birthname. 向日葵 Xiang Ri Kui
nicknames.

— 小葵 Xiao Kui  - 'little kui', her parents called her that since she was born. She doesn't get why her parents still refuses to call her by her actual full name.
— 夕阳 Xi Yang - Sunset. The Korean staffs couldn't pronounce her name so just called her by her family name, 'Xiang', but of course, mispronounce it as 'shee-yang' which sounds like 'Xi Yang' which she eventually takes as her stage name.

birthdate.  2.2.2000
birthplace. Tokyo, Japan

ethnicity. Chinese
nationality. Taiwanese
languages.

(looks unrealistic!! but trust me, it will make sense in the background section.)

— Japanese (Intermediate)

faceclaim. Ouyang Nana (Taiwanese Actress)
backup fc. Sharon Wang/ Wang Cheng Xuan (Youth With You 2 Conntestant)

height. 1.67cm
weight. 45kg

appearance.

— 167cm tall, 45kg light. Inhumanely starved with a perfectly sculpted face. Xi Yang has a strict diet plan to get her in shape. Not even a little bit of temptation should get in her way of achieving her dreams. She is undisputably pretty, and more importantly, in SM's books pretty.

Xi Yang has a symmetrical face with big sparkly brown eyes and a cute button nose. SM would really appreciate it if she would get her nose fixed so it would look less... 'buttony'. But for Xi Yang, she believes that everything that's been given to her are a gift from her parents, thus she rejects any requests for alterations. I mean... diet is already a struggle and that's a huge sacrifice that she made.

fashionstyle.

— She understands that beauty is pain, though she's not down for plastic surgery, painful shoes and tight clothes are alright for her. She has her own fashion sense and will not hesitate to fight back if the stylists try to give her strange outfits.

She's normally wearing whatever's trending that season. She keeps up with what's in fashion and feels that it's her job as an idol to stay fashionable and not dress like a rubbish dump even when she's in the training room. She feels that it's also basic courtesy to the people around her that she dresses well.

Keywords: Basic, Classy, Simple but chic, not too eye-catching

persoNality.

intj - slytherin

+ rational
Ri Kui prides herself on her mind. Any situation can become an opportunity to expand her knowledge and hone her rational thinking skills. Problem solving is her forte, nothing is too big of an issue for her to solve.

+ independent
Growing up country hopping, changing friends and environments all the time has helped her develop independence and versatility. She's self motivated and strives to do things her way.

 + resillient
Ri Kui would dedicate her time on mastering any skill to achieve her goals. She tends to have clear visions of the dreams or goals she'd like to achieve, and few things can deter her from turning these visions into reality.

+ informed
Forming rational, evidence-based opinions is in Ri Kui's blood. Rather than hunches or half-baked assumptions, she'd always choose to base her conclusions on research and analysis. Arguing with her will never be fun. Also she's a know-it all, and a walking encyclopedia.

o private
Ri Kui tends to be private and extremely withdrawn. Even close friends struggle to get into her heart and mind. But her staying private and being alone is what keeps her sane.

o calm
Nothing can truly shake Ri Kui because of her lack of emotions. It's hard for her to reach a stage of utter depression nor extreme joy.

- arrogant
As much as she's knowledgeable, she still could be wrong. She's sometimes blind to useful input from other people due to her self-assurance, especially towards people whom she thinks are intellectually inferior to her.

- overly critical
Since she has a great deal of self-control, particularly when it comes to thoughts and feelings, when the people in her life fail to match her level of restraint, she can become scathingly critical.

- insensitive
She would often get so caught up in logic that she forgets any kind of emotional consideration. Purely emotional situations are often utterly puzzling to her, and her  lack of timely sympathy can easily offend people, including those close to her.

- dislike towards rules
Ri Kui hates blindly following anything without understanding why. Rrestrictions or higher authorities that try to get in her way without logical reasoning is what she hates the most.

background. (in first person! hope you don't mind!)
Alright, for starters, you gotta know that I love my parents. But this is not going to do them any justice because I'm here to diss them. Still, please understand, I love my parents.
To learn about me you have to know what caused me, am I right?

