLD OR MEAN, BUT IN REALITY, SHE'S really LONELY BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T HAVE MANY FRIENDS IN china AND IS ALWAYS willing TO MAKE NEW ONES, as long as people want to be friends. SHE does, however, GREET THE FRIENDS THAT SHE HAS VERY CHEERFULLY AND TRIES HER BEST TO GET ALONG WITH THEM despite not having grown up in china and not understanding the culture very deeply.

SHE CAN ALSO BE PRETTY STUBBORN AND STUCK IN HER OWN MIND OR MINDSET, NOT EASILY CHANGING HER MIND ONCE IT'S SET (HAHA PUN INTENDED), BUT SHE'S a LOYAL friend AND CARES A LOT ABOUT HER FRIENDS and family. IF HER FRIENDS TELL HER SOMETHING THAT GOES AGAINST HER BELIEFS, SHE'LL CONSIDER IT VERY SERIOUSLY AND MAY CHANGE HER MIND WITHOUT MUCH CONVINCING, just because it was her friend who said it. SHE'S VERY EMOTIONAL, WHICH MAKES HER PRONE TO ANGER, BUT SHE'S QUICK TO ANGER AS WELL AS QUICK TO FORGIVE. SHE HAS A FAIRLY GOOD MEMORY AND WILL REMEMBER DETAILS THAT HER FRIENDS TELL HER, like their coffee orders or their allergies. SHE'S ALSO A GOOD ACTIVE LISTENER AND IS WILLING TO SPEND MONEY/TIME IN ORDER TO HELP OTHERS.

IN ADDITION, SHE'S QUITE SMART, BEING ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH CLASS DESPITE NOT SPEAKING chinese as FLUENTLY as people who grew up in china. PART OF IT'S BECAUSE SHE GENUINELY JUST GETS STUFF, BUT THE MAJORITY OF IT'S BECAUSE SHE WORKS HARD. BECAUSE SHE'S A haigui (chinese person returning to china), IT TAKES HER TEN TIMES MORE EFFORT TO LEARN STUFF THAN IT TAKES EVERYONE ELSE, AND SHE'S WILLING TO DO IT. HOWEVER, BECAUSE SHE WORKS SO HARD AT SCHOOL, SHE TENDS TO NEGLECT LIVING HER LIFE AND OFTEN SINKS INTO BOUTS OF SELF-DOUBT AND SELF-LOATHING WHERE SHE DOESN'T THINK SHE'S GOOD ENOUGH. she also has a tendency to self-destruct and be like 'well this is already bad enough so i might as well make it worse'; this applies mostly to her schoolwork and her relationships but can also apply to other areas of her life as well.
background
shiqin was born in beijing, china. when she was about two years old, her family decided to take their chances in america and moved to ia, where she spent the rest of her life (up until a point). in america, she went by seline, but her legal name was still shiqin, and hearing teachers butcher her name all the time gave her a sort of 'sixth sense': she would say 'here' before the teacher called her name, just because she knew it was coming and wanted to avoid it. this is only one of many incidents that made shiqin feel ashamed of being chinese when she was younger; some other events include having other kids make fun of her lunch, people always asking her to speak chinese, kids mocking her by pulling the corners of their eyes, etc.

because of these things, shiqin was actually very ashamed to be chinese for a long time when she was a child. despite speaking chinese perfectly well, she stopped speaking chinese at all and rejected the food that her mom made; in seventh grade, when her parents found out that she was ashamed of her heritage, they sat her down had a very lnog talk about how other people's opinions shouldn't factor into your opinions about yourself and your culture. that conversation opened something back up for shiqin, and she began to enjoy being chinese again.

however, despite being interested in her culture again, nothing could change the fact that shiqin still lived in america and her primary language was still going to be english. because there were few other chinese kids around for shiqin to speak chinese to, her chinese skills stayed at the conversational level: enough to get her point across, but not enough to do so in a particularly elegant way. whenever she would meet chinese people online or in a video game, she would try to make friends with them, but inevitably, they would always fall out of contact because shiqin would never know how to continue the conversation.

in undergrad, shiqin went to a school that had a high population of chinese international students and made a couple of friends who came from china. all of them were super nice and understood that her chinese might not be super good because she grew up in america, so they'd always answer her questions about china and how to use what phrases and when. when it came to the topic of 'what to do after graduating', shiqin knew that the majority of her friends would be going back to china. she, however, did not know exactly what she wanted to do. with her major, she could go to grad school, or she could go right into industry, so shiqin was conflicted for a long time.

then, there came a great opportunity. the university of science and technology in beijing was holding a program to bring in chinese kids who grew up or were born in foreign countries for all levels of education (higher education, that is; so undergrad through grad school), and shiqin thought this was the perfect opportunity so she applied for a phd program. she was accepted, and because she knew some of her friends were going to universities in beijing as well, she knew that this would be a great time in her life.