My parents were taking their masters in Linguistics. My dad studied in Japan, while my mom, in Taiwan, both in the most established instituitions in each country. Their paths crossed when my mother went over for an exchange programme. During the weekend outing, my dad saw my mom across a damn sunflower field??? And he said it was love at first sight...? I don't know about you but I'd never believe this cliche nonsense. Still sounds like they just ripped it off a romcom. Also, these people are professors now I can't- They literally still believe in 'love at first sight'. Nonetheless, I love them and am grateful for loving parents.

They got married 2 years later, and I was born the following year after they got married, in year 2000. And haha guess what, my dear hopeless romantics named me a sunflower after the sunflower field where they fell in love at. What's worse, my dad's last name is literally 向 xiang , which is the very first word of the word 'sunflower' in Chinese.

Yes, my dad is a Taiwanese man, he just travelled to Japan for further studies due to the love for new environments and learning new languages. Ah... classic romantic right? wanderlust! But!but!...my mom enjoyed stability. So in the 2 years together, they long-distanced and would fly to Japan or Taiwan to spend time with one another once in a while. Ahh... Until mom got pregnant. That's right, I was an accident! I was born in Tokyo, Japan, where my dad eventually found a stable job just for my stability-obsessed mother.

I spent the first 10 years of my life in Japan, and studied at an international school. I studied hard, did well and never left the honour roll. you could say i brought honour to the Xiang family. :') At international school, we learnt in English, and I spoke in English to my friends. My Japanese was utter because I really had no interest in it whatsoever.

When I turned 11, we moved back to Taiwan because my grandparents were getting old and my parents wanted to be there for them. I went to a regular school and had to practice Chinese really hard. They laughed at me a lot for speaking in broken Chinese and having an American accent. School life was difficult and that was how I found my outlet of stress relief through music. Kpop wasn't as big back then, but I stumbled across a 2NE1 music video. Somehow, I felt empowerment from a music video singing a song in a language that I didn't even understand.

Fast forward to 2013, my mother passed on due to cancer. I was at an awkward age of puberty. Now you might think I'm about to tell you how sad and tragic I felt, but honestly, I was too old to be irrationally upset about death, and too young to be able to feel the extent of the hurt that comes with death. So really, I did feel like a part of my life was missing, but maybe not to the point of depression.

Maybe it was in my coping mechanism, I developed the 'wanderlust' from my dad after my mom left me. At 13, I begged my father to send me to Korea so I could sing and dance like my cool 2NE1 unnies (lmao). And unsurprisingly, that was also in my dad's coping mechanism. Going to Korea brought a new start to us, and also was the beginning of me and my dreams.  I went to a middle school in Seoul and my dad found a job as a... you guessed it, professor! Just that he taught in an English major. Both of us had to learn Korean from scratch. We found a small community through my dad's colleagues who were made up of majority foreigners. I also went on to take up vocal and dance classes.

As I practiced, I felt 1 step closer to my dreams and decided to audition at YG Entertainment. The 4 times I auditioned, everytime, I failed. Back then, I wasn't the best at singing and was utter trash at dancing. Talented kids my age were already on a different level. But for me, I just started learning and there was no way I could get to that level of excellence.

It wasn't until one snowy winter day in 2013, a crazy friend of mine from my vocal and dance academy convinced me to busk with her on the streets of Hongdae. We were young, innocent-looking and extra frail-looking on the cold day. I must say it wasn't the best performance but I remembered grown-ups cheering for us as we bravely sang and danced in the snow. There came the turning point of my life. A lady came up to us after our performance and passed us a name card that had a logo that said 'SM Entertainment'. And the rest is history!

I would go on to train my off in SM Entertainment waiting for the day I actually get to debut. :^)

rElAtionships.