future
shiqin would like to have graduated with a phd and be working as a researcher of some sort. as of now, she can't imagine getting married, not with the stress of school on her shoulders, but maybe in the future. as for where she'd like to live, she doesn't know since both america and china are her home.

occupation
current job: grad student
past jobs: barista in a cafe (in hs)
dream job: to do nothing and still earn money

career goals: graduate with a phd, get a job in research (maybe even a governmental research position!!) and make that bankkk jk jk she'd honestly like to become recognized as a researcher in her field (physics)

home
home type: apartment (dorm)
home location: haidian district, beijing (in the city)

do you like your home: yes

description of your current home: shiqin lives in a school apartment with two other international students. it's honestly not a big apartment but they make sure to keep it very tidy, and there are windows in the living room that let in the light. it's also only about a ten minute walk away from school, so it's convenient.

dream home: have her own legitimate house, like a two-story house, with a garden and flowerbeds and a couple of pets and nice hardwood floors and an attic.

friend : xu mengjie : 9/10
mengjie was one of the international students that shiqin was very close to during her undergrad days. mengjie is a very outgoing and friendly person and always made sure to include shiqin in whatever conversations that their friend group was having. in addition, they often ate dinner together since they lived in the same dorm building, and shiqin considers mengjie her closest college friend. mengjie now pursues a phd at qinghua university, and they still hang out as much as they can. fc: xu mengjie (rocket girls)

best friend : akira zhao : 10/10
akira was shiqin's best friend back in america. they met in middle school and bonded immediately since they were both chinese. like shiqin, akira was born in china but moved to america when she was young, so they had a lot in common. they went through their weeb/kpop phases together as well, and kept in touch even after going to college and after shiqin went to china. akira now works as a freelance graphic designer in america. fc: zhao yue (bonbon girls)

roommates : sunnee, jinna : 7/10
they are shiqin's roommates. sunnee is a computer science major from thailand and jinna is a math major from canada. though they all get along, shiqin feels like their personalities only mesh well enough to be roommates; they can live together well, but all of them are too different to actually be super close friends. fc: sunnee and fu jing (rocket girls)

personality
personality traits:
+ attentive, hardworking, reliable, compassionate
= quiet, reserved
- sensitive, selfish, naive, moody
personality: he is the Softest BoiTM. he genuinely cares about people, no matter who, and is always willing to help them with their troubles or struggles if he can. he understands, to some extent, what many people are going through and often tries to make other people feel better. he also has a knack for noticing things that other people might not, like body language and tone inflections, which causes him to understand how someone is feeling at some point in time. he also is not the type to just abandon someone; if he's made a promise, he will follow through no matter what, and he'll do his part to the best of his abilities. he doesn't know the definition of 'giving up' and will always put forth his best effort into anything he does.

however, he is sensitive about criticism and comments about himself, and he'll often be down if he hears such comments. he tries not to be the mood spoiler, but oftentimes, he'll just wake up on the wrong side of the bed and snap at people who approach him. other times, he'll have a pessimistic outlook on life that makes him and the people around him feel bad (though he tries not to!). having grown up insecure, he can also be selfish and naive sometimes. of course he knows how to share and all, but his priority is still himself and his own feelings/wellbeing, since he spent the majority of his life thinking too much of others. he also gets scammed quite a lot, since he doesn't realize that sometimes, life is just out to get him. he thinks that the world is generally good, and is often sorely disappointed when life doesn't turn out as such.

he is also shy and doesn't often talk to people he doesn't know, unless he has to or thinks they're in trouble. as a result, people assume that he's antisocial or cold, when in reality he's the exact opposite. he is quiet, though, in general. his voice is quiet and he doesn't seem to have very much presence in the room, though he often likes it as he doesn't necessarily enjoy the spotlight on him.

background
career background: during high school, he made a lot of song covers on the internet (specifically bilibili) but never thought that he would sing for a living. he went to college in ukraine to study dentistry. after realizing that it was just not the path for him, he switched to studying music instead. originally, he thought that he might want to become a music teacher, but the producers of the voice of china season 3 approached him and convinced him to go on the show. afterwards, he was picked up by a management company and appeared on multiple shows as well as sang many OSTs before finally forming his own studio (i'm sorry it's late and idk how to translate 工作室)

personal background: born in hunan, he moved to guiyang, guizhou in elementary school to be closer to his parents who were working there. however, as his parents were very busy people, he was basically left to his own devices and as a result grew up insecure. it also didn't help that his voice change during puberty was significantly less deep than his classmates, so in middle school, he was bullied for that a lot.

after appearing on the voice of china, he began to gain more confidence in himself but at the same time, hearing people comment on how they thought he was a girl really affected him a lot, until at one point he decided that it was better to be known as 'the guy who sounds like a girl' rather than not known at all. he's also known for being kind but honest/realistic with fans.