— father : Xiang Qian Jin / Professor / Humourous, Loving, Idealistic / 10/10

He injects lots of joy and laughter into Xi Yang's life and is the only person Xi Yang can trust fully. After all, they really only have each other. He fully supports Xi Yang's dreams and wants her to be happy.

— friend : Seo Herin / ex-SM trainee / Sassy, Warm, Courageous/ 8/10
Remember the friend Xi Yang got scouted with? This is Seo Herin. Xi Yang doesn't have many friends, but Herin being the rare few English speakers Xi Yang knew, grew comfortable with her. Herin knows when to draw close and when to keep her distance when it comes to befriending our difficult and private Xi Yang. Even when time passed, and Herin left SM, they still felt comfortable keeping in contact with one another.

— senior : Taeyeon / SM Artist / Driven, Talented, Genuine/ 7/10
Nobody hates fake es more than Kim Taeyeon. Following her footsteps, is Xiang Ri Kui. Xi Yang first caught Taeyeon's eye during an evaluation. Taeyeon spotted Xi Yang rolling her eyes at this trainee who cried while explaining how she ruined the team's effort because she was too nervous and forgot her steps. It was obvious that the trainee didn't practice and on top of that, she was known to be a bully. Xi Yang then surprised Taeyeon even more when she sung.
When Taeyeon approached Xi Yang, Xi Yang though taken aback, claimed that she was a 2NE1 fan and 'felt illegal' getting close to Taeyeon because she was a member of SNSD.
Taeyeon thought Xi Yang was an interesting kid and began bringing her out for food and guiding her as a senior. She realised that they had a lot in common especially when it came to their hard-to-approach personality. Thus, Taeyeon tried to look out for Xi Yang as much as possible, and treated her like a little sister.

TRAINEE YEARS. SM Entertainment 2013 - 2017 (4 years)

trainee life.

— Xi Yang was never the most outstanding trainee. When she entered SM in 2013, her skills weren't strong. But indeed, she was considered a pretty face. She wasn't loud and she didn't try too hard to make friends because she knew why she was in SM for. It mattered more to her to train hard than to be popular. Thus, many other trainees didn't expect her to be good at her craft. But as time passed, Xi Yang showed great improvement after each evaluation. As a foreigner, things weren't the best for her. Trainees would talk behind her back and sometimes mock her for her imperfect Korean. She usually would pretend to not hear and just walk away. But when it comes to other trainees especially her Chinese-speaking or English-speaking friends, she would be sure to speak up for them.
From 2015 onwards she begun to stand out as one of the best vocalists amongst the trainees. Beyond that, she stood out even more because she wasn't Korean but she spoke without an accent. This was when some newer trainees began to look up to her.
In 2017, a group of trainees debuted, and she participated in a Chinese version of one of the songs. However, she didn't get to promote along with them offically. That kept her hope high and she waited. As time passed, some of her fellow trainees debuted in TCG Puff, but she wasn't in the line-up. For a moment she questioned herself if she were to be more versatile and 'alright' with cute concepts, she would be able to debut earlier. But thankfully, she actively promoted in the end as a part of YueShenP, and she took back her regrets of refusing the cute concept of Puff because she knew that she'd never do it as well as any one of the actual Puffies.

scandals.

— ' TCG member Xi Yang, a nobody but is rude to staffs'
- people tend to mistabke her bluntness as rude and Xi Yang doesn't think much about it

future activities.

— Solo music

— Acting

This interview was recorded around the time of debut in 2017 (or around their debut date if they joined later). They might see the interview again in the future.

hey there! Introduce yourself to the viewers!

— "Hey, this is Xi Yang."

how do you feel about debuting?

— "Hmm surreal. We've all trained for many years for this moment, so just like all the other members, I'm expectant. The future is going to be exciting and I can't wait to see what we can bring to everyone."

what do you want to achieve with tcg?

— "I think as idols beyond just sing, dancing and looking amazing, it's also about what we can do to inspire and influence. I feel like it's required of the idols of our generation to be able to spread a positive message on top of looking pretty. If our fans are able to be motivated because of us, I feel live we've done our job. Of course, trophies would be nice but that's secondary."