trivia
- likes: spicy food, sleeping, watching cat videos, singing, rainy weather
- dislikes: being woken up, snow/cold days, being told that he'll never make it, being forced to sing for relatives during holidays

- hobbies: learning how to write music/lyrics, reading, listening to music, singing, watching cat videos
- fears: everything the dark, ghosts, failure, abandonment, getting into a car crash

first meeting
would you believe that they actually met in america? at the time, shiqin was still a third-year student at nyu, walking around town to get groceries and run other errands. when she was waiting for the bus, she saw someone who vaguely looked familiar but wasn't sure who it was since they were wrapped up in a huge scarf and coat (such are new york winters). coincidentally, right then, she got a phone call from mengjie asking when she would be back (because their friend group wanted to go out for dinner) and she picked up in chinese. afterwards, our boi approached our gorl to ask for directions and shiqin, being well-versed in chinese entertainment culture, recognized him.

however, she didn't freak out (like a mature adult) and since they were going the same general direction, she basically went 'oh i'll tell you when it's your stop'. then she very carefully asked if she could take a picture because it's not every day you meet a famous singer, you know, and he just laughed and said sure. after the selfie deal was over, he revealed that he'd be in new york for a few more days so if it was okay, could they exchange wechats for convenience of asking-locals-for-directions-and-stuff. shiqin was about to die from excitement but she kept her cool and that was that.

love story
after the first meeting, they kept in contact because it was always nice to know that shengmi (his fans) are all over the world. for shiqin, she was just glad she was lucky enough to be able to talk to an awesome famous singer. the more they talked, though, the more shiqin realized they were really really similar. they both had sort of bad experiences growing up that left them insecure, they both really liked food (especially hotpot), and most importantly, they were both short. jk lmao but they really did have a lot in common, and despite only being internet friends, it felt like they actually knew each other in real life.

ofc he's really busy and shiqin's got school too, but when she decided to come to china for grad school, they were both realllly excited because it meant they could potentially meet up more! of course, beijing and shanghai are still pretty far away, but at least they would be in the same country now! when shiqin first landed in china, he wanted to come because 'you're alone in china and i don't want you to be alone' but actually, the school had people to help the international students, so they didn't end up getting to meet.

to this day, they've only met about three times in real life, and all of those meetings were unfortunately short because they are both busy people. it's usually just catching up over dinner (and the first time we met up in haidilao [hotpot place] shiqin was super nervous but it ended up being fine and the later meetings she was totally comfortable) and maybe a walk outside? but as we all know, celebrities usually can't go out without having the paparazzi on their tail :( so he'd rather not subject her to that. however, throughout the years, they have video-called many many times and sent many many texts even if they haven't met, so they're as close as real-life friends anyway.

interactions
they usually text or video call. more often than not it's texting because shiqin just prefers texting anyway and also hates the sound of her own voice, but sometimes when she's busy writing something (cough THESIS) they'll video chat and work on their own things as if they were in one room together. like true friends, they diss each other teasingly but never mean to actually hurt any feelings.

current relationship
shiqin doesn't really know when her awe and admiration turned into real feelings. it's not uncommon for fans to 'fall in love' with their idols, so shiqin was very scared that she was misreading her own emotions. however, the feeling does not seem to have diminished after many years, but she's still scared to put a label onto her feelings. on the other hand, it's almost the same for him, except he feels there might be power dynamic problems with dating a fan. so it's a lot of mutual pining lol.

end relationship
dating, hopefully (if they can both get over their issues)

relationship trivia
- they both don't really like coffee (but drink it anyway)
- they both super like sweet food
- shiqin doesn't actually like spicy food but she would never tell him that because he loves spicy food
- even though they didn't meet when shiqin first moved to china, he sent her a box of snacks and a teddy bear after school started (the roommates assumed it was from her family)
- on her side, only akira knows about their friendship; on his side, no one knows (but a few staff [like manager] suspect things)
- shiqin can call him 周星星 and he won't get mad (it's a little different from the fans calling him that because he can't stop the fans from doing anything, whereas if he realllly wanted shiqin to stop, she would; but he doesn't lol)

scandals
- honestly long-distance relationships (even friendships!) take a toll on you, so i'd like to see the toll of not being able to hang out often + miscommunication leading to this whole cold-shoulder situation where one of them just doesn't text for days before finally breaking and apologizing (it doesn't matter which one; it could also be both lol)

- as there are always many pretty women around him, i'd like to see shiqin get lowkey jealous LOL

- both families are pressuring them to get married

- what will shiqin choose after she graduates? even though that's still pretty far, it's actually not that far anymore (2-3 years more) and she's conflicted on whether to stay or to go back to america; he obv doesn't want her to go back to america, so maybe there can be smth there