Do you have any personal goals as well?

— "I guess to out do myself each day and constantly grow. I do hope to release my own music or go into acting eventually."

what do you think about the group's concept?

— "Pretty cool. I don't know the exact plans but for now, since I've signed with SM, do I really have a sa-"
(off cam) manager: Xi Yang!!! Maybe you'd want to speed up?
"Ah yes, what I wanted to say was, I'm in SM, can't say even if I hate it :)"

how are you going to survive living with a bunch of other girls?

— "Pretty noisy, but what do you expect? There's so many of us. But I must say, it's nice to be surrounded with friends who have the same vision. Chasing dreams as a team feels nice. Ahh, not the noise though."

what do you think about nct? do you get along with your counterpart?

— "Cool cool, talented people. I must say though, our Kun needs to stop acting like an old dad. I get along fine with him, pretty nice guy. He just needs to stop nagging. I spent much time training together with NCT and I guess yeah we're chill."

thank you for this interview! any last words?

— "Thank you. Stream Yes I Am."

birthname. Kim Junmyeon/ Suho

PeRSONaLITY.

— Friendly, Intelligent, Polite, Responsible

Suho admires Xi Yang's hardwork and sees a fragment of himself in her. On the surface they seem like close platonic friends but since Xi Yang hardly has any close friends it's different that Suho is the only guy friend that knows so much about her. When he was younger, he had a model student image and always seemed like this good guy. As he got older, he just became more of an 'old guy' because his dad jokes became more prominent.

first meeting.

— Suho just happened to know Xi Yang because she was one of the few 'up and coming' popular trainees. It wasn't uncommon for idols to know the name of some trainees, moreover, Xi Yang was becoming close to Taeyeon.
They really first met when SM was planning for YueShenP's debut. The girls bumped into EXO at the recording studio and typical Suho tried to give the girls some advice. Xi Yang thought Suho was kinda cringe at the point so just kept a straight face. The rest of YueShenP was fully engaged in the conversation and was very excitedly getting advice from the EXO members except for Xi Yang. Nobody really tried to get her attention until Suho actually asked her how she felt about being the leader. Taken aback, Xi Yang couldn't really say much and for some reason, started blushing. This was extremely shocking to the YueShenP girls because they've never seen her react the way she did, and started teasing her. This also caused the EXO members to tease Suho.

development.

— Xi Yang doesn't really know how what to do with her feelings and probably doesn't know that she even likes Suho. Subsequently, they would bump into each other in the company and Suho would always greet Xi Yang in a friendly manner. They would catch up and have short conversations once in a while until once they had a deep conversation and they had to rush off for their schedules so it was the perfect excuse to exchange phone numbers.

current status.

— They're both busy so they would chat like friend once in a while.
—  Xi Yang being spotted at Suho's enlistment

ending.

— its an ongoing 'some' relationship. it's ambiguous, they both probably have feelings for each other but nobody's saying anything. They just remain as bestbest friends through their idol days. You can spot eye contacts during SMTown concerts and Suho seen dancing to YueShenP's choreos + Xi Yang dancing to EXO's choreos.

Something could happen after that, but its a little to long until then. Reference song:
Goodbye Summer :') (What if they get to cover this song during one of the concerts and they both relate to it asdfghjkl)

relationship trivia.

— Xi Yang can't remember all the members' birthdates but remembers Suho's birthday
— Xi Yang speaks to Suho informally, her excuse being that she's not great at Korean. Suho allows it even though he's known to be someone who's particular about honorifics, and he also is aware that Xi Yang's Korean is fantastic.
— Their 'some' relationship is pretty obvious to their members but less in public
— They have a couple bracelet but they claim that its a 'friendship bracelet' lol sure
— Xi Yang is extremely protective of Suho and would make an extra account to report and rebute the hate comments about him

comments. Xi Yang may not be the most lovable character, I hope she can be someone that you'll grow to like for how different she is and how hard she strives to be unique :>
